Today we're having a brief chat with Daniel Glassman, aka danieglass who's an undergrad student in LA:
What is your first LEGO memory?
Though it sounds very cheesy, my first LEGO memory also happens to be my first memory of life. I recall being somewhere around three years old, and I was running through Downtown Disney (at Disneyland) to get to their LEGO store. This was before the store's remodel and the entrance was flanked by two massive red bricks, and there was this wonderful brick-built giraffe inside the store.
I love this memory and I think of it often, as it is both my first LEGO memory and first memory at all!
Which set or theme has been most influential upon you, as a LEGO fan?
Star Wars has to be my favourite theme. I have loved it since around 2004-2005, particularly the wave of sets that was released alongside Revenge of the Sith. My love of LEGO is in large part attached to Star Wars and growing up alongside the theme's evolution has been very influential to me. If I had to pick a set, it would be 7153 Jango Fett's Slave I.
Though the infamous Star Wars tax can be offensive I am still quite attached and always look forward to seeing each new wave's reveal.
What are you building right now?
I have just finished building 70670 Monastery of Spinjitzu, since quarantine has allowed me to research Ninjago a bit more, I am really loving it. I will soon start on 70912 Arkham Asylum. I am trying to expand a bit beyond Star Wars and see which themes I may have overlooked in the past.
How do you store your LEGO?
I store my LEGO in more ways than I would like which seems to be a trend in this community. I display my favourite/most recent sets on shelves, but other than that I store most of my used sets in labelled bags placed inside plastic containers. I have flattened some boxes and keep as many as I can stored and covered in my garage.
Sealed sets live in a hall closet and I store my minifigures in bags labelled by year. Additionally, I have a shelf of promotional items which is nearing capacity. I have a copy of set 7263 Tie Fighter there signed by the designer, which is a prized item for me.
How long have you been visiting Brickset?
I have been a Brickset member since 2017 when I began keeping track of my inventory, but I have been visiting the site since 2007. My best friend Matthew and I would call each other on our landline phones just to browse the site together and see which sets were soon to be released. Thank you Brickset for providing us all with a wonderful place to stay connected!
Have you been to a LEGO event?
I have been to Brick Fest Live and BricksLA, both held in Pasadena, CA. Both events were wonderful but I think BricksLA took the edge for having a plethora of vendors selling retired sets. It's difficult to find a good deal but seeing booths stocked up with old product is always very fun.
Thanks, Daniel!
