26 projects qualify for LEGO Ideas review

Posted by ,

A record-breaking 26 projects have qualified in the first LEGO Ideas review period of 2020, which has just ended.

There are some cracking projects in the list, as you will see after the break, and it's a shame that only one or two will pass review. There are also some that are too big and others that would require resurrecting old licences, so I would think that they can be immediately discounted.

If last year is anything to go by the results will be announced in Billund at the end of September, to coincide with the Skaerbaek fan weekend, assuming that goes ahead.

Which project(s) is your money on?

By in United States,

Was hoping you guys would report on this - truly an amazing sight, to see so many Ideas getting support!

"it's a shame that only one or two will pass review."

Has that ever been established, or are we going by assumption?

Gravatar
By in United States,

wow. i'd say 75% of these, while cool as MOCs, just have zero chance as a production LEGO set. Either too big, too obscure, or questionable market.

The ones that seem most likely are the Space ones (but do we need more Ideas space sets?) or some of the licensed ones.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

They should have split this in two.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I couldn’t believe some of those are made of LEGO. They’re that good. I had to blow up the images to see the LEGO pieces. Fantastic!

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

These are all great, but maybe the Iron Giant

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Queen or Ruined House, I would be happy with either them tbh

Gravatar
By in United States,

Boo on all the space stuff... I understand that it's popular, but if it's going to continue, LEGO should just give it its own dedicated theme.

I totally agree 100%

By in United States,

That’s a lot to take in! Fantastic creativity. While we’ve had many great space sets, (probably needs its own theme) Project Gemini looks very appealing to me personally.

I love the Indiana Jones trilogy! Definitely well designed to pack so much into a small area. It would be a fun set at hopefully a lower price point, which would be appreciated. Updated mini figs would be great to have as well, if we can’t get a new Indy wave.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think Mary Poppins is most likely, and I would love it if Gemini passed review. The castle in the forest, Spongebob, New Glenn, and the Iron Giant would also make very good sets.

Gravatar
By in United States,

UCS CCBB, Gemini, Snow Groomer, Castle in the Forest, Iron Giant, and Earth Globe would be my preferences. All tho Futurama might be too large of a project, I wouldn't mind a chance to get the whole crew in minifigure form into production.

Gravatar
By in Estonia,

I would buy Mary Poppins, Futurama Planet Express and Fishing Boat. I guess the Fishing Boat might have a chance. Perhaps Iron Giant and Castle in the forest also.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Iron Giant FTW! I still have this movie on VHS somewhere at my parents place. (This movie is celebrating it's 20th anniversary? man, I feel old!)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really hoping for the Fishing Boat, the Indiana Jones, train station and Cybertruck could also be cool

Gravatar
By in United States,

Globe, Knight Rider, and Iron Giant seem the most likely to me.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Honestly? I'd lean towards the train station and the castle in the forest. I also really like the working waterfall, but I'm not certain that would translate well into an official set.

For me, the realistic space stuff doesn't interest; and the licensed ideas aren't ones I'm really familiar with... except for the Marry Poppins one, but I feel like that one veers closer to the Modular Buildings line than Lego would want to take Ideas. The remaining ones that leaves, while cool, either feel like too much would be lost in translation to an official set, or just aren't my personal cup of tea.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I've wanted a Lego Globe for decades, I hope that one passes. And if Disney owns any of the licensed suggestions, there's a strong chance it will pass since IDEAS is essentially an outlet for one off Disney sets.

Examples:
Wall-E
Tron
Steamboat Willie
Flintstones (Owned by ABC, a Disney subsidiary)

Gravatar
By in United States,

There might be 26 sets qualifying, but the number I'd like or expect to see as sets is maybe two. At this rate Lego are going to have to up the threshold from 10k. The question is, to what: 25k? 100k?

Gravatar
By in United States,

The globe, the fishing boat and one of the space craft.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Castle, castle, castle, castle... I'm really rooting for the castle in the woods, one of only a few projects I've actually supported!

Gravatar
By in United States,

1 - Possibly
2 - Please, no
3 - No
4 - No
5 - Too big
6 - No
7 - This could be cool, but there have been a lot of space related IDEAS sets already
8 - Too obscure
9 - Might have to revive a licensed theme
10 - I do like this one, but I don’t know if there has been a truly ‘modular’ IDEAS set yet
11 - No
12 - No, but it does look good
13 - Possibly
14 - No, although it does look great
15 - Yes, please, I hope this is a callback to the Castle theme like Pirates of Barracuda Bay 21322.
16 - No
17 - No, although it does look good
18 - No, too obscure
19 - Might have to river a licensed theme
20 - Possibly
21 - Slim chance
22 - I’d love a Futurama theme, but I don’t know if there is enough mass appeal for it
23 - I’d buy this on Day 1.
24 - No, I think there will be LoZ sets with the new Nintendo theme
25 - No
26 - This one is awesome and I think this has the a very good chance of becoming an actual set. This seems to be different than other submissions and I could see many people buying this.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I can see Lego doing any of the ‘realistic building’ projects like the garden centre, as well as the globe which is fantastic. The space stuff is starting to look very samey review on review - I bought an Apollo rocket which looks great but like many people are clamouring, it should just have its own theme for NASA or just space exploration with real life vehicles.

Some of the licenses people managed to get past 10k on this review are questionable. I think the Untitled Goose Game one is a nice enough build but an Ideas set - really? The market’s just not out there for it.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The only one I'd shell out cash for is the Globe, it would look great beside my "ship in a bottle". My money is on Sponge bob or Futurama because of their marketability. I think the Chitty chitty bang bang model is amazing with incredible detail. The Space sets and modular buildings already exist within the Lego range so they are unlikely to pass review. Nonetheless, congratulations to all the talented builders who created these fabulous designs and best of luck at the review table!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I would get The Castle in The Forest!
I love the historically accurate Rome, but it just doesn't look like the kind of thing that would become a Lego set. It would be cool if online instructions for it were released, though.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I like all the trains-related sets.

Some of them are just too gigantic, though.

The modular florist looks *amazing*, but Lego doesn't like taking modular buildings and making them into Ideas sets, does it?

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

If I had to put my money on one I'd pick the globe. It's nicely done, doesn't need a license and would have global appeal (sorry, couln't resist).
Second would be Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, just a really well-designed model.
The Queen train is a bit crude but a nice concept.
For a bowling alley I'd like one with Walter, Jesus and The Dude...
Fishing boat would be nice.
I like Indy but this could have a problem with existing license plus it's missing one movie.
Kitt looks like a sleek model but it's just not an interesting model like the Delorean or Ecto 1.
The station looks cool and any train set is good news but this would be a very big and expensive set that may not have a huge target audience.
Gemini is well done but as others have said - another NASA set....

I do, I do. Nearly done the lot. Just can't speed do the pub.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like the Project Gemini, the Untitled Goose Game, and the Fishing Boat as sets, many of these are just too big or don't interest me at all... I love Coraline but that one is just a pink house and not distinctive... I'm shocked the Krusty Krab made it this far, they've already made two of them and MEGA has the license right now, although the International Space Station has been a set before so I'm not going to rule it out entirely

Gravatar
By in Australia,

sonic, goose game or krusty krab

Gravatar
By in United States,

Most Likely:
Licensed - Sonic the Hedgehog or Spongebob
Unlicensed - Globe or Waterfall

Personal Preference:
Futurama, though I think it highly unlikely due to the necessary minifigure head molds.

It will be interesting to see if the Sesame Street set in development changes Ideas restrictions for character molds.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Krustry Crab all the way with Castle in the Forest as my runner up. Anything else would have to have TREMENDOUS value for its price, like the friends set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'd love to see either the Bowling Alley, coz we've never gotten a set like that before, or the Queen set!! Xx

Gravatar
By in United States,

My own personal preferences aside, these are my predictions...

1 Poppins - No, too large (they never do more than a baseplate)
2 Tesla - No. Not a production vehicle yet, so design may change.
3 Goose - No
4 Chitty - No, obscure Disney
5 Station - No, too large
6 SpaceX - No, phallic
7 Gemini - No
8 Bowling - No, too large for sport with limited appeal
9 Indy - No way would this get licensed for a "trilogy" or the studio would be seen as acknowledging the 4th film was crap
10 Modular - No modulars ever get approved
11 Sonic - Possible
12 Fishing - Looks nice, but no
13 KITT - Possible
14 Snow - No Technic ever gets approved
15 Castle - Unlikely as it takes up more than 1 baseplate
16 Coraline - Nope!
17 Rome - Cool, but doesn't pop. No kid appeal.
18 Ruins - Looks cool, but never.
19 Spongebob - Maybe if this was 14 years ago, but never in 2020.
20 Waterfall - Likely
21 Queen - No
22 Futurama - Planet Express ship already being considered. They'd make that over this if anything.
23 Iron Giant - Relatively obscure film, but fans love it. 50/50 chance.
24 Zelda - No. Castle is way too large for Lego to test the Zelda waters. They may have other plans already.
25 Blue Origin - No way. If SpaceX has never been approved, this will never be either.
26 Globe - If they can make it sturdy enough to spin and not fall apart, then YES.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Robot99, there is no rule saying only one or two will ever get produced, but based upon the sets submitted here, I think it’s a fair assumption. Ideas is still kind of a niche thing and doesn’t have the widespread appeal other themes or sets would, so they won’t want to produce too many. And frankly, despite the grand number of qualifiers, only a few would really be viable.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@monkyby87 I agree. If there were 100 sets up for review, that in no way obligates Lego to have to approve 10 of them. In planning and budgeting, they likely figure they'll do X sets from Ideas each year...so that means they know they have to pick one or two from each round. I'm sure they can't say, "All of these are great! Let's make them ALL!" even if licensing wasn't an issue.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cheering for Retro Bowling Alley, Bricks & Blooms and the Iron Giant.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

With 26 to choose from, it is incredibly difficult to decide. However I’d say my top 5 are (not in order): Cherry Tree Lane, The Iron Giant, Indiana Jones, Castle in the Forest and Rome.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang would be a honourable mention, even though I absolutely hate the film.

@PDelahanty:
Is Chitty actually Disney? I swear it’s United Artists.

Gravatar
By in United States,

just give me sonic and ill be happy

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow there are some great models in here. I agree with others, we don't need more space items, and a few would appeal to a small crowd. Would be great if they split it up or push some of them into the next decision time frame, they have done that before. Would really like to see the train station, mary poppins, knight rider car, chitty chitty bang car, bowling alley, so many cool ones to choose from!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like a few of these but the ones I really like if made will be very pricey. My favorite is Bricks & Blooms. I like the station but don't know that I'd buy it. Like The Indy idea. Castle in the Forest is nice. I like the Globe & the Ruined House but wouldn't buy either. The only other one I like is Mary Poppins

Gravatar
By in United States,

There's some wonderful stuff here. I'm a longtime Castle geek, so I'd love to see the Castle in the Forest, but the florist shop is really charming, and there's such ingenuity in the globe and waterfall. The only one I really dislike is the Cybertruck. Like, why?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Don't care about any of the licensed sets, but the Castle in the Forest is very set worthy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

There are some interesting builds but the fishing boat is the only one I’d buy. I’ve always wanted a brick-built modern commercial boat of some kind.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Waterfall is probably my standout & the one I think will pass
I can see Knight Rider being done
There's a lot of nice models that I can't see happening for various reasons

Gravatar
By in United States,

I know it is a larger model, but with the recent Barracuda Bay precedent I think Mary Poppins has a chance. Personally, the film was a recurring favorite of my childhood so an official LEGO rendition would be *very* tempting.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Castle In the Forest
Iron Giant
Earth Globe

So many strong contenders!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think anything tied to a license should be automatically removed from the list of contenders.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Sandinista:
Ah...you might want to recheck our sources. It was aired on ABC, but they never had any ownership. Hanna-Barbera was the production company, which eventually ended up part of Time Warner. So, WB ended up in charge of the IP.

@TheWackyWookiee:
It is, but it _feels_ like a Wonderful World of Disney movie.

@LINK_O_NEAL:
Two sets got archived with no public explanation. One of those was the Gravity Falls Mystery Shack. One of the two designers apparently came forward and confirmed that their project got shelved because they were a LEGO Store employee at the time, which made them ineligible for the program. I don't know that we've ever heard any explanation on the other project, but it might be a similar case.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I understand people are getting tired of space set but they have a few advantages over other sets: 1) Lego produced 3 of them (2 Ideas, 1 Creator) and they have a very good idea on how well they sell; 2) If you have Saturn V, the Lander and the ISS, you WILL get the Gemini Capsule! Not an advantage but this model is sufficiently different to bring interesting building techniques (building a proper cone out of Lego with textures and all). Assuming they'd pick 3, I suppose getting the capsule would not be too alienating for fans of other themes. If they'd pick only that one I guess there would be an uproar.

I think modular is pretty much out of the question but I'd love Lego to make an official train station (one and a half plate size like the Assembly Square). The half size plate for the tracks otherwise it would not fit with the rest of the layout.

The boat is non-licensed, is quite different from what we had already and could bring a lot of new techniques. (would buy that)

My favourite theme is Technic but I don't keep my hopes too high for the snow groomer - it is fantastic but it is huge and might not have a broad enough appeal - and Technic has never been selected - although there is always room for a first! (would buy that)

The Castle in the forest would be nice but it may be endangered by the fact that we will have a Blacksmith shop in the not too distant future. (Would buy that)

The Iron giant seems like a nice idea. It seems like most people like the idea and it is not too big. I wonder why they refused it the first time around (but reaching 10k twice is quite a statement I guess).

The globe is also a neat idea and as someone already pointed out, if they can make it sturdy enough then that would look nice beside the ship in a bottle.

While I can't really remember the movie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang would be great but only if they do chrome parts. Since they don't anymore this set would look like crap without the chrome. If they decide to do the chrome this set will sell just for that even if buyers never build the original model. Imagine that: chrome parts in silver, gold and bronze - that would be the graal.

Reviving an IP seems unlikely but if it's Disney you never know! The new alliance with Nintendo will probably also have an impact on the previous and current Zelda proposals.

Very nice selection indeed. Best of luck to all the talented builders. Still waiting for that piano...

Gravatar
By in United States,

It feels like every review Ideas moves closer to becoming a second Flickr. I love that all of these hit 10K (looking at you, untitled goose game), but an amazing build or an interesting mechanism or a funny reference doesn't make a MOC a good official set (still looking at you, untitled goose game).

The working waterfall would be cool as a part of a larger build.

Fishing boat will go well with Fishing store!

By in Turkey,

I liked Sponge Bob the most. It has great dertails and it's very well built. This should be conssdered as a TV series set like the Friends or Big Bang Theory set, not like the previous Sponge Bob sets.

Other than that, I think Gemini has the greater chance of being chosen. Looks good and continues the realistic space line.

Only reason there are 26 this time is people bored from sitting indoors and looking for something to do. Some of these were sat at 6,000 - 7,000 for weeks. Then all of a sudden we have a record number of passes. It’s no coincidence....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

When people say LEGO isn’t an adult toy they haven’t seen that SpaceX moc.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What an eclectic mix. I'd be on board for some of these, thought not sure their chances. Guess we'll just wait and see. Sign me up for KITT if they improve the design. That Rome model looks spectacular but I think too big to pass. Some of these just don't have that "Ideas" feel (mass appeal, reasonable size/cost, easy or no license).

Gravatar
By in United States,

My first thought is my eyes on that bowling alley, (Guess why?) and it would no doubt be an instant day one buy and would be my favorite Ideas set. My second set would be the globe. probably not as hard as the piano would be, but I think the hard part would would be trying to make those squares into a ball like range, and leaving spaces in between. How would the core be made? Haha. The ruined house would be my third. I have a 4th being the castle, but with Bricklinks Lowenstein and Ideas upcoming medieval black smith, it's hard seeing the castle passing.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If we've learnt anything from Lego Ideas so far it should be that it's about the idea, not the actual build. So there's no point saying 'It's too big/small/detailed etc as if Lego think that the concept has a market they'll redesign it to whatever size/scale they think will sell best.

My guesses are always wildly off the mark so I'm just going to wait and see on this list.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Don't forget the top 9 finalists of the music contest which will be reviewed as a potential set during this review stage as well! That's 35 projects they have to review! The next review results are gonna be interesting for sure.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I hope the globe or fishing boat get through, so many based on IP and so many recent that are IP related, it would be nice to see more original stuff get through. Having said that I would love Chitty to make it lol, car and a classic movie from my childhood = must have. With the piano still to come out (and likely expensive) they will probably want to lean towards smaller original idea's that don't require licensing and still have large appeal.

Still can't figure out how some of these even made it to the 10,000 though - that truck thing looks awful and have no idea what iron giant is.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I really want Zelda but I think it'll be too big. The waterfall is nice but, truly, I am rooting for @BenBuildsLego!

Gravatar
By in Italy,

I would like to see Untitled Goose Game, with a digital download code in the set!

just kidding, I like UGG, but it won't make it. Good MOC tho

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Knight rider all the way for me. Too many very large or obscure sets there for production. Don’t think there’s many at all with a realistic chance which is a shame. The globe is great and would make an epic display piece.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Want:
4 Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
10 Bricks and Bloom
15 The Castle in the Forest (If Pirates can get a set, Castle Claire Space deserve a set)

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Fishing boat, K.I.T.T or the Earth globe would be the ones I would buy. In that order.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang would be cool, but as there is zero chance they would release it with all those lovely chrome pieces, it's a no from me.
There are some cool others, but I really have no clue as to what TLG will eventually choose to realize.

On second thoughts, the Earth globe might actually stand a pretty good chance.
It's not too big, there is no licence involved, it could appeal to people not normally into LEGO, it is like nothing that has ever been done before, it would make an awesome desk display piece.
I notice I am really getting my hopes up here...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow so many!

I'm utterly confused by Goose game...

Favorites are Train Station, Bricks & Blooms, Coraline's Pink House (would like this the most, been following that one for awhile), and the Bowling Alley. The castle one would be a really great set as well, like Pirates coming back, as others have said. I also think the Iron Giant would be a really great display model.

Sonic -Green Hill Zone for me. The Sega arcade cabinets came so close. The colours bounce right out. A nice complement to Mario sets!

So many great builds! Gives me lots of joy of just looking at the pictures. Favorite one this time (as general idea) is the Earth Globe. Otherwise I always love buildings, so I hope one of the buildings makes it, regardless which one; they all look great. Also love K.I.T.T... the memoires. Oh man so much good stuff.

Gravatar
By in Jersey,

A lot of big projects there! I would love to see the Krusty Krab, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, K.I.T.T., Indiana Jones skyline or the Fishing Boat, but I think LEGO will go with any of the (*yawn) space ideas or the globe (which could be a good set) - I look forward to seeing those results!

Wow - the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang model is amazing. they're all great, but that really stands out as something very special indeed.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Most likely would be Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, though that's a bit obscure these days, and the globe.

I wholeheartedly agree that the Ideas space sets need to stop.

OK, here are my thoughts:

1 - Unlikely 1.5/4
2 - Passing fad. No 1/4
3 - Really doubt it. No 0/4
4 - Beautiful but somehow don’t see it 2.5/4
5 - Amazing looking train station - but too big? 2.5/4
6 - No 2/4
7 - I like a minifig-scaled space project 3.5/4
8 - Original concept 3/4
9 - I like Indy, but that’s just a display set 2/4
10 - I love that one, but LEGO have never approved a modular set 3/4
11 - With the movie that just came out, it’s a possibility 2.5/4
12 - Would look great next to the Old Fishing Store 3/4
13 - I think they turned down a KITT model before, didn’t they? 2/4
14 - Not sure about that one 2/4
15 - Harking back to nostalgia - worked for the Pirates ;) 3/4
16 - Doubt it 2/4
17 - Looks amazing - biggest architecture set ever? 3/4
18 - Looks great - but I don’t see it 2.5/4
19 - No idea, but I don’t like it 1.5/4
20 - Possibly, original dust gatherer 2.5/4
21 - Hope not 1.5/4
22 - I’d rather a minifig-size Plantet Express 1.5/4
23 - A similar project was already turned down. 3/4
24 - Huge set, unsure 2/4

I love the Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. So much nostalgia, not only from my own childhood, but my kids childhood! I've been following it on Ideas for a long time. That's my number 1. What an awesome display piece it would be, especially if they use chromed parts! It's the only one I would actually buy from this collection, as I am running out of room to display my sets and have started to be a bit more discriminating about my purchases in the past year.

Exactly! The trouble is that there aren't enough :-D

By in Australia,

While I would love Lego to make a Futurama set, I think I'd prefer a minifig scale Planet Express Ship to this version.... Would still buy it though..

Gravatar
By in Australia,

There are just so many.
Personally I love CCB as a model, not sure it has a wide appeal though. I love space sets, and the Gemini looks nice. Tbh the only others that appeal to me are the ship, waterfall (just very cool) and the globe. The rest are amazing though, but with so many choices, there will be little agreement, no matter which, if any, are chosen.

By in Germany,

Hard to predict, really. Lastly, the decisions made were a little 'strange' (at least on first impression). So, nothing is obvious any longer in terms of Ideas I'd say.
Well, except that Modulars don't get made. So these are out. And I highly doubt Zelda.
Space is always popular (and I really like it), but see comments above...

I really, really like the ruined house, but I don't have high hopes for that one.

PS: And I'd buy a globe if they manage to get it done properly

By in Canada,

I’m betting on the Green Hill Zone or the Krusty Krab! Those 2 should be popular with kids if LEGO decides to do both.

By in United States,

Iron Giant and SpaceX are my favs . . . but since both have already failed . . . I'm not sure either are a possibility.

I am curious about the SpaceX Falcon though . . . how many of these have gotten this far . . . 3 . . . 4 . . .? It definitely seems there is strong support. And with Astronauts set to go to the ISS on a Falcon later this month . . . it seems that we will definitely get a Falcon before too long. Maybe not as an Ideas set though?

By in Canada,

All the ones I want probably won't happen.
- Mary Poppins (too large unless seriously down-scaled.)
- Coraline (does the movie have enough popularity...?)
- Futurama (very circular building, also I'm not sure if it has the support since the last Futurama project when down as well.)
- Iron Giant (they didn't choose it last time, why should they now?)
- Hyrule Castle (waaaaay to big. It would need to be at least Disney Castle size to be decent.)

To be honest, the only project out of the whole 26 that has a decent chance is The Krusty Krab. LEGO already owns the license, and we haven't had a Spongebob set in years.

By in United States,

GO GREEN HILL ZONE AND PLEASE INCLUDE TAILS!!!

Ahem. Apologies.

Anyway, I kinda doubt Coraline will make it. That movie is kinda, well, really messed up if you think about it. I enjoyed it but I think a LEGO line with a film about two characters trying to sew buttons into a child’s eye sockets won’t exactly be the best for brand image.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

I can’t imagine them making the ruined house, but that’s the only one that really interests me.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

A poll would have made it easier to see which set(s) people think will be chosen. Anyway, my vote goes to KITT.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cybertruk, knight rider, globe and snow groomer ohh and the great fishing boat.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can also see the Cybertruck getting made . . . there are two remote controlled Cybertruck's being produced by HotWheels . . . so clearly Tesla is interested in licensing products.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think Spongebob is a shoo-in. It fits the trend with pirate bay of "old theme but updated to be a large D2C type set." Green Hill Zone might pass, and I think Indy has a chance, but only as a concept. I think it would be completely reworked if it passed.

I think it's perfectly fine. It's rated PG and has some darker themes but nothing grotesque.

By in United Kingdom,

The train station is awesome. There have been no AFOL-oriented train stations, so I wonder if this could be picked and redesigned to be smaller.

Also love the Futurama set.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

OMG, NO GO to more space related sets.

My votes and hopes goes to (in no particular order):
-Retro Bowling Alley
-The Great Fishing Boat
-Spongebob Squarepants - The Krusty Krab

Maybe:
-Futurama Planet Express Headquarter, Spaceship and the Crew (too bad it's mico scale)
-The Iron Giant - 20th Anniversary Edition

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I have literally zero interest in any of these...NEXT!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The Iron Giant would be a dream come true, the Krusty Krab would be nice, and I'm a Coraline fan. This could be good.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd buy the Chity Chitty Bang Bang car, but only if they included the plated parts.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Your_Future_President:
It would be hilarious if they picked the Cybertruck and slipped a sticker with spiderweb cracks in there so you could stick it on the windshield.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The globe will make it. It's of a piece with the ship in a bottle and the pop-up book - ideas that appeal because of their attractiveness and the challenges of rendering them in bricks. This kind of thing is very strong in that it can appeal to people well beyond the usual AFOL fanbase.

Gravatar
By in United States,

As a kid, Spongebob was nearly my whole life. Absolutely love the show, and some of the early episodes still hold up today. That said, I would be floored if they approved it! The model is excellently detailed, and shows the passion of the designer. Spongebob is also hugely popular with kids and adults, so it's more marketable than say, Coraline.

Zelda and Sonic probably won't happen since I can see Lego making themes of those in the near future. Most of the others are licenses with niche appeal/not enough brand recognition. Futurama may have a chance since we did get Simpsons sets, but it's up in the air.

I love space, but I think it needs its own theme. People clearly love the subject, so it's foolish for Lego to ignore that market.

Other than the Krusty Krab, I have to go with the Castle set. We haven't gotten a true historical Castle set in at least 7 years, and it's been 9 since the last good Castle theme (Kingdoms). AFOLs have been crying out for Castle sets for YEARS, and again, Lego seems to ignore that market (save for the occasional CMF). So, my vote goes to the Krusty Krab and the Castle in the Forest.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

@huw
Hey, can we make a poll to vote for what set(s) we believe wil make it to the production-line? Maybe with the option to vote for multiple sets, since TLC could chose several?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Mary poppins is best by far

Gravatar
By in Norway,

My favorites would be the Coraline house and the Fishing Boat (love that color scheme), the Castle and the Globe are also nice. But both of them are too large, especially the boat is about twice as big as ideal - it would totally dwarf out the Fishing Store set and I think the Hidden Side boat works better with that (also, does the frontmost dark red 2x4 curve intersect the keel?).

As others has mentioned, it seems like too many uses Ideas as a MOC gallery without any regards about how the models works as a set. The Ruined House looks very nice but again way too large, and how many would actually buy it? The Mediterranean style doesn't fit that well with other sets available, and personally I'd preferred it a bit less damaged so it could actually be inhabited by (poor) minifigs.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

As long as Lego continues to do something completely different with the original submission, I don't bother anymore.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The ones that stand out to me are Krusty Krab, Globe, Iron Giant, Bowling Alley, Waterfall, Castle in the Forest, and Bricks and Bloom. If it was up to me and we could only do 2 or 3, I would take the Castle in the Forest, Krusty Krab, and Iron Giant.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It's hard, I love most of them. Would love to build and display Chitty, and the rocket moule is ace, the globe is great, but I would buy and want the Iron Giant

I love Indy too, but dont like the big statue on the left

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think of all of them, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is a winner. It is to scale, great detail, reminds me of the corgi model I had as a kid in the 70s and I would love to own and build it for display. I'm disappointed that the children were not included though as minifigures. I would choose the Ruined House as my second choice as it has so much character and shows some history of a home that has been left and never relived.

Many other great builds too like the Iron Giant and the Train Station. Well done to all the 26 qualifiers.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Personal choice - Sonic and Knight Rider

Ruined House looks stunning, but I can't see it being chosen.

ANY space set is a huge NO from me, go away!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Do we know when the results for the previous group will be revealed (the one with Ratatouille)? Also, is it known when Sesame Street and Winnie the Pooh will release?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Would love Chitty Chitty Bang Bang but my money is on the Fishing Boat being approved.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@jperlman:
Usually shortly after they close one review class, they announce the results of the previous review class. Set announcements, on the other hand, can be all over the map. A few have been unveiled right after their review announcements, while others have been stuck in design limbo long enough to get released out of order.

Gravatar
By in United States,

They should totally go with the globe. It's gonna be big in my opinion.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I want more space sets. There's a lot of projects here I like that aren't, like the castle or Rome, and I hope they pass as well. But the designs on the new rockets are great, I'd love to put them next to the Saturn V.

I know people are sick of them, but, AFAIK, if they get approved, they're not taking up a slot. Lego could approve as many other projects as could be approved. A Space set not getting approved just means we're down a set, not that some other set can fill that slot.

I believe Coraline has plenty of cross appeal for adults and kids. I like Spongebob and all, but it definitely appeals mostly to kids and LEGO has already made Spongebob sets. I prefer something new, especially from IDEAS.

Steamboat Willie
Flintstones (Owned by ABC, a Disney subsidiary) "

They did become sets. But remember, they all have a fair shot

By in United States,

Wow, really a lot of good quality creations this time! My personal favorites are Mary Poppins and the Ruined House. The Ruined House does need some inhabitants in my opinion - maybe some sheep, or bats or something :-)

Good batch unlike some recent ones that had no appeal to me.
