PREPARE TO BE SPOOKED WITH THE BRAND-NEW LEGO HAUNTED HOUSE SET
The LEGO Group has announced the LEGO Haunted House, a hair-raising new fairground build for adult thrill-seekers - available from 20th May from LEGO.com and LEGO Stores
[13th May 2020] Gear up for a spooky ride and bring to life the ultimate ghostly fairground experience, with the brand-new LEGO Haunted House set. This latest addition to the LEGO Fairground collection is jam-packed with exciting features to surprise and entertain even the bravest of thrill-seekers.
Modelled on Manor Von Barron, the spooky home of one of the world’s greatest villains - Samuel Von Barron, the new LEGO Haunted House model is full to the brim with spine-tingling details. Its clever design features a fully functional free-fall ride with automatic doors at the top of the tower, giving brave riders a glimpse of the thrilling plummet to come, as well as intricate ghoulish details such as haunted doors and a cursed painting to warn off any trespassers.
To enhance the spooky experience even further and unlock special features, such as a moving elevator, fans can also add LEGO Powered Up components (available separately) and control and amplify the set as they build via LEGO’s Powered Up app.
The 3,231-piece LEGO Haunted House model not only makes an impressive and creepy display piece, standing at over 26.5” (68cm) high, 9” (25cm) wide and 9” (25cm) deep, but also gives fans the chance to get hands-on and immerse themselves in the ghostly world. LEGO builders can open the model’s exterior and enter the ultimate haunted house to discover the features hidden inside - revealing Von Barron’s extensive collection of stolen artefacts which nod to LEGO brick sets of the past, including the Organ of Catarino and the Orb of OGEL.
This brand-new set has been designed specifically with adults in mind - providing an immersive, creative experience for them to re-focus, re-charge and get creative, whether they’re enjoying alone or as a challenging build with friends or younger builders.
The new LEGO Haunted House construction set is the latest example of how the LEGO Group aims to inspire builders of all ages to build, rebuild and get excited by the process of creation. It’s also the first set from the LEGO Fairground Collection to feature the new stylish packaging designed to make it easier than ever for adult fans to find their new build challenge based on their individual passions.
Addressing the new packaging, Senior Marketing Manager Anders Hellegaard Iversen said: “So many of our older builders love the Creator Expert products, as they allow them to show off their passion for the bricks. Whether it’s their favourite film moments, sport icons, travel destinations, buildings, fairgrounds or vehicles, LEGO sets help to bring these to life in brick form. That’s also why we have decided to stop using the Creator Expert branding and, instead, use the new adult-focused packaging design to make it clearer which hobbies or brand products they can relate to. We hope this will make it easier for fans to track down models they would be proud to display once completed. Of course, our product range will continue to include the same advanced-build, collectible products that guarantee hours of building enjoyment for fans.”
The brand-new LEGO Haunted House is available to VIP members from 20th May and for remaining LEGO fans from 1st June, direct from LEGO.com and LEGO Stores.

Damn that looks nice.
This set is amazing! Can’t wait to get it!
Confirmation that “Creator Expert” is no more....
Very nice but those renders are awful, especially on the gold pieces
Looks a worthy successor to 10228 - and its released 1 day before my birthday. Order going in!
So... no monster figures, but this looks even better than the 2012 version. That ones still excellent, but this is a perfect example of how 8 years of innovation can change a build. Also, the Adventurers references are amazing. Has it ever been claimed before that his name is “Samuel”?
That's pretty sweet! Won't be getting it because I've gotta save up haha, but that's really cool, nice one LEGO!
This leaked on Monday so I was hoping the official announcement wouldn’t be too far behind. Definite buy for me (eventually).
Amazing! Strong resemblance to the Disney ride Tower of Terror in Orlando
BARON Von Barron's MANOR?? Is this a sign that ADVENTURERS are coming BACK?!?!
I love the Modular Buildings, so obviously I need this set :)
Very cool. Wish it had more characters that were creepy/scary not just more skeletons and ghosts.
Spooky stuff doesn't particularly interest me, and consequently neither do haunted house attractions at theme parks in real life. But then I saw that this was actually Manor von Barron, and that the sphinx and jackal heads exactly match the classic adventurers sets (like https://brickset.com/sets/5978-1/Sphinx-Secret-Surprise )... LEGO is driving nostalgia really hard this year, and it's wonderful! (I also find it particularly impressive that the sculptures are such a classic design when everything else about the model is so incredibly modern and detailed.)
Would have loved this to have been an Addams Family set!!
Well, hot-diggity-dang, that is superb!
Spooky, detailed, includes an actual fairground ride; perfect. And those opening-together front doors are nicely done.
I just noticed it comes with two identical ghosts (which is fine) but it also comes with two identical ride operators wearing top hats (which is weird). Why didn’t they at least change the minifig faces? Are they supposed to be freaky twins or something?
Cool set! But I do not like the new 'let's render everything' product images. I liked the 'real' ones better.
This looks awesome, and I love all the references! I spot the sphinx’s head from 5978, Anubis heads from 5988, the stupa from 7412, the wavy-armed skeleton thing from 7417, and orbs from Alpha Team. I’m not sure what significance the Organ of Catarino has, though. Also, clever of Lego to name him Samuel von Barron. I’m not sure if that helps solve the name question or just complicates it more!
As someone who loved Adventurers and loves cool buildings, I’d probably buy one of these and repurpose it for my town if I had the funds to do so. Sadly, I probably don’t. But still, it looks great!
Oh, and I love the wheelchair accessibility!
SWEET!!

What do you mean by that?
I know everyone else is going to be freaking out about the Adventurers references, but...
WHAT!?? "THE ORB OF OGEL"?? WHERE????
Also, I love that camera allll the wayyyyy on the top right. Really sells that fairground aesthetic. :-D
Wow! Such a beautiful exterior, and nice throwback reference to Baron Vonn Barron.. The interior is a little underwhelming at first glance, almost wish the fairground element was absent, and it was just a 'normal' haunted house.. .. But that exterior is just stunning, kinda makes up for the last 2 or 3 Modulars.

"but it also comes with two identical ride operators wearing top hats (which is weird). Why didn’t they at least change the minifig faces? Are they supposed to be freaky twins or something?"
Yeah, that is weird! Wonder if that’s an error in the renders or how it’ll actually be? Can’t say I’m a fan if its just the same figure x2. These aren’t classic smiley figs Lego, you can’t just repeat them!
Anyways, glad it’s finally revealed officially. Love the set, love the grown up box art.
It's near perfect, DARN IT! Don't you people at TLG know I'm broke and still trying to negotiate a way to buy Pirates of Barracuda Bay! Guess I'm going to have to adjust my Must Buy list... and maybe buy a lotto ticket today.
Beautiful, beautiful, I love this.
Though shame they didn't include the Powered Up elements for the drop tower. Separately these Powered Up elements needed would be £58.
Just watched the designer video for this set on YouTube (it’s very amusing - I highly recommend checking it out) and they do indeed confirm the two identical minifigs are freaky twins. Lots of other fun trivia about the set on there too.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zYl10Z5LV58
Check out the really high tower version they built to test the system that slows the carriage down before it hits the ground. Epic!
@Robot99, I think on the right of the Sfinx head. Indeed a reference to the Alpha Team series, for example, the head in 4790.
I was wondering what that camera was doing there up right, but of course.. When the house is closed, you'll get a nice action pic!
Also a reference to Oriënt Expedition. The yellow round pile thingy from 7412 and the skeleton head with weird arms from 7410.
It seems like a pretty good price in the US/Europe, but even better in the UK (compared to most sets).
I am torn. It is a beautiful set, and surely I want to save up for it. At the same time, I was really hoping that Disney would produce a Haunted Mansion after the Ideas set did not pass review. With this in existence, the possibilities of a HM set are slim and none, and slim just left town. It is a fantastic looking build though. Hopefully I get to keep my job and buy it at some point.
This is super cool. I was never into the older haunted themes, but this actually interests me with its more adult feel.
I'm not so sure about it being a fairground attraction personally - it doesn't seem to fit super well with the others, and then the big drop seems kinda unexpected. It also seems very square and angular, but I guess that's what a haunted house should be like.
It really looks fantastic though, and would be awesome to display. It's not something I'd get anytime soon, but if it's still about on a slow period for Lego that interests me (which doesn't seem to be happening anytime soon lol) I may consider getting it, as it'll likely be around for a while!
'The Orb of OGEL' really? could they not come up with anything cheesier than an orb named after LEGO but backwards?
"Why should kids get all the spooky fun?" I didn't know we did. I sincerely apologise to all adults for stealing their 'spooky fun' which they have a clear right to.
I like the look of it, but that explanation is just really bad. £210 for 3100 pieces isn't the worst. Some might even say it's good. But then making buyers build a working elevator and then saying "Oh yeah, now you've got to pay £50 for the remote control" seems a little bit criminal.
"This set was specially designed for adults in mind" by stating that, you're losing a couple of hundred teens. Is it even necessary to include that? Are they going to stop everyone under 18 from buying the set? I very much doubt it. If they are, I will willingly sell my whole LEGO collection on eBay.
Named artefacts are just ridiculous, especially when they are LEGO spelt backwards. I like the idea of a backstory, but why name some artefacts or even the villain? More importantly, why are the family there?
"thrilling plummet" Wow LEGO have been doing their English homework! They used hyperbole and oxymoron! Gold Star, LEGO! (voice dripping with sarcasm)
To me, it looks like a good set but not one to class as a fairground ride. The only bit about it that may be a little fairgroundy is the elevator moving up and down and the "ride", which you have to pay extra for. What's gonna happen is that people will pre-order it, and it'll go out of stock. Then, they'll announce the price for the remote and app, which will be ridiculous and more than half of the people who pre-ordered won't want it any more.
It looks like a nice set. I like the ppp. I DON'T like the fact that you have to buy some stuff separately. I DON'T like the description, which is horrible pathetic and stupid.
@Slobrojoe said:
"'The Orb of OGEL' really? could they not come up with anything cheesier than an orb named after LEGO but backwards?"
It's an Alpha Team reference.
So disappointed. I was looking forward to a proper fairground ride and instead we just get another house? Come on lego.
To paraphrase the marketing manager: "We think you're too stupid to figure out what you might like, so our new packaging design will tell you."
This looks very good....
I will go for the roller coaster first, though.
Does anyone know what the organ of Catarino is?
I like it but the absence of bright colours and a fun feeling makes this a bit of an outlier compared to the rest of the fairground range.
Amazing! Day one purchase, although it looks like day one in the UK is 1st June :/
I was growing more and more excited about this set the further I read, and then it hit me: It's too tall to fit in my display case. *Way* too tall. I guess I dodged a bullet? Disappointed, but relieved as well. Finances aren't great, and these sets just keep creeping up in price. :-/
They don't mention it in the video but is that Junkbot I spy in some of the product images?
I'll buy it, but will display it closed, I like the look of it.

Thanks. Well that makes it better. Not.
Take my money right now

Story of my life lol. To be fair you could probably decrease the tower by one floor fairly easily. Also I would imagine this will be around for a while so if finances get better you can always reconsider :)
This is quite nice! In addition to all the easter eggs (including one that went unmentioned in the press release and video, a disassembled Junkbot in the attic), I really appreciate the fact that they made this ride wheelchair accessible. It's a little thing, but considering how often that doesn't get accounted for in designs (such as in the roller coaster set's long, winding line with multiple sets of stairs and no ramps), it's a nice touch that reflects the real world.
RE: the twin ride operators - they mention it in the video. It’s intentional.
LEGO you need to STOP! I can't keep up with all these awesome sets you keep making! My wallet is on fire.
Looks amazing. Will have to hold off probably until next year. It kills me, but I still haven't gotten the Creator Expert Roller Coaster, and I'll probably have until years end to snag it. Still 300 Canadian for the piece count/power functions seems more than fare.
@kongutahu said:
"They don't mention it in the video but is that Junkbot I spy in some of the product images?"
Wow, awesome catch... it totally is! In the attic, disassembled in the crate between the Orb of OGEL and the ornament from the Orient Expedition yeti set. The more I look at this set, the more there is to see!
Dang it! I was going to resist this one. I’ve got a few “haunted house” sets so I thought it’d be fine but then they went for the nostalgia play and made it tie in to Adventures (the return of which I pine for!) and sold me completely!
That's not a fairground set, it's a Museum (I was talking about how great it will be if LEGO made a good Modular based on one, but this is close for now) of past LEGO themes that the two included siblings turned into an attraction. I love all the references (Alpha Team and Adventures) and had 2 of my orders weren't messed up by the company I wpuld have been even more interested.
Seems there are no stickers, which is nice!
I looks fantastic and has gone straight onto my wanted list. It's also great to see that they've included a wheelchair using customer and built the ride to be accessible for them.
For anyone who’s counting: 68 cm tall (with a couple less for visual height), this is ~10cm/~4” taller than the 10247 Ferris Wheel and 10261 Roller Coaster.
Super excited for this one. Brings back 90's child memories too...
Possibly the best LEGO designer video also that I've ever seen, seriously!
I love the references to older themes and I hope they continue doing this more over time.
I'm not sure if I would put this above the Monster Fighters Haunted House but it's certainly good looking.
Given that the set is for adults I think the ghosts should be fluorescent like the ones in the 90s especially that Lego made a fluorescent angler fish in new City sets.
The box art looks way too minimalistic considering this is supposed to be part of the Fairground series. It's as if it was more shoehorned into the series after they realized that haunted houses were a theme park attraction too.
As for the designer video, and all the nostalgic references in the set itself... those are awesome. Even if I'm not big on haunted houses.
Super! Very nice add to a spooky village....but in my opinion 10228 still look better
Really clever; if I could just change one thing, it would be the olive green bricks; I would have preferred (dark) grey. It's not going to be a day one purchase, though, as I've already splurged on SW sets this month…
I like the reference to @Catarino; is this some kind of tribute for your brilliant career? :D
Even thinking about the Australian price makes me want to weep, openly.
I must say I was Really hoping for bumper cars to be the next fairground attraction, but I’ll take this too.
I am very happy it is totally different from 10228
Oh, and BTW that 2012 set was a proper haunted house, this not so much. 10273 looks interesting, and nice, but (at least to me) the pictures show a clean stately manor, not something really spooky, haunted, and horrific. Surely it will look very impressive in any Lego city layout.
I would like this set if I wasn't put off by the whole 18+ thing and the awful product images. These look like they came from digital designer or something. The box looks unfinalized, drab and unappealing. Does Lego think you become allergic to backgrounds when you turn 18?!
Especially a shame considering that the designers seemed genuinely invested in making this as good as they could. So I'm not happy with the marketing department here.
Furthermore I like the Adventurers/Orient Expedition references but they seem like they are all there is to the interior. No queue?
It is quite nice to see a fully themed drop tower in lego form. And I guess it's not as expensive as I feared. But you have to wonder how this works in-universe? Was adventurers a film series made by the studio crew? And now some props are displayed here. Or is Baron von Baron / Lord Sam Sinister a historic figure they built an attraction about?
EDIT
@gdr36 said:
"So disappointed. I was looking forward to a proper fairground ride and instead we just get another house? Come on lego."
This is actually an attraction, a drop tower. It seems that they took the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and themed it after Adventurers.
Great set but I can't help but think the roof looks very unfinished compared to most of the build. That many bare studs doesn't belong in a $250 set IMO.
Still probably going to get it!
Do you think TLG misspelled 'Barron' on purpose with a double 'RR', instead of just one 'R'?!?!?
I am extremely disappointed in the loss of Creator Expert, one of the most challenging and coveted LEGO themes. I feel that it would be more likable of a set if it retained the standard Creator Expert packaging, and people who aren't 18+ would be more likely to buy it as well.
@TheBigLegoski said:
"Do you think TLG misspelled 'Barron' on purpose with a double 'RR', instead of just one 'R'?!?!?"
It has precedent
From Brickipedia: "Lord Sam Sinister, (formerly known as Baron Von Baron/Barron, Sam Sanister/Sinister, Evil Eye and Mr. Hates) was the main villain from the Adventurers and Orient Expedition themes."
Huw, even though this article mentions that this set is not part of the now-defunct Creator Expert line I noticed that the set has been tagged with the Creator Expert theme on Brickset.
Definitely buying this day one. It’ll be a great filler until HP gets released in August.
@Bison_Bricks - We must categorise this set somehow and Creator Expert was the logical choice here for various reasons. Firstly, that is how the set is categorised on LEGO.com. Also, anybody searching Brickset might reasonably expect to find the Fairground sets together, in which case listing this under Creator Expert and the associated Fairground subtheme seems appropriate.

Aha! Thanks. Yeah, I am not really familiar with that theme that ran from 1998 -2003, since that was during my dark ages. This set does not appeal to some sort of personal nostalgia.
I like the building, but more as a building than a fairground attraction, but as a theme park attraction it is nothing compared to the roller-coaster set (which I unfortunately do not own, because I have no space for it currently, plus it is very expensive too, and I cannot buy all sets I like). Though I am sure building all the technic thingies, and hooking it up to power functions will be fun!
At first "Samuel Von Baron" confused me, but I think I get it now. It's a combination of Sam Sinister and Baron Von Baron, the two different names used for the character, kinda how Captain Rodger and Captain Redbeard were combined into Rodger Redbeard. So I suppose his full name now would be "The Sinister Samuel Von Baron." Perhaps his old name was a Bond, James Bond type thing and everyone in-universe misunderstood!
On a related note, my headcanon name for the old man from Adventures was always "Professor Charles Kilroy Lightning" So I guess this adds more credence to using that!
This set would go great with the new Hidden Side line. I've been itching to find the old Monster Fighters house secondhand to add to the HS graveyard, but this might just fill that gap. Hold on, one of the Hidden Side ghosts is named after Adventures character Harry Cane, and LEGO just released a new Johnny Thunder type figure last year... how deep does this rabbit hole go?
I think it is silly TLG trashed the 'creator expert' label/brand/theme/indication, and replaced it with this 18+ 'tag'!

Lots of people grew up with and loved the Alpha Team and Adventures themes and clearly these references were made for them and not you. Take your overused sitcom cliche of a response and get over it.
No, thanks. 10228 is still better. Simpler, and better. And haunted. This one isn't haunted.
Take a look at the set images - a couple of the pictures displaying the model on the table have Adventurers set boxes in the background.
looks pretty good.
The new 18+ branding beats me though....
Ooh tower of terror! Or ghost the haunted house at legoland billund
Wow. What an incredible looking model
Great set.. but definitely in the camp of "yes, eventually"... thing about these £200+ sets that fill in a specific slot eg. this years X....... means they will be around for long enough that either there'll be a discount on somewhere or it'll coincide with a GWP, 2x VIP etc. e.g i'll pick one up opportunistically when that day comes whether that's soon or 2 years hence... I'll only pick up at RRP if it's "retiring soon" and i've not bagged one prior. I've plenty of "have bought it, must build it" in the queue first.
Ooh, all the Adventurers references get me right in the nostalgia

The ‘ghosts’ in this set are supposed to be fairground performers, whereas the ghosts from the ‘90s are supposed to be actual ghosts. Maybe that’s why the old ones glow and these don’t.
Still, their face is a cool Easter egg reference to the ghost from the early ‘90s: https://brickset.com/minifigs/gen002/ghost-with-1-x-2-plate-and-1-x-2-brick-as-legs
Is anyone else thinking of Ganondorf in Ocarina of Times when seeing that pipe organ? Maybe I have just played too much Zelda lately...
Man, their REALLY rubbing it in that this is for adults.
The set is pretty good, doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the fairground.
As always, I don't have £200 spare to drop on anything presently; but I am loving how full of references this thing is! Honestly though, just give me that Adventurers Cursed Painting piece and I'll be good xD
On a more skpetical note, I wonder every time I see it in one of their press releases: do *many* people regularly spend £200+ on a birthday present for a single person? Because that doesn't match up with my experience at all, but Lego certainly seem to imply that it's common...
@Slobrojoe said:

They literally talk about the history of Alpha Team in the design video.
"Why should kids get all the spooky fun?" I didn't know we did. I sincerely apologise to all adults for stealing their 'spooky fun' which they have a clear right to."
Just a tongue-in-cheek comment.

Just because something is designed for another demographic doesn't mean others can't access it. Hardhats are designed for construction workers but it doesn't mean other people can't buy them.
"It looks like a nice set. I like the ppp. I DON'T like the fact that you have to buy some stuff separately. I DON'T like the description, which is horrible pathetic and stupid. "
People aren't paying for the description, they're paying for the set.
I’ll be getting this specifically for the Adventurers tie in!
I noticed there are no pictures of the back, just the front and front opened. Why is that?
Not really impressed for £200+ and those ghosts are awful. Bring back the cowls!
It seems like a way to sneak in a modular while calling it a fairground ride and yet not doing either properly.
@Slobrojoe Wow, you must be new to LEGO and how profit works. Some ignorant and asinine claims you make about a simple set and throw a childish tantrum over it.
It's a cool set and I like the references to Adventurers, but not for me. Also this leaked about a week ago so a bit of late news for me haha.
Adventurers took place during my Dark Age, so all the references are kind of lost on me.
I think it's nowhere near close to the brilliant 10228 (still sad I didn't buy that one before it was discontinued). The proportions feel off; it looks more like a church than a manor.
The painting with the hidden mummy is quite nifty.
The Easter Eggs between this set and the Adventurers theme are actually smart and fun. I really enjoy the build. The only negatives are the box art, price, and blackness of the roof. There could have been more detail involved with that specific part. Maybe greebling or the simple addition of tan, green, or brown tiling.
I just did a writeup on Sphinx Secret Surprise for Featured Set of the Day! What a coincidence...
https://brickset.com/article/51099/featured-set-of-the-day-sphinx-secret-surprise
I'd love an Adventurers theme reboot. Really liked the fake hook in the video - made me crack up.
I dunno. Doesn’t seem very “haunted” to me. Needs more dilapidation and scary stuff.
There’s a certain irony I found - the press release lays it on thick about the set being for adults, and the video reveals that some of the interior details were built by an 8-year old.
Too far from a haunted house. Too far from the genuine Adventurers theme. Too far from the fairground rides line. Too much things in one thing. Not for me.
Very awesome, and definitely a purchase for me, at some point (not right away). I’m happy to see that it incorporates the black corner slope 2x2x3 brick which is so rare. Hopefully this will make that brick more widely available on BrickLink and bring the cost down, which can be as much as $10USD per brick at the current price!!
Instant buy, will never build the elevator but moc the tower levels instead, looks great folded up (in?)
Seriously I think 10228 looks way better than this. This doesn't even look like a house. Looks like Lego just want to make a bigger set so it could be more expensive. And I don't like that it is hinged like a doll house, which is ironic since this is supposed to be 18+, not the other way around. I would pick modular style over hinged any day.
In the photos for the set, I keep seeing this figure that's brown with grey legs. Is that supposed to be TeeVee from Alpha Team?
@BionicleJedi said:

It's actually two parts! Pause at the exclusive prints lineup in the designer video, and you can see that the portrait of the Baron and the ruby is printed on a 1x6x5 wall element, while the "pharoah's curse" bit is printed on a separate 1x4x3 wall element inserted behind.
For me this works great because it will be two sets. The drop mechanism will be taken out and turned into a proper fairground attraction while the house will then go with the other haunted house and the hidden side range. I do think they felt the need to raise the price point of the set rather than just going for a death drop ride and ended up with a mishmash.
This news made me realize I still haven't bought the Rollercoaster yet. Will have to rectify this someday.
But this Haunted House, while looking nice, is nothing I associate with a fairground ride, so it's a no from me. I have never been to a fairground with such a "ride". This is something I would expect from an amusement park like Disneyland or the like. This set would be a better fit for the Disney Castle and Disney Train Station imho.
I really like this set. Not too thrilled with the olive green color but I missed out on the Monster one during one of my dark ages. Won't be a day one purchase for me as I will be waiting for a promo or two at that price point. Probably won't bother with motorizing it. Gives me an excuse to drag out the adventurer sets I have, mostly the smaller ones.
Is this then finally the drop tower set that was rumoured about 18 months ago? Although the set number for the rumour was 10267 which ultimately became the Gingerbread House. Just gathering some thoughts here.
This is ultimately a ‘drop tower’ but is a long way off the original rumour, which claimed to be the drop tower featured in the silhouette on all the other fairground releases. This is also being released a long long time away from the original rumour. It’s similarities to the Disney Tower of Terror are also remarkable. For anyone that’s been to Tokyo Disney the storyline is almost identical although the designers have obviously linked this set to an old Lego series. My thoughts that I want to gather from other members, does anyone else think that maybe the original drop tower was changed to become the Tower of Terror with an official Disney license, and then Lego ran into licensing difficulties with that and so we have ended up with this set, or whether it is a unique set in its own right, just with the similarities to Disney attractions. It is absolutely stunning and amazing but is not quite the Tower of Terror. For anyone not in the know, Disney themselves are having their own licensing difficulties with the Tower of Terror as the license from the Twilight Zone is about to expire and they may have to alter the name. An official Tower of Terror set would be an ultimate dream for me and this set just made me think maybe they were just trying it, but somehow couldn’t manage it but we ended with this remarkable set instead.
Absolutely love this - how fun! Just a haunted house in general would be great, and this one looks very nice aesthetically for display. But the idea to integrate it into the Fairground series was extra cool. Love the functionality of the "ride" and the fun moving parts inside. And also really love how it hinges open and shut - so cool! The quirky details are nice too.
I'll definitely need to be prioritizing sets for purchase as this is going to be an expensive year for Lego! I love the return to doll house type builds instead of facades.
I love all the Easter eggs in this set and the fact it’s the Barron’s house means I’ll definitely consider getting this day one!

It’s Junkbot!
Wow, this looks pretty good. Not a bad price as well. I might reserve this for Christmas or something.
OH MY GOD IT COMES WITH JUNKBOT FROM THAT OLD LEGO.COM GAME
Not sure how this is related to fairgrounds, nice otherwise.
Another great thing about this set is that it really shows the awareness that there is love out there in the Lego community and within the company themselves for the Adventurers theme - a theme I really, really hope they reboot!

Well that seems a little extreme. Maybe they rated it 18+ so you'd be old enough to get the references. ??
I've been collecting all of the fairground sets, so I'm really looking forward to this one! Plus, my first ever set was 2541, making Baron Von Barron my first minifigure, so I see this set as like a tribute to that.
I also feel the age rating is pointless. Do you have to be told what is marketed for you and what target audience you are??
Incidentally as an adult (apparently) I like many parts of this but can't quite feel excited about it as a whole, I don't know why and it is stunningly designed. I am not good at maths so please check me but is this not a cheaper price per piece than the previous Haunted House set 10228?
Let's remember that- SOMETHING BECAME BETTER VALUE!
My limited money will have to go towards the Pirate themed sets.

Mind the fact that this set’s value might be slightly skewed by the couple hundred chain-link elements.
Shropshire - Is the "Retiring soon" labeling any trustworthy? I've been burnt by this earlier, when deciding whether to buy the Ideas Labyrinth or Wall-E. As Wall-E was marked as retiring I went for that one, but the Labyrinth disappeared soon after while Wall-E remained available for months.
Juulhorst - There's at least a small picture of a part of the back on the upper-right backside of the box, showing the crank mechanism. It looks like the back wall is rather empty (similar to the old haunted house), but the tower seems to have some windows.
I'll probably buy this, but guess I'll remove the actual elevator ride part and mod it into more of a real mansion. As such I'm more than happy that I don't have to pay for the totally useless PU parts, especially as I don't have a compatible phone anyway.
I think they've done a somewhat sloppy job with the CGI rendering, as they seem to have forgotten the little dimples under the studs (on the underside of the plates). They did the same mistake in the movie too, it's particularly visible in the scene when they enter the Western world. Also not sure how well the two 16x16 plates under the rear section are joined, they seem to only be held together with two tiles at the front and back.
And yes the "18+" labeling is stupid, as others have said it sounds more like a restriction than a recommendation - it literally makes me imagine a "no" sign similar to the "Not suitable for kids 0-3" symbol on the side of the box. Even for display-only sets (like UCS MF and the helmets) 16+ is more suitable, and this set is far more play-friendly (with the ride, the dollhouse-style opening, the closing doors etc).
The ‘18+’ sign is not a genuine age recommendation; it’s a marketing tactic. LEGO wants to convince teens and adults who aren’t already TFOLS/AFOLs that it’s OK to be interested in what is putatively a kids’ toy.
@Slobrojoe:
Everyone else seems to have caught the reference. Was it a cheesy move back when they named the character for the Alpha Team theme? Sure, but it's part of their history now. There's nothing controversial about the character that would be damaging to their image, so people like to see references to that era, and apparently the set designers are just as amused to incorporate those into a set when they get the opportunity.
@AustinPowers:
So, you're partly right, and partly wrong. In terms of a traveling carnival-style fairground, yeah, this would probably never exist as is. The whole thing is far too bulky with too complex an interior to pack up on semi trailers. But transportable drop towers absolutely do exist. But something else to consider is that the Fairground Mixer is _really_ the only portable-style fairground ride they've ever released. The roller coaster, and every carousel or ferris wheel set, have all been permanent installations like you'd find in a theme park. As some have noted, the Tower of Terror (which I believe has now been converted over to a Guardians of the Galaxy theme) is a very famous example of this very type of ride, with a very similar look.
@justb1:
That was the gumdrop tower set.
@axeleng:
"Retiring Soon" can be taken as an indication that they've probably ceased production on that set, and that anything in the pipeline is all that's left. That doesn't mean anyone will actually buy it. If they run clearance pricing, that usually does the trick, but otherwise the tag can probably stagnate sales as savvy shoppers sit like vultures waiting for the price to drop. And not every set gets the benefit of that tag. I also got burned, but it was on the Joker Manor, which had come out earlier that year, so I figured I had some time on such an expensive set. And by mid-December, it was sold out for good.
I'm nonplussed. I like it, but not $250 like it. It's large. That's what it has going for it, raw size.
The references to past Lego sets mean nothing to me and it's a very poor fit with the rest of the Fairgrounds sets.
This is an easy pass and I've purchased every Lego Fairground set to day.
@guachi: EVERY fairground set so far has been criticized for being a poor fit with the rest. It's almost like real-life amusement park attractions are designed to stand out from each other, not to look alike… I mean, when have you ever seen a fair or amusement park where the haunted house, carousel, and roller coaster all shared the same design language?
@Aanchir:
LEGOLAND! I mean, they're all LEGO-themed, right?

You probably haven't seen any of the massive and luxurious motorhome and comfort stations that travel with the Formula 1 circus. These things look and act like permanent structures but are set up and broken down in a weeks time.
ARE THOSE PARTS IN THAT CRATE WITH THE LEGS PIECES TO A JUNKBOT? If that's for real a JunkBot reference...
Ill probably get it, but during a GWP event or 2x VIP points. I echo other sentiments though, its not really a 'fairground' set. To be fair neither is the roller coaster, or extravagant carousel. The fairground mixer and the little creator fairground 'UFO' sets are more indicative of a fairground set IMO. 'Amusement park' theme encompasses Roller coaster, Carousel, and haunted houses.. I guess it is a case of semantics though.
In the video they mention that a Fright Nights set number is indicated by the Roman numerals on the shield, which looks like VMVII to me... but when I put that in a Roman Numeral convert it tells me this numeral is invalid. Am I missing something?

Perhaps a reference to 5007 Motor which was designed for use with set 180 Gears. Given that the mechanism can be motorised, albeit with recent components, maybe it alludes to that.
Hmmmm... Interesting way to reintroduce old classical themes as Adventures and Alpha Team in form of "haunted house"-type of fairground attraction!
But why these two themes, anyways?
@GHED said:

In the video, the designers explain that they went with Adventurers because they liked it.
But Adventurers and Alpha Team are not the only references. There are also nods to Junkbot, Classic Castle and Hidden Side, maybe others too.
The swamp green colour scheme is unappealing, and the house simply isn't haunted. Where are pop-out ghosts, monsters, trapdoors or swinging medieval weapons?
And the drop ride itself is mostly hidden from view, making it a poor inclusion to the Fairground theme.

IKR. As a musician and Bach fan I NEED THAT ORGAN! Adventurers references are awesome, the mansion is pretty cool but it s such a shame they ruined it with the tower of terror thing. This wouldve made a great mansion build, and it looks like it would go well next to the modulars if the tower was removed.
The box art is a disgrace. I know its a haunted house but its also fairground right? And why does Lego hate their own logo all of a sudden? Furthermore, since when could adults not distinguish between child and adult sets??
The spooky twins thing is just an excuse to do one less new minfigure.

Actually the roman number is 6007. The V has a line above it to indicate 5000 (really not too clear in the images), then you add another 1000 (M), plus the 7 (VII). Therefore, the set it refers to is 6007: Bat Lord, 1997 in the Fright nights subtheme.
Its a no from me, I much preferred the old haunted house, this looks a like a copy with gimmicks and too expensive. The old haunted house was much more value for money than this. Plus you have to spend another £80 to get the free fall lift motorised. I know lego do this with every motorised set, but it gets annoying.

Sounds interesting... As if this set is, actually, a collection of spooky-mementos from almost all old classic themes wrapped in Hidden Side-esque form (besides, this house is near-perfectly alignes with Newbury town-plan).
So it appears that 1 one the mini figures attends Newbury High School as she has the same jacket as Paola from 70425 https://brickset.com/minifigs/hs023/paola
Why did LEGO actually call this one 'Haunted House' (duplicate with old Monster fighters) instead of 'Manor Von Barron'?
As beautiful as the set is, it just doesn't fit within the theme. It is way too ealborately themed and constructed to be a fun fair ride.
Some other members point out that the Mixer was the only genuine fun fair ride but I disagree. The ferris wheel, the caroussel and the roller coaster are all perfectly transportable. Visit a large German fun fair and you would be surprised about the size and dimensions of some of the ferris wheels or roller coasters out there (Olympia Looping e.g.); they simply didn't include the trailers with those sets. There are also transportable drop and/or shot towers but those rely on an exterior build with some basic theming/decorations at the bottom.
To stay within the theme, they could have opted for a proper ghost train and a drop tower as two separate sets.
I will most likely get the set but it is somewhat a shame that Lego always has difficulties to stay within a theme; and Fairground is but a bi-annual theme. The same goes for the Winter Village sets where they are more venturing into fantasy.
Perhaps not only the moniker Creator Expert changed to 18+, but also the label 'Fairground' will change into theme park in the future.

Indeed. And one of the male visitors to the attraction (this guy: https://images.brickset.com/sets/AdditionalImages/10273-1/10273_Side_07.jpg ) looks very much like one of the minifigures in the forthcoming Hidden Side Abandoned Prison set: https://brickset.com/sets/70435-1/Abandoned-Prison-of-Newbury . Apparently, the HS minifigure is based on one of LEGO's designers, so I suppose the Haunted House's one is too.
Have to say - although a beautiful model, the original Haunted House from a few years back is themed much better for a 'spooky' ride.

I like the look of it, but that explanation is just really bad. £210 for 3100 pieces isn't the worst. Some might even say it's good. But then making buyers build a working elevator and then saying "Oh yeah, now you've got to pay £50 for the remote control" seems a little bit criminal.

You don't have to buy the motor, it clearly shows the hand crank.
I like that it combines a haunted house attraction with a free-fall ride. I love all the details and the nostalgia (though to be honest, Adventurers was a dark ages theme fore me). That said, it is quite disappointing that many of the details and the motion of the ride is hidden inside the house. If one is going to display this in their layout, they are likely going to keep the walls closed for a more realistic look. They try to make up for this deficiency with the shutters that open when the elevator reaches the top of the tower, but its still a lot of motion being hidden. Rather than buy this set, I'm going to look through the instructions to figure out the mechanics and build an open-air free-fall ride of my own. A MOC will have the added benefit of having a smaller footprint as well.

Same here. The themes they allude to happened during my dark ages so I haven't got any of the sets nor do I know anything about the lore.
@PurpleDave: when I heard the drop tower rumors I got excited because I thought of something like this:
https://www.goetzke.de/skyfall_goetzke_fotos/
This set is not what I would consider a drop tower, nor does it appear to be a proper Haunted House. I much prefer 10228 for that.
This one is just an overpriced and out of proportion Modular of sorts.

Nice, but in Sand Green would have been soooooo much nicer because that green resembles with the 'spooky' green color used in all the ghost/horror movies. Olive resembles the Parisian Restaurant too much.
@MTBrickHouse:
Motorhomes are a unique category. They may have sections that can slide out or raise up when you park them, but they are still essentially a self-contained structure. This has a multi-story tower, on top of the fact that the base of the building would probably need at least two trailers to accommodate it. The drop tower itself needs to be robust enough to meet amusement park safety standards (not so much of an issue with a motorhome). And if you ever look at real mobile carnival rides, they tend to rely more on paint than anything else for decoration, with lots of very flat, very smooth panels making up the bulk of the design, and lightbulbs generally being the only exception to this.
@AustinPowers:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Twilight_Zone_Tower_of_Terror
This is the ride that everyone is comparing this to. As appears to be the case in this set, the ride carriage is a passenger elevator in a building. "Roller Coaster" is also an ambiguous term. On the one extreme, you can have the giant coasters from places like Cedar Point, which can make the Creator Expert coaster set look dinky by comparison. On the other extreme, LEGOLAND California has their dino-themed coaster that's so small they run you through it twice before stopping you at the boarding platform.
Brilliant! I'm thinking of buying 2 or more of these to make it into a 'haunted museum' style of structure. For example by adding some more substance to the ground level and an extra floor for display.
Seems I'm very much in the minority, but I find it completely underwhelming. Maybe because (despite my 18+ age) I'm really not familiar with the Adventurers theme? Yes, it's a decent-looking structure. But for me, 10228 is a *far* more interesting building, and the lack of monsters in this new set is extremely disappointing.
For a lot less money, I'll be getting the Hidden Side rollercoaster so that my boys and I can MOC a haunted ride (with more than two identical ghost figures).

I was really hyped about this when it first leaked and shortly later was confirmed. I got mine today, but I must say I actually went a little on the fence after seeing Jangbricks review. I was looking forward to the main function regarding the lift, but it really seems to have its issues.. Hmm.. I should practice my patience in the future I guess. The same happened with the Barracuda Bay set. And the Roller Coaster. Still sealed and no plan to open and build it in any near future.
