Helping to bring some nostalgic movie magic into any home or office, each figure in the new set also stands on a base that resembles an old-time film reel, complete with the original character signatures. With Mickey Mouse standing tall at 14 in. (36cm) high and Minnie Mouse at 13 in. (35cm), the pair make a perfect addition to any Disney fan’s LEGO|Disney collection or as a stand-alone display.

As well as making an impressive display piece, the 1,739-piece set is a mini feat of LEGO brick engineering, with LEGO designer Ollie Gregory focused on doing these classic stars of the big screen justice.

Ollie commented: “We always look to design things that people would like to put on their shelf, including my own, which is why we went for the ‘classic’ Mickey Mouse design with the iconic silhouette and colour palette – as a surprise for builders, the characters insides are built from colourful elements inspired by classic outfits worn by the the pair in the past.

"The Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse Buildable Characters are extremely detailed and intricate, and there were lots of challenges to overcome. For example, to create the tips of their noses we even had to bring back the LEGO Classic Space Helmet in black, which hasn’t been seen since 1987.

"LEGO fans will also notice that we have debuted a new colour in this set, 363 – TR. Brown with Opalesence, the first time it is included in any set – so there’s lots to explore with this build!”

You can find more images on the set details page.

Yes, these are what nightmares are made of.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Now this is what I want, better than that train that was reveal earlier. The figures looks amazing and the side builds of the camera, book all look fantastic.

£170 for 1739 pieces isn't bad value, and this would look stunning against my Steamboat Wiilie.

Also seems to be a few interesting part uses and techniques throughout the builds including the use of barrel parts for Mickey's trouser legs

Though not a day one purchase its a set I will definitely get at some point before it retires.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Definitely not interested in this set: it doesn't fit with anything else…

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

And from this point forwards the 15th June shall always be remembered as the anniversary of the birth of "FRANKEN-MICKEY". Once seen, never forgotten.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm not familiar with the subject matter. Is this a new character or something? Just kidding, the subject just doesn't matter to me. It does look like it could be a fun build thought.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Very strange...
Better stick to minifig scale models and we'll go ahead and buy your stuff. I'd love to have Mickey's car or house, similar to the set Steamboat Willie.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It’s not awful, I’m just wondering who the audience is. The scale and proportions are funky, and the price per piece is decent but $180 is so high. I don’t think I’d say that each figure is worth $90, discounting the camera and other tiny builds.

However I do like the use of buckets as Mickey’s shorts, and making the bases look like film reels is an excellent touch. The new pieces in the arms, camera, and eyes also look interesting (also Minnie’s flowers? Definitely look new but maybe I’ve missed them before)

Edit: I didn’t even finish reading the article, bringing back Classic Space helmets?? A new color?? Even making the inner bricks look like classic outfits is an awesome addition. I’ll at least be looking at the instructions, this one might get me after all just on a parts basis

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like them a lot, but they may be too big for me to actually want them. If they were a bit more mouse-sized (or half-sized) I would definitely buy them. Will have to see them first and maybe have a think about it.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

These are clearly meant to be the original characters as opposed to their modern incarnations, and I find myself actually quite drawn to this. But, alas, stickers. I refuse to part with the best part of €200 for a display piece and be required to deal with stickers. It's simply not happening and I for one will keep voting with my wallet.

There are a lot of AFOLs who are also Disney fanatics, who are willing to buy anything with Mickey and Minnie no questions asked.

Other than the book and photos, the decorations don’t look to be stickers. Minnie’s skirt absolutely looks like a print, as do the eyes and base signatures

Gravatar
By in United States,

Seems like there's a brand new curved piece for the corners of the camera!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’m glad it’s not just me that thinks these are terrifying

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Wow, this day has been... eventful.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I don't know if my knowledge of curved pieces is completely out of date but there seems to be a lot of new pieces to me. Have those curved tubes that make their arms and Mickey's right leg been seen before ? And is that a half dish piece with the eyes ?
Also, curved corners on the camera <3

Gravatar
By in United States,

Would much rather have this than the Steamboat Willie set.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

Mickey Minnie & Mouse Mouse

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think the biggest problem for me is the characters are off-model. The head proportions are actually wrong for a standard Mickey silhouette. The ear to head ratio is supposed to be 3:5. These work out to be more like 4:5.

For this to be a better representation, the ears should have been a 6x6 footprint. If they had gone with that size ear, it would have given an amazing excuse to fill the 3x3 round corner tile gap AND made these look quite a bit more palatable.

@benbuildslego - yup, new corner there. Nice little piece.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Freaky

Gravatar
By in United States,

Stickers?!? For $180 I’m sure they could have had printed pieces. Disappointing...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Isn't the white-nose piece hollow from the back? Isn't that going to look odd displayed at any angle besides below?

Also, I guess the new color is featured as the lense of the camera?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I actually REALLY love these!! Probably not a Day 1 purchase, but I’ll definitely be adding them to my collection.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Thanks for the nightmare fuel, Lego.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

They're creepy AF and for 180€? Absolutely no way I'm buying them.

However, if I find them with a nice discount, I might consider it.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Did they really bring back the 1980s space helmet? It looks like the 2019 version to me.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It does make you wonder what focus groups, if any, they test these ideas and designs with.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Sorry. How much? :-0

Gravatar
By in United States,

I try to not be crticial but: they are creepy, something proportionally doesn't look right, and $180?!!! Yikes! And unlike an expensive Technic set, there is no function. It's just static.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Is that corner piece (used on the camera) new? Looks like it might be similar to 6091 but wrapped around a corner...

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

The bodies are terrific but the heads are really off-putting.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I would've bought comic book Donald, but I'm not interested in cartoon Mickey.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The bodies, legs, hands, feet and heads are well done, its just the faces look like they still have the plastic surgery nose bandages on. Maybe when these are removed they may look more cuddly. I understand faces are difficult to do in Lego, but they did such a fantastic rendition of Yodi's face recently, that we have come to expect similar at this price range. Finally, using a sticker on a large disc for the eyes seems a bit 1-dimensional.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nope. Looks interesting, but no. My wallet once again breathes a sigh of relief...

Gravatar
By in United States,

If you look at just the face Mickey sort of looks like Yakko Warner.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Yeeaaah no. Now that the official pics are out I haven't changed my mind. Creepy. Day 1 won't-buy...

Gravatar
By in United States,

This looks kinda cool. However I’m way more focused on getting the DC summer sets and then the Clone Wars season 7 related Star Wars models would I will probably pass on this and maybe try and get it at a later date.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Terrifying. It doesn't help that they are cross-eyed and wearing fake strap-on noses!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Really, really not liking the 18+ boxes at all. So drab and non-LEGO to me. I display sets with boxes and the is a step back.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I appreciate the effort the designer put into this set. But ehm...

I hate to say this, but these barely look like lego. If it wasn't for the ears there would be almost no studs visible, and the limbs and eyes seem to be made with new pieces with very specialized usage. I get that it is difficult to do, but in this case I think more blockiness might have actually given them more charm. It's okay to see the limits of the system in the model. If you just churn out a new part to solve all your problems you take all the fun away from working within the restrictions of the medium.

And once again, the 18+ box design tries to hide the fact that it is a building toy with colourful cartoon characters. Although in this case the white glow behind the models is a bit more pronounced at least (as these models use a lot of black). At least put the lego logo in the top corner. I had to actively look for the lego logo!

An overpriced luxury product for people that wouldn't care if it was lego or not. Idk, that box design and the overly smooth models just suck all the fun out of what this set should have stood for.

On a more positive note:
"as a surprise for builders, the characters insides are built from colourful elements inspired by classic outfits worn by the the pair in the past."
This is one of the greatest ways to sell people on the funky colours in the interior in SNOT-heavy models XD

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

A topless Minnie is kinda weird and the faces/noses freak me out

Gravatar
By in United States,

Which pieces are the new TR. Brown with Opalesence color? I didn't see anything that was obviously trans-brown.

"WTF is that thing they try to pass as guitar? No guitar has a square body, and just one string..."

Actually that's exactly what Mickey's cigar box guitar is supposed to look like, just go ahead and google it ;)

I for one love them, absolutely vintage Mickey Mouse with a twist of the latest incarnations.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

At last the true Mickey Mecha is born... all it needs is a pilot!

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Ok so if Lego is abandoning Creator Expert for 18+ will there just be printed pieces now and we can move away from stickers? It’s hard to tell if pieces in this set are printed - I hope they aren’t stickers!!!

Also wondering why Brickset took so long to share this news? It was out last week on everyone else’s page, was it just not officially announced? I usually come to you for news of new reveals and lately it seems to be a lot of articles on storage solutions.

Let’s have more of this please!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

When I first saw the pictures, it looked like it was the size of Brickheadz.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Is availability date correct? In this price for this "buildable Disney characters", better date would be 1st April...

The eyes are printed, like almost everything else in this set. The only stickers are those used on the book and the 2 "photographs".

It might not look like an actual guitar, but it does look like the guitar the original Mickey Mouse was playing. Including the square body and single string. Example here: https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/What!_No_Mickey_Mouse%3F

A leaked image circulated last week but we decided not to publish it.

If they made Mickey and DONALD, and release them as single sets, they would sell A LOT better

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think they look really nice to be honest.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I quite like them! Wasn't totally sure at first glance but the more I look at them, the more I like them.

Gravatar

*shudder* what are there!?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I have to say I find the new style of blurb TLG writes for its sets is extremely cringey with how insistent it is that a set is like a therapy tool and will improve your lifestyle in every possible way.

I know putting a set together is akin to yoga, but I don't need to be told!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love it, but there's not much at all to do with the set other than display and collect dust.

I'd be interested in Glados / Robotnik... Wow! I just thought that these characters can go together — possible interactions can be quite fun.

Gravatar

This is WAY over priced, and not that nice looking to begin with.

Gravatar

Creepy, but then I’ve always found Mickey Mouse creepy!
Wow, Disney tax too......

Gravatar

Yahhh.... Definite pass for this haha...

Gravatar

They look like a fun build but they're creepy and those ears....I am sure you can make waffles with them.

@Wolfmanone said:
"It does make you wonder what focus groups, if any, they test these ideas and designs with."

Although I personally think this set is interesting... the focus group comment highlights a recent story I heard regarding Mickey's main rival... Bugs Bunny.

Warner Brothers has recently started a Looney Tunes revival on HBO Max. Prior to being green lit the showrunner who was trying to pitch a Looney Tunes revival was struggling to get his idea through to the studio executives who had to sign of on the program. Finally he had an idea, he simply pointed out to them that they had never "focus group tested" the original 1940's Looney Tunes, the style he wanted to emulate in his revival show.

That's right, in decades of focus group testing Warner Bros. had never plopped the original Looney Tunes shorts into a test group. Instead they had spent years of testing "modern reimaginings" (ala SpaceJam, Loonitics Unleashed, the Looney Tunes Show, etc.) and as such they made assumptions of what they thought the fans wanted from those focus groups. They had decided things like the old shorts were to violent and offensive for a modern audience, and felt the need to shove in modern pop culture references to try and keep the characters in their eyes "fresh." But not once, not once in all those years had they actually tested the original 1940's shorts.

Turns out once they did, the original 1940's shorts had a resounding success in their focus group runs. Turns out the violence and offensive content they had worried about for years didn't phase the parents who came from the generation of The Simpsons, South Park, Rick and Morty, and Robot Chicken; and frankly they found the original 1940's shorts more tame than many modern contemporaries. And of course the kid's thought the humor was brilliant, many people in the focus groups thinking they were new cartoons due to the timeless wit and humor. The current revival got greenlit shortly afterwards.

So yeah... TL:DR focus groups when used poorly can create a weird corporate group think that leads to some bad and off base decisions. Although on a good day a focus group can surprisingly reveal just how off base the corporate heads had gotten.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

For all you asking I am the target market for this product, I am a massive Disney fan particularly of Mickey and have countless items of Disney art and collectables throughout my home. I also love Lego, and own many many sets... This set however is a disaster, the faces are way off, the ears are completely in the wrong proportion and those clunky hands! I've seen Disney characters made brilliantly in Lego... These are not. I hope the look better in person.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Honestly, I think these are pretty cute! But not for me, personally. The price is pretty high for what they are and I kinda prefer the mini figure scale sets. Maybe if they split these up so you could get the characters separately for cheaper people would be more interested in it?

Gravatar
By in France,

classic space helmet in black. so that's how they try to convince afols?

Gravatar
By in United States,

What happened to the “Coming June 17” catalog mention? Will we see more new Disney Products on this date? Also press release says “Available from 1st July at LEGO.com” however on the product page on LEGO.com it says “Available for preorder starting 7/1” and “Coming Soon on August 1, 2020” This makes me mad that accurate information isn’t mentioned in the official release. Here is the product page link: https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/mickey-mouse-minnie-mouse-buildable-characters-43179

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Will this open the doors to more franchises characters being brick built and not the constraction?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Stickers. :( I was hoping part of the Adult 18+ was to get rid of stickers...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

MASSIVE Disney fans in our household, and have got every recent Disney set, and lots of the Older sets and Duplo too for our girls, but these are SO ugly and un Mickey-like.
And WAY too much money.

Love Lego, Love Disney, but no thanks.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I can imagine they'll look better in person.

Let's not forget that, on the box art, these predominately black-coloured models are in front of a black backdrop, so there is little contrast.

Gravatar
By in France,

The face/heads are just hideous IMO

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Weird and creepy. It's obviously meant for rich people with bad taste.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Who is going to shell out $180 for this? Not to mention the creepiness. They could have made a $50 version of this, and even then it still probably wouldn't attract many people.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Lots of nice new pieces. I like the stands a lot, and even the figures. But I'll wait for a serious discount, if that will happen.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

This is a great set. Look people what you can do with lego bricks! You can make something completely different than what you usually see.
I really like the design and them being Mickey and Minnie. They are huge too.
Kudos for the designers.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

These are pretty average by themselves, but it’s really time to get a new 18+!background. The colours don’t work at all.

Does anybody want to do a hashtag nomoreblackboxes or something like that?

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Those are creepy. They are 'obviously' Mickey and Minnie based on some major features and colours but to truly represent them...? It looks like they just went for attempt 1. Eww.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think these are horrendous. I'm amazed Lego have sanctioned them...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Just Mickey Mouse at £90 (no camera, minnie etc).

Then I would have bought it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Where are people reading stickers in the press release?

I’m keen for these but less so if it involves me stressing applying stickers.

This is literally the only reason I would even consider getting this set. Swap the noodle limbs for something a bit more flexible, gut the torso structure for a cockpit, plop a Mickey inside, and now you have a Mecha Mickey.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, it was bound to happen. First they make "18+" a theme, and almost immediately afterwards they've got you building ladies' underpants...

@xboxtravis7992:
But they did take away Elmer Fudd's gun.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The camera is great, the scrapbook and photographs are nice touches.

But the main builds are s p o o k y

Gravatar
By in United States,

The tiles with the signatures on them are actually really cool

But stickers though??

Gravatar
By in United States,

I actually do think they look fine as a display piece. I just won't be buying them because I have absolutely no connection to Mickey Mouse. He only represents the vague company of "Disney" to me, which isn't a positive connection. Just my two cents.

You can take the worry out of applying stickers if you use window cleaner to help with their positioning. It’s the method recommended by LEGO. I have tried it and it really helps.
