Storage solutions: Reginaldo

Today, Reginaldo in Brazil shows us his custom-made display cabinet:

Since I was a kid, Lego has enchanted me, whether it's the minifigures or the sets, but at the time I couldn't afford to buy them. Over the years, I grew up, and one day when I was on vacation in the United States, I decided to buy two sets of Lego for my son.

Since then, I started to buy more sets of lego for him, and these started to spread around the house, in the corners of the wardrobe or on top of the bedroom bookcase, and it got dusty.

That was when I realised the need to organise and store them in a place or furniture to preserve them. I decided to make a display cabinet to keep the LEGO and keep them visible to me and the visitors.

I made a display cabinet that included many sets, with sides and glass doors the size of a wardrobe, to facilitate storage and visualisation.

I am a collector of the Lego City Police, although I started with a DC and Marvel set, Star Wars, I chose the Police and some fire sets, among others that I bought when they were at a good price or promotion. Do you know how it is: Lego promotion, how to resist?

The display cabinet was designed and manufactured for my LEGO, my collection and when I buy more LEGO. It is made of wood, with glass on the sides, half in wood and the other half in glass (8mm) on the side walls.

The rear wall of the display cabinet made of wood plate, reinforced on the sides, with sliding glass doors with pulleys, 5 8mm glass shelves so that it would not stay on the heavy shelves, with enough spacing between the beams to place some sets of buildings and buildings and up to 40 cm high, it also has silicone casters on the feet, which can be removed in the living room or inside the apartment.

In addition to lights (white, red, purple, green, yellow) to highlight the LEGO, especially at night. I put two 5m 5050 Pro D'agua RGB Led strip + 16 colour Source + Control, RGB light colour, 12V operating voltage, 110V / 220V voltage (Bivolt) to produce a bright scene and with lots of lighting production.

The first shelf (from top to bottom) made for the minifigures and the Lego Space and Star War, with some other collections that are not Lego, but it was made to put Lego, in time I will put only LEGO on that shelf.

The 2nd and 3rd shelves are for the Lego City Police, I have been buying more LEGO for some time and I built my Lego City in these spaces with sets of roads and added in a personal way, MOC of ports and other details.

On the 4th shelf, I booked for DC and Marvel LEGO, with a Lego train station for the division between DC and Lego.

On the 5th shelf (bottom), I placed the Lego Castle, which occupies half of the silver. For now, this shelf is shared with other collections that, over time, will no longer be inside the display cabinet, as they were made only for Lego.

That was how I chose to store my LEGO in an organised and visible way, remembering that the display cabinet is in a place that does not receive sun, preventing the white pieces from turning yellow, an important condition for the conservation of Lego.

Here's my way of storing Lego sets. Lego is also a hobby for me, hobby, distraction and therapy for me. So I invested in storage in a more visible way. With the display cabinet Keep them closed and clean, I do maintenance to remove the dust that, although well closed, does not stop entering, especially from July to October, when the climate is dry and there is a lot of dust in the air.

Lego display, storage, organisation and exhibition. It is my form of storage.

Glass cabinets are probably the best way to display Lego especially if windows and doors are left open for ventilation leaving dust everywhere. I like the large depth and use of all the vertical space, e.g. flying helicopters etc. especially in multi-purpose rooms with limited floor space. The cabinet also stops everything being thrown into a large plastic bin when clearing up the kids play area, so helps to preserve the individual sets. I can see that once the last bottom corner is taken up with Lego you will need to start making another cabinet.

By in Canada,

It is impressive that you can build a large, glass cabinet for your Lego, and it looks great. Thanks for showing it to us all!

By in Brazil,

Fantastic skills, Reginaldo! Great use of space and plenty of nice features, like the different led light colours. Can't beat glass as the best display solution for our beloved Lego!

Beautiful cabinet!

None of the glass cabinets I see for sale are as deep as this, looks great for a big display.

I love your lights. I'd definitely read articles about how people have added lights to their shelves and displays.

This is more like a display solution more than a storage solution.
