Storage solutions: Patrick

Patrick in Germany shows us his basement LEGO room that's so new the paint is probably still wet...
Since the birth of my son in 2014, I rediscovered my passion for Lego, which I had as a child. My first sets for this one were from The Simpsons. Since the selection was very small, I had to expand my collection area. At that time I discovered my love for the Marvel films and quickly realised that Lego sets also exist for the films.
My collection was initially in 1-2 showcases, which had to find a place in the children's room. Since my collection was steadily growing and the children's room was running out of space, I started planning for my own Lego room.
Since we have a single-family house and it has a cellar with 4 rooms, I had enough space to realise my dream. At that time, the basement was still under construction, except for the power lines and heating, everything else had to be done.
On April 1st, 2020 construction finally started in an 11 square meter room, which had previously served as a workshop. The power lines had to be plastered, walls plastered, screed laid, painting work and carpet laid.
The work was finished on May 3rd, 2020, so all I had to do was clear the showcases and set up all the sets. As showcases I use Ikea Besta in 192x60x38cm and the matching Ikea Glassvik showcase doors in 60x64cm.
For the lighting, I chose the Philips Hue Beiing ceiling light, which can be dimmed by remote control and should convey the look of a Lego brick from the ceiling, as you know it from the Lego Store. This is supplemented by an original Lego neon sign in 40x40cm.
All boxes of the installed sets can be placed on a glass shelf. My instructions are stored in a large 4x2 Lego storage box.
I am proud that I was able to realise this dream!

I see wicked bricks, those really are cool stands.
great job. I am in the process of reconverting my basement room too. I have the floor to lay this weekend and then hopefully the building and displaying can begin again.
You did a wonderful job on that room! It has a very museum-like quality, perhaps because of the vibrant paint colour and those large Ikea shelves. Your sets look so good on those shelves. The Lego sign looks great, too. Congratulations on completing your Lego room and thanks for sharing it with us all!
Very nice. Is 60 cm the BESTA depth? They are not available anymore in that size... :(
I'm looking for such deep showcases...

Me too. Sadly IKEA doesn't appear to sell showcases with proper depth anymore. Most are about 38cm deep at most. Real shame as those deep IKEA showcases were really good value compared to what other showcases of similar size and quality tend to cost.
I use their DETOLF showcases for my Modulars and other stuff of roughly 32x32 baseplate size, but they are no use for large Technik sets or other oversized sets like many Creator Expert or UCS Star Wars ones.
IKEA no longer make deep Billy bookshelves, either...

I think they still have some in stock, I managed to pick up 2 of the 60cm ones at the weekend....they did have to rake in the warehouse for them though so maybe I was just lucky.
OK that's good news. My info is a few years old. Perhaps they are making them again then.
Nice. This is probably one of the more less crowded collection.
Speaking of Ikea, what happened to their collaboration with Lego?

Yeah i wonder if we will get units with lego baseplates on :D
Your LOTR minifig display is awesome and very unique! Where did you find something like that?

I bought the Lord of The Rings display on „www.ebay-kleinanzeigen de. That was once an exhibitor in a lego shop. It is a rarity and hard to come by. From time to time you can also find offers on ebay directly.

They look like the standard 40cm depth Besta towers.

wicked brick has been open for a week ;)
A nice display, but I dont know how people can resist. I have Some Ikea units, some with solid doors hide board games etc but the glass ones show lego. For each of your cubes I would say I have 40 models on display.

You are right - they are not as deep as I thought. But I’m still looking for more depth - 60 cm would be very nice.

Not 100% sure ... I do know they are listed on the website, but like I say they did have to go searching for them when I asked maybe they just do them occasionally.

They still sell Billy bookshelves, at least here in Denmark. If I do remember it correctly, they made a new generation of Billy which is not compatible with the older one.
No offence to the current storage solution being showcased, but am I the only one to think that the storage solutions articles was originally a decent idea that kind of strayed?

Perhaps... but it's still people sharing their LEGO collections- show me more!
Creator expert sets defiently deserve theit own space, yet I think modulars look best when they are stacked side by side on a narrow shelf.
I like the cubes with the doors and glass shelves. Not so much for the mod displays, but for vehicles.. I have a LOT of city vehicles and classic Town sets (and now creator vehicles) which I think would fit fairly well in these..
