VIP Weekend offers announced

Posted by ,

LEGO has announced details of the offers available to VIPs next weekend, 21-22nd November:

  • 40410 Charles Dickens Tribute free with purchases over £150 / $150
  • Buildable 2x4 teal brick free with purchases over £200 / $200
  • Double VIP points

High thresholds, then, but I don't think it'll be difficult to surpass them, given the plethora of large sets released recently, plus 10274 ECTO-1 will be released beforehand, too.

By in United Kingdom,

I really, really wish that the ‘Home Alone’ Ideas set was one of the two new sets, as it goes with the whole Christmas theme so nicely!

Righty-ho, I best set my alarm clock at one minute past midnight on Saturday the 21st...

By in New Zealand,

Hmmm, I might buy the Elf Clubhouse... no out of stock.
Maybe the christmas wreath... no out of stock.

In fact looking through my wishlist. 6 out of stock and one sold out.

Guess I wont be getting my Christmas Lego fix this year.

By in Netherlands,

Sweet gheezzz... Hefty thresholds for such relatively small gifts. I thought BF was all about discounts and bargains. Well, perhaps 10276 is it for me.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Strong thresholds. Maybe time to use my VIP Points. I assume that would still qualify me for the spend?

It would indeed for the gifts, but not for double VIP points. You will only get the double points on the total amount minus VIP points spent.

By in Belgium,

I hope 10274 ECTO-1 will still be in stock on 21 November. I was considering to buy it on day one, but it'd be much better to get a couple GWPs in the process.

By in United Kingdom,

£150 minimum for Charles Dickens is crazy, its usually £`125 I will be waiting for the ice skating set in Dec hopefully that will be a more relatistic GWP price point. In addition to what others have put nothing is in stock online of worth, so will wait till stores reopen as last time they did multiple GWP with purchases to move the stock.

By in United States,

oh boy a giant teal brick !

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Drat, well I'm out. Much though I want the Charles Dickens set, and would cheerfully pay £15-20 for it, I just can't find enough sets that I want and don't already own to justify £150 spend. Bricklink, here I come...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Anyone know how much the qualifying purchase amount was for the red brick last year?

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

2x4 teal brick? tempting....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

well - if I compare my little robots GWP with these two...not cool

It was similar. Here, it’s been CHF 250 last year, but CHF 220 now.

I’m wondering if there will also be some specific sets on sale?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If you spend over £200 do you get both free gifts?

This is the first time I’ve wished a promotional was just offered as a retail set instead.

Are you sure these are the Black Friday offers, seeing as that's not until the 27th?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^ I suspect 40410 will be a GWP over BFCM but not the brick.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I literally just spent $230 there yesterday! Uhg I knew I should have waited...

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Man I just need to hope that it doesn't run out next week.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Those thresholds are crazy high.
I think I'll rather buy the Charles Dickens set from BL later on.

That's what I'd like to know too.
Has anyone some experience to share?

Yes you’ll get both. At least that was the case last year, I got both the brick and the other GWP.

I think that’s a good time to buy 75290 and get both GWPs.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Would have loved the Dickens set, but that threshold is just too high. Scrooge comparisons are apt.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^^greenhorn... you read my mind!

I’ll probably eBay both gifts to equal around a 15% discount on the cantina set.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Fab little set, was getting the ecto 1 so I’m happy to wait a few more days.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

So finally what I’ve been waiting for is coming, so if I spend over £200 will I get both gwp sets or am I going to have to split my orders to get both?
Diagon alley, elf club house, echo 1 and maybe something else what do I do.

Gravatar
By in France,

should have waited to buy the batwing. GWP mini robots looks lame now

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I feel you @jdm; bought the piano 4 weeks ago myself but rather preferred to have this excellent deal.

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

I'd gladly spend £20.99 for 40410 as it's listed on its product page, but I doubt being lucky enough to not pay double the amount on BL.
It would be nice to have those sets as GWP for a limited time, and afterwards make them available like any normal item. But I'm afraid that's not how you get people to spend that little extra money to get the GWPs.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Thank You! It will be either Barracuda Bay + something small, or Sesame Street + Razor Crest for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Been waiting on Mos Eisley for a good freebie -- this is it!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That's a shame. I really wanted the Charles Dickens set, but I've never spent £150 on Lego in one go before, even when I got the Assembly Square Modular. I'll have to think long and hard about whether I can justify it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'd like to see the piece inventory for the Teal Brick. That might just fill out teal needs for a long time.

Corner Garage, here I come.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What would be really cool is if the sets that were Double-VIP points for all of November were QUADRUPLE-Points for this promotion!

Most likely you get both for over 200, that's how it's always worked before.

Mos Eisley sold out online the same day of release, Might be back in stock by Black Friday but I doubt it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The only way they’ll get £200 more out of me this year is if there was a Lego Goat herd with purchase.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would get 75252 but it seems to be perpetually “temporarily out of stock”

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

So, £150 is a steep threshold to hit to get the Dickens GWP free.

Do we know if it will go on sale at £20.99 as per the listing you land on from the VIP email newsletter? Will gladly spend £20 on it, but having already ordered Elf Clubhouse on the last double points weekend I’ll struggle to hit the £150 target.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The trouble I have with LEGO promotions this time of year is that I don't want to spend enough for both the weekend before Black Friday (i.e. next weekend for this promotion, 21-22 Nov.) AND ALSO on Black Friday and Black Friday weekend

But then I also worry that I will miss stuff that is only available certain weekends but not others.

In the past I think I have had less trouble, because the "early weekend" GWP did not appeal to me quite enough - or I bought on an "early weekend" and then just refused to open the wallet on Black Friday. But this year the Dickens GWP looks great, and I have a suspicion the Black Friday / Black Friday weekend promotions will be good too.

Darn you LEGO! I can't just HAND OVER my wallet after all

Gravatar
By in United States,

I agree the thresholds are high, but I wouldn't even complain if this years Christmas sets were available at the same time the Christmas promo came out. I was hoping to score the Elf Clubhouse, wreath, snowball fight, reindeer/snowman set for my wife when the Dicken's promo came out, but currently the Elf Clubhouse is listed as temp out of stock, and the rest say sold out. Possibly the Elf Clubhouse could be back in stock by then, and I could work something out...but not holding out hope on the other sets that are saying "sold out".

It seems bad planning to release the Christmas Promo while all the Christmas sets are out of stock or sold out.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I am not quite sure how to deal with this... I am collecting StarWars only and still need the 75252 in my team, so the thresholds will be no problem and GWP's + double VIP-Points are great arguments to act as soon as possible... But this year I have already bought the 75290, the 75275, most of 2020 new released sets. It is not a matter of money but place to show. Quite difficult to decide ...

I had exactly the same reaction. We always order my son the Winter Village set for his birthday in early December and pick up that year's Christmas themed sets at the same time. Currently, they are all out of stock. I really hope this isn't another holiday tradition that screwed up, we've had too many of those already this year.

I've seen a question on this today on the LEGO pages, and theyve said "promotions are added for the amount you're actually paying", so if you use VIP points you would still have to have your spend after that above the limit for the GWP

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

That threshold is ridiculously high. As much as I wanted the Dickens set, it will be a pass.
Very sad these sets don't get offered as regular sets for sale.
With thresholds this high, the whole essence of 'gift' with purchase kinda disappears.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The thresholds for Christmas GWP's seem to climb massively every few years.
Would be interesting to see a brief article on it tk see if that holds true.
I'm sure £85 was limit not long ago, and less not long before that too.

The red brick from last Black Friday was offered to VIP members this year for a certain number of points - it wasn't a crazy amount of points, either. Might be worth waiting for that teal brick until mid 2021, as TLG has quite a bit of old GWP stuff up on their VIP page that one can use their points to get.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I would have preferred the brick in white, for the classic look. Teal doesn't really do it for me.

Hoping for the Piano to come back into stock with a nice hefty discount for Black Friday.

Otherwise the last Chinese New Year sets (before they retire) and the Elf Club House at double VIP points will do for a Christmas Carol GWP or 2.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Cool GWPs but I'm doubtful the ECTO-1 set will survive the 6 days in stock. I'll be extremely glad to be wrong about this but LEGO's inventory as of late hasn't inspired much confidence.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@wsmit99:
Think of it this way. If you spend $200, you get _both_, as they almost certainly stack. It's kinda like getting them both for a $100 buy per GWP. So, the thresholds are probably set a little higher than they normally would be for that reason.

@colay:
Unless you just can't afford to buy something without using points, never burn points when a points multiplier is in effect. The points you spend will be worth the same amount during double points as they would at any other random time, but if you drop $100 worth of points on this purchase, you'll just spend $100 in cash at a later date when it will only net you $5 worth of points vs the $10 you can earn on double points.

@Acranius:
LEGO.com is a threat to retailers. They're part of the same company that produces everything, so the production division can sell it to the retail division at a lower wholesale rate than normal and undercut the MSRP on the entire product lineup. Typically, the reason manufacturing companies with factory outlets don't do this is because they still sell more product through their retail partners. If they use their advantage to lower prices too often, they can alienate their retail partners, who might stop carrying their product. Losing Walmart would be a huge blow to their bottom line. So, they don't put their products on sale. They offer GWPs, which offer a similar boost to value without affecting MSRP.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@sbpyrat:
I ran into that problem last year, when I waited to buy a keeper copy of the Gingerbread House until Black Friday Preview...and it was sold out for the rest of the year. I almost missed out again this year, but when I found out the Han Solo Carbonite keychain offer was starting two days early, I made a trip to my local LEGO Store after work, and they had three fresh copies of the GH on the shelf. They sold the last one the next morning. I still have to pick up the Elf Clubhouse, but I'm not holding out hope for this year. I just have to remember to pick it up early next year.

@abri123:
I've never been stiffed on GWPs for using points, at a store or online. If the set is discounted, that's a different matter. Some might argue that even though it's marked down to only $80, a $100 MSRP set should still qualify them for GWPs at that level.

Another thing that I've seen is that promos aren't supposed to stack, but they always do.

@sjr60:
I thought it was green the first time I saw the image, which would have made sense for the time of year. I'd have _preferred_ if Dark-Purple did its duty and kicked that Teal to the curb.

By in Germany,

My last orders at Lego Shop were a desaster; the last one has dissappeared 10 days ago and I am waiting for refund until today. Unfortunately the Han Solo Keyring was part of the delivery and I'm afraid they havent got any in stock now. The next Shop is about 100km away so I will wait for ECTO-1 to show up in any trustworthy shop.
