Charles Dickens Tribute

©2020 LEGO Group

This weekend is one of the best times of the year for LEGO VIPs to shop at LEGO.com because three incentives are being offered:

So, now's an ideal time to pick up 10274 Ecto-1 which has just been released, or perhaps one of this year's superb Ideas sets such as 123 Sesame Street, Pirates of Barracuda Bay or the Apollo Saturn V re-release.

So, shop now at LEGO.com via our links and help keep Brickset online, up-to-date and able bring you the best news and reviews in 2021 and beyond by doing so. Thank you!

Best not delay if you're after the teal brick: I suspect supplies are limited and it won't last long.

By in United Kingdom,

Managed to get a brick in uk just now. I had prepped my bag but it didn't add the gwp until I added something after midnight. Sorted now tho.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Order placed for a haunted house and scrooge is inbound. Who would've known the 'Principles of Population's by Thomas Malthus would be the building blocks of a lego set??

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Done! Had a rather nerve-wracking moment when the payment didn't register but fixed now. At least it didn't eat my points this time...

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Nice, ordered the Elf Club House and Sesame Street which just about took me over the €200 threshold for the two GWPs.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Same as above, my bag was prepped and ready to go but no matter how many refreshes - no new gwps.
Then added a new one (and took it away) and low and behold there they were!
PHEW! Thanks Brickset as ever.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Placed my order with no issues :), Also I used promo code EF5NP7WU7R to get a free mystery polybag in addition to the 2 GWPs

Edit: seems when I try to enter the promo code now, it rejects it, maybe because I had it added before midnight.

By in United States,

Is it in-store too, or just online?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Phew. That was almost as stressful as trying to cop Jordans. I only got the Christmas Carol set. Couldn't think of anything else to get me to £200. I would have got the AAT but it was out of stock.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Took the plunge, cashed in my VIP points and went for the Mos Eisley Cantina. Got the brick and Charles Dickens thrown in as well.

Happy days!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Phew!! Managed to get ecto 1 but as others have said, GWP didn’t add until I put in & removed another item, £10 off using vip and possibly Quidco track, then card screen when blank, swapped to Apple Pay, went straight through, very happy, enjoy the deals all!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Got the ECTO-1 without issues as prepped the bag beforehand. As above, if you have issues with GWP adding just add a keyring
and then take it off and it then works fine. Just refreshing the bag didn't seem to work. This year has defo gone more smoothly than previous ones :-)

Gravatar
By in Australia,

This is probably in the T&C but it looks like 'parts' don't count towards the $ total.. grrr
Edit "Bricks & Pieces orders are not valid for this promotion."

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Done ! Got the Batwing and some small City Sets. So automatically there was the Brick and Charles Dickens added. Plus double VIP Points. Worked smooth without a Problem. Very Happy Days !

Gravatar
By in Poland,

It's sucks that there are no special bargains during the VIP weekend, while they will be offered during "normal" black Friday weekend.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Haunted House ordered! Wondering if I shouldchave ordered something else....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Evening all, finally got Pirates but also noticed they have the miniature Gingerbread house for £17.99 in Creator Expert - prob been there a while but in case you wanted to pick it up also.

Gravatar
By in United States,

When you say "starts now", I suppose that is for the UK and parts of Europe, and not the entire world (or the US)?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Gone for the Nintendo NES set to bag the Dickens set & Promo brick. Used my double points from the last VIP weekend to take £15 off. That’s my Christmas present to myself sorted.

I just called the store, she said it's in person too. I wish the haunted house was in stock online so I didn't have to go in person but oh well...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Aimed for both current Chinese New Year sets, but Lion Dance went out of stock instantly. So got Temple Fair + Elf Club House, Safari Offroader and Winter Snowball Fight & 2 GWPs.

Bricks & Pieces never counts toward promotional items. You have to use the Pick A Brick option under Menu --> Shop By --> Bricks --> Pick A Brick.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I got Cantina set. I've just listed the Dickens set on ebay to contribute towards my credit card bill when it comes in next week.

I think Pick a Brick contributes towards the spend. Not as much selection as BnP but arrives much quicker. I always tag on a small PaB order to any Lego order. Most tiles are much cheaper than Bricklink.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Elf Club House, Gingerbread House, Haunted House, 1989 Batmobile, Ecto-1, Christmas Wreath...plus many more Exclusive sets out of stock in Australia. Very poor promotion. Other sets can easily be bought for much cheaper in stores...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m hesitant, mainly because there’s nothing in particular that I want, other than maybe the haunted house, but also because I don’t know what will be on sale next weekend (fingers crossed for hogwarts castle) so not sure if it’ll be worth missing double points

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I got my order in a few minutes after midnight. I had my shopping bag prepared beforehand. Unlike the others commenting, my bag was automatically updated to include both GWPs. That was in the Dutch LEGO shop though, not UK.

Finally goy myself a 10255!

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

I was just about to go to bed, thanks for the warning.
Edit: these offers are for the UK so far, not US.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

"So, now's an ideal time to pick up 10274 Ecto-1"

Yeah, oh boy, wouldnt that be nice. Too bad the Australian warehouse only got about 10* of them so they've long since sold out

The Haunted House just released this year...it probably won’t be on sale next weekend

Gravatar

Typo for Saturn in the blurb.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Even on the U.S. site, everything on my want list is already sold out.

If you're in the US like me, don't place your order until midnight. It won't give you double points and gift with purchase unless you wait until midnight in your current time zone

The holiday calendar had a Black Friday insert but it was just the same Dickens gift as this weekend except no double VIP. That doesn't mean they won't do surprise sales, but they aren't advertising it like they did last year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Y'all are killing me with the sets that are available that I'd love to use for this promo, Mos Eisley, Elf Club House, Haunted House, Wreath, Snowball fight, etc...all out of stock in the US.

I do have an order ready to go, despite the lack of sets I'd prefer to order right now. Fingers crossed to get both promos at least. and double VIP points.

Thanks for the tip that you have to add something after the promo starts, because at least some/most of the time that's not the case. That's usually my sign that a promo has gone live, when there's an extra item in my cart haha

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I would have loved to have bought 10274 Ecto-1 this weekend but it bloody well sold out in about 2 days in Australia.

It's showing as 'sold out' too not' temporarily out of stock'.

Was it a limited run set?

Definitely not limited run. I’ve seen way more situations of sets showing as “sold out” that returned to in stock this year than ever before. Ecto-1 should be back.

Yep, just placed an order and got 2x VIP points and the 2 GWPs.

I think it's available next Friday (11/27)

Gravatar
By in United Arab Emirates,

In Canada, at least, the Han in Carbonite keychain is also added in to Star Wars orders over $150. So that's potentially 3 GWP if you hit the $200 mark.

Gravatar
By in United States,

In the US here. Ordered a Sith art and a few other items to get to $150. Got Dickens and the keychain added.

Gravatar
By in United States,

With the new McLaren Technic set to anticipate, I finally bought the Car Transporter and a Creator set to make it up to $200. Everything went smoothly. If nothing else, I'm stocking up plenty of VIP points to use on Mos Eisley if/when it comes back into stock....

Gravatar

Placed my order for Haunted House just after midnight :-) The website seemed to be struggling a bit, but the order went through OK and I received a confirmation mail this morning.

The Han Solo keychain disappeared from the order detail page and also not in the order confirmation email. Very strange.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Went for Mos Eisley as Ecto-1 and Batwing are on back-order to get a large brick and Chuck.

Also ordered some missing parts for a 75102 I had won on catawiki.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hidden side mystery castle was going in and out of stock in US.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

8:15 in the UK and both still available.
Managed to get mine with Buildable Mickey and Sesame Street.
Yay

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Mos Eisley ordered. Real excited.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Really disappointed that the sets I wanted were sold out so I had to get my second choice sets to get Scrooge but not enough for the second gwp.
Personally I think it is bad policy to have special sales when you are out of stock.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Placed my order just after midnight, with Dickens tribute and teal brick automatically added. Went to bed happy.
Woke this morning to find an email saying that an item had changed to backorder. When I checked my order online the promotional items aren't listed. I thought maybe I could change my order to something that would qualify but it seems not. No longer happy.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Ordered ECTO-1 and an Xtra polybag to get both GWPs at 0:05; ECTO-1 was backordered until Wednesday 25 November, which is not a big deal (since it would not have shipped until Monday 23th anyway). Now the set is backordered until 10 December…

Now I'm hoping on a discount on 10273 Haunted House next weekend, but since it's backordered it's quite unlikely…

Gravatar

"I like the Dickens book, nice idea.. let's see: what I have been holding back on while waiting for an interesting offer?... four advent calendars, that's £90; the wreath's a nice idea- that's another £30; I like the nutcracker and monster bigheads, that's another £20... Not quite enough, need another £10- might as well get another Star Wars advent calendar for myself. That will take me well over the £150... It's a big spend all in one go, but worth it for the gimmick, let's go for it."
"Oh- sold out, sold out, sold out and sold out- I wonder if they'll be back on sale next week?"
Ever feel you were being manipulated?
Back to ebay to see if I can get a cheap-ish Dickens book...

Gravatar

So the thresholds are not £150 and £200 as advertised on their website, but more around £168-ish and £219-ish. I'll pass.

Sorry to contradict you here but this is incorrect. You must have had items in your basket before midnight. The offer kicked in for items added after midnight, as long as you added items over the threshold limit after 12am. I had an order for €206 ready in my basket, but the GWPs only appeared after I added and removed a random set.

I ordered the Corner Garage that is on backorder but I still qualified for the 40410 Dickens Tribute GWP. Looking at my order it appears as SKU: 6301720 with no other detail. LEGO CS is on 01753 495140 if you want to give them a call.

Last year they were announced on each day.

By in Australia,

The teal brick is gone is Australia.
Very unfair to have a sale where you can't really buy anything worthy as they are all unavailable... I saw the Gingerbread house a week or two ago available but wanted to wait for the VIP weekend. Was not a wise decision as it turns out. Now, not only I do not have the GWP but the Gingerbread House either. If they do not keep us hanging, I would have bought it there and then. Just as a 'counter example'...there is currently a sale in a European LEGO certified store chain of 10-40%, including very expensive sets, where they tell you how many of each discounted sets they have left, broken down to stores and they update the list every hour. This is what I call fair. Not what LEGO does... They first run out of the sets (sometimes even before the sale starts) and then of the GWP's. Anyway, $600 more in my pocket, $600 less in Mr LEGO's pocket.
Now... let's go buy some Playmobil.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was having issues because one of the items was "backordered" (the Tributo). Once I replaced that with something in stock, the Dickens set was added.

Gravatar

Thanks for the heads up on that little bus! I added one to my order.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Ordered the Batwing this morning around 8.30 without any problems. Had been sitting in my basket for quite a while; different to others for me the two GWPs were just added without needing to add anything else. In fact, it was a smooth and happy ride, as it should be with an online store :) To my pleasure, I also noticed that you can finally pick a delivery point from the start, instead of getting stuff sent to your home, which then ends up at a delivery point anyways. Seems they might have learnt something w.r.t online shopping...

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

I so wanted the Ecto 1, but as others have said it's sold out in NZ, and I've now been banned from buying anything just to get the Dickens GWP :(

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Since its creation, the site for my country has issues when it comes to confirm your method of payment, so customer service always recommend us to place our orders as "guests". I'm about to order the Diagon Alley set, but because I'm a "guest" and not logged on my VIP account, I don't get the teal brick, just the Dickens set. Has anyone had this problem, too?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

One of my items just went on backorder and Scooge is removed of my orderlist. Wtf. LEGO get your shit together when you're having special sales.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If anyone is a student in the UK you can also get a code for a free mini gingerbread house when you spend £200 if you go onto studentbeans

Gravatar
By in United States,

Unfortunately Mos Eisley is backordered, so no Christmas Carol for me :-(

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

I went to the store directly and got one "Sesame Street" and two "Christmas Wreath 2 in 1" (which is out of stock online for a long time), and they offered me an extra polybag - 30464 (El Fuego's Stunt Cannon)!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Unlike some, I'm pleased to say I had no problems with the GWPs appearing in my bag, having ordered just after midnight. I badly wanted the Dickens set so I picked up the Episode 9 Millennium Falcon with 501st Legion pack on top to get me over £150. Trouble was, this put me £25 or so away from also getting the teal brick (which I didn't really want...but it was just there calling to me) so I was weak and an Iron Man and Ninjago set later I was at over £200.

Everything apart from the small Ninjago set was on back order but at least it wasn't out of stock, plus I had a £50 VIP voucher to use which softened the blow to my wallet a bit. All in all, an expensive success!

I'm interested in a second Baracuda Bay....... Out of stock.
Oh well, more money in my pocket then. Apparently lego doesn't want it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well, I've spent a bit over £150 on two Lego sets that I half wanted, in order to get a free one that I really wanted.

I wondering if this is Lego's strategy going forward - release sets that you aren't too sure about, then knock out a fantastic GWP so that you have to buy them.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I got the Creator Downtown Diner set! Prepped cart night before and made an adjustment to get the freebies added. So tempted to get more! Considered getting the bookshop too but already sold out.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Made a successful Star Wars purchase last night just after midnight. (Surprised to get the Carbonite keychain too!) It went so well that I started talking myself into making a second purchase. But now the Chinese New Year Temple Fair is sold out. Probably for the best.

Wasn't my experience. All I added was the Nintendo NES set at £209.99 and the two promo items went in as expected. And they stayed even after I added £15 worth of VIP codes bringing the total down to less than £200.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Isn’t it strange how we all have such varying experiences. How does it happen?
I’ve read a number of posts above and I think mine has been slightly different again. Although fortunately, at this point at least, a good one.
I had my wish list in place, and just after midnight dumped a Batwing and a Minions brick built lair into the basket. Just over 200 and both the GWP’s went straight into the basket, as hoped. Placed order.
Within 5-10 minutes I received an email notifying of a delay on the Batwing. This was expected as Lego stated it was a back order item. A short time later I got an order confirmation email with all 4 items on. All is good.
However, much to my surprise, just before 1pm today I received another email from Lego notifying me that the Minions lair and both the GWP’s have been despatched for delivery!
Talk about extremes.
I mean that is almost freakily quick.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Placed my order last night when it became midnight EST. None of the big sets I wanted were available so I went with the Hidden Side Castle (which now shows SOLD OUT), HP Quidditch, and a couple of smaller items including the old Easter Bunny Hut to meet the minimum for the Dickens set. Checked the site this morning & Assembly Square came up available for Backorder. Assembly Square was the one item I was hoping would become available during double points so I finally got my wish. Hopefully it doesn't go on sale for Black Friday. So another order has been placed along with a small in stock item to insure I receive my GWP's.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like power functions are getting sold out (medium motor and small battery box) and the infrared receiver is fluctuating between in an out of stock. I didn’t think power functions were slated for retirement but like all Lego if you want it, get it while you can or pay double retail. Treehouse and Chinese new year temple fair are fluctuating between in and out of stock. Teal Brick is going for between $20 and $30 on eBay and Charles dickens set is going for between $60 and $70 on eBay.

Gravatar

By in United States,

Shortly after midnight I spent about $750 on all of the Marvel and DC Super Hero sets, so that netted me a little over 10k points. Both the Charles Dickens set and Teal Brick were in my bag, and only two sets are on backorder, so it worked out nicely.

Well, aside from 66635 and 77905, I haven’t purchased any sets this year so it’s not as extravagant as it may seem. Besides, the Charles Dickens set and double VIP points made waiting worthwhile.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I placed an order for Aston Martin DB5 (on back order) and a Volkswagen Beetle about twenty minutes ago. Both the Charles Dickens set and the teal brick were added to my bag. They were also listed in the confirmation email I received from Lego. However, as with a few other people here, I've found that if I check my order status on the Lego site, the two gift sets appear only as 'SKU: 6301720' and 'SKU: 6346102'. I presume they appear like that for everyone with a qualifying order.

EDIT: I've just had a look at a couple of orders I placed earlier this year, and it seems that all promotional gifts appear in the order status section as SKU followed by a number. So no need for anyone to worry. You'll receive the Charles Dickens set and teal brick.

I've always been extremely impressed with the speed of delivery. On several occasions I've ordered at a few minutes past midnight on a Saturday and had delivery on the Sunday.
