City Advent Calendar - Day 10

Posted by ,

After building our Christmas tree and the presents, it feels like it's time to get back to the main theme of the calendar. The only question - will it be a microbuild or a minifigure?

We have our third character from LEGO Adventures, Freya McCloud, the fire chief. Her torso is amazingly detailed, though is not new to this set. Her dark red jacket is adorned with her badge, and I love the zipper detail. The printing for her shirt is similarly detailed with the white polo shirt with gold bars on the collar. She wears a tan belt with silver buckle. I think my favourite piece is her hair - a vibrant red with a fantastic gold ponytail holder.

While her first expression is smiling, Freya's alternate expression is of determination, which I really like. The printing is just as detailed on the back of her torso, and I like the large flame logo.

Freya's accessory is a badge, and if the theory that each minifigure comes with an accessory that belongs to someone else is true, perhaps this one is for Duke. Regardless, I think this is an excellent minifigure.

I’m starting to think there really is something going on with those incorrect accessories, perhaps they’re doing a secret santa thing? That doesn’t make much sense though, as this calendar is mainly for young children who may still believe Santa Clause exists.

Oh, what’s that? Santa Claus does exist, you say? Of course he does, Totally! Your parents aren’t keeping secrets from you in any way, they would not dare to betray you!

I'll tell this story, because it's the time of the year for it.

I used to work in a toy shop, and in December, we sold "Elf on the Shelf". One day, this kid and his family were in the shop. He looked about twelve-ish, so I didn't think much of it. But he saw the display and exclaimed, "Oh, you've got Elf on the shelf!" And I replied that, yeah, we had been getting asked about them, so the shop owners finally got them in from a supplier.

And the kid just looked at me and said softly, "But ours comes from the north pole..."

At which point, I said, "I need to go" and quickly found someone else to help.

In my defence ... yeah, no, I've got nothing.

By in Netherlands,

That hair looks fantastic! Or should I say fabulous!

Agreed. That hair piece is superb.

The hair piece reminds me of Sigourney Weaver's hair from the Ghostbusters reboot.

@mr_Fikou :
*sigh*

@Mister_Jonny :
Funny, it reminds me an awful lot of Barbara Gordon from TLBM...almost like they created that hairstyle and gave her that exact same color scheme for at least one minifig.

I don't see a problem. People would still give each other gifts, even if Santa were real. And this is a Lego City Advent Calendar, so in-universe, he is.

As someone that works in a toy shop I can understand this.

"Yes, we get them, and then when you take them home they become magical and can't return here, so they have to live up in the north pole with the other magical creatures"

My partner, at the time, gave me some grief about that incident.

I just think there's an inherent risk, in taking young children shopping at Christmas time, because you're going to see things that will cause the masquerade to fail, you know? Like, even if I hadn't said anything -- even if I hadn't been working, that day -- the shop wasn't hiding the "Elf on the Shelf" sets, they were there in a big display next to the front counter. And kids are cluey. He probably would've been like, "Hang on..." on his own anyway.

At least, that's what I keep telling myself.

Interesting twist to have the minifigs come with the gifts they’re giving to others. Guess it’s a kind of “got to open all the doors” sort of thing?

Yeah, if you get halfway through the calendar and decide to return it, you’ll screw everything up forever.

Fire Chiefs also have badges, so I don't think this counts as an "incorrect" accessory.

But the Fire Chief has her own badge printed on her uniform! She must be holding Duke's, which doesn't look like her own anyway. Odd sort of present, though. The others are much more practical (though I'm still wondering about the dynamite).

@uwfan893:
Compare the badge in her hand with the badge on the mini police station, and again with the badge on her jacket (and the emblem on the back of the jacket). The one in her hand has a star and is an entirely different shape than the one on her jacket that has a flame design. The one on the police station, however, matches it perfectly.

Yep, it's largely this figure and the brilliant hairpiece that made me go with the City calendar this year. Although the other figs have great hair too!

And yes, that's a LEGO Police Badge, not a Fire Badge.
