Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 11

Posted by ,

Two prominent characters from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker have emerged within the last two days, hence I am anticipating another mini vehicle today.

Find out after the break...

Three different versions of the Millennium Falcon have appeared in previous Star Wars Advent Calendars but this model is undoubtedly the best. Its proportions appear far more accurate than other designs and the dark tan highlights seem effective in my opinion, recreating the weathered exterior of the Millennium Falcon. Moreover, I appreciate the rounded shape across the fuselage.

Subtler details are also present, including the circular rectenna and a 1x2 plate with click hinge which forms the dorsal quad laser cannon. The cockpit and port docking ring both look fantastic too, despite their tiny scale, while a trans-light blue 1x2 tile forms the engine. Other models have incorporated similar features but never before with such accuracy to the source material.

Overall - 5.0 - This is comfortably my favourite Advent Calendar depiction of the Millennium Falcon and is probably my favourite model from the 2020 calendar so far!

Personally, I think it’s a bit too flat but a nice build.

It does feel rather flat, but I think they've captured the details rather well.

It was a bit tough to build for me, because they couldn’t show everything on the little instructions.

Based on early reviews, I expected it to seem too flat, but once I built it, I quite like it! I agree with @CapnRex101’s praise.

This is another great model from this advent calendar; it feels like every one of them is the best microscale rendition of its subject yet. I think this demonstrates how many excellent small parts have been released recently; the designers have so many great new techniques to play with!

This is as great as knowing there are gonna be multiple SW shows on Disney +.

By in Norway,

I imagine raising the middle section with a 3x3 plate and adding some cheese slopes on the sides could look good. A very nice model at any rate!

By in United States,

The bracket holding the cockpit looks a bit unfinished. Thinking a 1 x 1 cheese may clean that up a bit. I may try it later. I'm not super keen on how fragile the 1 x 2 tile is on the back but I suppose it works well enough.

Edit: Ha! looks like I'm not the only one with that thought.

I was disappointed when I opened the door, but actually building it, I was pleasantly surprised at how good he model actually is. And I don't usually like mini models

I don't understand how that click hinge fits. It clearly looks like a 1x1 piece in the photo.

The stud in front of the hinge is part of the piece. I thought the same at first but you don’t see the crack between the hinge and the front stud

By in United States,

I found that using one of the spare studs that came with the build was enough to fill that 'unfinished look' to the rear of the cockpit. Overall, the build has a decent look to it, but certainly feels fragile in several places given the significant number of single-stud attachments for rather weighty sections of the ship.
Not sure if I would give it 5.0, but I certainly appreciated that it has been the most intricate build so far ...just wish that I'd had my morning coffee before trying to decipher those instructions! ;)

Ha! The "most complex" build yet so far! Enjoyed this little build. While a few extra parts would have really made this better, it was an improvement over the previous years' MFs. I give it a 4.5

"I think I prefer the 2017 one. The cockpit doesn't feel right on this one, and I like the use of the cone piece on earlier models. It is a close thing though. Putting a cheese slope on the 1x1 bracket might help shape the back of cockpit a bit more."

I added an extra grey cheese slope behind the cockpit and it looks better

Swap the round tile for a round plate to vastly improve the cockpit. Right now it looks like they smashed the cockpit into a brick wall when parking. Cones have too much taper. The fez is actually the most accurate shape, but a bit too large for this scale.

Same here. The hardest build so far, in my opinion.

Definitely the most swooshable Falcon model!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The exposed studs all over the model are bothering me. I like the general design, but it feels like it could use some slopes or a disc to hide all the exposure.

By in Ireland,

This is an outstanding effort I must say. While the build was somewhat challenging I thoroughly enjoyed it. My complements to the designer.

The instructions were a bit terrible... but overall, well done LEGO.

Now that I have 75192 and will be ready to build it after Christmas, this comment has inspired me to attempt swooshing it once finished. If I don't develop a hernia from the physical stress or destroy a particularly important piece of furniture, I think I shall deem it a successful experiment.

By in Australia,

Great review as always Cap'n. I respectfully disagree, the X-wing is my favourite so far, nonetheless, this is already the greatest collection of vehicles and, if the photos on the box prove accurate, the greatest Star Wars advent calendar in the galaxy of all time!

Having seen, and held 75192, I feel like those outcomes are a distinct possibility if one attempts to swoosh it , so I wish you luck with the adventure!

@1947andallthat:
I’d amend that to include dropping it, particularly on bare feet.

By in Germany,

Suggested improvement: Replace the bracket with the spare light grey "frying pan" (part 32828) from the Razor Crest. (cockpit goes on the bar end of the piece)

It makes the build slicker, and you get a better docking ring to boot.
