Star Wars Advent Calendar - Day 20

Posted by ,

The apparently inexorable, but welcome, Hoth tradition continued yesterday with an adorable Tauntaun. Presumably another complementary item will emerge on day twenty.

Let's open the door and find out...

This rendition of the shield generator which protects Echo Base from orbital bombardment is absolutely tiny. Nevertheless, the model corresponds with its source material and includes the correct number of generator modules, unlike a certain previous design! They are arranged with snow packed around them, closely resembling the onscreen location.

I love the uneven shape of the snow around the shield generator, combining both standard and curved slopes. The medium blue 1x2 plate fixed between the two central modules is intended to represent ice and I appreciate that attempt to capture Hoth's inhospitable environment. However, the colour stands out too much in my opinion, despite this element being somewhat hidden.

Overall - 4.0 - The designer has captured superb detail given the limited scale, although I dislike the medium blue plate.

I think 4 is a bit generous, it's not exactly screaming play value.

My advent calendar micro Echo Base continues to grow.

I thought the blue part was the hot tub, where you can bask in the radiative glow of those giant heat dissipation fins. And, you know, die instantly of hypothermia the instant you step out of the water to dry off...

I call this piece of art "Bike rack in the snow"

To quote Lando Calrissian "Hello, what have we here?” I was only half way through building this when it did dawned it on me what exactly it was I was building!!! I am very slow on the uptake these days!!!

4 makes it a true UCS!

By in United Kingdom,

Would’ve been more effective to use a 1x2 trans blue piece to represent ice

Still better than the one in the UCS hoth

A true work of art!

Probably the most boring thing to come out of the calender visually. The sideways build was sort of interesting at least

By in United Kingdom,

I replaced the blue piece with grey and white spares left over from the previous days.

Build number 3 that is not on the cover.

My final judgement of this is contingent on one condition......

If there is a micro AT-AT build coming, then this makes sense, and I give it a 3.5

In the absence of any AT-AT, this really does not add much, and it is a 2.0, possibly the most boring build in the whole calendar

"Hot take: the battle droid was more interesting than this."

I honestly would have preferred another battle droid.
