GWP with CTF sets?

Posted by ,

LEGO has uploaded a video to YouTube which has revealed two gift with purchase (GWP) items that will be available when buying the 2021 Chinese Traditional Festival (CTF) sets.

This pagoda and lantern will be free when you buy both. Unfortunately, the video does not make it clear in which regions the offer will be available, or when, but I suspect it won't be Europe or North America.

Thanks to spicypig for the news.

Would be nice to get them also!

Not a big loss if we don’t get them

By in Switzerland,

I'm still waiting for news about the 40448 GWP. Would be nice to get this with the 80107 Spring Lantern Festival.

By in Germany,

If it's an asia exclusive than they will break their promise of NO regional exclusives

Darn, I’d actually like to get these if possible.

By in Sweden,

How much would be the approximate value of this gwp? Seems a bit steep that you gave to get both the sets to get it

If its only going to be available in Asia why put the writing in English.

@dawid:
I don’t remember that promise extending to GWPs. It’s just retail sets, as far as I can recall, and these two sets are not regional exclusives. Even polybags don’t seem to be affected by that policy, as availability for those is generally hard to nail down, but UK newspaper promotions seem to turn up a few that are hard to locate in the rest of the world. Foil bags also seem to have very limited availability due to being restricted to the markets where the accompanying magazine is published.

UK hasn't had a newspaper promo polybag in years!
We do seem to get some lego kids magazines with minifigures- but they are rarely anything unique

Oh well, given that I only intend getting one of the sets, I guess I'll miss out. They don't look anything special anyway.

"Wow. LNY GWP with CTF."

Uh, what?

@Boettner_Builds, I don’t mean to put words in CCC’s mouth but I think he meant:
‘Wow! Lunar New Year Gifts With Purchase with Chinese Traditional Festival sets.’

Hope that helps.

LEGO is a company, they are not your friend, they didn't promise you anything."

And even if they did you know you can't believe them.
Remember the supposed year full of awesome privileges that were to come with the black MF VIP card? ;-)

I'm assuming it's probably not for the US (just yet anyway) because the release dates on LEGO's website differs for both sets. The festival releases 1/1/21 and the Story of Nian is 1/10/21. It's not a real breaker for me, though.

In China we will get a different GWP. Way nicer, can send a picture if wanted...

The pagoda and lantern are available as gwp in Singapore (maybe other places also). The new sets are not released until 4th Jan here so have to wait and see. The other gwp options (year of the ox and the convertible) are specifically excluded from being available with the CNY sets!

@Igloo:
Technically, per LEGO Brand Retail boilerplate that is attached to any of these promos, you are only allowed to qualify for _one_ promotion per purchase, unless you maybe independently qualify for two promos on the same purchase (buy a $100 non-CTF set that gets you the car, plus the two CTF sets to get the CTF promos). In practice, this rule is almost never applied that I've seen. Not only are GWPs famous for stacking, but if you buy on LEGO.com in the US (and probably Canada as well), you can take advantage of time zones and sometimes qualify for GWPs that are just coming online for the Eastern time zone, and pick up any open GWPs that are still available for the more westerly time zones. I can't really remember for sure, but I think my record was being able to nab 4-5 GWPs on a single purchase. Most countries don't get to do this because they're too small to cross time zones. China is big enough, but the entire country runs on Beijing time so it wouldn't work there either. I'm not sure about Russia.
