Medieval Blacksmith

©2021 LEGO Group

The highly anticipated 33rd LEGO Ideas set, 21325 Medieval Blacksmith, is now available at LEGO.com in the UK and Europe. It'll be available in the USA in a few hours, at midnight EST (05:00 GMT).

If you haven't already done so, check out our review of this masterpiece, then place your order at LEGO.com.

LEGO's mailshot claims it's 'limited editon' which is probably just marketing hyperbole, but nevertheless it's probably best to order ASAP to avoid disappointment or a lengthy delay.

Furthermore, 40417 Year of the Ox is free with purchases over £85/€85/$85, from the 1st to the 14th February, or while stocks last.

Buy now at LEGO.com »

#Ad: Brickset will receive a small commission from orders placed via the links in this article.

Lego have claimed the set is ‘Limited Stock’ so is that suggesting when it’s sold out it’s gone and retired or are they expecting to keep up production?

When you see this for 150 right beside Barracuda Bay for 200, something feels off

It's only just been released, I highly doubt it'll retire soon. Probably just the pandemic causing disruptions in production, so they've only got a limited stock of it.

Have they ever done only one production run of an Ideas set?

That line in the email was surely to let people know that stock is limited, just like everything else on the site that’s currently sold out or backordered. Now people can’t act like they weren’t warned when it goes out of stock. It will definitely get another run

Both are below 10 cents per piece so I don’t really see what the problem is

Just that Barracuda Bay is either extremely cheap or this is just a little on the pricy side

I think it's that o photographs, BB looks big with the sails and sea base around it, while this one looks small due the the reduced base plate and the fact that the roof is huge relative to the building under it - making it look small in relation.

having it in front of you will reveal the size and complexity of it.

How long should I wait for my VIP account to recognize the points that should have been earned from the order that arrived 2 days ago? I was intending to throw them at the MB, even if later in March.

VIP points are supposed to be credited to your account as soon as an item is shipped. You might want to contact TLG to check on that.

By in Canada,

It’s funny Lego sent an email to me promoting this set as “A new classic, forged by the fans”.

This final product feels nothing like the original submission. Certainly far from a new classic. We haven’t had a good Castle themed set since 2010’s King’s Castle

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

It will be available in Europe soon. Germany €149,99 and The Netherlands €169,99. LEGO pricing works in mysterious ways.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

150 Euros for a mere blacksmith shop. No castle, no real troops, no nothing. That is not doing it for me. If I would want a MOC I do it by myself. But yes, who feels the need to buy it, should buy it. I can relate to it.

@fakespacesquid:
Early on, they absolutely did have blink-and-you'll-miss-them releases, under the Cuusoo name. I never once saw the Mars rover in stores or available online. By the time I even heard it had been released, it was sold out. Exo-Suit and Research Institute were also both intended to be limited runs, but they had such high demand for Exo-Suit that they actually announced they were going to do another production run, while Research Institute was an incredibly tough set to find for Christmas that year. Normally LEGO Stores are only restricted from holding sets on day of release, but I happened to make a trip to my local store the Saturday before Thanksgiving (had to pick up Santa suits for a display we were setting up), and they'd just got an unexpected shipment in that they still weren't allowed to put on hold (I ended up picking up a copy for another LUG member who was extremely disappointed to have missed out because she's a chemistry teacher).

With the DeLorean (released before the Mars rover) and Ecto-1 (released before Exo-Suit/Research Institute) still going strong, and three high-profile IP-based Ideas sets on the horizon, they relented to pressure from the fan community and started keeping the non-IP Ideas sets in production longer, so that anyone who really wanted a copy (and could afford it) had no excuse for not picking one up. Ironically, this only started with The Birds and Marble Maze, two sets that were significantly larger than anything that had come before, and had been priced out of range for a lot of Cuusoo/Ideas fans. Still, it was an important change, and they haven't backed off from it. By now they've probably figured out how to use early sales data to better gauge how long to keep a set in production, and how many copies to produce before retiring it (certainly they can't do as bad as basically slapping "Coming Soon" and "Retiring Soon" labels on the same set before you have a chance to find out if more than 10,000 people would even be interested in buying it).

When the Baba Yaga project goes up for review, they may have to start factoring in how long it takes to hit 10k, both during review, and during production.

I have experienced that items on backorder at the moment I ordered them did not receive the proper VIP points once they shipped so the VIP system is not bulletproof in this regard either. It can therefore pay off to be on your toes in making sure you actually receive the points you are owed.

I’ve had the same, but Lego coughed up the missing points as soon as I contacted them. They also gave me an extra 1600 points for the slow deliveries since the 1st of Jan!

Ah! I see now, my mistake! It was a long sentence, and I was too taken aback by that bit I quoted to get that I must have skimmed the rest and missed the full context. Mia Culpa.

By in United States,

@The_Cellarer:
I've never paid much attention before, other than noting that, under the old system, when I placed three orders in quick succession, the points from the first order would be posted by the time I was getting ready to pay for the third, but the points from the second would not post until I'd placed the third order. Since you can't pay with point at checkout, I haven't noticed if that's still the case. With the new points system, it's also a lot harder to look at a list of points awarded and determine if you got everything.

@Dare_Wreck:
Somewhere in the area, there's a kid who had the misfortune of being named "Mia Kulpa". I spotted that name scrolling past in a list of kids who had birthdays in January. You have to wonder how much she's going to spend on therapy in her lifetime...

I had gotten a "Sorry, your order was sold out" email saying that it wouldn't ship till Feb 5, but they accidentally put the package in the teleporter so it arrived Jan 29. I used LEGO's contact email thing, but there's a 10 day backlog.

At least I got 15 points for doing the space survey. *shrug*

By in Australia,

I like this set but $250 AU? No! Pirates of Barracuda Bay was only $50 more and yet was far more substantial and had way more stuff you could do. Compare this to a modular building, most of my modulars were around that $250 AU price for example Bookstore. Compare this to Bookstore or Parisian Restaurant, not seeing value here...

Il have to wait until Myer or David Jones gets it (hopefully) and it goes on sale which is bloody annoying!

I wouldn’t say scaremongering so much as making sure people know there isn’t a huge stock right away. After all, many people on here have complained that they have such little stock for sets they know will be popular. So I feel this is there way of saying “here, happy?” But of course we aren’t, because there’s no pleasing us.

I will be very happy to own both sets :D

I had email confirmation that I ordered on the 1st, got neither of the free gifts, despite spending required amount even though I used vip points earned from numerous complaints. Order now in warehouse, though I won't rest easy until its shipped, as I've had that before with the spring lantern festival and lego cancelled it.

Sent yet another email off to customer service about it. Have to hope the SLF comes back so I can get the free gifts with that if I don't get them after yet another complaint.

I had a really weird experience today with GWPs. I backordered the Burrow to qualify for MBoM, and tacked something on to the order to get it to ship right away. The Vintage Car GWP had just sold out in the previous hour, so it didn't even get added to my cart. I just got notified that my Burrow had shipped, but when I checked my order status, it showed that part of my order was still backordered. Turns out the Vintage Car actually got added to my order after all. I highly doubt they'll be producing more, so I don't expect them to fulfill this, but maybe I can get them to throw me a different GWP instead.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ordered one successfully and got the Ox GWP. I noticed the Blacksmith was already available a little before midnight (9pm Pacific where I am) and it was putting the police boat in my cart for the GWP. I just waited until it officially turned to 9pm and it then had the Ox and Valentine box in my cart.

Gravatar

It felt kind of strange to place an order on day 1 without any errors. I hope this becomes the norm. :)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Order, placed, completely hassle free. That is 2 new releases in a row without website issues. Finally!!!

Also, the Harry Potter GWP is once again available in Canada. So with an $85 HP purchase, you get 3 GWPs; The Book, the Friends Flower Box, and the Year of the OX.

I ordered the Blacksmith a few minutes after midnight (9pm Pacific for me locally), both the Ox and Flower GWP sets were automatically added to the cart and appeared on the final order confirmation page, as expected. But then, 45 minutes later, the confirmation email arrived missing the Flower set. The order status page also now just shows the Blacksmith and Ox, but not the Flower set.

Search for the item number - I found it that way and ordered (on UK site at least)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It was on UK site this morning but there was an issue. Firstly search results wise it was harder to find than it should have been, "Easter" didn't work but "Bunny" did. The product page itself also didn't have any images. CS confirmed the image issue (contacted regarding the Ox missing at checkout) so maybe they've taken it down to resolve it.

Gravatar

I always wanted the 3739: Blacksmith Shop and was never able to find it at a reasonable price.

I wasn't clear with message. It was on UK site but disappeared sometime this morning. The CS rep I spoke to managed to reproduce the product page image issue and was going to forward to someone to resolve it.

A quick google finds this (https://www.lego.com/en-ae/product/easter-bunny-40463) which is similar to what was displaying for me. No images, just item details specification. We had a buy button though. Interestingly, even the page/tab title is displayed as "Easter Bunny 40463 | UNKNOWN |"

"I ordered the Blacksmith a few minutes after midnight (9pm Pacific for me locally), both the Ox and Flower GWP sets were automatically added to the cart and appeared on the final order confirmation page, as expected. But then, 45 minutes later, the confirmation email arrived missing the Flower set. The order status page also now just shows the Blacksmith and Ox, but not the Flower set."
I’m in the same boat. Would be a bit of a bummer if they ran out of those and we don’t end up receiving it :(

Same problem as well. Hoping they fix their error. Still amazes me a company of this caliber has these kinds of issues over and over again

Same situation for me in Canada -placed order a few minutes after midnight (now no flower set showing) ahhh welll. Time to wait and see..."

For anyone having this same issue, I just got off the phone with Customer service about the missing Chocolate box and flower. Total call time was 15 minutes and the issue is now resolved!
