Hey guys, I think I saw some PoP sets in TRU Saturday, but it may have just been Indiana Jones, I was in/out quickly.

these are pretty cool, but outrageosly priced, well maybe not for the desert attack but for the others. ostrich race is the worst price, like i am actualy going to pay 20.00 bucks for that?! (actually i probably am for the muscle body and
for the ostaches, but thats beside the piont) lego knows that we'll pay 20 bucks for that, even though its only worth like 10 or 15 bucks, whick gets me mad as lego in the old days didn't try to squeeze money out of your pockets, like those old pirate sets, a shark, monkey, parrot, and wooden leg for only 3.49? (maybe it was 9.99) now the only way to get a shark is to pay 100 bucks for the pirate ship (well thats soon to be gone)

I got the April 2010 LEGO Catalog and saw the PoP sets. It's weird that LEGO changed "assassin" to "hassansin". I know why they changed the name, though: putting "assassin" would ruin their "kid-friendly" reputation I guess.

Bought three of the five sets today. I also spoke with some Lego reps today and it seems like Toys R Us won' be selling the sets any earlier, even though the sets are out now to buy through Lego.com. so if you wanna buy then at Toys R Us, you gotta wait till the first of April....but I'm not that patient :)

I agree with you completely, itsaturkey. These sets are well designed and fill my need for some Arabian figures and structures, but there's simply no way I can afford these prices for what I'm getting. Looks like I'll have to wait until Toys r Us has more "Buy One, Get One 50% Off" sales before I start collecting the PoP sets.

Dang, the set with the WarGreymon claws is only 11 bucks. That would've made the ostrich set perfect.

They are all so fantastic, earlier released yes. I'm in a predicament myself, as in Ostrich Race the Prince has his normal face and a no shirt while in the Desert Attack he has his shirt but with a mad face. I really want the normal face with the shirt on but theyr'e sets apart what should I do? And also, the Ostrich, is it a new mold? A new animal? But still fantastic! The minisite on LEGO.com is up and running too!

@legofanatic2414: actually, the princes normal face and mad face are the same piece, it's a reversible head. btw, does anyone know what the random black brick in desert attack is for? is Dastan (the prince) supposed to jump over it?

P.S: I also finished the PoP Video Game by Ubisoft, and I have to tell you guys, the movie is not very accurate. Here is just some things to point out. When the Sands of Time are released, EVERY living thing turn into sand People/Creatures. And the prince (Not named in the game) is trying to get to the hour glass, and try to reverse it. There is also tones more, but I'll only tell if anyone wants to know.

I stopped by the LEGO store in Dallas, TX yesterday. No PoP there yet. Sales rep said they would not be in until after April 1.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but whenever I click on an image next to a news article, it enlargens, which is fine, but I can't seem to find how I make it smaller again. Is there a way around this?

@StarWarsManiac- They are in fact called Hassassins because that is the real name for them in Arabia and that area of the world where they originated, this is because they used to take a drug called Hassish before murdering the person, as it meant that they would not remember their terrible deed.

Anyway, now that I have finished ranting, we can all get excited about new Lego!!!

Oh, one final thing, slightly of topic, but I have recieved the UK edition of the Lego Club magazine and it contains a lot of info on upcoming sets (including an advert for the new minifigure collection!)

i think the only set i can get is the aumbush set as it has some good peices and armor, but even the aumush set has no real peices, i mean, is that sand hill supposed to be the ''super secret lair''? cuz if it, thats a BIG dissapointment.as for the PoP catsle, thats really bad, its a wall, with a tower. the only way you could make it awesome is buy 2 then put them back to back, and still thats pretty bad. I could build a better castle then that, and i have,and i'm a kid. the temple dagger escape one is a replica of the indy set ,''temple escape'' beside the fact that temple escape had a bi-plane and was cheaper and was way cooler. all i'm saying is the the new PoP sets are REALLY bad for what you pay and what you get these were my price estimates.

Desert Ambush: It comes with four minifigs. Period. It really can't be less than ten, especially with a horse. (yes the skeleton counts as a fig)
Ostrich Race: 3 figs, a little low for $20, but with two Ostriches (which yes, are new) you can't expect it to be much less. Plus Lego rarely prices anything but battle packs and Bionicles/Bem 10) at $15
Fight for the Dagger: "the temple dagger escape one is a replica of the indy set ,Temple Escape" idk which set your talking about, but NONE of the PoP sets resemble in any way that Indy set.. plus it's well worth $30. (Four figs, a nice large tower that could be $15 by itself, a camel, and a market stall/cart with about 7 food pieces)
Quest Against Time: this does seem a bit overpriced, but it couldn't be less than $40..
Battle of Alamut: "a wall and a tower" is NOT NEAR a decent description for this set. It comes with a PALACE, not a tower and the wall has enough playability features to make it plenty cool. and seven figs loses you the argument pretty quick. it could be $70, MAYBE 60.

If you honestly think you ould build a 'Castle' better than this then go ahead and be content with that, you don't HAVE to buy this..

These are really reasonably riced; look at The Battle Of Alamut! The Quest Against Time is also pretty good.

@JaseTJ: I have to disagree with your pricing of the "Quest Against Time".
The average Lego set is 10 cents per piece, and that set has 506, which should bring the price to $50.60. Add in all the play features it has, and the figs, and it's well-worth the $50.

I visited my TRU last night and was happy to find an endcap with each of these sets. I couldn't decide which to get, though. I definitely wanted an ostrich and a camel and the battlepack is awesome. So I bought everything but the palace and "Time/Saw/Lightup" cave thingy. :o)

JaseTJ- okay my prices were a little low, but i still think lego made some of the prices a little too high, and the the battle of almut onlya little bit more then just a ''wall and a tower". i wrote that reveiw when i had just seen the prices for the sets which were, in my opinion, too high. excpessally (expecilly? i've never been able to spell that word) since the world is in an economic crisis and people dont have as much money to spend on legos, then lego raise their prices? i just doesnet make sence. i have to admit you beat me at an argument (which i have never been good at)
but i still think 80.00 is WAY TOO much for that ''detailed wall and small palace) they could have made the palace better, maybe 3 stories or a courtyard, and that is all i'm saying. they should've had a little bit more, and a little less money.

@itsaturkey I think I understand where you're coming from. So don't get discouraged thinking you've been beat at an argument. It seems to me you just have a different perspective.

One can think about the set as a package deal without looking at the individual parts that make the set. "The whole is greater than the sum of the parts" So price per piece is not the whole story. For example the 2005 Police Station and the 2008 Police Headquarters are pretty similar sets: both have a 3 story police building, jail area, vehicles, cops, and bad guys. There are differences, but let's assume you find the overall experience equivalent. Now, if you look at these sets as a package deal, the 2005 set is a better value at $70, $20 cheaper than the 2008 set. However, if you look at price per piece, the 2008 set is a better value at 9.4 cpp, 2.5 cpp cheaper than the 2005 set. And what if you think one of the sets is better designed than the other? Then it's a whole different equation.

So back to PoP, if you're not that impressed with the set designs, then they'll seem expensive to you. However, each additional brick costs more money to produce. So based on the number of bricks LEGO is putting in these sets and that it is a licensed theme, the pricing is about right. LEGO doesn't really appear to be overcharging.

Personally, I'll definitely be getting some of these sets. Gotta have the ostriches! But I'll wait until the end of April for the double VIP points to kick in.

What's the sand coloured thing in Desert Attack meant to be; it looks a bit odd. I'll probably buy it though, along with Fight for the Dagger and, my favourite, Ostrich race.
My estimates for prices in the U.K. are:
- Desert Attack £9.99
-Ostrich race £19.99
-Fight for the dagger £29.99
-Quest againt time £49.99
-Battle of Almut £69.99

IMHO, the prices for all of the sets (except the largest one), are way overpriced. I mean, the cheapest one is $11, with merely 57 pieces! Thats terrible! I might get one of them, but I'd rather spend my money on other themes than waste it on PoP.

I think that the prices for the PoP sets are pretty well priced. There are lots of new and rare pieces, and it is just plain neat. I want to get Ostrich Races and Fight for the Dagger.

OK, Ok enough with all these prices just get it or not. That simple.

These "battlepacks" lately have been fantastic...PoP, Snowies, Snow Rebels, Yavin Rebels, Army Men, Indy in Cairo, etc....I'm going to go broke :o)

Yes! I picked up Ostrich Race and Desert Attack a few hours ago at my local TRU! They are awesome, and you get a third claw weapon as an extra with Desert Attack.

I had thought I would not be tempted by these sets since I have not even seen the movie with which they are associated, but I think these sets, especially the figures, accessories, and new animals, are almost irresistible! I can't wait to buy one or maybe even two of them! Lego is really outdoing itself this year.... This might be good, since there are so many great sets to add to one's collection and they are making Lego history, but on the other hand, I don't think it's great for my bank account!

I don't care if the movie is horrible, the parts value in these sets, in my opinion at least, makes at least the 3 cheapest ones worth the money.

The White head wrap in Fight for the Dagger screams "Map room Indy" at the top of its lungs, the sword "holster" on the Dastan fig's back is neat, The weapons, headwraps and accessories of the hassansin figs are really neat and could make great generic desert bandits, there are two faces in the theme that look a lot like Sallah from Last Crusade and Raiders, the Arabian horse in Desert Attack is really good, and there are ostriches and CAMELS.
I wonder why Lego hasn't done a camel before, what with Johnny Thunder and Indiana Jones, both of which had desert settings in the themes.

I also notice that the Desert Attack set seems to be done in a style more similar to earlier sets back from the days of Pirates, Johnny Thunder, Wild West, and the other non-liscenced themes in the "adventure" genre.
