Review: 40495 Harry, Hermione, Ron and Hagrid
Posted by Huw,40495 Harry, Hermione, Ron & Hagrid is one of two Harry Potter BrickHeadz sets being released on 1st June.
It's not the first time that the Hogwarts students and gamekeeper have appeared as blocky characters, so in this review I will compare the new versions with their predecessors.
The students are constructed as 3x3 BrickHeadz and are identical from the neck down. Their hair-styles differ significantly, as you'd expect, both in colour and style. Harry's glasses are represented by two 2x2 round tiles, similar to those used for the Minions' goggles, and he has the requisite lightning-shaped scar on his forehead.
They are all attired in robes which flow down to the ground at the back and sides.
You wait ages for a BrickHeadz version of Hagrid then two come along at once! The first one was only released during September last year, as a gift with purchase at LEGO.com.
The revised version is very similar to that in 40412 Hagrid & Buckbeak. Other than the colour of his coat, the main changes are the printed waistcoat piece and curved slopes used in his hair. They have helped make the forehead appear less prominent and overall this version is an improvement on the old one.
The students that appeared in BrickHeadz form in 2018 were regular-sized 4x4 versions. Here they are side-by side with their miniature counterparts:
Harry from 41615 Harry Potter & Hedwig
Ron from 41621 Ron Weasley & Albus Dumbledore. The Two Ronnies...
41616 Hermione Granger
Verdict
The miniature versions of the students are undeniably cute, and much more to scale with the Hogwarts gamekeeper that accompanies them in this set. If you're a fan of the blocky characters you will find much to like here.
It's been three years since the previous versions of the students were produced, during 2018 when BrickHeadz had short-shelf lives, so the chances are that many fans of the franchise missed out on them then, so their re-release will be welcomed.
Releasing a second Hagrid in the space of a few months is more puzzling, though, particularly given that this one is much the same as the previous rendition. However, given that the other one was only available as a gift with purchase, I guess many people will have missed out on acquiring the much-loved character.
40495 Harry, Hermione, Ron & Hagrid will be available at LEGO.com from 1st June.
Thanks for LEGO for providing the set for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

The new Harry looks so cute next to the old one!
These look cute.
Why was there no news of their release on Brickset?
This is the first time we've been permitted to acknowledge their existence.
What a downgrade... Harry looks like he's on drugs. :)) Only Hagrid looks better than the previous one.
C'mon. Mix the students with the minions already. And goats.
Yey! I hope the Brickset team will start reviewing the new Harry Potter sets soon. Reading reviews makes me a lot more excited for the 20th anniversary line.
I can’t wait to get the Chamber of Secrets!
'Yer a Minion, Harry'
The guy on the left looks like a massive nerd.
I don't buy much BrickHeadz sets, but I'm gonna be tempted to pick this one up. They're so cute!!! Also, I feel like the Hagrid included here is a drastic upgrade from the 2020 one, and looks so much better, if you ask me.
I keep wondering why Harry has a grey stripe in his hair. Then keep realising that it’s just light reflecting off the cheese slope at that angle...
Harry’s glasses look a bit off.
I can't unsee the 1x1 tile between Ron and Hermione eyes as the suggestion of a nose. Hope this doesn't ruin them for anyone else!
I looked at Harry and immediately burst out laughing.

OMG ur right!
I missed out on Hagrid last September somehow, so this is a day one purchase for me. I like the smaller version of Harry, Ron & Hermoine, too cute.
These look great. Definite purchase.

I legit laughed when I saw this because the Brickhead really does. I wonder if the nerd is remotely important to the series he comes from...

+1000
This is the most stupid looking Harry representation ever. What a letdown, as the rest of the figures is really well made.
If anything, he looks like Steve Urkel
Poor little Harry looks like the love child of a Minion and Robin from the Lego Batman Movie
I will ever not laugh at Harry. He looks like he's on acid.
For the most part, I like these mini wizards. The kids grew up a lot though all the stories, so it seems appropriate for them to come in various sizes (as do their minifigs). I think Harry's glasses would work a little better if the ring between the black eyeglass rim and the BrickHeadz eye design was printed tan.
I have to say that looking at these I thought of them more as the characters from the first book while the other ones would be from later in the series. they look good. I don't get a lot of HP Lego but I am sure they will sell well enough.
I'm glad I don't care for Brickheadz. These minis, while to a better scale with Hagrid, don't look right to me. And Hermione's hair...umm no
I would say Hagrid looks tremendously better than the other thanks to the forehead area. I do have the other one because it was a GWP, but I never would have acquired it otherwise. It is just sitting on a damaged box because that is how they get shipped now...
I will say Harry looks the best out of the trio at this scale (even with his ridiculous eyes).
