By in United Kingdom,

I had pretty much given up on the recent City sets, but it will be hard to resist getting a whole family of elephants.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Elephants! :)

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Elephants for Hannibal :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

*Zoo Tycoon theme intensifies*

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

Male lion! (or is it just 'lion'?) Loving these new animal moulds.

Gravatar
By in Estonia,

That lion cub though... cutest animal fig ever.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Dino 2010 making a comback!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wonder if one of the monkeys will visit Central Perk.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh-no...

My money be gone.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

ELEPHANT ELEPHANT ELEPHANT!!!!!!! SO EXCITED!!! I don't care how overpriced that set is, I'm getting one, maybe two!

(Though to be honest, I think I still like the original one more)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is that a printed egg with an eye?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I NEED those animals but I can't justify getting the whole sets. There isn't enough other good stuff in them for me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

OMG! I want that egg with the eye peeking out!!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'd be lion if I said I didn't want these sets, but let's not ignore the elephant in the room here...

Gravatar
By in United States,

They need sloths! But, must have elephants.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ummm...yes please. I don't care about city sets normally, but I will want all the animals!

But they will be ridiculously overpriced I'm sure.

I skipped out on the Mammoth because that set was too expensive for my blood. I don't think I'll want to miss out on elephants.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

What is going on with the monkeys hands?

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Opaque blue water? What the ... ? No transparent pieces available anymore?

Gravatar
By in Portugal,

I really like the new animal designs. And I also noticed that the color scheme for the vehicles is the same one as Dino Attack and Dino 2010.

Gravatar
By in India,

Love them All !!!

Gravatar
By in Czechia,

Like all of them, especially the lion cub. What kind of part is the "bandage" one on a monkey´s arm?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is it because they are making those the new road plates in blue (8x16 and 8x8), tan (8x16), and green (8x8) ??? Lego never does big transparent pieces, they are $$$
That would also mean we'll get 8x8 dbley road plates!

And if you combine them with the Safari Jeep you get more for your bucks.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

That printed snake is nice too.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Monkeys set is amazing, other sets terrain is nice but don't really care about the vehicles.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well guess I’ll be forced to buy some city sets...

Gravatar
By in Norway,

If City had a subtheme every year with this number of animal moulds I would be a happy camper!
I will get a lot of each animal and I might even buy the sets to give Lego a pat on the back for a job well done ;)
Still a big limited set and a polybag to go with even more animals :D

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

That (male) lion is saying 'buy me, buy me'! I already have a female that will go nicely with the male and the cub in 60301.

The adult elephant in 60302 isn't bad, but if I'm prioritising my LEGO spending, I'll focus on the lions. I already have a System elephant.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Simba and grown-up Simba/Mufasa in one set....nice!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

There is so much to like in these sets.
I thought the announcements earlier today were good, this lot seem even better.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Glad they got rid of police. This is so much better

Quit monkeying about!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yay, yay, yay! I can't say how many years I've been waiting for animals like these!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

'Turning action' on the Animal Rescue ATV? Does this mean steering front wheels?

I think it's the part I've first seen in 60204 City Hospital.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Does that elephant not have any articulation on its legs at all? Everything but the head looks like a single mould. That's a massive, massive downgrade from my Orient Expedition elephants.

60301 had me fooled into thinking it was a 5+ set. It's actually 4+?! Amazing.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

I prefer the old monke.

Gravatar
By in United States,

That elephant is going to be so expensive on Bricklink.

same, i've been a fan since a kid but stopped since there was nothing interesting but these

Gravatar
By in United States,

60302 has 8x16 tiles in azure and DARK TAN! Awesome.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow I want all of these! Glad to see something different come out of city besides just police/fire variations.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

@MeganL said:
"They need sloths! But, must have elephants."

I completely agree, I'm still hoping for those wonderful sloths to pop up in a less expensive set :D

Also the rest of the lion family means I'll have to buy another 4+ set just for one figure (or 2, in this case)

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Well the theme is a unique idea, the tan colour scheme looks good, the animals are also nice I guess, but my whole impression is a bit 'meh'. These sets feel like some Playmobil toys for me, not much building is involved as I can see, and if the price tags of $10, $50 and $90 respectively are true, the value would cry daylight robbery. (Or maybe it is just me who usually can't get that excited of new huge prefab elements :D I mean c'mon, this is Lego, you could just build an elephant that size as well that can also move.) Might pick up the smallest one on a clearance though, for $6 it would make a nice impulse buy with interesting pieces.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is that the 3rd crocodile (Alligator? Yes I used to know the difference) mold we’ve had? Either way, these sets look great.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

INSTANT MUST BUY

instead if I can get the animals through bricks and pieces :p

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

60301: Perfect for re-enacting Simba watching Mufusa falling from the rocks...
"Noooooo..."
Definitely getting that and the elephants

Gravatar
By in United States,

I dunno, after all the Jurassic Park dino molds, I feel let down that the elephant appears to be pretty static... no leg movement, no head movement, ext. I'm very tempted to get one but all the same for just one giant mold...

Gravatar
By in Croatia,

Finally! I've seen smallest and biggest set four months ago, but in low res pics.
I think I'll start collecting animals

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

All of the new moulds look amazing hopefully we can get more sets with new moulds for animals like giraffes and zebras

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Love those elephants. Not a City collector but I gotta say City strays further and further away from an actual city with every wave. I miss the days where these sorts of sets would be given their own in house theme and thus more room to breathe. Would love to see City bring in some infrastructure. Office buildings, apartments, transport hubs etc

Gravatar
By in France,

Absolutely ecstatic to get new beautiful Lego animals, and globally beautiful little sets!
Great, great idea there! Eager to grab the whole line!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm gonna need that elephant..

Too bad there was no new giraffe mould though...

Gravatar
By in Poland,

D E G R A D A T I O N
Both monkey and Elephant look very disapointing and cheap. I am suprised so many people like it.
They should have made new big animal making system somewhat alike the old Elephants. That woukd allow to make rhinos, girrafes and more. Monkeys should use Golum arms to be fun and posable.
The lion set however is great. But its 4+. Obviously just to rise price becpuse people will buy it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Is "Turning Action" the worst name ever for a City character LOL but Lions sans Tigers and Bears - Oh, my!

Gravatar
By in Poland,

This small quad is the best! I'll buy it only!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

No goats!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is NO ONE excited for more ATVs and Helicopters???

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

The original monkey was so much better.

Yes, while this would be cool, I don’t think the target demographic of City sets would like this. I don’t think many kids will drop 50+ dollars for a Lego office building, as cool as it may be. I agree, however, that this is now getting into the realm of barely a city. Make a safari theme lego!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Good news for lego zoo keepers.

Gravatar
By in Mexico,

reminds me of the Dino Attack theme from 2010
Same color scheme.
But is it me or do all sets look 4+??

Gravatar
By in Canada,

This is awesome! Well done LEGO, keep the animals coming. Hey, how about a new goat? ;)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The latest Duplo Elephant 10884 required more assembly that this plastic bulk. Very disappointed

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Oh, man! I'm so torn. More animals is cool, new theme is cool ... I just hope there'll be some sets pitched just a little older, 'cause most of the builds themselves don't immediately interest me

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lion needs to be yellow for Simba, now we need an Indian elephant for Mrs. Jumbo.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

WOW! Another quad. It's so innovative!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Heffalumps for the Winnie the Pooh set!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Take my money!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Because this is stuff visible in every major "CITY" of the world... I've been clamouring for Lego System (not Friends) animals for such a long time, I'll pass over the wrong theme name and eventually get those overpriced single use parts (to me, this is a valid case for single use part).

They've got three of the big 5 (Elephant, rhino(central black and south white), African or cape buffalo, lion and leopard). Leopard (could also pass a Jaguar) was available in 60161 in (2017). Female lion is still available in 60267 and may also pass as a cougar if you want to.

They already did the flamingo and chimpanzee in recent cmfs (bring them back please - and while you are there, bring back the ostriches). Let's see the gnu, zebra, giraffe, anteater, warthog, meerkat, hyena, hippos, springbok, baboons and of course the missing rhino and buffalo from the big 5. Sloths are in a totally different part of the world but would be nice to have them just the same.

After that, you can start working on farm animals(make another mould of the goat and develop a sheep) and northern hemisphere wild animals.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Great sets for the age range. ANIMALS and a bit of Lego.

Love the sand and red color scheme. My only small disappointment is that the vehicle in 60302 looks like it's missing a back half. It just needs to be a little longer. That doesn't keep me from wanting the set.

Gravatar
By in Finland,

Great animals, wish there were great sets for them to be in

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

After 18 years, we finally get a new elephant mold.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Continent by continent...
Next up, kangaroos, koalas, echidnas...

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I can’t believe it. City might have finally redeemed itself!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Woohoo I can now make the Lion King!!!

Gravatar
By in Poland,

A new elephant is to angular and doesnt have movable legs- not the best one IMO.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@Yoritomo:
The eye is ridiculously oversized, but it's supposed to be an egg that has started hatching. And no, before you ask, it's not a giant Mantis. Though, I must admit, I'm a bit disappointed that it's not a Dragon, myself.

@dja:
The new monkey is a one-piece design, unlike the original (which involved nine pieces!). One hand is resting on the ground as monkeys are faster running on all fours, and the other is raised with a clip for a hand so it can hold minifig accessories.

@Zoufalec:
Part 30924, an arm cast. It was created for the minidolls of Friends, designed to be compatible with minifig arms, and is attached by clipping the hand to a short bar at one end. Since the monkey has a clip hand, it can also hold the cast, but because it can't rotate its wrist, the cast would look bizarre from the other side as it's completely open.

@Yes:
1. They didn't get rid of the police. There are still tons of police sets available, including this year's Modular. They're just not part of this specific batch of sets (nor are they a part of _every_ batch of City sets).
2. You must not be aware of how many law enforcement officers are involved in anti-poaching and anti-smuggling efforts worldwide.

@B_Space_Man:
No? I mean, there are several Duplo crocs, Chima croc minifigs, DC Killer Croc minifigs and bigfigs, printed bricks, Unikitty's Hawk-o-dile, and more Duplo parts that are just part of the croc, but there are only two molds for minifig crocs/gators. The first is an 8-tooth variety that uses the same upper jaw and tail as the old Dragonmasters dragon. The other is a 20-tooth version that was introduced in 2015, and sometimes shows up as different parts because of print variations for the eyes.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Some of the new animals are quite nice but I don't think I'll buy the sets just for those. Like someone said they look very much like Playmobil to me.
But hey, that's ok, as me not buying them means more left for those who like the sets more than me. Win-win situation if you ask me.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't know if I'm touched or saddened by the old elephant trunk/tail piece being used as a tree in the set with the new elephants using a relatively newer mould instead.

I really want to love these, but somehow feel a bit let down by the animals themselves. As has been mentioned a few times already, they feel a bit like Playmobil. I'm glad that Lego has gone this route and finally returned to some animals that have long been missing, but also feel that something has been lost in the relatively recent shift in design language. Yes, these animals are more detailed and maybe even "cuter," but they lack that blocky, unmistakable Lego character of previous versions. The old monkey lasted from 1989-2009 and the old horse from 1984-2012; nearly 30 years of consistent styling, yet within a decade of the horse's discontinuation it would really look out of place with these animals. They're still Lego, but it's a different toy.

As we continue Rebuilding the World, maybe it's time we take a long hard look at the minifigure: it's starting to look like a cheap animatronic compared to the surrounding animals! (Note to TLG: please don't redesign the minifigure; you love it, we love it, everyone does! Put that R&D towards repairing/replacing the goat mould!)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like them. There you go. I said it. Think they are a welcome break from so many repeated sets over recent years. Well done Lego. Finally some more animals to help the kids make a zoo!!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well I'm just pleased to see that there will be a helicopter. It's been so long since we had one of those

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I haven’t bought a LEGO set all year but I’ll be picking all these up. Brilliant!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love elephants, and this elephant is so cool. So good! The snake is awesome, too. Reminds me of Nagini from the Potter CMF series.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Shame the new monkey can't move its arms, considering 60300 has poo for it to fling...
Love the helicopter drone. Should be easy to tweak into a mini-scale cargo helicopter.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I'm really not a fan of the poop piece.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

In 60301 I'm sure the fish is glad it got rescued :D

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

60301 doesn’t look too bad for a 4+ set

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Old monkeys and elephants were better. Actually had articulation, really the only downside were no place to print the eyes unto. Thankfully I was able to stock up on elephants a couple years ago, otherwise it would have greatly bothered me that Lego again has nothing better to do than downgrade its old molds.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

LEGO City... Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Monkey arms are terrible, they should've made them like the old ones or gollum arms as someone mentioned earlier. Or at least make two molds, all the monkeys in this silly pose look mediocore.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Must admit I'm disappointed with the non-posable limbs monkey. The 1989 one is still my favourite LEGO animal. Anyway, hope these sell well and prove there's demand for more animal moulds. A farm theme with dairy cows and sheep is desperately needed.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

People talking smack about the helicopter but I'm thinking that tan cockpit will be great for military MOCs!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@vizzitor said:
"Simba and grown-up Simba/Mufasa in one set....nice!"
That's a good thought! Lion King sets (the 1994 Lion King, that is) when, Lego? You've already got the Disney license, now have moulds for the primary species, and Lion King merch is always popular in my experience; it seems like a no-brainer to me!

Slap some unique prints on the lion, lioness and cub moulds to be Simba/Mufasa/Nala/Scar/Sarabi, build some fantastic African-aesthetic sets for them, and all you need is, like, five more moulds for the main non-lion characters (Hornbill, Mandrill, Hyena, Warthog, Meerkat) and such a theme would be ready to go! I'd buy some of it, for sure ^^

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I miss the old lego adventure elephants but these are a must get!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would be interested if they had used the old elephant and monkey designs/molds but with up-dated heads (or whole body in the monkey's case) that allowed for printed eyes. These new ones are to static for my tastes.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Honestly, these new monkeys are weird - just look at those hands! The other molds are nice in appearance, but as others have noted, not very poseable.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

@MeganL said:
"They need sloths! But, must have elephants."

Agree on the sloths but if I am not mistaken sloths don't naturally live in Africa.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

What a shame, city sets are just getting more and more juniorized. Aside from that I prefer the more traditional city themes such as construction and regular city amenities. I guess these themes must appeal to the younger audience, which is of course the target audience.

Gravatar
By in Israel,

Ok LEGO, you win. happy?

Gravatar
By in United States,

There is now a picture of 60307 in the db, but no mention in any article yet.

Looks like it comes with an adult elephant, female lion, lion cub, male white lion, white lion cub, 2 monkeys, and a large bird.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Elephants!

Male lion looks good too.

The Monkeys look more like, Rhesus Monkeys this time... which is good.

Gravatar
By in United States,

They look so good! But did anyone notice the croc egg with the eye poking out?

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I'm - gonna - need - that - lion !

Gravatar
By in United States,

Hopefully they come out with a giraffe, zebra, and maybe a flamingo; and bring back the camel and ostrich.

Gravatar
By in United States,

And hippo. And Rhino.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@devilhead:
The CMF line already did a flamingo. Sure, it’s a plastic lawn ornament, but so is everything else.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Monkey Poo...
Guess we really needed that in there :(

But all for more animals.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I really like the fresh idea for city. Unfortunatley the animals are very static and look cheap like many people have already mentioned. The builds are poor too. There is also too much wasted on useless plates on the ground (And the sets will be overly expensive).

Gravatar
By in United States,

@markisnot:
You can always pretend they’re ant hills. That doesn’t work so well with 31031.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I normally don't subscribe to "the past was better", but I do prefer the classic pirate monkeys. These monkeys are fine, but I do love the previous incarnation.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@redbeardlegoman:
The old monkey certainly had the advantage in terms of the number of weapons it could attack you with!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The fact that enough people are intrigued by the new animal builds, makes it seem like we aren't trying hard enough to let Lego know these sets are not what we want from Lego City. Though to be fair, it isn't quite as bad as what happened to Lego Town back in 1997, but I sincerely hope they'll bring City sets back to the way they're meant to be before they sink to a new low. We definitely don't want another Jack Stone phase before it gets better again (if it does that is)!
