Ideas Typewriter reveal imminent!
Posted by Huw,LEGO has just posted a teaser on social media for the next Ideas set, the typewriter. I think we can therefore anticipate it being revealed later this week.
You can view the short video after the break. Are you looking forward to it?

oh boy...
Cant wait to see what it looks like. Definitely interested.
Don't pretend it's going to be a fully functioning typewriter, Lego! Non-Lego fans were already confused and upset about the piano because of the false/unfair advertisement.
I'm looking forward to the final product though!
Most likely won’t buy it, but can’t wait to see it!
I'm pretty excited for this one. I love the more unique Ideas sets (non-licensed, etc,) and I love vintage typewriters. Can't wait to see what they've done with it!
Interesting statues they chose to put on her desk. LEGO is getting a little wild with the marketing some of these 18+ sets.
I remember this great concept, when LEGO chose both Home Alone and this unique project over the Bionicle display piece. I am more than glad to see the reveal and the set itself but that was a low blow but in other news, if this does ends up being revealed this week it will be a great month for announcements (E3 2021 this week, this set and the Lego Con).
I have the piano to build and should not get this but expect will, whether its full function or not!
Judging by the image alone, she is either an eye doctor or a prison warden . . . who is into sculpture and also LEGO, I guess?
Look at the vision poster. Lego VR goggles confirmed. ;)

yes indeed, I think that this is the first penis to appear in a Lego advert!

Ohp. I had the exact same thought. Both of them are... well... um... they must have forgotten to get dressed. That’s the most un- awkward way to say it.
When the Lego version of something costs more than its real counterpart, it's generally a 'no' for me.
As she types from Hannibal Lecter's basement office; "all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy..."
The LEGO Group's Marketing Office; "We thought it was quite cheerful actually!"
Now the biggest thing I wonder if it will have like 40 printed parts, or just blank.
So this was announced almost a year ago in June 2020, which means the one I'm looking forward to the most (the stratocaster) will likely be released in September, still time to save up.
My guess is $200+
Anyone under 15 asks, what's a typewriter?
based on the digital (rather than paper) typewritten message in the advert, I am guessing that the type writer (when combined with powered up app) will allow you to type text that will appear on your phone. Maybe?
Very curious to see what they have done with this. I'm from the generation that actually learned to type on an old-fashioned typewriter and I was mildly traumatized by the evil lady that drilled me. Perhaps I should get this to deal with the trauma.
D*ck Pic from LEGO???

Thanks for reminding me of that set! My electric guitar is a strat, so I kind of have to buy it. I’ll be interested to see what scale it is.
I used an electric Corona as a teenager (and I'm just 24) that I often used to type my papers on in middle school (I had a PC, but got more done due to less distractions on the old-school typewriter). I'm going to fix up the one my great-Granddad had (which I'm not sure if I can do); and a surplus store I buy stuff from has a really nice all-mechanical Swedish-made Olympia Carina 2 for $70. Only problem is that being as these were made for the Swedish military, and thus Swedish market, it does not have a QWERTY keyboard (more like QUERTZ as the "Z" and "Y" swap places). That's gonna take some getting used to.
This set is well done, but as I mentioned before, I'd rather spend less than what this set will likely be on a typewriter I can actually use. These take up about the same space anyway.
I’m pretty sure there’s a Real Genius movie quote in here, but for the life of me I can’t remember what it is....
Not excited at all, it seem very uninteresting to me.
Can they just do a Castle line and stop making all these odd Lego’s?
Not really excited by this, but it did lead me to browse on Ideas sets, thence an impulse purchase of 21322 PoBB on discount!

Ooh discount where? I have it already, but don’t know if I could put off buying a second at discount!
Looking forward to this just because I can relax knowing it's an expensive Lego set i won't feel compelled to buy.

Maybe they're expecting to sell more of them over the other side of the Atlantic.
This is one of the sets I have got on my must have list.
Unless they do the same thing they did with the piano by making it it twice as expensive as necessary only because they integrated a useless but overly complicated function.
Give me a stationary LEGO typewriter display piece and I am happy.
If it doesn't come with Auto Correct I'm totally not getting this.
The practiCal thing to do is practiCe your spelling.

I think the most realistic conclusion is that the video is overselling what the set will do.
Very slight chance it might work like the Piano and will recognize when any key is pressed and it will do something on screen. No chance for 1:1 working keyboard.
While it would be neat, honestly I would take a less expensive set, with no power functions, over the novelty.
yay. Another non-affordable D2C for me to wish was cheaper...yay.
I am intrigued but really need a bit more to make a decision on whether to get it or not

Spotted the boomer! ;)
I wasn’t buying the piano, but buckled and got it at Christmas and absolutely loved building it and it’s the one set my wife will have on display in the house.
So, here we go again.
I am not buying the typewriter…. I am not buying the typewriter…. I am not buying the typewriter………….. I’m buying the typewriter! Damn
The typewriter is whatever, but the crazy thing is that it's 2021 and there's an (artistic depiction of) a human penis in a Lego advertisement
40516 is completely not following TLG rules: all the minifigs are naked. So one little penis can't do any harm.
Besides, that torso is Art (like 40516). Surely we're beyond the age of demanding fig-leaves!
And still waiting on Seinfeld...
I think that this means that we will be getting letter and number tiles very soon...
And it turns out to be the next Nintendo D2C: Mario Teaches Typing!
I'm still waiting for the sonic mania ideas set.
@TheWackyWookiee:
Seinfeld and Home Alone were approved in the same class as the Typewriter. They're running about a year out on announcements vs sets.
@Rexcesler09:
Yeah, you've got some time ahead of you. See above.

Thank you for saying it for me!
Although really, what is it with people thinking that something like say a typewriter is some alien technology? Have I ever used one? No. But its not like we haven't seen them in period movies or tv shows, or old ones at grandparents houses gathering dust or even in museums. They are not as far distant in the past as say, butter churns, iron lungs and bed pans are... I see the same jokes made about rotary phones and old TV sets and I just don't get it, just because we never used any of that tech personally doesn't mean we aren't familiar with their existence (admittedly I am 12 years older than the demographic he is targeting in the joke but my point still stands).
I hope no one is getting upset about anatomically correct classic sculptures in advertising…
Typewriter doesn’t personally interest me but I’m keen to see how they pull it off.
Seinfeld shouldn’t be too far off; supposedly there’s been a Newman head leak. I can see Home Alone being made just in time for Christmas.
This will be great for all the programmers who don’t understand why it’s called carriage return line feed. The only question is will this be a Boost or Mindstorms set?
Personally if I’m going to type on an old-school device, I’d prefer to type LOAD *.*,8,1

Letters are coming in 41938! We do need numbers, though!
Absolutely not. You can probably get a real vintage one for the same money.
The discussion about the inclusion of certain male organs of the nether regions in the teaser reminded me of one of my all time favorite quotes. Actually it fits perfectly:
"and, finally, here are some completely gratuitous pictures of penises to annoy the censors and to hopefully spark some sort of controversy..."
;-)
Monty Python truly were geniuses.
I am more interested in the Lego camera on her desk, an update to LG10002? One day we may even get a miniature working bluetooth video camera that can fit inside a rc car or train?
I wanted a "Murder, She Wrote"-intro-like teaser...

Typing a story About a boy with a tool hard as marble?
Anyhow reveal is imminent.
Forget the typewriter, what's going on with the penis in the right?
I'm more interested in whether or not LEGO will pull this commercial once they notice.

Oh behave!
@chrisaw:
Last year was the 30th anniversary of the first movie, though. And next year is the 30th for the first sequel, the 25th for HA3, the 20th for HA4, and the 10th for HA5. This year isn’t a milestone for any movie in the franchise. Oh, hey, 30th for the video game based on the first move, and 15th for the second video game based on the first movie! I never knew they made games based on Home Alone.
So is this one just going to be a glorified mobile phone holder as well then?

My issue is that they could have easily covered that area of the statue up with another desk item. But they chose to flash everyone who looks at that teaser. Or even partially cover it like they did with the female statue on the left. I don’t think it’s horribly inappropriate, but it’s kinda odd for LEGO.
I'm interested to see what they do with it but I'm not so keen that I think it's likely I'll buy it.
When's the next Ideas review results due? It feels like quite a long time since the last one.

That's America for you.
Guns and violence on every medium? No problem, bring it on.
Nudity, even if it's only a two-thousand year old statue? Cry havoc and run away screaming.

They knew well what they were doing. They knew that this would bring more attention to the set.

I agree. We still use it at work to fill certain forms - as a company it looks much better if forms are filled with the typewriter. Not all forms can be filled on the computer.
I wonder if Tom Hanks knows about this? He loves typewriters

Used to make butter.
We still have a set of different crockware churns for different steps in the process that's been in the family for years. Was used back when my Granddad was growing up, but I'd reckon a guess it ain't been used in 60 years.

Same. Along with at least 50 other sets...Winnie the Pooh, 1989 Batmobile, Mickey & Minnie, Space Shuttle...it's getting ridiculous
