LEGO Con 2021 is Live!

Posted by ,

The first LEGO Con virtual event begins later today at 5pm BST, 12pm EDT and 9am PDT.

There's a wide variety of sessions planned, covering everything from Minecraft to Technic. Of most interest to us, though, is a Star Wars set reveal, which the rumour mill is suggesting could be the UCS Republic Gunship.

Update: It's also been announced that the results of the LEGO Ideas We Love Sports contest review will be revealed during the event.

It'll be hosted by Melvin Odoom, presenter of UK LEGO Masters series, and Michelle Khare.

You can watch it for free at LEGO.com/legocon and if you miss it you'll be able to view a recording after it's finished.

Will you be tuning in?

Let us hope they acquired sufficient bandwith to facilitate all those viewers

Knowing how 'great' the lego website is.... they really should've done this via a 3rd party like how nintendo has it's directs on YouTube.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Pretty much every company whose products I collect does these things on YouTube or Facebook Live. Not the biggest fan of either, but at least you know that won't crash.

Yeah I agree.

Or like Warhammer Previews on Twitch.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

I won't be wasting my time to watch this live. I prefer a recap here at brickset :)

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I would like to watch it, but considering I’m about to go to bed and it will start at 2am down here, I’ll just watch it tomorrow afternoon.

That’s if nothing is spoiled.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hoping for more reveals than just Star Wars. Maybe Seinfeld?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I don't have time to watch the whole thing. I'm sure someone will be kind enough to recap the highlights.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I’ve devoted far too much time to the refresh button with Lego this year already.
I’m enjoying a break :-)

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Like the other Aussies on here, I'm curious, but not enough to get up at 2am AEST on a Sunday morning to watch. Maybe if I was 26 and not 46 it'd be a different story, but alas it's getting on for 11pm and I'm off to bed before things start turning into pumpkins!

Enjoy every that manages to watch it live for how ever long the Lego servers manage to stay up!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'll be watching Denmark vs Wales today in the Euro 2020! I will watch Lego Con later on YouTube or however they offer it. (I am excited to watch it though.)

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't think I can tune in, so I'll have to watch it later.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What does everyone think the new star wars set is? I would personally love it if it was the Mandalorian armory. But it’ll probably be the Gunship, or the other 800$ Price point UCS set.

Gravatar
By in Finland,

If there's only the one Star Wars set announced and that's it for actual Lego announcements, I don't really see a reason to watch this

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Betcha a tenner it's gonna be one of the Star Wars sets from that Japanese catalogue a few weeks back! :P

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Next article: lego website crashed due to overload of users watching lego con

Gravatar
By in Mexico,

If they don’t reveal the Republic Gunship my heart will be shattered into pieces

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Said it before, but I'm wondering what with all the reveals and leaks over the last few weeks, what have they got left to show us?

Gonna agree with most people here it seems, that it'll be better to just watch the highlights after the event.

I don't think Melvin Odoom is particularly good/interesting/funny as a presenter.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It will be interesting to see the results of the 'We Love Sports' review. Most of the models require what are likely to be unobtainable licenses which doesn't leave many contenders.

They should do the right thing and push back the Lego Con a couple of hours :D

!!!COME ON WALES!!!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'll tune in on a second screen while I watch the football, and maybe give it a thorough re-watch afterwards. I think the content will be very kid-focused (as it should be), so I'm not expecting much to interest most AFOLs unless there are true exclusives of un-leaked items.

I'm very keen to see official 2-player demos of Mario as I see a lot of potential there.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow there is so much sarcasm in the comments.

And I love it!

Honestly, that’d be an interesting set. Lol. That could be the 800$ UCS set!!!

It's broke as a reddish brown plate for me!

Edit: Its working after reload and waiting though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was planning on watching live, but we had to take our dog to the vet and ran a bit late, so I’m missing it now, but I’ll probably watch the archived stream later.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Pre-recorded section over.
Live section starts.
Stream starts getting shonky.
Well done, Lego.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I forgot that this stream was meant for a much younger audience... Lets just hope the set reveals are good.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think I'm going to watch the recording later so I can skip though the stuff I'm not interested in.

Gravatar
By in United States,

LOL it broke
Edit: Twice!

Refresh, hit play, all back to normal.

This is actually quite smooth and quite good fun.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Who else got bored with the stream and turned it off?

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

A recap will be more than sufficient.
All those CON-events are always somewhat navel-gazing.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Boy, they are really pushing that Vidiyo marketing.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

“Oops, we’ve broken something”…

Pretty darn typical

Gravatar
By in Canada,

OOPS, WE'VE BROKEN SOMETHING!

(here we go again). I guess I'll wait for the summary then.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

And the most technical issue ridden con goes to..(drum roll)..

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Breakey wakey!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It was only a matter of time...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Okay, place your bets people. Will the stream return just as the presenter says

"wow, what an amazing new set and you saw it first here folks, now onto xyz"

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

They’ve put LLAMA’s music back on to, err, keep us entertained I guess

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Okay, I’m getting sound again now. L.L.A.M.A. playing some funky beats or so.

But in all seriousness, when will somebody in that company realize they really need to do something with their IT issues. This is embarrassing..

Gravatar
By in United States,

Multi-billion dollar corporation can't figure out how to stream an hour and a half of video without severe tech issues. They didn't even have the foresight to stream it to multiple platforms like YouTube or Twitch. TLG really needs to hire some new web developers because the website has had issues for like half a decade at this point.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

@The_Mack said:

Vidiyo is actually a pretty good app experience. £3.99 for a bandmate (or free for a digital one) gets you access to a lot of content, with lots available free on a daily rotating basis. Definitely for kids, but still fun for silly adults :)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Twitch and Youtube can handle 150.000-300.000 viewers on a single stream , why didn't LEGO pick one of those platforms ? ?

Gravatar
By in United States,

How can a company so big have a live event flop like this?

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

How long does the event last??

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Foosball table? Really? Well, apparently we have very different definitions of the word "sport".

Gravatar
By in United States,

Should have a drinking game with how many times she says amazing.

Gravatar
By in Czechia,

I can understand technical difficulties. Main problem I have with the show it kind of can not decide if it is for kids or adults. For kids there is hell of a talking and for adults there is unbearable amount of artificial coolness. Yes, and virtually no trains.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's really just a two hour commercial.

@Inflex said:

^^Exactly. It was difficult to watch the hosts trying so hard to hype things up to a live audience consisting of a few technicians and a stage manager who contributed sparse applause. Yikes! I felt bad for them.

Gravatar

Just revealing the Moff Gideon Imperial cruiser... which was already leaked...

Gravatar

Aaaand the reveal isn't a reveal.

This has been dreadful.

Gravatar

Where is the UCS Gunship?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I sat through 2 hours just to see sets that were already leaked/revealed. No sign of the UCS Gunship or the video game. Sigh. I expected nothing and was still disappointed.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

They're not gonna reveal anything meaningful, are they?

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I just checked con in the dictionary: here is what I get.

Con: verb, persuade (someone) to do or believe something, typically by use of a deception.

On that basis, I assume this Lego con was a total success.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@The_Mack said:

I rest my case...

Gravatar
By in United States,

This was a waste of time. Nothing new.

Gravatar
By in United States,

What an absolute nothing burger... No news or set releases, and these releases were all known about months ago. This event felt like a complete waste of time to watch... how dissapointing

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I guess Minecraft fans got to see designs for 3 potential new minifigs for a set next year? I did like seeing the new Mandalorian sets up close though, even if there was no Gunship reveal. The display stand vehicle for the small Slave I is a good idea!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Was really expecting something more exciting. Some of the chat with designers was okay but no big reveal! Rather disappointing. You would have figured they might have shown us something new and cool after watching over an hour. Sigh!

Gravatar
By in Slovakia,

wasted 2 hours of my time, not joining any lego con ever. Start was decent but Q&A submission of question was for nothing ? At least Lego could do for every theme save 5 minutes for answering questions from fans. And exclusive reveals of SW sets ? We already got the pictures for weeks :/

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Waste of time - don't bother re-watching if you missed. Only the pre-show was interesting to watch imo.

LOL! You beat me to it.

Oh, LEGO...I love ya, but it's not so easy to impress or surprise people these days - AFOLs OR kids. Much of this presentation was a review of the last two weeks of leaked sets. Let's see if you learned any of this for 2022.

Gravatar
By in United States,

-_- the Lego con sucked. Lego does not understand anything. they are like an old man in a world of modern technology. I hope they learn from their mistakes but I have nearly lost hope, which is only sustained because of the 501st battle pack. (Only the best is good enough)

Gravatar

"LEGO Con" -- You just got Conned into waisting two hours.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The Humanity!! Oh the HUMANITY!! Won't someone think of the children! My son lost interest a quarter of the way in, I held on until the bitter end and now just wish I used that time scraping my nails on a chalkboard.

Yup the UCS Vidiyo BOOMBOX.... Seriously lego needs to visit some Lego Conventions like BrickCon or something to understand what they are... I hope you enjoyed your 2 hours of time Blogzilly, me I wasted mine watching legocon...

It was the biggest waste of two hours of my life that I can never get back. The name Lego CON is creative because they conned me out of part of my life.

Yep, it Hindenburg'd for sure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

As advertised this was definitely a show for kids. From the host to the programming it was pretty clear when it actually started. The best bits were the pre show with spotlight designers and LM Richard and Flynn from LM US.

Bummers of course In SW no UCS reveal and showing of sets already leaked but then Lego didn’t leak those sets so that’s the fault of the fans.

But of course I too won’t be watching next year. Glad to see it but it’s not for me.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Lego Company

When you all sit around the board table on Monday to evaluate this event, give the person a raise who came up with the title of this event. The only part you got right...we were all conned into thinking this would be much better.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wait, it’s already over. It sound like it was pretty sad.

Gravatar
By in United States,

At least the world of legitimate LEGO fan conventions is safe from TLG’s efforts to develop their own version and take over that space from the fans. (Like what happened to Bricklink)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

For a first-time effort, I thought it was pretty good. The first half was better than the second half, but I think in the circumstances they did a decent job of trying to create some buzz. So, the reveals weren't entirely news to those who track every rumour & follow the fan sites religiously, but none of it had been officially released (all now up on Lego.com to tie in with the announcements).

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Thank God I forgot to watch this (non-)event.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Haven't watched it yet, heard a lot of bad things about, but I gotta say based on that image getting the girl from Mojang on is a pretty smart move. She's been doing a stellar job with Minecon livestreams these last few years, good idea getting outsider experience.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well I won't get that time back.

A set we still can't buy in Australia. It appeared a couple of months ago and sold out in less than an hour. Lego don't supply some sets very well in Australia but it's rediculous when it's such a popular set.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Okay, I just watched (or skim-watched) it this morning, and what a disappointment. Best part was probably the Star Wars interview, but when we had already seen the leaks, it was a let down.

I just hope they could switch from advertisements to celebration next year, fix the dozens of technical issues on the way and try and give it more of an appeal for all ages. What a train wreck!

However, I must admit, when she said ‘Vidiyo Fans’, I absolutely cracked up.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Gotta say I expected more.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

Well, this was as cringe and a waste of time as I predicted it would be.
I'm SO glad I didn't waste time watching it live.

They say they'll do this again in 2022? Yeah...unless you get someone else to organise it, you should probably not bother wasting the resources, LEGO...

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

I felt like it was like an infomercial you see at 4am with the fake "oh wow" I know it's hard to fill nearly 2 hours of air time and try to keep everyone happy from adult fans who follow things closely to kids who just like playing with Lego

Personally I would have prefered it to be a lighting system that people were initially speculating about from the first teaser

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Weak presentations, didnt need to see full size sian, the reveal was poor...was really hoping for more then just one. And sorry Minecraft just doesn't cut if for me (the grandson loves it)

Gravatar
By in Austria,

Well, at least they are consistent. The actual event was just as much a disappointment as the original announcement. They should've gone with the lighting kit.
