The new flagship store on 5th Avenue in New York is now open and early attendees were given a free store associate figure with qualifying purchases.

This is the third such figure we have been made aware of: 6384342 for Warsaw, and 6384339 for Edinburgh, which opened earlier this month.

Thanks to Nicholas for the picture of this and 6373621 Swing Ship Ride, the current gift with purchase.

That buildable figure is awful. Hard to complain about free gifts but why not a minifig w/ special torso and print? smh

By in Netherlands,

LEGO couldn't use a WALL 1/2 CIRCLE, 2X4X2 W/ CUTOUT in yellow for the head?

I understand the part never was made in yellow, but just looks a bit weird with the holes, at least on this render with lines.

Terrible look indeed… 40145 is/was? a much better-looking GWP!

By in United Kingdom,

Why not just give out Lady Liberty 40367 as unique to New York, rather than the 3rd re-use of a generic model.

Because at Lego, only the best is good enough! Lol

It's available anywhere, but the new NYC store did give it out as a GWP on one of the first days.

Maybe I’m behind on the rumours, but does the Swing Ship Ride GWP suggest we might see a full size version soon?

Wow, never thought I'd say this but... yuck! What an ugly GWP. And thats from their flagship store? Boy standards have dropped.

I suppose I am in the minority but I kind of like it so if any of you got one you could send it my way : )

Say what you want about that GWP, but I think it's great. I look forward to the parts list and instructions! Please let us know when they appear!

What an awful, ugly ,bad looking thing..
Are Lego just thinking that we all will love what ever they make..
If this is the way thery are going
I can easily see my self buying much less things from them in near future..
Like the 3 in 1 buildings
They started out very well with the first sets ,
but now they do smal no good houses..

By in United States,

I agree with many of the differing sentiments expressed here. It is nice to have something special, but it is not particularly attractive to my eye. Even so, I would welcome having one because I have no other brick-built minifigures of this scale. Would I go out of my way or spend a lot of money to acquire one? Absolutely not, but I would be thrilled if I happened upon one for little cost or effort. And congratulations to anyone who could get their hands on this set. I have long ago given up on the idea that every set or GWP has to be for me. Well, maybe not that long ago., but I have finally given up.

The appearance is slightly different than the Warsaw and Edinburgh GWP. This one has the apron like the US employees.

Non-US brick specialists don't wear the apron?

No, just a branded polo tee and slacks - at least that I've seen in the UK/Europe, I can't remember if the uniforms had aprons in Canada or not.

By in United States,

I like the weirdness of this, and was happy to add it to my collection yesterday.

For the record, Day 1 of the Grand Opening Weekend, the GWP was Lady Liberty 40367. The Day 2 GWP was the 40145 Brand Store. The Day 3 was this Brick Specialist. So AFOLS were enticed to attend all 3 opening weekend days, and to spend $$!

The store is amazing, btw, and truly lightyears ahead of any LEGO Store I've been to before. A fun experience in itself.

What could possibly go wrong with LEGO releasing a super-exclusive, limited edition minifig available only on a single day at a single location. I don't envision that causing any problems.

Make 500 or 1000 in a special blister pack like this. They've done it before. Not sure what the "problems" would be beyond the usual line-up the day of the grand opening.

Just look around at where you're posting. Every time a set is announced which includes even a hint of exclusivity there are immediate complaints about it.

"That shouldn't be a GWP. It should be available at retail. It's not fair."
"Didn't LEGO promise not to have regional exclusives? It's not fair."
"Why are they still doing convention exclusives? It's not fair."

The only time anything gets a pass for being exclusive is when a set is underwhelming. Case in point right here.

Those aren't problems as in logistical issues with fairly getting the giveaway item into people's hands. Those are unrealistic, entitled whines from grown adults expecting special treatment. Want a special giveaway at a grand opening? Show up or pay super inflated secondary market prices.

But really, the only difference between a special minifig and the above set with a special print unique to this grand opening is the minifig (hopefully) wouldn't look like garbage.

By in United States,

I’m a little surprised by all the negativity surrounding this, given that the Edinburgh version was comparatively well-received right here on Brickset, and this is basically the same thing. It’s an odd little build, don’t get me wrong, I just don’t understand the big swing in reactions to the same set just a few days apart from each other.

Being perceived in a negative light by customers can be a problem for a business, and if you don't see that you must do government work or something.

By in United States,

I visited the store on Sunday. Received this and the Swing ship ride which stacked. A friend also bought Ninjago sets to buy the 10th Anniversary Ninjago Brickheadz for $10 so he received the other 2 sets for free.

The store was a madhouse. Beautiful models on display. The store is shooting for giving customers an azmazing experience while they shop.

The Minifigure Factory printer was down when I visited.

My son and I did the Brick Lab experience which you have to reserve ahead of time.

As for the Grand Opening GWP model, I'm happy to add this set to my collection. I want to build the figure and then try to make custom ones using the instructions.

I LUG NY began in 2009 and we've outlasted 2 LEGO Stores that opened up in 2010 since then. The Elmhurst, Queens store closed up in January of this year and Rockefeller Center closed its doors as well only to move a short walk away to this new store in 5th Avenue.

At the Amsterdam store opening there were only 300 windmills, and I got one of the last five, just a few hours after opening. I don't understand why they didn't make more, knowing there would be hundreds more wanting it, but well, I don't work in marketing, so who am I to know?

Yeah, you're right. Why bother doing anything? All GWP are now scrapped because some slap in the upper midwest can't get to Midtown in time to get the free thing and that isn't fair.

You're arguing LEGO shouldn't do BETTER things because you can't please everyone and that looks bad. Man, that's wild.

I missed the Edinburgh version the first time around so I went back and looked. I don't really care for that one either BUT I think the black shirt is a bit more forgiving in hiding perceived flaws. I'll admit the concept is interesting...I just don't think it was executed well.

Saw the same interior being fitted today in Nieuwegein Holland to a Intertoys Toy store. It looked awesome!!
