LEGO World Builder x Brickset Microbuild competition
Posted by Huw,
We've teamed up with LEGO World Builder to launch an exciting new building competition!
In celebration of our global communities, we're challenging LEGO fans and creators everywhere to take us on a mini World Tour by building micro-scale models of their favourite real or imagined places or landmarks.
Your submissions can be based on real-life locations around the world, or on an original location developed by one of the LEGO World Builder Creators.[1]
Your builds don't have to be exact recreations, you can go in a more abstract direction, like building a micro landscape similar to the Architecture Skyline models.
If you’re new to micro-scale building, check out our articles by subject matter expert BenBuildsLego for ideas and inspiration.
Find out how to enter and what prizes are up for grabs after the break.
Prizes
How to enter
- Follow both @legoworldbuilder and @bricksetofficial on Instagram
- Build your brick model in micro-scale using fewer than 400 pieces
- If your creation is based on an original World on the LEGO World Builder platform, be sure to include the name of the World and Username of the location's creator in your post.
- Share your creations on Instagram using the hashtags #LEGOMiniWorldTour and #LEGOWorldBuilder by October 31st @ 5pm PT
- By participating, you grant LEGO World Builder and Brickset permission to share your entries on our social media accounts
- The winners will be announced on our Instagram channel on November 5th @ 12pm PST.
- The Grand Prize Winner will be contacted after the official announcement (to keep the element of surprise for everyone!) via DM to ask for shipping information. If we do not hear back within 48 hours, we will select a runner-up.
- Our teams will be following these hashtags to find our favourites. This challenge is open worldwide except to countries where the US is unable to ship products.
Feel free to ask questions in the comments or direct message LEGO World Builder on Instagram.
Good luck!
[1] If you decide to go the World Builder route, head to the Discover page and explore an original World. From there, click on the Locations icon to see what places have been imagined for that World.

Sounds fun! ...but unfortunately I'm not on Instagram...
Thanks for shouting out my Brickset articles! :D

I remembered them from last year and it's what inspired this competition! I always meant to try my hand at microscale building but I never get around to building the MOCs I dream about. I hope we get some awesome entries!
Because this is a joint contest between LEGO and Brickset, would a certain city in Israel be allowed, @Huw?
^ Yes of course it is.
How about digital builds?
Castle
This seems really cool but Brickset is more of a database and review site than a MOC one (otherwise people would make their own unlicensed Castle!) and I feel like Rebrickable might’ve been a better fit for this but I see why they chose us and I’m glad they did. While I next-to-never make physical MOCs, I enjoy doing them through LDD so I briefly thought about doing this— than I realized that the subject is micro-scale models of locations. While my mom is an architect, I don’t have much of an interest in building these or buying ones from the Architecture. All the more power to anyone who wants to enter this. ;)
Are Lego Digital Designer builds accepted and can one make their own world from Lego world builder for this competition, or does it have to be someone else's?
So, if I understand correctly, we can either pick something from real life or choose one of the ‘worlds’ in the World Builder site as our thing to build. Buuut, as far as I can tell those are 142 pages of random concepts submitted by a massive amount of people all over the world, and not all of them have the same quality standards. So how would one be able to just select one and move on, if there’s that insanely many and they’re, in most cases, not even more than a rough idea to begin with? Then I could just as well submit my own fiction universe and build off of that instead of browsing for the perfect match, right? I mean, I’d love to do that, but it seems a little whacky. The only remaining challenge at that point would be the ‘microscale-only’ rule of the competition.
Meh.
Another bit of social media nonsense.
@Huw have you been able to read/find an answer to my previous comment yet? I would like to know as soon as possible, because I don’t have that much time to build so I’d rather start right away :) Thanks!

I think the easiest and best thing is to build something from real life, something that the judges are likely to recognise at first glance. I'm not one of the judges AFAIK!

Right, thank you! I assume my theory is correct then, but yeah, just building something that already exists in full form (unlike the concepts of WB) does seem like a much simpler and more effective method.
Not joining the competition but sounds like fun!
Has there ever been a contest that accepts Twitter entries? It's the only social media I have and I'm not keen on supporting F*cebook, so I will never make an Instagr*m.
@Huw, is there another way to enter the contest besides using Instagram? Thanks!
