Titanic

©2021 LEGO Group

LEGO has just unveiled a model of the luxurious but ill-fated ocean liner which, at 1.35m long, dwarfs all that has gone before:

10294 Titanic
Rated 18+, 9,090 pieces
€629.99, $629.99, £569.99, AU$999.99, CA$799.99
Available to order at LEGO.com from 1st November.

The LEGO Group has revealed an authentic replica of the most famous ship of all time, the RMS Titanic. For the first time, fans can now recreate the luxury liner in detailed LEGO brick form, 110 years since it was launched in Belfast in 1911.

At 1.35m in length, the LEGO Titanic is one of the longest and largest LEGO models to date, made up of 9,090 pieces, making it a truly immersive building challenge for LEGO fans and budding historians alike.

As well as its sheer size, the Titanic was known for its unrivalled grandeur, which has been faithfully captured in the set. Beneath the unmistakable exterior of the LEGO Titanic, there are several interior rooms to explore including the First-Class grand staircase which spans six decks and the Jacobean-style dining saloon which was located on the ship’s D deck.

The Titanic was also renowned for its unparalleled speed, outclassing other ships of the era, and in the lower decks, fans will find a replica of the state-of-the-art engine room.

Mike Psiaki, design master at the LEGO Group commented: “At the time of its launch the Titanic was the pinnacle of nautical engineering, the largest moving vehicle ever created. It has been an incredible journey to recreate this iconic vessel from LEGO bricks, using blueprints created over a century ago.

“Designing the LEGO Titanic with such a focus on immense detail and scale, but also accuracy, has allowed us to create one of the most challenging building experiences to date. We know brick builders and ship enthusiasts of all ages will love building the set and displaying it in their homes.”

At over 1.3m long, the LEGO Titanic set is perfect for display and comes with a unique plaque with the ship’s name. This impressive set is available for pre-order from 1st November and general sale from 8th November from LEGO Stores and LEGO.com.

It's absolutely beautiful... Too bad I can't afford it

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I find it funny that they have it open in the front quarter and the back quarter Everything they can do to make sure it doesn't split in the middle.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Wow, that’s a pretty impressive model!
Funny reuse of the typewriter buttons for the plaque

Gravatar
By in United States,

That is... Slightly large.

Gravatar
By in Switzerland,

I've always wondered why Lego did not release its version of the ship...

Gravatar
By in United States,

The detail inside does look impressive, and the price is definitely fair, but far outside of my range for sure

Gravatar
By in United States,

Needs a large box of trans blue and white bricks.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Also, it'll look great next to the Ghostbusters Firehouse.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Holy....shhhhhhugar!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Too bad there’s no iceberg along with an alternative configuration in its broken condition like with Pirates of Barracuda Bay, although I understand why they didn’t include this for obvious reasons.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So large it comes with not just one, not two, but THREE brick separators??

Gravatar
By in United States,

A childhood favorite part of history, now captured in Lego form. Would love to have it, but $630 is a lot of scratch. Not saying the price isn’t justified, it’s just personally hard to justify purchasing.

Gravatar
By in France,

This is the set I always dreamed to have. I remember when it was not selected on Lego Idea and I was crushed. Better late than never.

I think this will be the only $300+ set I will ever buy.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Hooray, sausages for anchors!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

We're going to need a bigger wallet

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

First set to come with three brick separators?

Huh, good catch! I assume this will be so you can do the new ‘Build Together!’ thing that LEGO has been trying out, since the whole ship is also divided into three sections.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Not going to deny that looks very impressive, although it doesn't really appeal to me.

And, whilst I can understand Star Wars fans dropping around £500+ on a model (I did it myself) there must be a fairly small subset of Titanic fans with that sort of budget to spend on Lego (plus those who buy all big sets).

Gravatar

@huw any special event in our local Lego Southampton store for this??? Any special GWP?

Not that I'm aware of, but there should be given its proximity to its point of departure. I will ask when there tomorrow.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Definitely one of those sets that despite me not being able to afford it or having a big interest in it, I definitely want it. Looks fantastic and is indeed iconic.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Severely missed opportunity for "WARNING: Completed model does not float"

Gravatar
By in United States,

Didn't ever think LEGO would make something like this, which has become inseparable from the tragedy, infamous for how many people died. What's next, the Twin Towers?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Wow, that’s stunning. Compare to Colosseum at a similar piece count and this looks like a much more interesting build.

No grand staircase in one of the interior section does seem like a little bit of a missed opportunity.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Now this is what you call an adult sized set...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

^ There is a grand staircase but it's not really evident.

Maybe in five years when the 25th anniversary of the event comes around

Gravatar

And, there you have it. $1,000 for us Aussies!

Gravatar
By in United States,

These pictures don’t do it justice in terms of size. 53in/1.35m is massive

Lego built the Coliseum, where people fought and were executed. The Sopwith Camel probably shot more than a few people. Realistically, your Knights figures' historical inspiration probably stabbed a lot of people (or died of dyssentery).

It's a historically famous boat. I'm game. (Well, I'm not $629 game. Maybe if they made a mini version.)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Maybe this is a bad idea but an "iceberg" might make a good GWP... too soon??!?!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

This is really great news. Collected a lot of info on this ship in the past. 1.35m is IMPRESSIVE

Also needs to microfig skeletons to put on the bow. (Look, someone here will get this reference.)

Gravatar

What a surprise, wow. Cool to look at in person, I'm sure. But have no interest whatsoever.

Gravatar

I've already got the one by Cobi, but this one looks mighty impressive.
But at that size I simply have no place to display it, so it's a pass from me.

Yeah, after getting the ol' measuring tape out when I read the size in preliminary leaks, I thought "that HAS to be a typo". I'm going to have to lease a warehouse just to build this set!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

She's stunning, and one of the best looking Lego sets to come out in recent years. But the size is just too big for me, I literally have nowhere I could put the finished model :(

Is it just me, or are lego sets getting that little bit too big these days?

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Awesome, TRULY AWESOME but too huge and too expensive for me :(

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think I know what I want for Christmas!!
Lego vouchers from everyone please :-)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

It could change as more people vote, but it looks as if this is pretty well received by the 541 people who voted. Even if not everyone is buying it, it looks like theres some interest in it, only 12 percent simply saying no. Those arent bad numbers, especially considering the price.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is this really what Lego wants to be associated with? A ship that's famous for sinking?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

You need a new option for your poll for "No, it's too big". This isn't necessarily too expensive for what it is, but regardless of the cost, it is definitely too big for me to put anywhere in my house and I imagine many other people are in the same situation.

Honestly I'd prefer one that was 50-60cm long.

Gravatar

Does it come with a door that's big enough for two minifigures, but one minifigure will hog it?

$629 a pop says yes.

Gravatar

Excellent model, one for the lottery-wish list for sure!
As for the letters on the name plaque, I thought it looked like an homage to the telegraph machine used to send out the SOS from the radio room.

Gravatar

I would absolutely love a LEGO Titanic. I absolutely cannot spend $630 on it...

Gravatar
By in Estonia,

Will it have a GWP? A pair of matching scale tugboats? Please?
And a polybag for the VIPs with bricks and tiles to customize the model into a Olympic/Britannic.

Gravatar

Straight to the pool room for this one!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Just finished building the Colosseum.
I really want this. But at £120 more than Colosseum, for only 60 more pieces, that is an expensive one. If it comes with a great GWP, I will make it a day one purchase. If not, I will wait. But definitely buy it at some point.

It'd be rad to see the Nomadic as the ship's tender, especially as it still exists in Belfast (and is well worth a visit for any Titanic fans!). Modifying the ship into the Olympic should be straightforward - just swap out the name tiles and modify the promenade deck - but the Britannic would require replacing the vast majority of the black elements with white so it'd probably go beyond a VIP polybag, it'd likely have as many pieces as a modular building, if not more.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Quite an impressive vessel. A sight to see in LEGO form.

I don't have that money (well I do, but to spend it on a toy seems silly to me), so I'll have to pass on this. I'll pay bills instead.

But the set will be impressive in person whenever someone brings it to a convention.

I watched the movie in theaters, but beyond that I haven't thought much about the ship or event. Quite a sad story indeed and 100 years later, here we are.

And I guess this is just me being judgy, but while not "too soon" the iceberg jokes are in poor taste.

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

Titanic wasn't renowned for its unparalleled speed. The White Star Line who owned her focused on luxury not speed. There were a few others passenger liners like Mauritania and Lusitania that were much faster than Titanic.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Man, I’m torn. It looks beautiful, but I’d never be able to financially recover after it.

Also, this might have been mentioned before, but the source material does seem interesting for a LEGO product, and the fact that it can split into sections seems a little dark.

Gravatar

My intent wasn't to say this is in bad taste. I think it's a great and inspiring model. I was just surprised considering the replacement of the Vegas hotel where the shooting took place in the Architecture set. Though I suppose that since Lego has made WW1 fighter planes, they consider this distant enough in the past to not offend any living person.

A Titanic buff like myself can already see a bunch of inaccuracies, but it still doesn't bring down my excitement for this.

Can't wait to get it.
Will have to contain myself from buying 2 sets, though...'cause the split between the 3rd and 4th funnels is almost too perfectly placed to not make a MOC of the ship sinking.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Calling the Titanic the "most famous ship" of all time is like calling the Challenger the most famous space shuttle of all time. This was a disaster people! If the movie hadn't romanticized its sinking with a fabricated plot, it would never have become immortalized in pop culture. Leave it be, just like the Lusitania and Britannic, and every other maritime tragedy.

There have been 257 sets released this year (so far) equal to or less than $50, excluding Duplo, Dots, Vidiyo, CMF, and Gear. Including all of those, it's 449.

There have been 62 sets released this year $100 or more, and 44 above $100.

That is purely and simply not true, and never has been. Can we please put this idea to rest?

The Titanic was featured in multiple works besides the 1996 movie, including A Night to Remember, The Unsinkable Molly Brown, and Ghostbusters II. It's been a famous story for a very, very long time independent of the Cameron film.

Nope, the Titanic had captured peoples imaginations long before the movie came out. For a start it took decades for the wreck to be found. Many attempts were made too.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Pretty sure this one has been on many people's wanted set for decades, not just years. It's probably better to have also release a smaller titanic set along with this large one so that people can choose, or have both if they have the money. For many people this is far beyond their price range. Even at half the price it would still be beyond many people's range, let alone $630. Maybe something between 1000-3000 pieces would be a better set or as an additional set. They could even make a 500 piece set for around $50 which would be a lot more popular.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

^ Sure and then you'd have a myriad of people complaining about how inaccurate it is and how it is lacking in detail (as some already do about this one). Hard to see how they would do justice to the subject matter on a $50 budget.

It's not going to fit in a Lego city or in the average display cabinet, so it's time to put up it's own shelf.

The fact that Lego retire most sets after two years, means that you have limit time to buy the sets. And I feel that they've sped up releasing a lot of sets to get them out during Covid, I suspect that a number of these sets would've been released in 2022 in normal circumstances.]]

Again, the issue hinges on the meaning of "keep up." If that means "I'm able to buy every set that I'm interested in," I feel like I shouldn't have to explain why that's misguided or even selfish.

The fact that Lego is making too many sets for you to buy every single one of them is decidedly a personal problem and not a Lego problem. Far too many adults haven't grasped the fact that they won't be able to own every toy that they might want.

I also think it's pretty silly that during the pandemic, when they clearly had lowered capacity and weren't able to meet demand, and when vast numbers of people were and are losing their jobs (and thus losing disposable income), that they suddenly just took all of next year's big sets and produced them this year. It takes about two years for a regular set to get from concept to shelves, even longer for massive sets like this. Plus, what's their plan for next year? The idea just doesn't make sense
