LEGO Ideas review results
Posted by Huw,
LEGO has just announced the results of the first 2021 Ideas review!
Find out which, if any, of the 57 projects have passed after the break...
Two projects have passed review, including the one I've been rooting for.
Jazz Quartet by Hsinwei Chi is an awesome piece of work and its success is well deserved:
The Office by Jaijai Lewis (aka LEGO The Office). LEGO state that "It's apparent to us how much desire there has been for a set like this after numerous submissions reaching review over the years. This time we had the opportunity and we jumped on it."
It will certainly need a lot of minifigs to do it justice, but I can't see it coming with 15 or so, as suggested in the submission.
I fear that fans of the UK series will have to swap some out and provide their own David Brent, Tim, Gareth, Dawn and Finchy!
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves by Harry Finkel (aka Hanwasyellowfirst) requires further review. "We will share an update on this project in the next review result announcement in early 2022."
What do you think of the selection? Let us know in the comments.

Keen on the Jazz Quartet
TOTAL DISAPPOINTMENT FOR THE RESULT!
"Jazz Quartet"
"The Office"
and a review of "Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs" ...
Perhaps the only understandable is that of Jazz. The others just don't. Without words. Many more promising projects have been discarded, as usual.
I get it, but still think it's a pity no Castle, Modular or WV-like creations were picked. These have very little interest to me - might be worth looking into WVizing the SnowWhite-set if and when that might become available.
Disappointed with the choices. But my wallet is happy. Won't be spending anything on these sets.
Those sitcom/reality show sets must be selling really well. Jazz Quartet was more or less expected. Neither interests me much, Snow White would though. Hoping it gets through in a reasonable final form.
Can't say I'm exited for these, maybe "Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs" if it makes it, for the bricks...
That will save me money then!
Love the Jazz Quartet, that's a real Ideas set and a great choice. Not worried about the office but I guess it continues the trend for sitcom-based sets, which seem to be popular. Perhaps we could have a Frasier one next? That I would buy.
I like the Jazz one for being different but not a fan of the music so unlikely to buy it (or any of the others).
Really? The office? The succulent garden would have worked so well in Lego's lineup (with the bonsai and everything). Then again, Lego will probably rip that one off down the line, without acknowledging the creator, so that's nothing new.
Ha, this time around Lego listened to me :)
Unless they mess it up completely, I'll be buying the jazz quartet day one! I think it's a really great display model, showing lots of creativity and possibilities. Next to the typewriter it's one of these Ideas set I'm actually excited about in a long while.
I don't care a bit about the office, on the other hand. But that's fine; others can have it :)
The dwarf house looks like a nice build, we'll see about that.

Lego has no reason to pick any of these - they have just released a Castle themed one, while Modulars and WV are ongoing themes.
Really really pleased Jazz Quartet is there.. Classy, unusual, and stunning to look at. Well done Lego Ideas and the designer... Hope the final model manages to keep the natural fluid stance of the figures.
When doing an ideas I always say Marvel, Dc, star wars and Nintendo theses are always a no :( but still wont stop me from submitting my Ideas set haha
I can see the Jazz Quartet being a rather classy Lego set; I can't wait to see the finished product. Not surprised The Office has finally gotten a set, either. Snow White is something I can take or leave: I'm sure Lego would make a good job of it, but they've also covered that kind of ground quite a bit lately.
Seriously more sitcom? Anyway I hope for the Snow White set to be approved!
Love the Jazz Quartet. The Office doesn't do it for me (my kids will love it): Snow white looks like it could be fun.
HOWEVER: If I love every Ideas submission they go-ahead to develop, they are doing it wrong!
I think the Jazz Quartet is going to need a lot of changes to make it stable enough for a set.
I have zero interest in The Office, but it will be interesting if it's popular enough to sell well.
Snow White might turn into a very nice set.
It was entirely predictable that no modular, winter village or castle sets were going to get approved. LEGO do not choose ideas that interfere with existing lines - it's part of the selection criteria. And they've already made it clear there will not be more castle stuff beyond the Creator line.
Well, it is true that the Office has reached 10 000 votes several times, and Lego seems to have good sales from all the other sit com sets. They aren't for me, but they seem to have appeal. The Jazz Quartet should be really interesting. I hope some version of Snow White comes out. Thanks for the news!
Hey, if the office was picked, there's still hope for "Frasier"
The Jazz is nice, will have to wait for final product and price.
But... very disappointing that the VIA train wasn't picked. Show more train love, Lego!
The Office… a set that nobody, not even the hardest of hardcore LEGO fans need or even really want.
They all look great, not what I expected. Does save me some money as none are for me.
I'm happy for the Jazz Quartet. It's not my music genre, but I really liked it. I don't know if I'll buy it though; too muche expenses already.
I'm sorry for Asterix and Obelix. I thought that they would sell well to grown-ups. Maybe some conflicting IP?
I feel as though 54 projects cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happened.
*looks at list of projects that made it through*
I have a bad feeling about this...
The Office is awful, give me a Frasier set any day
Happy with the Jazz Quartet, it’s so dynamic.
Not familiar with the US Office, but I’m a sucker for the sitcom sets so I’ll probably end up with it.
I hope Snow White gets through the hurdles (including I’m sure the Disney licensing) but I have a funny feeling Lego will make it a minidoll version, although I badly want a minifigure version.
There were a few strong designs this time round but delighted Jazz got through, really looking forward to seeing that. But then I am also still waiting for the Globe...
I don't see the point in passing yet another set based on an old sitcom. The Friends ones currently a shelf warmer at my local Smyths with a reduced price and a dozen on the shelfs. They've still got a bunch of the Stranger Things set too which shows just because its a somewhat popular show that gets the support, doesn't mean it'll sell.
The Jazz set has zero appeal for me, and i think its going to be incredibly niche for the people who do buy it as I don't think the overlap between LEGO fans and jazz fans is going to be very large.
Snow White set is very much going to depend on Disney and what they say... which makes me wonder why LEGO lets so many licensed sets into review? You can pretty much guarantee that if its a set for a license they don't have it'll not get made.
Happy for the winners, but yet another "nope thx" for me. Not interested in building humans with Lego, and The Office is yet another of these similar TV show sets and will be very expensive.
Had high hopes for sets like the Viking ship or the succulents, bookends or marine life, but sadly Lego took the familiar road again.
The problem with The Office is that it will depict the US version which, while mildly entertaining, is nowhere near as good as the original UK version. Many other countries have their own versions as well, so the set, as LEGO will model it, will appeal primarily to one nation only.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Office
Can't Lego just provide us with a large "Sitcom 20 in 1 set", so everyone will be happy, and they don't need to sacrifice all these other nice ideas? I like the Jazz Quartet, and even the Snowwhite. But so much is discarded for what I assume commercial reasons, which is a shame.
The more sets Lego produces, the more projects are in the Ideas review, the more strange Lego choices are, the less I'm interested in it.

Not a fan of The Office myself, but literally everyone I know who does like it, even American's, say the UK version is better. So basing it off the US version seems like another poor choice to me.
Yes!!! The one I really wanted!!! Congratulation to Jazz Quartet by Hsinwei Chi!!!

I'm active in quite a few, very different internet communities made up of people from all around the world, and when the topic of The Office comes up, it's always the US one. Obviously that's just my personal experience, but from where I seat, no matter if it's better or worse (haven't seen the UK one, so can't say), the US version is definitely the most popular and recognizable, and in my opinion will appeal too many more nations than the UK version would.

Sure they don’t need to do another castle related thing so soon, but after all the demand for (and anger about the limited quantity of) the castle in the forest, I think picking the castle project here that was designed by the same guy would have been a good choice.
Besides, ignoring the license the Snow White cottage is much more similar to the blacksmith shop than the castle is.
What a disappointed...
At least the jazz band seems interesting
For the other 2 project I don't care (and "the office" I just finished watching it all the nine season recently)

I know it won’t happen, but the dream is 2 lots of figures with the set for a UK/US version. The setting is fairly generic in that it could be Wernham Hogg or Dunder Mifflin.
I enjoyed both the US and UK Offices, so no qualms about the nationality of it. What I find weird is that people actually get credited with thinking of the idea for it - all the Office submissions I've seen have been very basic and quite frankly uninspiring builds. Lego should just have gone straight to NBC and asked for the licence rather than considering it an 'Ideas' project - whilst this might annoy people who submit it, they don't own the IP.
Love the Jazz quartet, couldn't care less about another tv-series set.
Disappointed that again no trains made it through. Was really hoping for the Lisbon tram.
Oh well...
How Lego Dark Ages begin.
We’re going to run out of sitcoms people actually care about at some point right? Or at least get to some ones I actually like to watch?
I'm happy about these results - because they help me stick to my decision of no more LEGO sets from 2022 onwards (or at least as few as possible).
I hate Jazz as a music style, and even though the submission looks awesome from a technical and aesthetic standpoint I have simply no connection to the subject matter.
I love The Office, but the UK version. Not interested the least in the US characters, plus the build looks as boring as the original The Office set does by design.
Incidentally, I would be so LMAO if this The Office set would go the same route as the Adventure Time set did, i.e. being hyped before as being so attractive to fans yet failing to sell even at 60% off in the end.
All the other sitcom sets are shelf warmers over here as well and among the only Ideas sets to be heavily discounted all the time.
Snow White, if indeed chosen, will certainly find its fans. I'm not one of them and that's totally ok.
I figured from the get-go that the submissions I would have bought day one are far from what LEGO wants to produce. Whatever. Moving on.
jazz quartet is cool, wonder what the final version will look like. ditto snow white.
the best thing about "the office" passing? we finally will stop seeing the f*****g things show up on ideas submissions
I don't think one needs to be a fan of Jazz to appreciate what the Jazz Quartet set does - it presents Miniland style brick built figures so prominently for the first time in my memory in a visually striking set, hopefully exposing less experienced fans to new ways Lego can be used to create interesting models and depictions of people. I'm not a jazz fan, but if the set has the same character and look as the submission, I would very well be tempted. I'm super happy and surprised it got selected.
And as someone who can see the Forth Bridge from my family's home I am a little disappointed it didn't get selected, but in all honesty didn't think it would.
I do like the jazz quartet and will be setting it up next to my fender strat. Unfortunate for the others I liked . But better for my pocketbook.
Pretty satisfying result, to me:
1) a franchise that reached 10K multiple times and by different people got through
2) a beautiful non-licenced set made it through too
3) huge batch review with more than one winner
I should note that I wasn't looking forward to any particular project. I am interested in castle or that viking ship, but I just know that they are not going to pick those (because Medieval Blacksmith, and the Creator line), and *if* they did, the set produced would probably be too large for me to purchase anyway.
Lego has increasingly become a minifigure-collecting hobby instead of a construction toy, which is why I strongly dislike the Office getting picked. I do love that the jazz quartet was picked, it looks very creative. More interesting buildings and constructions, less Marvel, Star Wars and collectible minifigures, please. But I figure I'm in the minority, looking at sales.
Whoa! I LOVE jazz! It's wonderful to see the Jazz Quartet being made into a set. It did catch my eye in the last post but I simply didn't have the energy to root for any one set among so many.
Congratulations to the winners!

What you described as a problem I get as an advantage. The US version is way more involving than the original UK one and is on pair with the humor and memorable gags. And everywhere in the world except UK the US version is vastly more popular judging by the "wars" of streaming services to have it exclusively. I am VERY happy to get The Office in Ideas form aswel as the Jazz Quartet. Both projects were the ones i supported.
IDEAS - Music, Sitcoms and Disney - boring.
Now, I understand Pirates and Castle got their big sets in 2020/2021 and there's still some hope 1 castle gets passed over to the Bricklink program, but the main issue with the 2021 Castle are lack of figures and horses, or lack of minifig/horse smaller sets.
Ridiculous.
I would actually have given The Office the least chances to get an official LEGO set, but of course it got an official LEGO set. :)
Seems LEGO just loves licenses and loves the money they can get out of it.
A slap in the face for all other contributors who did actually creative entries.
So poor.

Very true. I have no interest in it (will probably be the first Ideas set I skip in quite some time) but I recognize it is a hugely popular show.
I’m glad my favorite of this bunch, the Jazz group, is being made.
Snow White would look so good next to Winnie The Pooh
I'm wondering how the licensing is going to work here.
The actual ownership of The Office IP as I can find it is with the BBC, suggesting NBC are themselves a licensor.
And maybe Lego are aiming for a non-licensed version of Snow White. It's a traditional fairy tale and Disney only seem to own certain rights to the name associated with broadcast media.
Seems like the lawyers are going to be busy.
@CCC said:

If some twitch streamer with 10-50k viewers would send them to IDEAS, any project probably could reach 10k in hours, like the goose game, votes really don't mean as much as they used to.
Princess Bride would have been one of my most anticipated ever Lego sets, so obviously I’m disappointed. Would also have been very happy with the post office or literally any of the castles, heck, even that farm set. The jazz quartet is a fine model and well deserving, just probably not for me unless the final execution lives up to its potential and I can find it on a sale.
As for the Office... I know how much success the Friends set has had outside usual Lego fans, so I can’t say I blame them, but for me it’s a total flatline. I’m sure it will sell well, but I would have probably preferred literally any other submission.
At least Snow White is still in the running. Not a huge fan of the film, but the model has some crossover potential for a Castle village.

I agree. I'm in the UK and have enjoyed both the UK and US versions. The US one branches off and becomes a very different show. Both have their merits, but I have enjoyed the US more than the UK one. I've definitely watched it more often.
I know lots of people that have watched the US version so I imagine the set will be popular. I will definitely get it if it has a similar level of detail to the Friends one.
Gutted the Krusty Burger set didn't make it though ??
Jazz Quartet is meh and the whole sit com thing is overdone. Snow White does look stunning though so would love that to pass.
Wow. Sorry, but nope. Do like Snow White though, that cottage is super cute.
Sitcom sets are the worst thing to have happened in Lego-verse in years. IDEAS started out with a few licensed sets, but then there was a wonderful period of great original sets – or at least licensed ones that were still creative (Yellow Submarine etc.).
Now, it seems like every review round we get another boring square box of pop-culture references for the kind of consumer who has a shelf for funko pops.
Big disappointment for my part, but then again it's becoming rather common. The number of sets passing the 10k bar is growing bigger and bigger each time with some truly awesome ideas and they decide to release yet another sitcom filming set similar to Friends or Big Bang Theory (and another that came out recently I forgot the name of).
The Jazz set is cool in itself but I don't like the blocky nature of the players. Sure it's Lego, you should expect blockiness but given this isn't gonna be a toy really, more like a display piece, I hope they improve on the design somewhat.
There are so many abandoned castles now in the list of rejected ideas sets it's starting to look like a Scottish landscape...lol

LEGO produces 700+ new different sets EVERYyear. Tell us more how a couple of sitcom sets that were chosen by thousands of other lego fans have ruined your experience in Lego-verse.

Hell's Kitchen would be a good mix of a Brit / Scottish (Ramsay) and 20 seasons of the US version and 4 seasons of UK version, while it kept the kitchen designs fairly similar over a 17+ year runtime by now (season 20 was filmed in 2019 and just broadcast)
I'd be interested in a LEGO version of that.
so many sitcom sets and once again no red dwarf one :< shame
but from all the sets that were rejected I hoped the most for Asterix and Obelic and Baba Yaga but they were probably too fun for Lego to consider :/
we need another boring sitcom

That's because the sets sell...money talks. I used to buy almost all the ideas sets up to 2019...now its dropped drastically.
Overall disappointing choices for me personally, will probably be the first time I skip completely buying anything from this wave.
I'd be interested in the snowwhite if it's the original version, not a Licensed Disney-Fied version.
The snow white story is over 200 years old, and was published more then 110 years before Walt Disney was even Born.
Couldn't be more happy to see The Office finally approved!
I really hope Snow White is approved later, it would be great too.
Pretty happy with both of these -- the jazz quartet because of its creativity and great execution, and The Office it deserves a place in the sitcoms collection that TLG seems to be going for. It's also worth noting that the US Office is one of the most watched series on Netflix, so as much as I love the UK original, it's been surpassed in terms of international recognition
I love the jazz quartet, but I’m afraid the final product will not look like that at all. As for The Office, I couldn’t care less.
Hopefully BL Designer Program will be continued to allow the castles come to fruition there eventually!
I’d be more hyped for jazz quartet if it was a set of mini figs & a stage. As it is, pass. And I never cared for The Office. But Snow White if they can get it sorted, yes!
"It's apparent to us how much desire there has been for a set like this after numerous submissions reaching review over the years."
Ha, I think they threw this line in just to anger the castle fans.
Where’s all the IT crowd basements and Only Fools & Horses flats… maybe 2025 at this rate
These results show the best and worst of Lego Ideas:
Jazz Quartet is an original idea, clever and skillful build, and brings us something we wouldn't have gotten from standard Lego themes.
The Office is an unoriginal idea, nothing interesting about the build, and it's something we've already gotten from Lego.
Still no love for trains… That’s so disappointing.
No, no & no. Saves money for the City moon base =)
The one thing we have learned about the LEGO Ideas Review process is that you cannot predict the LEGO Ideas Review process.
Not excited by the winners at all.
To echo others, hopefully my faves will make it through to the BL designer process
Well, nothing lost.
Edit: and money saved

Yes, otherwise it would diminish my slight interest in that set completely, but it will probably turn out to be the Disney version...
The jazz quartet is interesting and unusual, and I'm looking forward to seeing what comes out of the design process.
I bought the first Friends set, and the Big Bang Theory for a relative, and have no more interest in any more licensed sitcoms, but I'm happy for those that like it.
Actually I'm beginning to think Lego should split licensed Ideas vs original ideas and review and produce them separately. To me the original ideas are the best.....

I get what you're saying but LEGO the business probably loves it. I'd imagine those are some of the top performers out of the IDEAS theme. The idea of licensed sets in IDEAS is actually what brought me out of my dark ages with sets like Back to the Future and Ghostbusters and now I spend way too much on it.
I'm not surprised by this. People are still wanting sitcom-based sets. I knew the jazz one was going to be selected. I do love the Jazz Quartet.
Funnily enough, it was while reading through the last lot of Ideas rejections that kinda killed Lego for me.
Guessing, at this point, The Office isn't released until early 2023. Will there still be demand for it at that point? Who knows!
What LEGO doesn't understand is that a lot of people like the *idea* (pardon the pun) of these sets-- lots of social media love for a Seinfeld apartment set ("OMG guys did you see this??"), but that doesn't necessarily translate into people rushing out to actually buy it.
So happy that the Jazz Quartet made it!
Well, I guess you could say I’m Jazzed for that quartet set. ;)

IDEAS stood out among the line-up because it allowed for large, AFOL-focused sets with *fresh ideas*. There is nothing *fresh* about yet another TV show diorama.
Sure, there's plenty of sets coming out year after year but what, in your opinion, is another series that comes close in concept to what IDEAS was like circa 2017-2019?
And yes, the sets were chosen by thousands – I'm not deluded enough not to realize there's plenty of demand for the Office set. But my question is: why does it need to be an IDEAS set in the first place? If there's such high demand for Friends, Seinfeld, TBBT, etc., why not simply launch those as separate series akin to The Simpsons – and keep IDEAS as a place for genuine, unabashed creativity?
I dunno, it just feels sad when sets borne entirely of their authors' imaginations or that offer a twist on the usual licensed set (check out that map of Middle-Earth!) lose out so something so blandly predictable.
I am Jazzed for that Quartet! I've been a jazz fan since way back, so definitely getting that one.
With all the sitcoms they've been doing, I'd love to see Lego do a set based on a classic sitcom from the '60s or '70s. Maybe even the '50s. (I might well buy an I Love Lucy set.)
If the Snow White set gets made, it might look cool next to 21315. You could at least use the minifigs from both sets for fairy tale crossovers.
First time my predictions were completely wrong. Congrats to the builders! My 'The Office' comment aged like milk and this review changes a lot of the rules. Primarily 2:
1. Resubmitted Ideas CAN be selected (Snow White and The Office)
2. Even if another company has an IP, LEGO can potentially select it through negotiations.

Agreed!
I was so worried that jazz quartet would get relegated to BrickLink designer program. It belongs up with old fishing store and treehouse
Jazz Quarter I can understand as it's an original submission and a bit different.
The Office however, I fear is just money chasing because they know it'll sell to those fans. But otherwise it wouldn't have got through as it would have been deemed to similar to other sets released previously (apartments in general).
Paying attention to Ideas projects and voting is pointless. Best to just wait to see what gets approved and then decide if you want to buy it or not at that point.
No point in paying any attention until then as you will just be disappointing if (or when) a set that gets the votes doesn’t proceed.
Better to not even know the Ideas project ever existed in the first place.
I'm interested in the snow white and seven dwarfs. Hopefully it will get granted. I would have wished for the Tut mask, but its clear the modulars would be rejected as none have succeeded.

The original version of the Office is an unparalleled work of art and an unflinching character study. It rightly launched the brilliant careers or Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant.
However the US version is vastly more popular, having been more of a long form sitcom with lots of “meme” content and more schmaltzy loveable characters. So I do think it makes more sense as a set in this vein rather than the UK version.
Doesn’t matter much to me as I’m not a fan of any of the sitcom sets personally. Also, both settings seem quite uninspired for a set design, given that they literally were filmed in drab office buildings. Every submission of the Office was an equally boring rats’ maze style construction that is just not a good use of this medium.
Finally, LEGO and Universal getting closer together this was a slam dunk property for them to license and sell.
Anyone thinking that this wasn't want people wanted. Clearly the amount of submissions and how fast they came about show that's not true. Also, with it being as popular as ever, ESPECIALLY, with young people, this is a no-brainer. Before it went off of netflix, it was the most successful non-netflix created show at the time.
If Big Bang and Seinfeld can get made, this was inevitable.
Though just an extra note on my thoughts for the sets.
The Jazz Band looks like fun! I could see this adding a ton of personality wherever it’s set up. Might be fun to have next to a Bluetooth speaker or record player.
The Office is... another sitcom set. I think this one really just depends on whether or not you like the show. I personally don’t watch it, so it’s just not appealing to me. The build itself is... an office. I could complain about it being bland, but I don’t know what more could be done to spice up an office space.
The seven dwarves set looks nice! Might be too expensive for my budget, but I can see going the same route as the Winnie the Pooh set. Could also be handy for some non-Disney fantasy settings now that I think about it.
But yeah. While I’m disappointed that Metroid didn’t make the cut, that’s just a personal thing. Congrats to the designers and hope those asking for these sets get to enjoy them.
I didn’t think they’d pick the Office this go round because there were two separate submissions. I feel bad for the other person who submitted it, because they got no credit in the blog post. Then again, neither did the other 4 or 5 creators who got it to 10k previously. Maybe when the set is made they’ll all get a shoutout in the manual. I’m happy that The Office fans are getting their set finally, but I personally am not interested.
Anyone buying that The Office-set has no joy in their lives.
Supported both
Ok, now do The Home Alone House reveal!!!
Hmmmmmmm.....
Don't mind the jazz quartet.
Truly do not understand this obsession with doing TV show models though. Is it because they have money to burn so just want to pay for the rights to yet another show? - It is just a single level building with a bunch of mini figures, I can do that myself.
SW and the Dwarfs - meh
Out of the 57, I think there were so many better choices.
In true UK Dragons Den style, "I'm out".
Oh look, finally, The Office! Only took them like 5 or so 10K submissions to get the message.

It is because they sell like hot cakes, plain and simple.
As a music teacher and trumpet player, I am OVERJOYED that the Jazz Quartet is picked. I've never watched The Office but I will say I'm milquetoast on yet another sitcom IDEAS set. They sell, though, that's for sure.
Jazz Quartet will be on my desk at school on Day 1. Curious to see the finished product.

I wouldn't count on it. TLG have proven time and time again that they are perfectly capable of producing one flop after another.
Look at their annual reports to see what actually sells and accounts for their massive profits.
If their cash cows like Ninjago, City, Technic, Star Wars or Harry Potter wouldn't rake in the money that they do, TLG would never waste resources on potential shelf warmers that are more of an experiment like this The Office set (or entire theme experiments that tanked, like Vidiyo, Hidden Side etc.).
I can totally picture the board meeting that greenlit this decision:
"What the heck. Do it. If it happens to sell, great. If it doesn't, who cares, at least it will have shut up future submissions on the subject".
Stop all of the complaining. If you don't like it then don't buy it. The Office for the win!
One of the positive things I see from this selection is in the description of the Office set. They are aware of the demand, and therefore will look into it more. While I personally don't care for sitcom sets, it means they are also aware of the ton of modular sets proposed through ideas, and they might push the line forward a bit more. They could easily please AFOLs and release two per year instead of one. And with the Lantern Festival, the release of Ninjago City Gardens, and other modular-adjacent sets like the Haunted House, that might be them reaching out.
jazz quartet is really a good model, original and perfect to the new way lego is following of stand alone lego for exibit in a living room. The office is nice because there are a lot of minifig but where is the building complexity? There are proposal that are really more complex and could be more funny to build.
The Dwarf house is better even if I don't really need something like that. Why, I wonder, Lego doesn't select again
something like the old fishing house?
Amused that my prediction in the previous post was accurate regarding the first two ideas... I should have bet money...! Snow White is a surprise but would look great next to the Ideas Blacksmith.

we are literally arguing over licensed plastic, over something we knew eventually was going to happen... do you know how many times the office got 10k votes and still failed?, like 3 or 4 times, to say that the people that are going to buy the set have no joy in their lives, is like saying that the people that are going to buy the medival castle (if there were) ideas set are a bunch of morons that need to get over there nostalgia but it's not true, a lot of good people want an ideas castle as do I, keep your shitty opinions to yourself, I don't want to hear them, the other people on this site probably don't either.if you don't like a set, you don't have to buy it, its your money, not mine.
I don’t know how I feel about this. So many great Ideas get lost in these massive votings. It seems the odds of getting your set approved is to make either something completely niche, something sitcom related or a nasa thing.
The Jazz Quartet is artistically very well done and you have to look twice to make sure it is made of Lego. I like the roof in snow white, but it looks like a complex and detailed build for those into fairy-tales, whereas Claus toys, house of chocolate or other buildings would have had a far wider appeal at probably a similar price with a far more interesting detailed internal layout. The office is probably one of the most uninteresting out of all 57 which anyone can build themselves from a spares bin, whereas the Bently Blower, Chitty, Polar Express train and Venice tram would be far more difficult to do.

Maybe they'll surprise us, and issue a version that builds both the UK and US version.

I do look at their annual reports. However, I read nothing into a small theme that has only 3 or 4 sets per year is not among the top five selling themes.
Do you think the decision to produce another FRIENDS set was because the first was an utter flop? Or might it be that it sold well, and to people that don't normally buy LEGO.
"
And a real Office lego set is going to blow the Friends Ideas set out of the water in terms of popularity and sales. People don't understand how popular this show is for some reason. Friends set got me out of the dark ages in 2020, and can only imagine how many new lego fans this will bring in.

You don't like the IDEA sets then don't buy them. Really simple."
First off, there is no need for that kind of tone in this discussion.
Secondly, that is a whole bouquet of assumptions you're making even though you could instead focus on the things I *did say*.
And finally, "don't like it - don't buy it"? Come on, that's such a cheap cop-out. Just because I'm not buying it doesn't mean I'm forbidden from sharing my thoughts on something.
Another Ideas review results announcement, another barrage of "I have no idea why this massively popular IP that I personally don't care about got approved but not the incredibly niche and complex model that I voted for"
(and then when the more niche models like blacksmith and typewriter ARE produced, it's always "why is this final model not the exact way I want it????")
it's like Groundhog Day every review cycle.
If sitcom sets are a thing then Lego should class them as an evergreen and break them out from Ideas - same as minecraft - and then leave space in Ideas for other original submissions.
The Jazz Band is not my thing at all, but I can admire the originality, skill and artistry that’s gone into it and it’s those elements that Lego Ideas should be encouraging
Results are unsurprising. The Jazz set is beautiful and really should be what Ideas is for. The Office makes sense due to number of times at 10k and the success of sitcom-based sets, even if I think they're dumb. Seven Dwarves also makes sense given TLG's existing relationship with Disney, I just hope for some unique and useful torsos for castle from it. May even be a good parts pack!
Jazz Quartet all the way!!! The set is simply magnificent, a true work of art.
The Office: meh, I've had enough of these sitcom sets, even though this one has an interesting workplace interior. Many other sets deserved more attention than this, though.
Once again, LEGO has let us all down and ruined our hobby and made terrible decisions and something else bad and something else bad. A dark day for us all. I think I will be qui....Squirrel.
Man... I was 100% sure that one of those bookends would make it.
Jazz I understand, Snow White I guess sort of makes sense, but the Office?
I like that show, but it isn't 'kid-friendly'.

The Jazz quartet is very impressive. I'm glad it made it through since it was an original idea and so many liked it, but I probably won't get it because I have limited display space in my little home and I'm not into jazz.
Regarding the Office, I would like it if Lego just came out with their own line of sitcom sets because I've grown weary of all the TV show submissions. Creativity and uniqueness is what draws me to Ideas and I personally don't find TV show vignettes very creative.
I'm most excited about Snow White, as someone very into medieval/fantasy it just floats my boat. The Blacksmith set is probably my favorite set, and this has similar vibes - plus with dwarves!
I'm happy with The Office and hopeful for Snow White. Just meh on the Jazz set. But does "Further Review" generally result in a yes? Or have their been instances of a no?

Charlie and the Chocolate factory :(
Also, I've seen reference to it in these comments, but what it "WV"?
The Jazz Quartet really seems like it fits what Ideas should be about and I'm excited about the Snow White House if it has a nice interior.
However, I don't get The Office selection. Ok fine, they're going to make a ton of money and that's why it was picked, but the office itself is drab and dreary because it's an office, it reminds me of work, and they're never going to please everyone with the minifig selection. They won't do both the US and UK, and we'll only get a handful of characters. I'm guessing we get maybe 6? They really should have done a CMF series...
I was hoping for “ It's apparent to us how much desire there has been for a set like this after numerous submissions reaching review over the years. This time we had the opportunity and we jumped on it” on a castle set. Surely there has been more castle submissions than the office
Not the office. I feel like you can find an office moc on any Lego site. Office mocs are so stupidly popular.
Seriously? I guess no Zelda. It had more potential than most of these others!
Same here, I've given up on them.
Not surprised with The Office, am disappointed that The Polar Express and SLS didn't get through. We could use another steam locomotive set and The Polar Express would be very popular during the holidays. The SLS would also look great next to the Saturn V and would help encourage interest into Nasa's Artemis program.

At this point a smaller Castle accesoires / Figure / Horses set would be nicer then waiting 2 years for some IDEAS or Bricklink Designer Program.
Not much wrong with the 3-in-1 Castle, great parts pack, but it lacks figures, horses or different faction.
IDEAS Blacksmith isn't a bad set either, but I think Castle fans would want figures, horses or different faction in smaller sets right now, and not just big buildings with few figures. (even while the Falcon figures are nice)

The sitcom sets aren't for me, but it's certainly understandable that a company would want to release a product that it knows will be "stupidly popular" among its users.
Shocked and thrilled to see The Office finally approved! Really surprised by the negativity, sitcom sets are a big seller, and The Office itself has reached review like five times? I assume the only reason it wasn't approved before was some licensing issue.
Jazz Quartet is a very nice build, and was my number one pick to pass. It's super dynamic, with a unique style and design. Not interested personally, but I think it'll be very popular.
Snow White was also on my list, it's a good build and pretty reasonable size. I'm guessing the delay is due to licensing trouble. Technically Disney is already a license by Lego, along with Snow White herself in the Princess theme. So I think the only question is whether they can approve a project for the Snow White film on its own.

Winter Village
Yeah. Jazz Quarter is a day one buy.
I genuinely thought The Castle of Brickwood Forest had a huge chance of getting approved after what happened with the Bricklink Design Program. Guess not. :/
As a Band teacher, I'm ecstatic about the Jazz Quartet. As a teacher of teenagers, I can say good luck finding The Office set when it is released. It is hugely popular with that age group. My students regularly play the office theme song and there are always Dunder Mifflin memes floating around.
I'm really hoping the train bookends hits the Bricklink designer program.
Now that The Office is out of they way, brace yourself for all the Squid Game submissions...

Or these gigantic sets either. They seem to look first at something unique and out of the box (Globe, Piano, Guitar, Van Gogh, Jazz Band), then the other commonalities - something IP that can make some money that can grab non-AFOL attention (Sitcom-related for adults, NASA, Children's TV shows such as Winnie the Pooh and Seasame Street), nostalgia (Blacksmith and Pirates) and then ones they hope can become full series or have spin-offs (Friends, Minecraft, Sonic).
They also don't pick something similar to ones either just issued or waiting to be issued. My favorite out of this was JRR Tolkien Map, but it's too close to the Van Gogh-style to have gotten picked. Why in the next review, there are only going to be max a few again - WAY to many gigantic and modular looking sets.
I'm torn. On the one hand It's about time LEGO Finally made The Office given it's been through review like 3-5 times at this point, but on the other hand LEGO has started a proper "sitcom" subtheme at this point with Friends Apartments and Queer Eye and it could've easily been put into that.
I'm not to familiar with the entries this time around but glancing through I would've loved the Portal set, the Metroid one looks cool and it's a franchise I've been meaning to get into, the Viking Oreship has been on my radar a while, and while I know it's not as popular as it used to be I still freakin' love Among Us!
I am sure many a deserving submission missed out but happy to see Jazz Quartet making it through. No interest in The Office as I don't think I have ever watched an episode. I loved Seinfeld but haven't even bought that set. I think I'm just tired of that whole sitcom sets formula. It's working for LEGO so awesome for those of you who love it!
Great to see Snow White get a chance. Although honestly would have loved to see another something original get passed through. We get enough licensed sets with regular LEGO already.

Except for the tens of thousands of people that continuously voted for it through multiple review stages...
The Office finally getting through after multiple submissions gives me hope for the Greendale Study Room from Community. IIRC, the creator said he was planning on resubmitting
Well, this is good news for my wallet, but disappointing. If SWatSD gets picked, Ill probably buy that for my moms collection, but I wont be getting anything else. Its nice that the Jazz Quartet got picked, Im not interested, but absolute respect for that build! The Office is another boring sitcom, not even a classic like Friends or Seinfeld. I am very disappointed that we didnt get the map of Middle Earth, but then again, I wasnt even expecting it. Also, no Chitty is too bad, that was a very cool build! Again, and probably forever, RIP LOTR.
The Ghibli and Zelda sets got skipped over again… sorry, Miyazaki and Miyamoto, I don’t think your stuff is gonna get the green light.
I thought y’all wanted a set based on The Office, that’s what people said when they announced the Queer Eye one.
Bingo!
I've got:
'Why didn't they make Zelda?'
'They should make Classic castle/pirates/space instead'
'Lego steals ideas and doesn't credit'
'Why did they reject this [modular building/winter village/other set in line Lego came up with and still makes once a year]?'
and "[Set X] isn't selling because I saw one in a shop near me once"
I'm surprised. Some folks were certain that "The Office" would never be accepted because a competitor held the license. I guess something's changed, or two corporations have the license now (it's happened before, as other commentators have pointed out).
Kudos to "Jazz Quartet," and I'll probably be buying it, depending on how TLG modifies it to their specifications. It's too bad that "The Office" (negative and positive comments herein) has drawn most of the attention today, since "Jazz Quartet" is being largely overshadowed at the moment by "The Office" also making it through. (Yes, I know -- the irony isn't lost on me -- I'm also adding a comment about "The Office" here.)
My (older) kids are fans of "The Office" (U.S. version, though I prefer the U.K. version) but I can't see myself buying such a bland office space, filled with several cynical character-minifigures. (I shouldn't complain, though, since I bought "Seinfeld," with a somewhat bland apartment set and five cynical character-minifigures.)
I do wonder, however, what becomes of the many other "The Office" submissions that were rejected (both in this current IDEAS cycle and in prior cycles)? I'm sure that those other submission-creators might be miffed that they'll be missing out on any accolades (financially and bragging-rights) with their "The Office" set finally making it to fruition as a LEGO IDEAS set. Probably they all had to sign some sort of NDA (non-disclosure agreement) and can't legally pursue any grievance against TLG that, even though they submitted their "The Office" idea earlier (and, in some ways, might even be better than the winning submission), they can't do anything about it now, right? Just wondering...

Agreed. Don't get me wrong, I'll buy all the Blacksmith, Castle 3-in-1, and BL medieval sets I can, but at the end of the day the bricks needed to build castle and medieval are readily available. Just need the minifigure prints for factions and peasants, royalty, horses, barding, ect. And I think the only way we will get all of that is a proper theme.
I hate Jazz in all it’s forms.
The Office I like.
Snow White I’m ambivalent about.
FINALLY THE OFFICE! The only tv show besides maybe rick and morty i'd buy a set for!
If they make the Snow White set before making one with minidolls and microdolls will make me fairly mad. maybe its being held for review to discuss that.
I don't mind that none of these are products are I would buy, since I have a backlog of sets that I do like.
I think the Jazz Quartet is deserving, it's definitely original and different to any other products. I'm not into jazz, I do like musical instruments but it's not the kind of thing I would display.
The Office is so blah. Will the designers find a way of making the set not look super bland, or will it all be about the minifigs (which I guess is what a lot of people wanted when they voted for this, as I think is the case with a lot of licenced IDEAS submissions). I'm surprised they did it but at least as others have said it will stop any more The Office submissions. On the other hand it will encourage yet more unoriginal sitcom diorama type submissions.
Snow White could be cute if they end up going for it.
No interest. Pass on all.
On the bright side, more money saved.
lego continues to disappoint by choosing sitcom projects they could very easily just produce outside of the ideas line and very little else. the jazz quartet is very nice though, i look forward to that.
Ha! Exactly what I wanted, and exactly what I didn't want! I'm a jazz musician myself and that Quartet is an amazing work of art. I hope they don't change a thing, it's perfect! And, oh, another sitcom. But anyway, Jazz Quartet, so excited! Also I don't understand those crying against the Quartet--it may not be for you, but surely you can at least appreciate the artistry? This is the kind of MOC that makes it into those coffee table books.
Oh well, nothing I wanted. Guess I can save my money!
I'll be buying the Jazz Quartet if LEGO doesn't ruin it. Agree - don't change a thing!
My poor Chitty...
And I loved the train bookends. I would have bought them in multiples for my home, office, friends...

LEGO made a Fender Stratocaster even though Mega Construx already had one out (and the licence). So apparently it's not without precedent.
So glad the Jazz Quartet was chosen! Day one purchase.
I was really hoping the Train Bookends would have made it through, too. Maybe for BrickLink.
Re: Castle, Modulars, WV, Botanicals... I don't think Lego tends to pick projects for which they already have an existing theme. Why would they? It's not always true, but I think generally, Ideas slots are reserved for sets that have appeal but would otherwise have no outlet for release.
Personally, I wonder what the recurring hangup is for certain types of sets, such as the sitcom/TV based ones.
I don't know if I'll ever buy "The Office" set personally, but surely it gives me ideas on an idea I've had for the longest time for a type of business that has long been needed: The newspaper office. I mean, think about it: An editor's office, a conference room, perhaps a publisher's office and all those work stations.
If you ask me, I'd try for a few classic TV sets. "All in the Family" and "The Brady Bunch" have long since been my top two picks. Both tremendous play and display opportunities.
Hm. I'm happy for the Jazz Quartet, at least, and the Snow White set could be interesting. Neither incarnation of The Office is dear to me, but both have their strengths and it's undeniable that the US version has developed a fanbase who strongly identify themselves around the show, so of course it was chosen. I think the more goofy tone of the US version can also make for a more interesting set to display with more props and written gags that will liven up the scene. Besides, the submission was based on the US version, and, correct me, but I don't recall any of the Office projects in review being based on the UK one. The fanbase has to come in in numbers to make the project viable, and it seems clear that it's been Office US fans each time. It's totally fine if you prefer the UK version, because I understand why. But your personal preference shouldn't render it illogical that the set being made isn't the one you like.
Having looked at all the submissions again, there are a few more I am disappointed were rejected. Interesting there were 2 Office submissions. I hope X Files and Chitty come up again, along with the book ends. The map of Middle Earth is clever and you could do similar with Game of Thrones. I seem to recall Winnie the Pooh was delayed then accepted, so hopefully that's a good indicator for Snow White.
I would like lego to launch a castle theme, or at least a book on the subject would be useful.
YAY to the Jazz Quartet!
BOO to the Office!
I actually dislike jazz quite a bit as a musical style, but as a lego set, this is creative and intriguing.
On the other hand, I do rather like The Office as a TV show, but as a lego set, it does nothing for me and I have zero interest in it.
OMG!!!
I'm so jaded I never thought the sublime Jazz Quartet works be picked.
I dislike static display sets to the point of even irritating myself when I post about it. But this set.. this set is something else.
Even as a static piece, it exudes motion. You know that a second before or a second after the image would be different. Something is being played. What is it?
The set is silent and static but it's a set of sound and motion.
An A+ set. Day one and I'm betting it'll be on my list of greatest sets ever.
That's the beauty of Lego Ideas for me: hardly ever something worth buying - which I like as it saves me money. So far: Saturn V, Pirates of Barracuda Bay, potentially the piano (still on the fence). Maybe in 2 years time there will be something... There were tons of nice submissions in the last few review sessions but Lego chooses in its 'regular' odd fashion.
Very happy for those who got what they wanted. The Jazz Quartet is nice but I'm not sure people realizes how big this thing is. This will require a sizeable spot on the shelf (roughly 48 studs across).
If I don't check Brickset early in the morning the avalanche of comments becomes insurmountable. I doubt another comment will add anything new. :D
I think we underestimate the difficulty of the Lego Ideas approval process. It's a strange beast if you think about it. Unfortunately there will always be disappointment. But I think the history of Lego Ideas is a net positive and has produced some great stuff.
Regarding the sets: The Jazz one looks lovely. Although I love The Office as a show, I have no interest in a set based on it.
Congrats to the designers!

I didn't mean to imply that previous LEGO IDEAS submitters had any "rights" to TLG's now-in-production IDEAS selection of "The Office." I meant to suggest that, perhaps, there might be some indirect parallels (to some degree) to the controversy from a few years ago when, apparently, a LEGO IDEAS submitter had a suggested project that ended up becoming TLG's "Ghostbusters Headquarters," or at least there were quite a few significant similarities between the two that made people wonder. (Yes, I also heard the counterargument that TLG already had that set in design/production prior to the LEGO IDEAS submission showing up.)
Anyway, in like form, I wondered if prior "The Office" submitters might see little facets of their (ultimately rejected) suggested sets show up in the final product (based on Jaijai Lewis' winning submission), but there would be no credit or acknowledgement of all those prior "The Office" submissions that were rejected. As I said, I'm guessing they can't do anything about it because they lost. I only thought that perhaps some of them would be miffed because they had the idea earlier than this winning submission did (license issues notwithstanding).

That's some seriously toxic gatekeeping right there.
Edit: I should also add that I've been working on restoring older castle sets over the last year and those parts are exceedingly expensive. Forestmen hats alone are $3-5 apiece. Shields regularly go for $5-10. Bardings can easily be $20+ unless you want one that's broken. Don't even get me started on plumes.
The last serious slate of castle sets was *2013* and if you want to pick up a red dragon now, they're easily $40+
Want a dragon from the Elves line? That was only a few years ago and they're also stupid expensive.
Quite disappointing, as usual.
Anyway if among dozens of sets only few can be chosen, it is likely to leave disappointed people behind. Maybe LEGO should increase the 10k threshold, too many sets come to this stage, the voter base may have increased over time.
PS: I hoped in the Lord AFOL Castle this time! ^___^
PPS: the Jazz quartet is a great set, but out of my chords.
Can't easily quote your comment to me on my phone, but the reason is suggested splitting licensed vs non licensed is that it seems like there are two separate groups of fans. They could market them and gain feedback for the separately, driving up demand for and engagement with both types of sets because it would be more clear what each theme was. I kind of think "Ideas" has become too broad to be a useful or meaningful theme. I don't really bother looking at the Ideas site any more because it's all a bit of a mess at the moment.
And yes, splitting doesn't necessarily mean I would get more sets I like (maybe 75% of the current ideas slots end up going to the licensed themes and only 25% to original ideas) but I feel it would make more sense from a product or marketing perspective.
The only one of these 3 I have any interest in is the Seven Dwarfs set. I get that sitcom fans are passionate about their favorites but to me these are just expensive parts packs. The Jazz one was interesting but not something I would buy but it does fit what the Ideas Theme should be.
I didn't bother reviewing again which sets were under consideration this round so that I wouldn't be disappointed in the results. I know there were some I had supported but didn't want to get my hopes up for any of them to be chosen.

Lego has no reason to pick any of these - they have just released a Castle themed one, while Modulars and WV are ongoing themes."
anyone expecting any of those to be picked isn't paying attention

We got Friends and Queer Eye apartments this year, in Creator Expert / 18+. So castles/modulars/whatever seem as valid in LEGO Ideas as The Office.
Here in Ukraine, my circle of friends had weekly gatherings to watch the U.S. office. It really was the Michael Scott show. Still, the first season is weak, and the show is more miss than hit after he left.
Still, as much as I enjoyed the show, it's not something I would buy in Lego form. I was hoping Princess Bride had a chance. If Baba Yaga would have made it, it would be immediate purchase.
Here's to keeping money in my wallet. Unless wifey or daughter really want Snow White.
Ive said from day 1 that IDEAS needs to ban the use of 3rd party IP. lets make it about creative originality and let LEGO sort out which licenses to partner with or not.
If this off ice can brute force it's way into being a lego ideas set (as per the description) ,maybe there is hope for a Zelda Botw set from ideas.
Finally, people will stop commenting “where’s The Office?” on other sitcom sets. And now I get to laugh at you for liking the office, just like you laughed at me for liking friends.
"The Office" was no surprise. I'm tired of these sitcom vignettes, but I knew LEGO would likely end up doing ANOTHER; instead of something truly unique.
The Jazz Quartet isn't my cuppa tea, but at least it's something different.
I wouldn't have expected that Jazz Quartet set to make it, but it is a very pleasant surprise. If they do a good job on it, this is certainly gonna be on my shelf!
I don't care much for the other two, though those are much less of a surprise, and both could definitely sell well.
Unfortunate (though not really surprising for most) that the Train Bookends, Chitty, Totoro, Marine Life, Lisbon Tram or the Astronaut didn't make it, any of those would have been my favorites.
I do feel however that Lego should do something about their definition of an "Idea" and which submissions they accept. I mean, all of these are pretty good MOCs, no complaints about that. But after several very similar TV-show based sets, is doing the exact same thing simply with another property still an "Idea"? At least give an original spin on it. Same thing with another rocket, even when I would probably buy every single one they launch. The great thing about Ideas IMHO always was that it gave us sets Lego probably would never have come up with themselves. Like the maze. The Yellow Submarine. The Pop-up Book. Or recently the Typewriter. If Lego believes there's a market for a big castle set they will do so, they don't need a MOC as inspiration for that. And even if they would pick it, they'd probably change so much everybody would still be complaining ;-)
Just re looked at the 57 and honestly there was a dozen or more I'd have brought but not those 3! Personally I find them all dull, once again missed opportunity I feel Lego.
I really wish Lego would do more video game sets with minifigs. I would have gotten any of the five sets from this review. Since we're finally getting The Office, maybe Zelda still has a chance . . .
Some gaming related stuff? NO.
Absolutely nothing new. Just three of the average Ideas projects passed: a Disney one, a sitcom one and a random decorative one. Next time will be the turn for the NASA/Space exploration one.
There’s too much negativity in this comment section. I’m personally stoked with these selections. I’m sad about not getting the violin or princess bride sets, but the sets Lego picked were all still great choices. Keep it up Lego!
@Simbabwe said:
"There’s too much negativity in this comment section. "
Not every LEGO fan has the same collection priorities , it's more disappointment and not negativity.
I don't collect licensed sets and don't care about them, others collect all sitcom sets etc, different fans , different opinions.
But yeah, the Sitcom fans should be happy now, with 3 sitcom sets ( 10292 + 10291 + Office) lasting till the end of 2024 (office is an assumption but it wont be out till at least mid-2022 at this rate).
And then there's still 21328 Seinfeld is around till at least end of 2023, and 21319 Central perk until end of 2022.
I have to admit some licenses would interest me, just not those ;)
Out of all the great designs, they choose a office.
My two pence for what it’s worth, the Jazz set looks incredible. Don’t think I’ll buy it, but happy something so striking and inventive will be produced. It’s so different to anything else I’ve seen in Lego form. It sums up what Ideas, in my opinion, is about.
@brick_mason said:
"Also, I've seen reference to it in these comments, but what it "WV"?"
Winter Village
I see a lot of complaints about Legos choices, but I think you should be directing your complaints elsewhere. Lego is not to blame in the case of these three sets.
The creators of The Office are clearly the biggest problem here. Isn’t it enough to call the show “The Office”, did they really have to have it take place in an office? Had the show taken place in a castle then problem solved.
As for Snow White, did the dwarves really need to live in a cottage? Had they lived in a blue spaceship with trans-yellow windows then it would have been such a better story, not to mention more believable.
As for the Jazz Quartet, clearly this is a very generic quartet. Why not just base it on the greatest jazz band never to play jazz, The Rolling Stones. An accurately attired Kieth Richards minifigure would have made all the pirate fans happy. The blame in this case clearly falls on the fan designer for depicting a jazz band that actually plays jazz.
So thanks a lot sitcom producers, fairy tale writers, and fan designers, you have officially ruined Lego forever, until they release something that I love. Also I still need to buy the Seinfeld set and a few Star Wars sets, but Lego has been ruined by outside forces!
I’m a bit tired of sitcom based sets, but I might get the Office, even if it only comes with Michael, Jim, Dwight, Pam, Ryan, and maybe Angela or Erin. I’ve been waiting a long time for this.
Jazz Quartet looks good, even if it isn’t my style, but Snow White doesn’t really interest me. It’s a shame the modular expansion didn’t make the cut... I would have found it interesting to place in my LEGO City.
And once again, trains lose out....
The Nightmare Before Christmas and LEGO Astronaut were my favorite submissions, but I am glad with Jazz Quartet being approved, it is really a piece of art.
I have never watched The Office so it is not a set I will look for, but based on the history (number of submissions, two projects in the same review), it has a solid fan base. LEGO tried to find a balance between creativity and capitalism.
I think Snow White and the Seven Dwarves was not green-lit yet due to the 'IP, or not IP' soliloquy: will it be based on the Disney film or the fairy tale? If the second option is chosen, how to make it different enough to avoid a lawsuit, but recognizable enough to appeal to the customers?

The Office is meh, Friends is classic. The Office is way too new for me to consider it being a worthwhile Ideas set that takes the place of dozens of creative ideas.
Congratulations to the designers of the chosen sets! And kudos to all the other designers too. Y’all worked hard and we loved it!
My wallet is happy because I can easily skip these, but I will say that the Jazz Quarter is a gorgeous and clever build.
Interesting to note the locations of varying opinions when reading these comments, I now see why they two sets were chosen, even if they aren't for me.
I can’t believe they are actually doing The Office! I pretty happy about that. I also hope Snow White makes it. That build is great.

Speak for yourself. Seasons 2 through 5 of the office are some of the best comedy TV ever to air.
"It's apparent to us how much desire there has been for a set like this after numerous submissions reaching review over the years. This time we had the opportunity and we jumped on it."
Yet far more castles, Zelda sets, and modular buildings have made it to review than this particular offensive sitcom. LEGO, you are hypocrites.

Yeah, I feel ya… was really hoping to add an X-Files set to my collection. Bummer
Not a fan of The Office, I hate that show.
If they do the design justice, I could easily go for the Jazz set.
As for Snow White, I like it but if they put minidolls in it, forget it.
If I would have been the first person to submit an "The Office" set, I'd be pretty pissed. The platform is called "LEGO Ideas", but after multiple submissions it's hardly a new idea anymore. Basically anyone can copy previous ideas and apparently one day the stars may be aligned and LEGO can make a set out of it. The same thing happened with the Fossil Museum idea. I think they should keep ideas that could be sets, but were rejected based on temporary restrictions such as licenses on the side and produce them when restrictions are lifted and honor the original idea poster.
LEGO states (regarding The Office) that "It's apparent to us how much desire there has been for a set like this after numerous submissions reaching review over the years. This time we had the opportunity and we jumped on it."
Zelda: What am I, chopped liver?
The Jazz set seemed like the obvious choice and deserves it well. Congrats to The Office fans who can look forward to the new set. Although I am a bit surprised Willy Wonka would not be a more desirable license as I suspect it has a much broader audience. Perhaps the owner of the license wanted too much money.......

That's exactly what I was thinking, when I wondered if the folks behind prior submissions might feel miffed that their earlier ideas were rejected. Thank you for your comment.
I am SO happy about the new Office set! I honestly can't wait to see what the finished product will look like and I can say I will be buying it the first day it goes on sale.
I loved the original British version and I really love the American spin-off, having watched it many times over.
I wasn't sure that they'd actually pick this one but I'm so glad they did!
So here's me adding to the whining (for posterity, because I'm way too late to the conversation for anyone to read my entire comment);
This is the first time in years I'm not entirely disappointed at the results.
I was really hoping for the Jazz Quartetet, and I had a feeling it had a solid chance due to it's undeniable brilliance (though some tasteless people here are in fact denying it).
Now I'm just anxious to see whether they'll take all the soul and character out of the model in order to get it ready for a wide release. Worst case I can still just build the original by myself, but at least they still made an interesting choice.
Now for the opposite of an interesting choice: The Office.
It was crystal clear the project was gonna make it this time, because apparently just like some of ya'll, the Ideas team needs it really hammered in how popular The Office US is.
"EVERYONE AGREES THE UK VERSION IS BETTER"-Doesn't matter. The US version was way more popular and always will be.
"IT ENDED 8 YEARS AGO" Friends ended 17 years ago and Seinfeld ended 23 years ago, both before The Office US began airing.
Personally I really dislike the show. Jim and Pam suck and the writing isn't anything special like people say it is.
And as Ideas set it's of course disappointingly another sitcom (? laugh-track, btw) set. At this point they might as well just release these sets under Creator Expert and stop wasting Ideas slots.
Also they chose the one that is 3-4 times larger than the other one, which of course means it's 3-4 times larger than it needs to be. Scummy, but we're used to that by now.
Kinda neutral on the Snow White set. The dwarfs would make fun figures, but of course the set looks way bigger than it needs to be.
Now, regarding the six to seven Castle sets that were rejected - STOP WHINING.
Yes, Castle is in a dry spell right now, but it'll undoubtedly be back eventually.
Classic Castle fanboys are the most boring people. Seriously.
And honestly? They should just omit modular buildings from being submitted. They're never gonna be chosen. Modulars are their own, expensive, process-ridden thing, and with how many fell through the reviews so far, it's doubtful they're ever gonna be chosen. I'm sure the Creator-designers have plenty of their own ideas for modulars and TLG wouldn't release an Ideas modular to compete with their other yearly release.
Closing thoughts on this comment nobody will probably read; hoping like just how they got the message with The Office, they'll get the message of us wanting more LotR sets.
And since they're already working with Nintendo, here's hoping Zelda sets are not too far away, though sadly I don't expect any Metroid sets before Billund and Kyoto are both entirely underwater.
The next review looks pretty boring. My favourites are Carls House (though this particular model is far form my favourte version) and Outer Solar System Explorers. And I feel like both have a decent shot based on previous approved Ideas.
Kinda wish among us came instead of jazz, only reason I am getting office cus I can increase my minifigure collection XD
Yay The Office! The one set I wanted.
Hello! To begin with, sincere congrats to the winners. I am active on Ideas and despite many more set hitting the 10k lately I swear it’s not easy to get there!
I believe the program is a wonderful opportunity for us fans and builders to give it a try and be under the limelight so I don’t share the general negative feelings when a castle or modular project is not picked … Lego can make those and quite well I shall say. Ideas is a platform which allows Lego to have a free market research on new subjects. They know already people love castles, they don’t need 10k to have it confirmed … on the other hand, it’s interesting for them to see Jazz Quartet make it to 10k in few weeks! My only suggestion is that Lego should probably filter more at the start, not allowing projects which are surely not going to pass the review stage, as for their existing IPs. It would be easier for everyone! Also, the algorithm which ranks the most popular ideas is quite obscure… asterix and obelix (which I don’t like at all) and Tutankhamen (which I like a lot) have ranked in the first page for months getting far less votes than other projects. So I wonder why Lego would keep them there if they then discard them… yet Ideas is still fantastic and I love the Jazz quartet!!!
The Jazz Quartet is original, a nice design and a creative work. Miniland style figures however never appealed to me so I won't be getting this set.
The Office is understandable from their sale experiences with the other sitcoms. I haven't bought any of these sitcom sets, and I won't be getting this one either, since I never understood the concept of simply minifig displays with some references and jokes in there. I also think that keeping on adding sitcoms based on Ideas is complelety contradictory with the concept of Ideas and more a variations on a theme. And to add insult to injury, the US version instead of the UK version gets released as a set.
There were very nice builds among the entries and several of them would end up on my shelves. And while it is obvious that some themes are being developed by Lego themselves and other cater to a niche audience, there was still a lot more to choose from than yet 'another' sitcom.

So you want a first person only model, where everyone races to be the first to grab an IP that they don't own to block others from using it later? "
Yes, if it's the exact same idea such as a certain living room in a sitcom. I think a resubmission after rejection should only be accepted if it's a significantly different/improved design. For most IPs there's plenty of room for actual new ideas so this doesn't mean an IP is 'blocked'.
I'm disappointed they missed three of those sets. I was counting on a castle, Bilbo Baggins' cabin, Krusty Burger and an astronaut.
There is mileage in people adapting The Office set to their own offices. I'm not an Office fan but I could see me buying this to recreate my own office.

Mate, I think you've broken the record for how many times one can use the word "office" in a single comment.
I don't know how to break it to some of you guys but just because a set doesn't personally appeal to you it doesn't mean it was a bad choice. The Office is literally one of the most popular tv shows of all time. Streaming platforms are willing to put millions of dollars into streaming rights for it. And the jazz quartet is a no brainer considering the recent success of other adult oriented display piece type kits LEGO has put out recently. I'm sorry but your expectations were completely ridiculous. Some of these sets would be not only massive and expensive but also niche and difficult to sell. You have to keep in mind that this site's community makes up a minority of a minority of people who purchase LEGO. What you want is not what reflects the wants of the larger community.
For everyone complaining about The Office getting picked, look at it this way…you’ll NEVER see another set from The Office up for contention again.

As a hardcore LEGO fan for the last 20 years I will be getting this day one. I grew up with the show and love all the actors in it.
You have not been around LEGO Ideas long enough if you were hoping for those. If LEGO already did a series of sets with a licensed theme they are very unlikely to revisit it for IDEAS.
Disappointed is what I have to say. No interest in either two set that was chosen to go forwards or the Snow White.
I was hoping the NASA SLS would have been chosen because the Saturn V did so well.

So true. I can imagine the Lego Ideas team checking the Brickset comments section after an announcement and saying, 'They hate it... we've got it spot on!'
"The Office" does not surprise me. Live-TV show based sets do well (Big Bang, Friends) The Jazz Quartet is also not that surprising. NO Castle set at all, even though about 20% of them were castle, AND the 1st BrickLink round has a castle set that sold out quickly and "broke" the site. I would like to see another Castle or Medieval city/Village set. the 3-in-1 was great but I WANT MORE CASTLE.
I also wanted SUCCULENT GARDEN, and I hope it comes to Bricklink.
I have great fear that the Office set will not have anywhere near the quantity of minifigures shown in this model, and the model itself will be drastically reduced in overall size, possibly reducing the side offices.
I have greater fear that Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs will become Snow White and the Four Dwarfs living in a house that looks like it was blown away by heavy ordnance on 2 sides.
Other than that? The picks are the picks. I’ve learned to live with the disappointment of whatever set I may have been rooting for not making it.

Saturn V is iconic, whereas SLS is a (bad) joke. Lets first see it fly and do something useful/interesting, and then maybe it will be worthy of putting next to Saturn V.

Oops....hadn't even realized....my mistake.
That guy once ran a small Lego shop and his channel also was purely about Lego. But after he already had been complaining quite a bit about what sets Lego would (not) let him sell or forced on him, and next some rather ridiculous legal action about the logo he used on Youtube, he switched to brick build construction sets in general. He later was forced to take down several videos about other brands because apparently he wasn't clear enough it wasn't Lego, hence all the post-its with "Not Lego" behind him. The guy still likes (and sells) Lego products (well, the good ones) but he really has his issues with the company. And it only made his channel grow, to the point that YT now is his main job and the shop is only open a few days a month. Even more so after they have been trying to bully other small companies in Germany out of business. And where most reviewers on Youtube are rather mild in their criticism, he often is pretty brutal and very cynical. He really should get his videos subbed, there really isn't anything like it in English.
As for that Loz set: apart from a few minor niggles he did like that, but his main issue also was why there are only 4 dwarfs, even when there actually are 7 cups and 7 beds. It's a big mystery...
That's a rather revisionist interpretation of what happened: he wanted to TRADEMARK a brick logo, something TLG issued a very standard objection to using the default process devised for such cases. Which he then blew up as "Wwaaaaaah, this big evil company is putting down the small guy! Waaaaaaaah!"
There's not enough eyerolls in the world to describe the situation.
Well it's one thing to object to that trademark (they have indeed good reasons to do so). But they did go a few steps further than that. For that matter, I am actually surprised Brickset can still use a logo with bricks (well, plates) in it.
But I obviously don't know all of the ins and outs either, and to be honest, I don't really care. I just like his reviews. I did before things between him and Lego went sour, and I still do.
What is the target group for the sitcom sets? Fans of the sitcom. For anyone else, they are completely uninteresting. The "Friends" set is heavily discounted, why should "The Office" do it any better?
So if Red Dwarf gets 10k votes next time, surely they will make it into an official set.
Does the house have a white cobra coming out of one of the stacks for smoke effect?
TOTALLY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE RESULTS!
The Jazz set has artistic merit, but the Office set has no redeeming qualities at all.
I suppose the community is really at fault for being too inventive and creative.
Out of all of those epic sets this is what they pick? okay the Office set I can understand due to the show's popularity. But the Jazz Quartet!?? When you had awesome castles, viking ships and so many houses.....that's what they pick? Dear lord.
I love jazz but that doesn't mean I want this set. I don't care about the office but if I did, would I by this set? Hell no, it's ugly. I don't understand how something like the village post office cannot go through. I bet it would easily sell more than the office one which will be hard to sell as the friends set is.
Really bad choices, I really do not get the reasoning behind this...
major turn off for both sets, skip with ease.
