Brand stores expanding into Belgium
Posted by Huw,
LEGO is currently advertising for a manager for a brand store in Brasschaat, Belgium, which is on the outskirts of Antwerp and close to the border with the Netherlands. I'm sure this news will go down well with those nearby. (Thanks bluemoose).
Not such good news though, is that a brand store won't be coming to the town near me, Southampton, any time soon, despite what LEGO customer services had told people earlier in the year.

My oh my, this will not make my wife very happy... But it does make me happy ! A brand store just a few kilometers away from my home ! Lego Belgium has its headquarters in the same place. This is really going to be an expensive year...
Nice! That's good news. Can't wait...
This news just made my day... :-)
At long last!! :-)
This made my day!
Huzzah! That's great news!
Wow great!! Woohoo.
That's pretty close for me too, great succes!
yippie!
nice :) never went to a lego brand store :)
"news will go down well with those who live nearby".
A lot of "dutchies" live in Braschaat ..it's almost a dutch enclave :p..
no seriously: good news.. though.. since Cologne & Brasschaat aren't that much further away from me.. i might go for the cheaper german stores.
Nice :) Even if I am in Brussels, that one will be the closest one for me (until now the closest one was the one in Lille, twice the distance).
Yes! Close enough.
Not one in Southampton - Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo - breathe - ooooooooooooooooooooo!
Hey Ho Huw - at least our wives will be happier.
Yeah, GREAT news!
A Lego store within 1,15 hour drive. Better then the 2,5 hour drive to Oberhausen....
Really sad we won't be getting a store in Southampton. One day...
Hi all,
Does somebody know how one can apply to open an official lego store like this one? Should one contact the central Lego services or the national distributor? Does it work like a franchise or do you "only" get he chance to apply to job opportunities like this one?
(I'm sorry if this comment area is not the right spot to pose these questions.)
Thanks in advance :)
I don't really buy the idea that the actual Lego store will be based in brasschaat, that is just a suburb of Antwerp, where Lego Belgium has its HQ. I'm willing to bet 5 poly bags on the actual location being in one of the high streets in Antwerp, or either in the large shopping centre of Wommelgem, just outside Antwerp.
Great, Except that I live on the other side of the Netherlands (Above Amsterdam, Near Alkmaar.)
Besides a brand store means everything is priced retail (online shops are a lot cheaper then retail here.) and there's already a great unofficial Lego store in Alkmaar if you know where to find it.
Finally they are getting closer... Still a 1,5 hr drive but better than Oberhausen. There is also a good lego store in Delft, quite similar to the one in Alkmaar which is indeed a bit tricky to find. There's also a lego-affiliated store in Ypenburg (The Hague). I believe it's not an official brand store but they do have a huge selection of sets including exclusives, and a sort of pick-a-brick wall.
Southampton's coming end of 2013/2014, it all depends on when another shop relocates inside West Quay.
^ Unfortunately, that was the plan but it's not happening now. I have it on good authority.
OMG, as I'm from Brasschaat, I'll be able to walk to the store!
And btw: Brasschaat is not a suburb of Antwerp. I do think it's odd to not place the store in a city like Antwerp and wonder how big this store will be. And how long it will last.
^^ Not questioning the good authority but a brand store member of staff told me Christmas 2011 that Glasgow was getting a brand store in 2012. The next store to be opened I was told at the time. Maybe there's still hope for Southampton just might take a bit longer than originally hoped, given that Glasgow store is now indeed open? Perhaps the decision to locate a store there in the first place means that Lego won't abandon plans to locate there altogether?
