Friends Advent Calendar - Day 17
Posted by MeganL,
Yesterday's build of a book, chair and table, was great for setting a scene. I'm really enjoying this calendar, not just for the builds but also the comments. I never would have thought to see a reference to Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy associated with a Friends set, but that happened yesterday.
This advent calendar has featured some very solid builds so far, not to mention plenty of spares! Let's see how many spares, uh, what build awaits us for Day 17.
This is another lovely build - two toys! One's a soldier, and another of a wind-up ballerina. I'm wondering if there's a reference in the Friends series (which I'm not current on), but I have to say that these two little builds remind me very much of the Hans Christan Andersen fairy tale. Perhaps it's the heart piece on the ballerina?
Regardless, this is a great little build to find in the advent calendar today!

These two are excellent! Instantly recognisable.
Given yesterday's 'Once upon a tile', I'd say that's a very plausible hypothesis!
There are some very nice parts in there as well.
I'm dead certain it's the steadfast tin soldier.
AFAIR in the end they've melted into a heart.
If these aren’t the best Advent Calendar builds ever, they’re certainly in the Grand Final
That soldiers excellent
Did anyone have a spare 1x2 medium lavender tile in yesterday’s sachet? I got behind on a few days and can’t tell where it came from or belongs!
From all the builds I've seen from any calendar this year, these are easily the best! Very cool!
That is gorgeous.
I like the way they suggest an elaborate hairstyle with just two pieces on the ballerina.
It's like they are really trying to make up this time for all the past years of crappy Friends Advent Calendars.
I'm so glad this is the only LEGO Advent Calendar we bought this year.

Close. The ballerina is made of paper, with a sequin on her sash. At the end of the story, the tin soldier has been thrown in the fire, the ballerina is blown into the same fire by wind, the soldier melted into a heart, and the ballerina burned away except for the blackened sequin.
It looks like you may be right about this being based on that, but it doesn’t match the story. This ballerina has a key on her back, indicating some sort of clockwork function (not something you typically find on papercraft dolls). And the tin soldier has been subjugated by Starro the Conqueror.
More likely, these are just incredibly stereotypical old-timey gender-based toys, and the heart is intended to represent the ballerina’s bust (and the star, a Starro spore).
Friends is just rubbing it in at this point.
My mind goes to The Nutcracker :)
They are beautiful!!
And today, a lot of spare pieces!!
