BrickLink designer program round 1 instructions now available

Posted by ,

Those who ordered sets from round one of the BrickLink Designer Program 2021 have started to receive them and, for those that didn't but who want to have a go at building them from their own parts, instructions for all five projects have now been published.

You'll find links to the PDFs here, although unfortunately they do not contain a parts list at the back, which will hamper gathering the required pieces up, although they can be obtained from our database.

Have you received yours yet? What do you think of them? CapnRex101 and I didn't order any so won't be able to review them for you, but FlagsNZ has at least a couple of them and is hoping to do so.

Is it sad I ordered these so long ago I don’t remember which ones I got?

By in Netherlands,

Going by sudden availability of the sets on Bricklink: the first wave of deliveries has happened in the past week in Europe. I received a copy of the pursuit of flight myself (and spent way too much on obtaining a Castle in the Forest as well).

Instructions are now also availaible in the Lego Building app (but the PDF's are much more convenient). Thanks for sharing!

Parts lists are available on rebrickable:

By in Germany,

I received my Pursuit of Flight this week and built it at once. Very nice set!

By in United Kingdom,

Mine should be here early January according to Lego.
Also, a point to note, I ordered mine in the extended phase after they increased production.
These were originally expected in June next year, so great they are shipping early, but might cause a few budgeting issues for some!

Inventories are also on Brickset :D

I got all mine today! Just in time for Christmas

By in New Zealand,

The 3D instructions were released in the LEGO App a couple of weeks ago (I commented on it in a news article on Dec 10th) and they look fantastic. Looking forward to getting mine soon, though expecting it will still be a few weeks for us here in the antipodes.

I got the Kakapo and Castle. Need to find time to build them now!

By in United Kingdom,

I got a note 3 weeks ago saying Pursuit of Flight, Kakapo, and Fishing Boat were ready to ship.
Then got a note a week ago, apologising that they were all now on backorder.
Oh well, I wasn't expecting them yet anyway!

I am beyond thrilled we have access to the instructions, since I didn't get in in time for the Castle in the Forest. Gotta put these bins of random parts to good use!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I bought the castle planning to build it and didn’t have any intention of reselling it, but seeing what the secondary market is going to be, I’ll be very tempted to flip it and get one of my white whales.

By in United Kingdom,

Received my Kakapo a couple of days ago (first wave order) but haven’t built yet or downloaded the instructions. Box looks great though and arrived undamaged despite the outer box being crushed / partially opened probably due to lack of paper packing inside :S

Doh! So they are. Thank you. I'm glad someone's paying attention to what goes on here!

I bought the Sheriff's Safe, which currently looks like it's backordered for me. I got a couple of emails a few weeks ago about the round 1 sets shipping but no notification about the backorder.

I seem to remember they said something about instructions for the projects that didn't get funded but I can't remember whether they said instructions would be available or not.

By in United Kingdom,

I got an email stating mine is “backordered”. Even better, it has my old card as payment, which—amazingly—Lego cannot update, because it’s an active order. So I have to wait until my payment gets declined, whereupon I “should” (not “will”) be asked to call customer services again and be able to pay for it. Bizarre.

Are there any pieces unique to these sets other than sticker sheets? Trying to figure out how easy it would be to piece them together.

By in United States,

Finally the moment I've been waiting for!!! I'm hoping to part out Castle in the Forest one of these days!

Didn't the original announcement of this program say both the winners and losers would get instructions released eventually? Would love to part out Legend of the BIONCLE too (although that model had a lot more recolors I'm gonna have to work my way around)

However, I'm still sad that LEGO does not provide a paper notice with the bricklink boxes! ??
LEGO spends so much paper in their free paper catalog that it is almost tight-fisted not to provide printed instructions in sets paid for full price ....
To believe that LEGO is doing everything to promote the smartphone and its universe (social network, news, video game ...) rather than playing with their bricks .....

Must admit I was very anti building app, but recently couldn’t find my instructions for something quickly, so went to use the app instead.
Found it actually easier in the end.
No flairs on the pages from lights, no creases hiding some parts near the spines, and turned up the brightness a bit made it easier with some of the darker colours that don’t print well.

I have a tablet though, which helped.
Not sure I would want to use a phone with a small screen?

I got my Fishing Boat yesterday.
Plenty of sets on eBay. I'm keeping a watch on some to see if they really do sell at the prices being demanded. The fishing boat and castle listed for £400 to £500.

Originally, it was supposed to be possible to purchase instructions for the sets that didn't get produced. However, I learned yesterday that 'the current set-up doesn't allow for that', whatever that means. Supposedly, they're trying to find a way to make it happen. I'm not holding my breath.

Pursuit of Flight looks like it has potential for expandability with custom aircraft. Didn't get in on the ordering of it, but the parts list looks pretty straightforward. Might try to piece it together and build some custom aircraft.

By in Slovakia,

Now I’m even more annoyed with the mess that was the first round of preorders: was interested only in the castle 910001 which I obviously failed to secure. Looking at instructions it’s a castle I’d like a lot, definitely my favourite from recent Ideas and Creator castle sets. But I’m not paying around €500 it’s already listed for.

There are no Forestemen shields, it’s stickers applied to a blank shields: it kind of has a feeling of first castle sets :-)

I ordered the Sheriff's Safe which I've now received and built! An interesting set of parts and a nice build BUT the locking mechanism isn't as smooth as I would like and there is several extra pieces that have me scratching my head as to their purpose! And I've checked the instructions several times to see if i've missed out something, and i'm still clueless. I am also disappointed not to have a paper manual with the set. Still, the set was a steal at the price of £40 :)

By in Canada,

Any idea when I could expect my Kakapo to arrive? Has anyone in Canada gotten their sets or heard when theyll arrive? I got an email earlier this month, saying it was ready to ship and that theyd tell me when it was shipping, but I havent heard anything since. I have mild concern.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I was expecting them next summer, then was told that they were coming now, but later told they are on 'backorder'... Given that a 'normal' order with Lego.com went astray 2 weeks ago somewhere in Belgium, I despair.

Gravatar

You can get the parts list from the Lego instruction app. There’s an icon once you start. You can screenshot them. I did it for castle in the forest.

Same experience here. Built it this afternoon and it looks good but there weee two missing bricks and a ton of spare parts, some too big. The lock mechanism sucks right now (I ended removing it). Not sure if it is because there are errors in the instructions or not (I feel that might be a cause).
3/5 because of the mechanism. I hope the boat and castle are better.

By in United States,

Glad to see these listed on LEGO subsidiary Bricklink's site for 3x the price immediately upon shipment. Seems to me that LEGO understood this and wanted to get paid twice for a bunch of the sets.

No of course I am not a little bitter that I didn't get one when I logged in 45 minutes after sales opened...

By in Italy,

So are there new recolours? Or the whole thing has been made with parts in pre-existing colours?

They're flightless so it may be a while. :o)

By in Germany,

My Great Fishing Boat arrived yesterday. Totally thrilled, perfect timing for Christmas.

First difference I noticed compared to the box I got in the last batch (The LEGO Story) was the official LEGO branding on this new set. Looks almost like a set you could buy at any normal toy shop. Not that that's a bad thing of course. Plus, love the box art and style, still those great premium-feel flap top boxes like they used to have on Architecture and most Ideas sets.

Not to mention that, with flight ruled out, NZ isnt the closest place to float to Canada from.

I had to pull the outer wheel assembly out a few mm's so there is a gap between the 2 rotating assemblies.
It took me a while to realise that I didn't have 2 missing 1x4 tiles for all the numbered stickers as well! The 2 missing tiles are in the book on top of the safe! :)
It also wasn't obvious to me that the default number is 42 since it takes a while to get the knack of unlocking the safe.

By in United States,

They're apparently not shipping in the order they were received on the website, as I backed two sets minutes after round one went live, and was surprised to hear quite a few people have their purchases already, when mine hasn't notified me of anything, let alone having been shipped. Still says "in process" even though my credit card is good.

It sure can. I built it a couple of years ago (well, the version 1 design, when the instructions were given away) and it is easy to replace both scenery and planes. They also did a Star Wars version."

Oooh, suddenly I can see a trench run build happening!
