Vintage Taxi

©2022 LEGO Group

40532 Vintage Taxi is now a gift with purchase at LEGO.com in all regions, free with purchases exceeding £200 / €200 / $200, until the 13th February.

Furthermore, in the UK and Europe, 40491 Year of the Tiger is still a GWP at the lower threshold of £85/€85 until the 6th February, or while stocks last, so now would be a great time to spend big on the January releases and receive two free gifts!

It's not often possible to double up on desirable GWPs so make the most of it while you can.

By in Norway,

Love the look of this car!

By in United Kingdom,

I don't understand how ebay sellers already have this and ready to sell. Within minutes, one seller has listed the taxi - 4 in hand ready to post.

I moaned about the £200 spend requirement, but you do get 2 GWPs, so that is £85 for the tiger and £115 for the taxi.

They could have gotten them in store—spend 800 pounds and get enough gwp to offset that purchase by scalping.

I love this car but even if I bought everything on my wishlist that’s in stock I still can’t cross that enormous spend threshold.

Will this be available in the US?

Indeed... The Boutique Hotel deal that the sensible were waiting for and the impatient are crying over!

It usually goes live at 12 am Eastern Time, so adjust accordingly depending on where you live. I am in MST so everything goes up at 10 pm.

Does anyone know if online BnP purchases count towards the threshold?

In the US, the Boutique Hotel is out of stock, and has been since a few days past the initial release. They tried restocking it about mid month, and it sold out again in hours. I was waiting for the hotel for a GWP like this… and patience did not pay off.

By in United Kingdom,

UK has some items for 40 - 50% off too

By in New Zealand,

No double up in NZ. Only got Taxi when buying Creator Expert Bookstore which meet threshold.

What’s that dark bley piece under the grill?

It looks extremely useful.

By in United States,

I wonder if they will have them in store as well. My local brand store has the Boutique Hotel in stock, which this GWP was obviously meant to go with.

Just got mine with Mos Eisly Cantina

By in Australia,

Just managed to purchase at the Lego store we finally have in Perth, WA....and received this beautiful set and I have no intention of selling this, love it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Just got mine with the police station to go with my bugle. Now I have two thieves!

By in Germany,

Is there a place for a passenger behind the driver? There should be.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

200... that... hurts...
Recreating from used parts should prove cheaper.

Divide the GWP set's resale value by the spend threshold to get its equivalent percentage discount. The taxi may be worth $25* for $200 spent, thus 12.5% discount. During the pandemic, that's a fair deal.
*Compared to 40448 Vintage Car from January 2021 (yes, that had a much lower spend threshold)

That is a bit self-fulfilling. High thresholds are likely to drive up after market prices.

I use a different method, and calculate what I think it's worth based on content (not just ppp) . GWPs by my method usually come in at a 10% discount.
40491 I value at about £10 and has an £85 threshold - very good value.
This one, 40532, I value at about £10.75 and has a £200 threshold - very poor value.

By in Belgium,

Very nice model, simply mind boggling spending threshold.
They should just end the whole GWP and sell these sets as standalone items.

Things like these only illustrate how Lego as a company is getting more and more lured into the arrogant and pompous corner.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I am slowing down my spending. The overflow of 18+ models and all the re-released has somehow cured me from my obsession to own them all.

That said am really wanting the Titanic but that remains out of stock for now…

By in United States,

Tall order when everything is out of stock

Gravatar
By in United States,

I don't understand how/why it's advertised and yet doesn't add to the cart even with most of the online stock unavailable for purchase. This promotion is frustrating.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, I guess I will wait and see what happens over the next few weeks until it officially ends. Maybe something will come in stock during that time frame that I can order to actually get this set. Who knows...

Gravatar
By in Canada,

In Canada: most Technic sets: out of stock, most Creator Expert sets: out of stock, most Harry Potter sets: out of stock. Out of what's left, I can find a $50 city set. Still far from the $255 threshold here. I suppose by the time there is decent stuff to buy, the inventory of this set will be exhausted. I also missed on the previous 'surfboard' car. Not catastrophic but annoying.

By in United States,

I would buy one of my wish list items like 10297 Boutique Hotel, 21330 Home Alone, 21325 Medieval Blacksmith, or 21326 Winnie the Pooh to get close to the $200 US threshold, but they're ALL sold out in the US. Looking at my secondary wish list (non-essentials that I like, but don't NEED) and most of those are sold out too...like 10273 Haunted House, 71044 Disney Train, and 71374 Nintendo Entertainment System. ...and 60351 and 60350 aren't even out yet.

...so I'm wondering WTF to do because I want the car, but I'm really not able to find $200 worth of stuff that I need and/or want. I can't even stock up on train tracks or road plates because 60205 and 60304 are sold out too!

By in United States,

@Watsonite:
They could be borrowing a page from Disney’s manual. Everyone complains about how greedy Disney is every time they raise prices for their theme parks, it really what sets the prices is attendance levels. If they have too many people showing up in a consistent basis, they’ll raise the admission prices a bit until attendance drops back down into their preferred range (not so empty it looks like people don’t want to be there, but not so packed you have to stand in line to get in line).

They could be doing the same with GWPs, trying to find the price level that allows the GWPs to last out the promo period. Too high and you’ll have pallets left over. Too low and you’ll have a repeat of Martian Manhunter.

By in United Kingdom,

Thanks for this info, finally ordered my £210 pick-a-brick wanted list to tile some of my city and ballast my train tracks ... and 2 free gifts :-) Christmas come again !

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Shame to see the last of the Tigers seem to have gone now... Might have been just enough to convince me to start a taxi rank and a zoo when the Globe is released on Tuesday!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

They finally got me.
Just the Boutique Hotel was enough for the taxi in the Netherlands.
And I'll also get the tiger.
I do have to wait 2 months because the hotel is on back-order, but I can be patient. :-)

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

It matches to 10297: Boutique Hotel very well.
If I can affort to purchase the hotel I should get this taxi as well.

Gravatar
By in Lithuania,

Just purchased Boutique Hotel and got Vintage taxi! Yay! Will complement one another perfectly.

I may be preaching to the choir, but personally I use GWPs to offset the cost of sets I actually want. I wasn't a fan of the Vintage Taxi, however, I got one for free with the Hogwarts Icons set for $400 AUD. Sold the Vintage Taxi on eBay for $50 AUD last night and now Hogwarts Icons technically only cost me $350 AUD.
