NEW WINDSHIELD!
or is it a space shield?
Sweet looking spaceship! Classic space + X-wing vibe.
ZURG HAS KNEES!!!!
Interesting to see a cat in all those pictures, I wonder what it will be about... as I do not tie cats with space exploration :)
Zyclops..... The rise of Zeon.
Space!

It's clearly a Flerken

There's a cat in Star Trek Discovery (3rd and 4th season) called Grudge, and Star Trek Lower Decks has a cat-like doctor.
these are great, and not too pricey. also the non-ranger armor is going to make great custom heavy mandos.
I'm noticing that LEGO prices are going up quite a bit, but the quality of the parts and minifigures are also getting much better. I'm personally fine with paying a few extra bucks for a deluxe product. Curious to know what other people think.
Three sets, but three sets that look amazing! I want the XL-15 and Zurg. I hope I'll find good deals!
A - Anyone else anxious about the quality of the face prints on the purple minifig heads?
B - Build a Zurg makes a comeback!
XL-15...LOVE it! Great Viper design :)
These sets are pretty cool! Love the minifigures as well, might have to pick these up once the usual set discounts hit walmart/etc!
The new Zurg looks great! As does the XL-15. And heck, even the 4+ sets aren't bad (which they tend to be AWFUL).
However, I have mixed opinions on using a standard minifig head for Buzz. I have been critical of non-standard heads in the past, but they are, by far, the only way to get it right.
The XL-15 fits really well into Galaxy Squad.
A notebook (computer) built from a book! Cool!
The XL-15 looks amazing, but not sure it is £44.99 amazing.......
No helmets?

Ripley's cat Jonesy in Alien too.

Yes...Thank you - that design was ringing massive bells in my head and I could just not place it!
These sets are absolutely awesome and the figures top notch (so many prints!). The LEGO SH and SW teams could learn something from this.
They all look amazing, EVEN THE 4+ SET! See, Lego can make good look 4+ sets, without being extremely blocky and ugly.
But I loved that spaceship in particular. That's a buy for sure.

I actually disagree. The sets are more impressive in their design, and so are the figures, but the production quality is definitely going in the wrong direction. Colour consistency is so bad even my much less obsessive casual fan partner can see the problem. The new transparent plastics are unacceptably bad, I haven't had a single piece that wasn't scratched out of the box, and even if it was perfect the cloudy tone is cheap and nasty. It really spoils new sets, and the canopy pieces used to be some of the best Lego did. The prints on figures are great when they're done right but all too often they're misaligned (eg Mando helmets printed too low).
Lego sets are better on average, but I really feel like they're cutting corners they didn't used to cut. And we see the famous wooden duck on a set at least once a year now, funnily enough.
But that said, the design of these sets is awesome, and I love that display stands are becoming more common.
Dang these are tight.
The spaceship has differentials for thrusters?
Nice part usage LEGO!

i've had a lot of pieces from new sets breaking, but the same thing from when I was a kid 30 years ago still going strong, especially minifigure torsos and hands. the hands keel breaking off at the wrist and i'm stuck with an arm I can't use because I can't get the stump out.
the new windscreen looks like it might have solved the gap problem from Bo Katan's mandalorian fighter from last year.
So, maybe Lego had all these Build-A-Zurg heads floating around and needed to get rid of them...
These sets are really great. I think the spaceship is a tad expensive, but the included stand is perfect. Zurg is a fantastic $30 mech build and even the 4+ set looks pretty good!

Not to mention the Nurse Cats who are actually eternal tormentors from New New New New New New New New New New New New New New New New New York in Doctor Who (I think that’s enough “New”s but don’t hold me to it.

Data had a cat too in Star Trek the Next Generation.
But clearly, this is the robot cat that is featured prominently in the trailers . . . and I'm guessing will add a lot of humor to the movie.
Wow! Compared to that, even the 7591 Construct-a-Zurg was better looking!
The thing I find most interesting is the display stand for the XL-15. We don't usually get those in the kid-oriented builds, but even with the focus on 18+, Lego is still thinking of the collector audience in mainline sets.
Edit: I knew I was forgetting another one from this year, 31126
In the Zurg battle not sure about the purple heads as look like androids. Won't it be more sensible to have spare helmets to swap with the hair pieces rather than leave decapitated heads lying around?
It's nice to see that the new Speed Champions slopes for the printed headlights are being reused already.
Sweet sets, I like the ship a lot
Man, these would look well in a Star Wars setting and they are in a good price point as well.

The cat is a robot named Sex, he helps in some way or is just the kid-appeal character, we’re not sure yet.
Looks like the second coming of the Classic Space set 6872 Xenon X Craft / Lunar Patrol Craft from 1985! I want it.
Oooooooohboyohboyohboyohboy! SPACESHIP! And it looks so goooood!
Maybe I even look into the other sets!
Nice spaceship, unnecessary movie.
Happy for a new Flerken (even if it's not a Flerken).
I'm a sucker for collecting the different Buzz versions, and that big Zurg will go nice next to my 7592.
I’m mostly excited for that new cat! Ever since the dark grey BaM exclusive, I’ve become a bit of a crazy cat AFOL. Cool sets though all around. Love his ship.

No... the cat doctor on Lower Decks is a Caitian, a species which first appeared as a recurring character in the 1973 Star Trek animated series.
The viper ship looks really cool! Definite strong Classic Space and Galaxy Squad vibes as others have mentioned.

Give it a try. I think though the art style is limited motion, it actually catches the TOS spirit pretty well.
Overall the sets look decent. I know the new animation is different from the usual Toy Story head, so it makes sense to use a minifigure/non-molded head for this situation.
I have no interest in the source material, but I may have to pick these up depending on sale prices (which are nigh impossible to find these days).
I am definitely going to have to try to get these.
@lilienthal: The Vision CMF had one, too.
@mmmmccccc: No, it's a different piece.
Those prices are ridiculous
First 2 are an easy pass but I must buy as many of the the xl-15 as possible which will become Battlestar Gallactica vipers!!!
The XL-15 is wonderful.
Price is steep but with a discount a must have.
Surprisingly good builds, but I am not looking forward towards the movie. It just feels like a cash grab to capitalize on a popular IP, which is something most movie studios do nowadays. This is the second time Disney/Pixar has done it to Toy Story, which was clearly made to end at Toy Story 3. Pixar peaked in 2010 and nowadays release a good movie with many bad/mediocre films in between.
Spaceship! Has a Battlestar Viper look to it. Don't know anything about the IP, but as spaceships go, I'm on board! Not sure why people are complaining about the price--I'm pretty surprised to see it pretty much hit that old 10c/pc benchmark, especially for a licensed theme.
Regarding the pricing, the small set feels a bit expensive, even for 4+, which tends to use chunky pieces that jack the price, but given how much we all spend on LEGO product, it’s not liable to break the bank. The large set is 3pcs short of $0.10/pc, so anyone claiming it’s overpriced gets a raised eyebrow from me. The Zurg set, on the other hand, I could see going either way. It’s going to depend on the parts list, I guess.
@kinggregus:
Have you never watched Aliens? Or Red Dwarf?
@NatureBricks:
That was a garbage piece, and I stopped using it on any display minifigs. At no point in the Toy Story franchise did Buzz Lightyear’s retractable dome merely half-retract. It’s either all the way closed, or fully retracted into his torso. Because he’s a toy, and there’s space inside to do that.
@FuddRuckus:
Not really. Those aren’t dark-purple heads, and they don’t have as much trouble on colors that light.
@mmmmccccc:
Different head. The original didn’t have piping around the back, and I think it was larger.
@Slobrojoe:
Did they steal that from New New York in Futurama?
@AcademyofDrX:
In an unusual move for recent Pixar sets, only the small set is 4+.
These are awesome! I feel Buzz needed that CMF birthday boy hair though
@PurpleDave No idea but apparently humans built a new New York on each planet they colonised or something like that. The cat nurses happened to be on number 16 (I think)
Thumbs up to those that beat me to the flerken reference.

You have a problem with franchise cash-ins? How do you visit a Lego fansite without losing your mind?!
If you had told me the XL-15 was a modern take on Classic Space I'd believe you.
Definitely getting that.
Spaceship looks really good. Reminds me little bit a viper from battlestar galactica :)

Read my mind. Change out a few colours and voila
I wonder if the old set 7591 Construct-A-Zurg head from 2010 might work on the new Zurg. I'm going to add that and maybe his cape from that set... I'm also gonna need to design a tri-barreled ion Blaster though in the larger scale. I've already figure out how to add the Z tile to new Zurg's chest from the pictures.
What is going on with the bizarre vertical stretching on the box art? Look at the cheese slopes on Zurg's knees.
Not bad, Zurg looks great!
@AllenSmith said:
"What is going on with the bizarre vertical stretching on the box art? Look at the cheese slopes on Zurg's knees."
His right knee looks stretched vertically, but his left knee looks stretched horizontally! Very strange.
Hopefully the flesh color face printing on the purple heads is better than previous versions. The CMF buzz lightyear was much better than the set version, because of the opaqueness of the face printing.
The armor parts and windscreen look super cool
In a desperate last-ditch effort, Buzz detaches and flings his own interchangeable head at Emperor Zurg.
I have not seen it anywhere in those sets but isn't there supposed to be some sort of "glass dome" that goes on top of that green 'helmet base'?
Good sets and it is good you can get most of the main characters without having to buy the 4+ set.
Will get the XL-15, not sure yet about the Zurg.
Question: both Zurg and Zyclops have a round device attached to their belt - what is it supposed to be? Are Zurg and Zyclops related to each other?
I have no interest in the film or Buzz Lightyear as a character but damn I want that ship. Knowing how hings go in Australia, it will probably be expensive though :(
Brickset: where a reveal of new Buzz Lightyear spin-off sets can turn into a discussion of cats in science fiction.
Also: Zurg has knees? How about Zurg has LEGS?!
@grimlock_king are you referring to Buzz Lightyear of Star Command?
@HOBBES presumably the Zyclops is a member of Zurg’s robot/cyborg army.

Ouch! I thought CAD$65 was bad but AUD$80 is some serious gauging. In Canada, the 'premium' has been at 30% from USD for a while so this was to be expected.
With some luck, we might have a small rebate of 15%-20% eventually.
The price is one thing, the quantity is the other. In the past there weren't that many desirable sets. Just in April we have Jurassic Park vignette , Back to the Future, Star Wars vignettes and Buzz Lightyear; and that's assuming you managed to buy all the other sets that were already on the list (did not).
Most interesting to me is the return of a classic canopy shape to that spaceship.
It's not 100% the same as the old one but it's much closer to the classic (Space Police/M-tron/Aquasharks etc.) design compared to something like an x-wing canopy or nexo knight windscreen.
Yay. Mecha with more of Lego's awful balljoint pieces. Day one purchase, there.
LMFAO the director of Lightyear (Angus MacLane) is an AFOL who wanted more yellow canopies, so he deliberately made sure sets for the movie would require one.
"As an AFOL, I really wanted some new transparent yellow canopies. So I figured I’d make a movie that would require them. SPACE! Lightyear LEGO"
The minifigures from all of these are fantastic!
76830 Zyclops Chase - Easily the weakest of the bunch as a 4+, but still really stellar. Only real gripes I've got is the elbows and knees can't be posed but that's a flaw of a lot of LEGO mechs these days.
76831 Zurg Battle - Feels like the best deal of the lot too me. Zurg with legs and not a dress feels really weird, but still cool. The height and face are intmidating, and the sheer amount of purple makes me jump with joy! I'm sure this guy will go up there with Witch Doctor, CCBS K-2So, and CCBS General Grievous as an "Honorary Bonk" as the fandom calls 'em.
76832 XL-15 Spaceship - Normally I'm not a fan of the expensive/overly detailed ships on display stands we see from Star Wars, but that's only because their often just repeat X-Wings and TIEs. Seeing the style applied to a new vessel from a new franchise is inspiring, and easily makes this the best LEGO Pixar set they've ever put out.
This is probably the most hyped I've been for a licensed theme since... Super Mario (but even that's kind of it's own thing.) I adore sci-fi, and LEGO Star Wars has been a bit too dull compared to LEGO's original offerings lately. Something this bright and colorful is a welcome change of pace and feels so grand!
YES!!!
NEW WINDSCREEN!!! And other space parts.
Today is a good day, even if this movie ends up being mediocre trash like so much of Disney’s recent output.

I haven't really seen that. I'd appreciate to know some examples because I've bought a few recent sets and all I see is some more premium pieces and builds.
Neat sets, but how come a Pixar film gets a 7+ and an 8+ and most city sets are stuck at 5+?
These look fantastic! Sign me up :-)

Examples that I can think of off the top of my head are:
There was a problem with IIRC about 10% of the copies of the Volkswagen T2 where the pieces were all incredibly soft and had so little clutch power that the build was unable to hold together. This was the most egregious example of this problem but I've defintely gotten those dud parts elsewhere, especially from Bricks and Pieces.
The new transparent plastic is terrible and scratches ridiculously easily.
Some parts, like the 3.18 shaft with ball joint are now made from a soft plastic which has very low friction (this is what lead to those marvel mechs getting delayed). 3.18 shaft with holder (exo-force robot hand) is also made from this awful plastic and has been for a few years now.
Color consistency is worse than ever (especially on the aforementioned soft parts, but all parts suffer from bad colour consistency in certain colours)
Print quality on minifigs is far lower than it used to be (see any light print on a dark head)
Giant messy sprue marks on everything
**EDIT** you know what I thought of a few more
Less pigment used in pieces
Pieces are thinner and use less plastic. Just pick up any piece from a recent set and compare it to the same piece from 20 years ago, the new one looks and feels so much less 'premium'

76832 XL-15 Spaceship looks cool, but sadly like most Lego sets these days it doesn't really have any features / transformations / functions :(
(that's my thing / interest)
The image of buzz from the movie on the front of the boxes next to the image of the lego version on the back really highlights something: the hairpiece does not remotely resemble that of the character.
Besides this tidbit I don't have a lot to say that hasn't already been said. I guess it's nice that they give the option to use heads with balaclava or heads with hair. And i'm not interested in these, as usual, sorry.
@Magmafrost, wow, an AFOL uses his influence on a major motion picture to ensure more trans-yellow spaceship windscreens by lego. What a time to be alive.

I don't know. While I am a fan of the 1970s aesthetic, it is not quite true to the original Buzz Lightyear aesthetic, particularly in TS1. The 7593 ship captures it better. No fault of TLG, of course, just the film itself might be departing from its inspiration.

In the movie Buzz got a Little robot cat
@chuckschwa:
The previous four Buzz Lightyear minifigs (TS3, dirty TS3, CMF, TS4) have all had faces printed on dark-purple. These look like they’re printed on lavender, like sw0454 Umbaran Soldier. I never heard anyone complain about print saturation on those, plus the Hawthorne print is sufficiently darker than the head that it shouldn’t allow the lavender to bleed through.
@HOBBES:
There was on the previous Buzz minifigs. This looks like the same armor mold, but the half-dome never made sense because it never retracts into a half-dome in the movies.
Starship reminds of those old arcade games like Raiden or R Type.
I know nothing about the source material, but dangit, yellow sccbs-ish robot actually looks quite nice. New minifig helmet mold is cool too.

Wow, anywhere I can read or watch more about this? My Googlefu fails me.
I read every comment, first to last. Refreshingly upbeat and completely awesome. I even learned a thing or two about space cats.

When you read stuff like this, combined with all the requests over the last twenty-thirty years plus all the fan created models, plus all the ideas submissions, you begin to wonder what on earth don't they understand at Lego? (It's quite simple really: there is a large swath of the Lego community that would like to see the return of a decent form of Classic Space). How can a group as a whole can be so obtuse in front of so much evidence? We'll probably never know...

Because the AFOL demograph, while very vocal, only accounts for a very small percentage of TLG's customer base. The question is, would today's children want it?

We are about to find out with the Lightyear spaceship set!
@HOBBES:
While we have outsized spending habits, AFOLs are a significant, yet small, portion of their customer base. Classic Space fans are a vocal, yet small, contingent of the AFOL community. They have sales data from the Legends series regarding rereleasing vintage sets, and they have the various Benny sets from TLM and TLM2 to see how Space does in the current market…with an IP boost from kids who had no idea what Classic Space was when they got their first Benny. Oh yeah, and they also know how well Star Wars sells.
This is the sort of thing that would be very popular with a narrow customer base, but without a Big Bang release to help draw kids’ interest, I doubt it would be the sales juggernaut many expect. These Lightyear sets, on the other hand, will appeal to Classic Space fans, Toy Story fans, Pixar fans, and kids who go see their first Pixar film this summer.

"YES!!!
NEW WINDSCREEN!!! And other space parts.
Today is a good day, even if this movie ends up being mediocre trash like so much of Disney’s recent output. "
Tell me you've never watched Encanto, Raya and The Last Dragon, Luca, Soul, Turning Red, and Onward without telling me you've never watched Encanto, Raya and The Last Dragon, Luca, Soul, Turning Red, and Onward.
These sets have a strange appeal to me. Reminds me of something I never knew I needed, even that I never knew I knew of.
The minifigure variants being spread across all the sets is a wee bit disappointing, but I totally understand that from LEGO's marketing perspective. For people whose budget isn't so tight, it's great to get variation in such a small wave.
What part is the engine exhaust? Looks like three non-LEGO clips on the end - is it part of some sort of ball-shooter? I see the centre is a minifig grappling hook.

They are differential housings

There are just as many gears(2) in this set (two small bevel gears inside the differentials) as there are in the "Technic" Jeep Wrangler. To be fair, the Jeep also has a small turntable which has cogs around it and may serve as a 'gear'.
So... does the placard mean this is the UCS version of the XL-15?!
Seriously, I like these. Robot reminds me of The Day the Earth Stood Still (classic version).
@ StyleCounselor:
Official policy is that “UCS” is restricted to the SW theme (and pay no attention to the 7784 behind the curtain). But yeah, the size combined with the style of placard is giving me strong 10026 vibes.

Always the enthusiastic enlightened encyclopedia. Thanks.
Every time I see 10026 I wish that 10300 really worked and I could go back in time and buy it! Sigh... so much pretty chrome.
Sets; much like the movie, are for me a: Um...Nooooo...
Parts though: I'm getting multiple of those canopies (although are they Translucent Yellow or Flor. Green?), also the Xyclops legs (thinking 'Industrial Walker', and a 'Skylor' Mech. Maybe more...)
