To anyone about to complain about how the 2017 one looks better, remember there’s two fighter tanks, OG battlefront and Battlefront 2 2017, with 2017 tank being the latter. This one’s based off the original it seems

I'll take 3!

They got the purple, but it still needs more Batman.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

This should not cost a cent more than the 501st BP, but I'm sure there's people who still insist on defending Lego's pricing policy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Ok, so same number of Figs, and similar set size, but 10$ more than the 501st BP? Is it just because of Mace? This is too much. If it were 30$ I’d probably get it, but 40 is too much.

By in United States,

As someone who adores the color purple, I am quite excited to see official Lego 187th legion clone troopers being a reality rather than a rumor which for the longest time I thought would be the case. The Mace Windu figure is simply icing on the cake. I actually am satisfied with the build of the vehicle, not that we really needed or asked for another Republic fighter tank. What makes me unhappy about this set is the forty dollar price point. I really did expect and hope this set to be more in the twenty five or thirty dollar range. This being said, I still will buy this set, but I cant justify buying multiple copies for army building as a result of how expensive it is.

Yeah. Walmart usually has their second shipment on sale a couple of months after the set first drops.

By in United States,

I only really care about 4 minifigs (all 3 clones and Mace). Trying to decide if it is cheaper to get the full set and part out, or just wait a few months and get the 3 minifigs off of Bricklink.

Gravatar
By in United States,

First a Clone Commander is meant to double as a Clone Pilot, and now an Airborne Trooper is meant to double as a Clone Commander?

I love LEGO, but I don't love inconsistency.

Also, I know this set is apparently based off some non-canon Black Series figures, or something... but that's not an excuse. Either just call this minifig an Airborne 187th Trooper OR just print one of the 187th clones with 4 little dots on their chest and call that one the Commander.

Gravatar

I am totally here for purple troopers! Printed arms on Mace Windu is a bonus.

Gravatar

Much better than it initially looked. Love Mace Windu and the Clones.

@JasterMereel42:
People are going to want to army-build the heck out of the Clones, so how cheap do you think they’ll go before they’ll sell out as soon as people list them? Buy and build, buy and part out, or buy and sell what you don’t want. Even if you get the same split you would have if you bought the minifigs, buyer pays the shipping.

The hasbro figure they based it off is called the commander and looks exactly like that. It is consitent to call him the commander when thats the character they are making.

Arbitrarily sticking 4 dots on his chest that isnt there on the source material nor even present on any other phase 2 commander would be "inconsistency".

Also, even though he is called a commander, you can just use him as anything you want, shocker, I know. If you want him to be an airborne trooper, go for it. You want him to be a tank pilot, go for it. What lego calls the character on the box does not dictate what it has to be used as in practice.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It's a RRP. The comments here are very informative on how to avoid excess expense. I'm glad to get this set (but, I'll likely wait for discounts).

Would I rather have a ship that wasn't just recently produced? Yes. Would I rather have this set as a battle pack as opposed to a much more expensive set? Yes. However, if this is the way we get cool new SW figures from Lego, then I'm all in.

Gravatar

I don't like the three diaoramas, but I'm getting this set the second it drops. It's not cheap, but it's all I want from LEGO. So happy!!!

I guess many forgotten that there was a 2008 version which this one reflects a lot on that one. The 2017 may be "flatter", but I prefer the 2008 more over the 2017 version

I believe all three are based off the Pandemic model. The sticker detail on the nose is meant to look like that version. And TX-130 in Battlefront II didn't get added to the game until 2019.

No Bulba, it's an odd mix between both versions. It's as tall as the OG version, but lacks side detail like the 2017 one.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Maybe do some research before criticising everything.
I give credit to LEGO for making an accurate Clone Commander. In-universe the 187th Commander uses a helmet similar to an airborne trooper's helmet.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The design is fine but shame on them for more misleading photos, those white stickers look horribly color-mismatched in reality.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The tank is still in last place compared to it's two predecessors, but it's not as bad as it looked from the leaked images.
I think LEGO did a fantastic job with the minifigures, and they don't deserve all the hate that they get.
I agree with the price being too high though.
The 501st BP had 20 more pieces than this set, yet retailed for $10 less.
The only standout factor to this set is Mace having arm printing, but that doesn't justify the cost in my opinion.
Regardless, I'll be picking at least one up. I'll see how long I can hold off getting it, so I might be able to get it on discount. Or, I could get it for May the 4th.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

The minifigures are nice, the build is garbage.
Not worth 40€ in my book but with a 20% discount, maybe...

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think it looks pretty good, considering the limitations of the official LEGO, as opposed to MOCs. Looks like you could mod it pretty easily, though maybe you'd loose the driver in the front.

So, how faithful to the originals is it? There's always danger of inaccuracy wheny big parts are being used (like the canopy and the large slopes here). I didn't play any of the games and I have the 2017 version (which I quite like). Would I like this?

It is not very faithful to anything in particular.

I believe it was intended to be, but the odd mix of pieces and angles make this one stand out, and not in a good way either. Especially the tall middle section which in my opinion looks atrocious. The pylons look good enough.

To address the inaccuracy because of big pieces used, there was a ~20 piece buffer for this set. The 501st set which many people seem to be comparing this set to, had 20 more pieces than this set yet retailed for $10 less. More pieces should definitely have been used to rough up the sides a little bit. At this point, even stickers are better than nothing at all.

I understand using big pieces to accommodate the X-Wing windscreen piece (and also why it was used because it looked accurate) but the piece should've either been shrunk or just omitted.

If you're a minifigure collector, you could either pay this set's price just for the minifigures (which look great) and put all the parts in a parts bin, or you could BrickLink all the minifigures separately.

As a lot of people are saying, this new tank is in many ways a degradation compared to its predecessors. Your 2017 version would be more than sufficient for you if you quite like it. I like it too, just never picked it up.

Hope this helps.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the oddly printed kama! I think the main thing that makes it look so bad is that the kama doesn't cover enough of the front leg surface.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Is anyone annoyed that the main canopy piece doesn't rest flush? I can't unsee that gap. Not sure what that's about, but there is clearly a gap - it can be seen in all of the pictures.

It looks like the top edge rests on a 1x2 panel. Lower that one plate and it might close up the gap. Of course, it might make it harder to open the cockpit, if the gap is intentional.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Definitely waiting for the price to drop first, but there are strong odds I'll grab this one. Always had a soft spot for the Fighter Tank and those minifigures are glorious. It'll be nice to get my hands on a Mace that isn't the terrifying Clone Wars version. :P

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Much better images than the initial reveal, a bit pricey but cool.

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

The 187th Legion is non-canon in the first place; some creative liberties with a Fighter Tank won't hurt. Purple is my favorite color of course, and I like that the number 187 is a semiprime. Since this Fighter Tank is an amalgamation of other designs including Battlefront II's, I might consider this since I collect videogame-specific Star Wars sets (currently I own 75226).

Gravatar
By in Australia,

IMO this set epitomises everything that’s wrong with LEGO Star Wars at the moment. Compared to the AAT it’s a win but compared to the 501st set it’s a massive step in the wrong direction.

Build looks alright, 2017 was scaled much better of course. Figures are cool enough, more clones would be nice but the droids are what kills me. Why is it still only 2 battle droids? The perceived value of the set would be much greater if there were like 10 battle droids… and that’s not unreasonable to ask because there are many historical examples of lego including a large number of droids in a set.

EA Battlefront 2 released in 2017, but the TX-130 was not in the game until an update in 2019. All of the Lego TX-130 tanks are based on the classic Lucasarts design, although this latest one does have the smooth cockpit side panels of the EA tank, it still shares more details with the original.

Price seems okay for what it is.
I think it looks like a very fun toy for the kids.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think it looks way better compared to the first reveal. The clones, and Mace look pretty good. Noticed the branding on the box (Ahsoka's clone), suggesting that this is a Clone Wars theme set despite the source material, which is indeed consistant with the Commander's appearance and helmet design. Love the droid on the back of the box, looks like he's surrendering. Wherever this tank and the 187th were deployed I guess they're hedging their bets by setting the box art in a desert landscape.

Now that you say it, that is indeed what the 2017 nose stickers represent. It's just that the overall shaping of that one looks a lot like the canon model (if you ledft those nose stickers off). It's just that especially the top of the 2017 model and the new one look a lot like the canon version in shaping and because they do not have a turret near the hatch.
