Build Together: more sets added
Posted by Huw,
You may recall that late last year a new feature called Build Together was added to the Instruction Plus app, which facilitates building sets collaboratively.
We tested it with one of the sets that was included in the pilot programme (10270 Bookshop) and had great fun doing so.
The app has just been updated: 16 more sets have been added, and the algorithm has been improved, incorporating feedback from beta testers and fan media.
If you have any of the sets listed after the break, and willing volunteers to build with, I encourage you to give it a go. It provides a very different and engaging building experience, and it's a great group activity.
The sets that have been added are:
- 41702 Canal Houseboat
- 41703 Friendship Tree House
- 43203 Aurora, Merida and Tiana's Enchanted Creations
- 60316 Police Station
- 60317 Police Chase at the Bank
- 60320 Fire Station
- 60329 School Day
- 60330 Hospital
- 60350 Lunar Research Base
- 71776 Jay and Nya's Race Car EVO
- 75322 Hoth AT-ST
- 76183 Batcave: The Riddler Face-Off
- 80032 Chang'e Moon Cake Factory
- 80033 Evil Macaque's Mech
- 80034 Nezha's Fire Ring
- 80035 Monkie Kid's Galactic Explorer
They join the six that were available for the test phase:
- 60307 Wildlife Rescue Camp
- 60292 Town Centre
- 60291 Family House
- 60302 Wildlife Rescue Operation
- 10270 Bookshop
- 31097 Townhouse Pet Shop & Café

@Huw, will you add this feature as an identifier or tag in the database? When this becomes more widespread, it would be nice to search for sets with this feature.
@woosterlegos, that's a good idea...
My copy of 60316 is already built, but I have been planning to get 60329.Maybe I'll try it out then with my nephews.
Pleased to see a lot of representation from themes I collect here (Ninjago and Monkie Kid especially)! Of course, coming so long after release means I've already built all those Monkie Kid sets. Jay and Nya's Race Car EVO was a "maybe" on my wish list, so I might pick it up and try this out with my parents just to get a feel for it.
I'm surprised 71765 is not included in this list. It would totally fit considering that each vehicle have their dedicated bags.

Maybe for that very reason is why it is not included.
What do you suppose the odds are of getting vintage sets in here some day? When I don't feel like digging up manuals from my bin in the garage (which is usually the case), my solution is to just come here and find the pdf. If there's no PDF, it's off to good ol' Peeron which hasn't changed in 20 years.
The main downside (when not building together, or storing instructions) is that those sets come with many smaller instructions of different sizes.
Also 60295 : Stunt Show Arena seems to use the same system, it has 6 instruction manuals with 8 bags.
4 builds use just 1 bag, 2 builds use 2 bags, so can build together with 6 people at the same time.
Technically even more people can build if they open bag 7 and use instruction via app and build the red and blue cars.
Some of these already split up the building among side builds so I'm not sure how useful this will be for all sets but it's pretty cool for some of the bigger ones.

I don't think it will happen, but I still really hope the Death Star gets added eventually. That set would be ideal for this (big set, lots of details for everyone to enjoy). We did the Bookshop a few months back, and it was a great event, and I think the DS would be too.
How does the Hoth AT-ST work? does one person build the legs and base while the other builds the head? Looking at the instructions I don't see how that is possible. Everything else here seems reasonable with 2 or more decently sized builds but this one does not look like it would work.
@TillyTheCat, read https://brickset.com/article/68138/review-build-together and you'll find out how it works.
It's really is too bad this feature came too late for poor Ted Lasso building 10258 with his family (S1 Ep 5). If Lego had done this sooner, maybe Ted would still be married. :(
My kids got 31097 Townhouse Pet Shop & Cafe for Christmas last year so we tried out the build together option with four of us and had a great time. The kids enjoyed it enough that they disassembled the main model a few hours after we finished so they could complete the other two arrangements using the build together option. It was a unique building experience that I enjoyed more than I expected. I'm glad LEGO has expanded the portfolio of sets and hope they continue so I can build more with my kids.

Nice comment. Makes me want to try the new system.
So, Jack, Chrissy, and Janet enjoyed building Lego together? Hmm, I just can't picture it.
