Review: 60333 Bathtub Stunt Bike

Posted by ,

60333 Bathtub Stunt Bike is one of eight new sets in the action-packed Stuntz range that have been released today in the UK and Europe.

Of all the sets that have just been launched it's perhaps the most fun and quirky!

Summary

60333 Bathtub Stunt Bike, 14 pieces.
£6.99 / $7.99 / €7.99 | 49.9p/57.1c/57.1c per piece.
Buy at LEGO.com »

The best Stuntz bike released so far

  • Pocket money priced fun
  • Does not float!

The bathtub rider, whose name is apparently Sudsy Simon Tub Racer, is attired in green budgie-smugglers and a life jacket. His torso is new in this set, and the legs are new this year.

He has a huge tattoo on his back, and you have to wonder what possessed him to get inked with such a bizarre design!

He comes equipped with a helmet and snorkelling goggles and in his alternate expression he's holding his breath.

The bath, which is printed with a flaming duck motif on both sides, is designed to fit onto the standard Stuntz motorcycle frame. Gold taps and a rubber duck mascot connect to the only studs on it.

The flywheel works well, and it's possible to propel the vehicle a good few metres on smooth floors.

It's unique, fun, and priced at just £6.99 / €7.99, so what's not to like!

It's available now at LEGO.com in the UK and Europe, and is an ideal low-value item to add to your basket if you need to reach a GWP threshold. It'll be launched in the USA in August.

By in United States,

I learned a new vocabulary word from this review.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

As far as gimmicky themes go, I think Stuntz is miles away the best in years. A strong concept with really well worked out mechanics and a bit of classic Lego eccentricity. Doesn’t hurt that they’ve been pretty consistently discounted in the U.K. too.

By in Canada,

Flaming ducks? With goggles? Sold!

Gravatar
By in Germany,

If this floated...

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

I ordered a few of the new sets this morning and I think this one is possibly the one I've most been looking forward to.
Just have to pick out minifigs of three old men to push it around for a Last of the Summer Wine scene.

Which one, the proper word for faucet? :-)

Ernie from Sesame Street needs to be on this tub-bike.

“Budgie-smugglers“? Be careful Googling that one…

Gravatar
By in United States,

“Budgie-smugglers”?! Yikes. That one is new! I think this little set is terrific.

Gravatar
By in Finland,

I really hope this inspires them to make a regular bathtub mold where a figure can actually sit in!

It would be a perfect accessory to go with 71025-2

Gravatar
By in United States,

“Budgie smugglers” sounds so vulgar. Maybe consider calling them banana hammocks instead?

@Bricklestick:
Hey, no apps to fuss with!

@Murdoch17:
I’ve been thinking the same thing since it was first unveiled.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Will have to get this, but can confirm that while I share the name Simon I prefer swimming shorts...

You beat me to the punch.

Always good to learn some new Anglo-lingo for the summer. Poor budgies!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is a great little sub-theme!
My only disappointment is that one of the riders isn't called 'Cupid Stuntz'..... all done in the best possible taste of course.

More Aussie-lingo... popularised in the UK with the arrival here of Neighbours and Home & Away!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm getting this in August for sure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Holding his breath or about to puke? I could see that face going well with the 71011 animal control officer skunk.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

If I get this, i'll make Jestro the rider, from the batthub from Jestro's Volcano Lair.

Gravatar
By in United States,

this might be enough tog et me back into city sets!

(also, "budgie-smugglers ahahahahahahaha)

Gravatar
By in United States,

We prefer speedos in the US, thank you very much

Gravatar
By in United States,

Another suggestion for an alternate minifig: the shower Santa from 2824.

Gravatar
By in Chad,

When I'm performing high-speed stunts I also like to have spiky metal accessories right behind me.

I totally agree! Each of my kids and their cousins (girls and boys, aged 8-14) got a Stuntz bike in their stocking last year and they spent a ton of time racing, crashing them and playing with them! The little fly-wheel really works well - they were a huge hit with everyone!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love when Lego gets silly. This set is fantastic.

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

This is it, we have reached the very top. All other sets are outshined by this work of art.
... Unless we get a UCS variant.

I really want a UCS variant.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is the first of the summer City releases I bought. Sainsbury's had them in last week so I snapped one up.

It's so silly that I couldn't resist it.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Just the right amount of LEGO silliness.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It's gloriously stupid and I must have it

Gravatar
By in United States,

Best set of the year candidate

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

As if everything we already knew about this wasn't good enough, there's also that huge rubber duck tattoo on his back! :D

First City set I'll get since I was a child, back when it was called Town.

Gravatar
By in United States,

For me, the one thing that would have pushed this set from a 9/10 up to a 10/10 would be a new goggle print on the rubber duck, to match the decoration on the side.

Now that you know what a bathtub is, maybe you should use one. ;)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Brilliant little set.

And now wait for some Lego fan getting that tattoo for real :-)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love the Con is doesn't float. This is definitely a buy for me. If only the swim cap piece was more common could make a whole swim team!

Gravatar
By in Italy,

I must say, it warmed the cockles of my heart to see some Aussie slang thrown into the review!

Love that back tattoo.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Aussie slang taking over the world!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Add me to the list that finds this irresistibly silly!

Gravatar
By in Italy,

So, we get no new Goats or Monkeys because "new molds are expensive", BUT a bathtub-shaped motorcycle was greenlighted?
Seriously?

Gravatar
By in United States,

60333 in a nutshell:

"John Freeman got on his motorcycl and said "its time for me to live up to my family name and face full life consequences" so he had to go.

John Freeman ramped off the building and did a backflip and landed. He kept driving down the road and made sure there was no zombies around because he ddint have weapon."

This is gold. This text/email should be send to Lego execs by the millions.

It might not give us the goats/monkeys but at least it might stop them from giving us unbelievably lame and stupid answers as to why they are unwilling to do something which is incredibly easy to do (for a manufacturing company involved in the production of moulded plastic pieces)

And this part has so many uses - it will be used everywhere in the coming sets....

I don’t. It limits the torso’s uses.

Yes, there are ways of removing LEGO print, but I would rather not have to.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

A serious contender when the time comes to vote for best set of the year. Well done LEGO!

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I think the tattoo looks great but limits the torso's uses elsewhere.
This set looks to be very fun!
I might get one, before all the prices go up in September.

Gravatar
By in Russian Federation,

I think €8 for minifig and motorcycle is too expensive.

(But the set is very fun looking)

Glad to be educated on that (same to @CCC ). Thanks. More reason to check out those shows. And, that does make more sense to be Aussie-lingo.

@JGW3000
NO, No, no, no. Not even Speedo™ wants you to call them speedos (protect the IP). As @PurpleDave pointed out, every sensible American calls that what it is... a 'banana hammock'!

Apparently, those less well-endowed or fresh from chilly waters smuggle a budgie. :()

@Huw Awesome review, per usual. There's nothing like a Brckset post to make you smile or laugh in these uncertain times.

Absolutely! Ha, what a great and sad joke. Lego... what a comedian.

And, then there is the joke made by @Classique and Lego. They will put a new print on this $8 tub, but not the curved pieces of the $200 UCS Landspeeder! Ah, Lego, you ol' dirty trickster! You kill me, you really do....

I'm free of my vow not to say anything negative about Lego. They just canceled my previously confirmed order for the Ferrari book saying that they are now SOLD OUT. Sounds like it's going to be another crap call to CS to demand something for my continued frustration and trouble with buying plastic toys (and, now... books). :P

Why do I bother?...

Gravatar

Bit of a stupid set. Might get a few.

I don’t know about budgie smugglers, banana hammocks or speedos. That looks like a thong to me.
Cue Sisqo.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@CarolinaOnMyMind:
True, but they’ve never been able to print the back of the swimsuit. It goes straight from dual-molded board shorts to dental floss. The swimsuits that Speedo is famous for were developed for mens’ swim competitions. They look like shrunken briefs. Board shorts fit loose around the legs, and the material fluttering in the water creates unwanted drag. The Speedo racing swimsuit hugs the body, has a low waist, is somewhat full in the seat, and the material is stretchy enough that it doesn’t cling like nylon board shorts.

Modern swimsuit technology has mostly left these in the dust. Materials with less drag than shaved human skin resulted in bodyskins that cover everything except head/hands/feet being used in Olympic swim events in the early 2000’s, but suits that cover that much of the body were banned from competition for the unfair advantage they provided. The weirdest alternative I’ve seen since the ban is Michael Phelps swimming in what looked like yoga pants.

By in United States,

@STUNT:
Sure. Give me a lake of mercury, and I can make it happen. Except the “riding a motorcycle” part. Best I can do is a bike, but it’ll probably need those super-wide tires people use for off-roading. And I’ll need a hazmat suit, in case I fall over because the tires won’t really have any traction to help me maintain balance. Come to think of it, a motorcycle with a low-hanging bathtub might be the ideal way to drive on mercury (besides, you know, cars). The tub would probably work like a skid plate to help you stay more or less upright.

Probably better not translate this....

Ask for a thong in Australia and you definitely wouldn't get what you were expecting!!

Oh, I was expecting something in the drinking or budgie vein. We also call flip-flops 'thongs' in the western US.

It's not the Googling the would worry me. I would be more worried for the poor bugger trying to smuggle the budgies that way (and even more worried again for the poor budgies). And as for blaming the Aussies for the name, I believe it was a Pom that started calling them budgie smugglers and it just caught on for a while in Australia.

I'm not too sure, it works well for the Stuntz theme as the sets are supposed to be wacky/weird in style. For something more "Realistic" it may not come across as well.
