Edit: TY for replies

Those are 3x3 round tiles I think

Those eye tiles in the centre - going to be useful!

Notice the conspicuous lack of Disney tax...

I think I want 41964 for all the large plates and bricks.

By in Poland,

I just want Donald. Who likes Mickey anyway? xD

Or maybe they have seen demand for this kind of product, and you’re not the target audience.

So, what's the red tile with the two white ovals supposed to be? My first thought was Spider-ham's snout, and while he is owned by Disney, it can't be him for obvious reasons.

@CapnRex101:Maybe Marvel? Although I do seem to remember a girl-targeted line of Star Wars merch a few years back...

That's Mickey's buttons on his pants

I didn’t realise that dots had evolved to the point where we’ve now got stitch-on patches. That’s a really good idea.

I'm not a huge Disney fan but as a Dots fan there's some exciting stuff here! The bracelet pack has a great selection of bands in classic colors (red, blue, black, and white). The red stitch-on patch and the red and white bag tags are also great recolors!

I love the traditional Lego color palate, too.

I could see a lot of these tiles being stand-ins for pins in MOCs.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Those little printed tiles are very cute, might have to pick up the mega pack just for those.

By in Portugal,

It's quite impressive how much adding a disney skin to even DOTS of all things jacks up the price this much.

I suppose it's appealing to the more casual consumer base.

Mostly just here to rag on Mickey Mouse for being lame. And yet we’ve gotten a LOT of Lego merch with him as the focal character. Just seems weird!

Disney Pricesses seems more suited for Dots. Marvel Dots could be popular as well. And Star Wars seems like a no brainer - Baby Yoda (who has no other name) or Soccer Ball Droid or Droid on a Unicycle or Droid on Little Chicken Legs seem like good choices.

Next year we’ll likely have P0-G0 the bouncing tiny droid from S3 of the Mandalorian, too! Wonderful original characters these days.

Nah, Lego has been hard carried by licensed themes for the past decade & it's evident as most original themes within the past few years have flopped hard"

I think LEGO is trying too hard to keep making another Ninjago. That, or what would’ve been an original theme usually ends up in Ninjago. Personally, I don’t mind too much. It gives us sets we otherwise wouldn’t get. My only gripe is I wish the Ninjas got different allies more consistently. Think that would go a long way in making each year feel like it’s own distinct theme, ya know?

It doesn’t help LEGO really drops the ball when they market new themes most of the time. We all know what happened to Hidden Side And Vidiyo. Licensed themes sell themselves, but I wonder why LEGO struggles with non-licenses outside Ninjago.

One of the most popular animated characters of all time? Yes, very odd…

I like the white tray

Gravatar
By in United States,

41947 says it comes with 22 “surprise designs”. The fourth image shows a closeup of 22 different printed tiles:

4x hands (2x teal, 2x yellow)
4x Mickey (purple, pink, teal, yellow)
2x Minnie (purple, pink)
4x large Mickey symbols
2x Steamboat Willie (Mickey & Minnie)
Pluto (yellow)
Goofy (purple)
Donald (pink)
Mickey’s buttons
Minnie’s spots
Tiny Mickey symbols

That’s 22 total, but the package art also shows Daisy (red) and Minnie (red) on the flat black bracelet on back, and Minnie (yellow) on the white bracelet. All three are also visible in the center left of the tray in the box front image.

@watcher21:
Neither. It’s a 3x3 round tile, which was also used for the Kevin/Bob eyes in 75551, eight other sets with printed designs, and unprinted in 48 other sets. Currently, there is no 4x4 round tile. The closest they’ve done has no stud notches on the bottom, two studs on top, and was used for TLBM Polka Dot Man, followed by Frozone.

They all had app integration and poor apps. Hidden Side, Vidiyo, Nexo Knights, Dimensions. Chasing digital experiences might be the future but Lego isn't doing it right and it doesn't seem to work for entire product lines.

@SolidState:
Dimensions was actually a fantastic game. Sure, there were a few bugs that had to be worked out, but this was considering each new IP came with a massive hub world that was like a game unto itself. Unlike other TTL games, they figured out how to make you interact with both the toys (building and rebuilding the various vehicles and accessories), and the toy portal (switching pucks between three different sections to perform specific on-screen actions and solve puzzles). I think the two things that did it in were the massive expense (well over $1000 to reach 100% completion, though you can play through the entire Story Mode of the main game with just the three Starter Kit characters and the Batmobile accessory), and the timing. I may be the only member of my LUG who got the entire game, including a PS4 Supergirl starter kit, and the Green Arrow polybag. The only other person I know of who was trying to get “everything” was really only seeking cheap pucks for his son, and didn’t need all the minifigs and models (given how desired some of the minifigs were, he actually found quite a few people who were willing to sell him cheap pucks, if not give them to him for free).

The timing issue is that they were already straddling different generations of PlayStation and XBox, which required different copies of the game, but Nintendo launched the Switch during Year 2. The Switch is not really compatible with Dimensions. Being a home console that could be undocked for use as a portable handheld, the portal base didn’t have a way to connect to it. Character and accessory collections got way too large to stick in your pocket, even if that problem could have been overcome. They also went back to cartridges to support the handheld design, which limited how much data could be packed in to the game itself. The Wii U also had a handheld, but it was tethered to the main console where the optical drive was located. It was fine if you stayed in the same room, but signal strength didn’t really allow roaming through the entire home…and the portal was still physically connected to the base unit.

There was also the fact that the TTL market was fairly bloated at the time. If they’d released Dimensions one or two years earlier, there would have been less competition, plus they could have rounded out Year 3 before the Switch was announced. It still would have been expensive (even more, with a third year of content to buy), but maybe they would have felt there was enough ROI to finish it. As it stands, this is the only home console game besides The Hobbit that they cut short of what was originally promised.

At long last, I now have the parts to finish my Holy Plastic Shrine to the Mouse Eternal.

As the clone-brand-brick Illumination Minions set burns brightly as an offering across the surface of 41964, I shall sprinkle tiles from 41963 around it. I shall bind 41947 to my wrists and await the arrival of the true Michael Rodent from the eldritch abyss.

There, my soul shall be brought into the great Disney Vault (which is a real life vault and don't tell me otherwise) and I shall gaze upon the frozen visage of Walt Disney himself (which is totally under the Cinderella castle and don't tell me otherwise.)

I mean ... yeah these look cool, I guess, I could buy one or two for no particular reason.

...and here I thought Disney was inside the Haunted Mansion! It all makes so much sense now. Also, I want to go on record saying that I welcome our new animated overlords. All Hail Michael Rodent - the once, current, and future king!

@GBP_Chris:
Speaking of which, most actual-LEGO-bricks Illumination Minions sets have been restocked on LEGO.com (but not LEGO Stores), so you can go watch the movie with the biggest July 4 weekend opening, and then go build some of the sets based on it. Gru’s motorcycle and the minifig pack aren’t listed (so ironically you can’t get a Gru minifig anymore), Bob’s polybag is Out Of Stock, and the giant Minions is backordered, but the plane, Kung Fu, and Gru’s lab (sans Gru) are back. They may have held some stock over, because the last time I’d checked, all that was left was the Bob polybag and the two Brickheadz sets.

Thank you for the update, my friends and I were going to go to see Minions 2: The Rise Of Gru (in theaters July 1st) and get the sets as the meme demands, but I have heard the voice of Michael Rodent from beyond the realm of the living and will be saving my pennies for these sets instead - in accordance with his righteous demands.

If I remember one thing from taking a year of Spanish in high school, it’s that “tiburón” means “shark” (I asked). But if I remember two things, it’s the day our teacher wrote “Miguelito Ratón” on the chalkboard, and one of the girls in class said, “Mickey Rat?” Little did she know…

Mattel already did back when TLG was losing money, but they bought that other company instead after TLG unseated Hasbro for largest toy maker in the world.

Ah so now not even DOTS is safe from licensing.

Can't wait for the Mickey Mouse Classic tub and the.... never mind that's the only theme I can think of that doesn't have licensed stuff.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like that they are finally making a white bracelet... but it's not worth paying $35 to get just one of those. Sadly, if the new B&P is an example, we won't be able to buy this new bracelet from LEGO, either.

Dots had a licensing tie in with Levi's jeans previously.

I'm not sure what it is that bothers me about Dots going down the licensing path. Maybe it's that Dots showed a path back to the original creativity and imagination that Lego was known for before Star Wars came along?

Maybe it feels about as odd as if City or Friends had an explicit Levi's store insert. (Am I right? It's been half a century since Shell).

In my opinion, some characters that are best-suited for "iconic" status are better as brand images but weak as characters themselves. Mickey Mouse and Mario are prime examples to me.

I'm a big Nintendo fan but Mario is long in gameplay and extremely short on backstory. Mickey is nice to have around but he's probably near the bottom of interesting animated characters.
