Today, the LEGO Group announces its latest vintage car set, the iconic LEGO Chevrolet Camaro Z28. The new set is a detailed recreation of one of the slickest muscle cars of all time, beloved by automotive enthusiasts from when it launched in the late 60s through to today.

The new LEGO set brilliantly detailed with functional elements including a working steering wheel, an intensely detailed engine and opening and closing doors. Allowing builders to customise the car to their desired design, the vehicle comes in gloss black with the iconic racing stripes available in red, white or grey. You can also choose to build it as a hard top or a convertible, plus choose classic or hideaway headlights to complete the look.

Chevrolet Camaro Product Marketing Manager Harlan Charles said, “The 1969 Camaro Z28 has been turning heads on and off the roads for decades, which is why we are so proud to see it come to life in a brand-new way via LEGO bricks. Anyone who loves the iconic design of the 1969 Camaro Z28 now has the thrill of building this set and displaying it in their home.”

LEGO Designer Sven Franic said, “With its classic lines and sleek design, the 1969 Camaro Z28 is unrivalled in its elegance – which is why it was such a wonderful inspiration for this LEGO design. By building this set, you can envision yourself at the wheel, and all but feel the rumble of the engine taking you down an open road.”

Vintage car lovers and LEGO fans alike can now recreate this ultra-stylish model in brick form, creating a fantastic 1458 piece to display. The LEGO Chevrolet Camaro Z28 is available to buy from 1st August 2022 via LEGO Stores and LEGO.com.

By in Canada,

First day buy for me. Looks fantastic.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Wow, that’s a surprise! Great car, but the price is 20€/$/£ too high.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Great model, will wait for a discount. Eventually I'll add it to the collection.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

I love 60s muscle cars, so this is great. Wish it was a Chevelle SS tho

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

$150 or €170. Lego is really pushing things to find how much people are willing to pay

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

I count at least 10 stickers (not including license plates which always are), and more than 10 cents per piece. That's rough, considering the 911 has prints and is about the same number of pieces and has the dual model build with more details. The 911 is going up in price though, so...

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Fantastic looking car and would be a welcome addition to my ever growing collection of cars, but that price... I won't buy it for that amount of money.

Gravatar
By in United States,

$150 seems pretty well aligned with the last couple similarly sized cars in this line, like 10265 and 10295.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It looks incredible and I absolutely love the side mirror part usage, but it's unfortunate they couldn't print the fuzzy dice. I assume it's to avoid promoting gambling but they look unfinished.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Is it me or could they have done without a specific new wheel arch piece? I loved the way they did it on the mustang and Delorean without needing a new part. Feels a bit cheap to design a new single purpose part for this.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I think it looks great, but I'll hold out for a Speed Champions version. Easier to find space for and much, much cheaper. Not to mention, a matching minifig as well.

I agree and don't forget the Porsche jumps to $170 in a couple weeks. Looks nice and I'll add it to my list but there are so many sets in line in front of it. sigh

Gravatar
By in United States,

Weird that the stickers with the Z/28 logo and reflector are swapped in a couple of the pictures. The Z/28 logo should be in the front, with the reflector behind. The picture that shows the rear of the car and the “customizable” view have them reversed, with the reflector in the front.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Lego US site is showing $169.99, not $149.99.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Instant buy for me to sit next to the Mustang and the rest of my cars

Gravatar
By in Jordan,

My first impression was that it looks very similar to the Mustang, but seeing the convertible version has won me over.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The USA price on Lego.com is actually noted as $169.99 (not $149.99).
It doesn't appear that the press kits were updated with the upcoming price hikes.

Gravatar
By in Luxembourg,

Nice. I like the gimmick 1x1 bricks on the rear view mirror and the fact we can different coloured stripes. Looks sleeker than the already brilliant 10265. Just a shame about the price: 150€ would have been nice, but alas I think those good old times are gone.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks pretty good as a convertible

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Fantastic model. The customization options are great! But, in this economy, lego won't see my money for this. Even with 30% discount it will be just too much for my budget.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Same amount as the mustang…

What’s everyone complaining about?

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Grey ice lollies as wing mirrors is some good parts usage.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Overall looks great. However, they are missing rear quarterpanel vents in front of the rear wheel well. This was iconic on the 69 Camaro. Hopefully they will rectify that with a sticker or print

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Great model, ridiculous price!

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Wow £150? I'm guessing the other Icons/Creator Expert Cars will in kind incur a pretty substantial price hike come 1 Aug.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

I think the poll should include a new option that says "Yes, once it's on discount". Because with LEGO's pricing nowadays, I find myself doing that for a lot of sets that I would have instantly bought on day one before... (this one included)

(Although I suppose it's probably implied in the "No. It's too expensive" but that one sounds a little too definite to me...)

"The Delorean needed a new part to get the shaping on the back correct. LEGO also does this all the time when it comes to cars, the white Porshe. The VW buggy both got new pieces for the arch."

These new wheel arches look more single purpose to me than the Porsche bow or the VW rounded slope quarter circle. Only time will tell ofcourse.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Fantastic look. Love the dice.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Dangit, the Mustang was literally the only car I could recognize, thanks to its two supposedly distinctive stripes! Now how will my man friends respect me?!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Suggestion: Lego needs to come up with a 4-wide or longer cheese slope to reduce the gaps in multiple 2-wide slope arrangements.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love it but it’s missing the gills to make it a ‘69… slight modifications and I’m turning it into a ‘67.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

New fender pieces! Love the part usage for the mirrors. :)

Indeed. Didn't see those right away. That is juniorization gone way too far on this kind of model imho. Even enough to keep me from buying this one when it's on sale.
It reminds me of certain MegaBlocks vehicles.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Want :)
I just hope they will keep making the BTTF car as I still don't have bought it. It's always soldout!

Gravatar
By in Croatia,

I would buy it if it is Speed Champions set

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Yup. That sure is another giant car. It's been awhile, so here we go again. But this time it's a Chevrolet. Haven't had one of those yet.

The color kind of reminds me of 4896 Roaring Roadsters
I like the popsicle mirrors

Sorry for my lack of enthusiasm, I'm not a car guy. Nor a- *looks up price tag* 170 euro? That doesn't seem too outrageous? I expected something like 200 or something because that sounds more crazy. Maybe I'm just getting numb from the constant stream of highly expensive D2C sets. Not that I'll drop that much on a single set anytime soon though.

If you like this you do you. That's great. If you're annoyed at my opinion, sorry for the inconvenience. I had like 2 hours of sleep.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

Man, what a beauty.

Gravatar
By in Finland,

Oh man, it's just gorgeous. This just might be the first time I'm going to buy a Lego Creator Expert (Icons) car in this scale. Absolute beauty.

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

Looks like a less interesting build than the Mustang, but I'll probably get it anyway...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Are those some kind of angle/wedge tiles on the top of the front bumper?

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Those new tiles on the front freak me out.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’m in love.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I finally picked up the Mustang a month ago and built it last week. Enjoyed the build on that one and I really liked how easy it was to customize the Mustang to the "souped-up" version. Its nice that they provide a way to customize the colors for this Camaro and to convert it to a convertible. It's not a day one purchase, but I would definitely like to add it to my collection at some point down the road.

Gravatar
By in United States,

For $170 this is a very easy pass.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Amazing! I love these large scale Creator vehicles! Keep ‘em coming please :D

Agree, while i do get almost everything on a discount, these upcoming price hikes really push it, it's to the point i'd rather wait for 30-40% sales outside lego and lego's affiliates, it's simply too much.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Such mixed feelings, again. Overall, it looks so great! I feel they captured the lines very well, the only bit I'm not too fond of is the roof that looks too thick and square. But hey, at least they thought of that, just take it off! And in this case I very much like the additional pieces for alternate colors: not too many (so shouldn't crank up the price too much), and quite easy to change. And I love what they did with the axes next to the rear license plate, very clever parts usage! And those fuzzy dice...

But then you look a bit closer, and a few things start to bother me....that you have to change a few parts for the headlight covers, okay, not ideal but I don't think they could have don better here. And this set would have benefited from chrome plated or at least drum lacquered pieces, but grey does the job here. But the stickers....those even look terrible in the official pictures. Milky windshield. And some visible and totally unnecessary color puke here and there. Really Lego, are you guys blind or do you just don't care about quality?

And then you see the price and it all falls apart. €170. Are they completely out of their mind? For that kind of money I would expect a premium quality product. Not one where they so obviously cut corners. Can you really blame people for buying cheap clone brands instead? I feel bad for the designer who did an excellent job here, only to see his work ruined by other departments.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was going to say the price on the Press Release is definitely lower than what it will end up being since they are raising prices across the board everywhere else. So while I like it and I have collected the cars for a while, I may have to pass. LEGO gets enough of my money, so I'll have to see which sets to quit buying.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

In Canada the price is now $209.99, seems the pricing is fluid based on TLG whims lol

Gravatar

@Quinnly said:

Not in € it isn't. The mustang is 139.99€. It will increase to 169.99€ by the end of the summer. So it will be the same in the end thanks to inflation but was cheaper at the start.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Disappointed in all the stickers. They really cheapen the look of he finished car, especially when compared to the previous sets in this family. I wish someone would explain why these can't be printed pieces.

Gravatar
By in United States,

my son's Z car. got to get for him

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Would like to see a picture from the back with the roof on!
It seems to be missing from the official photos!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I will definitely be getting this. The mustang needs some company. I really like the way this looks. I remember wanting to own this car, but eventually ended up getting a Pontiac Formula instead, as I actually prefer Pontiac over Chevy.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

And still no Alfa Romeos, maybe the next... always the next...

I like it. But, not for me unless minifig size. If it was the Chevelle, I'd probably have to get it. That was my car in HS.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

If you've got the Mustang, this is a must. It's utterly gorgeous.

Gravatar
By in Austria,

Glad I didn't get the Mustang, this one looks much nicer.
But I'm only gonna get it if I find it at 120€ or less.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

If they don't have the factory capacity to produce the printed tiles, release one Creator Expert/Icons vehicle per year~! That way is friendly to everyone's wallet too. But if they are just cutting corners, not because of production issues, then I am more than very disappointed.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very nice

Gravatar
By in Australia,

The prices listed are wrong - they are missing the increase in price.

The Aud pricing is $249.99

these were not reflectors, they were real working lights

Gravatar
By in United States,

I wonder if all of the black parts are available in yellow, I had this car but mine was yellow, would be cool to redo it in yellow

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Lollipop (part 30222) as side mirror is an inspired choice but axes (part 39802) on each side of the plate; that's a clever npu.

Interesting that the 'original' is red with black stripes but the model is black with (white, grey, red stripes). I think I would have preferred it in red. Looking forward to see how they did the tiling (and studs) of the front bumper - I'm expecting the parts (at least some) are continuing under the bonnet.

@gromit6 You won't be able to do it in yellow (for a while) because the wheel arches are new.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@SolidState: Considering that they've had dice in sets before, I don't think that's the reason they aren't printed. My guess is that is because they couldn't print all the sides, which would leave the dice looking even more unfinished.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Although I'm a Ford guy and love my LEGO Mustang, this looks pretty sweet too. Might pick it up at some point, although I'm fully expecting the price to increase to $180 or $200 in the near future, probably before it's released. In which case I will probably not buy it lol.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Fantastic design! So creative… I love it, but in the current economic climate, I have to focus on a single theme that I collect (regrettably, Star Wars). Maybe next year, if it’s still around. I would really love to see a Smokey And The Bandit version of a Firebird Trans Am…

Gravatar

They couldn't have done it in red.... Nobody would have recognised what Ferrari it was supposed to be!

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

nice to see LEGO keeping up with copying Mega-construx parts...

Gravatar
By in Italy,

170 euros is a freaking robbery
that's way too expensive and more expensive than the other prices (except for Australian dollar which is the most expensive one) It should have costed 150 euros like... why Lego?

Gravatar
By in South Korea,

Good build and horrible price, but why stickers? The porsche had prints.....

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It seems to be one sort of car?

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Wait for a 20% discount and I'm in.
I love the design, but € 170 for 1456 parts? Nope.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I will probably end up getting this along with all the others I have - the main problem is space and where to put it! I am thinking convertible in black with the red stripes; don't like the stickers though...

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Bautiful, but way too expensive.
It's an another set that I'd buy if it was prices more affordably.
Edit: price is at least 2x too high for that many bricks/scale of the set.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I can't speak for all economies, but in Australia, the cost of EVERYTHING has gone up a fair bit over the last few years. And then Russia took a dump on fuel prices to make it worse.

I don't get why everyone feels that Lego isn't allowed to also raise their prices on an item that is absolutely a non-essential purchase? Not to mention the quality in the designs and builds of Lego almost across the range has never been higher - there's more to value than simply parts count. Maybe take a look at the pricing on some of the other major toy brand competitors, and then get back to me with whether you think Lego is still expensive or not - I'll wait.

And anyway, you don't like the price - wait for a discount, or leave it on the shelf. Simple. If enough people vote with their wallets, Lego will course-correct.

Gravatar
By in Turkey,

I have couple of model sets, like Mini and the T1 Camper. Then I let go of such sets. Had to, partially because I suspect I've some clinical issue, I cannot open the box of my later sets. One part of me wants to keep them in the box forever, orher part wants to play the hell out of it and modify it and extend it beyond its capabilities and such. Then the boxy part resurfaces... Long story short, now everything is in its box, where they belong.

Gravatar
By in Jordan,

@Huw I just wanted to point out that this set retails for $169.99 in the US, not $149.99.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Honestly, it just looks too similar to the Ford Mustang lego set.
Just looking at the boxart, you can tell that the building technique for the roof, windshield, doors, and lots of other stuff is just the same. Even the front bumper looks a lot like it.
It just looks like it will be the exact same building experience except its black instead of blue.
Even looking at it as a picture makes me think of the Ford Mustang

Agreed! The front bumper stood out to me as well. The Mustang was great but I would be much more interested in something more varied with a radically different build

Gravatar
By in United States,

Generally, not a fan of the large car sets, but have the Mustang as I'm a huge fan of classic Mustangs. May get this as a companion.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Lego is getting amazingly greedy with their recent price tags. The 2019 Mustang was only 139,99 with a slightly higher brick count. This is exactly the same set for 30 euro's more. Ridiculous!

Yeah, its a shame. Lego dropping the ball or running dry on ideas or something.
