No GWP in the US so I guess I’ll take a gamble and wait for another promotion or double VIP to get it. I know it’ll sell out but it ??will be back in stock at some point. No time to build right now anyway. Set looks awesome though.

By in United Kingdom,

I ordered mine at the stroke of midnight. No queue to get onto the Lego site, and the Forest Hideout was still available (UK). That's my Lego budget blown now for a few months!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Sorry kids, I can’t afford it :(

Hey kids, let’s bulld our own! =D

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Ordered it a couple of minutes ago. According to the site the GWP was still available, so fingers crossed. Won't be building it for a couple of months though; this will be my Christmas Holiday build. And I didn't want the risk of being it sold out when Christmas arrives. :-)

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

It's a beautiful thing, sadly I can't realistically afford it (or have space for it, really).
But, I've already found a few techniques I'm going to use in my builds after skimming through the instructions, so at least I got something out of its existence besides jealousy.

By in Australia,

Put my order in an hour ago and it’s already on back order, so won’t be shipped till 25th August.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Ordered mine over an hour ago. Can't wait...

Only one problem occurred while ordering. I had some VIP-points which I used, but when I wanted to pay by PayPal I had to pay the full amount. Switched to creditcard and then I got to pay with the discount.

Is anyone else familair with that problem?

Yup.... I think..... trying to hold out.... can't abide lack of GWP or anything.

So much for 90 f$%%ing anniversary.

Edit: For the love of Gawd Lego, give us something?! Throw us a bone...

By in United Kingdom,

Ordered mine first thing (UK time). Got the GWP confirmed with it as well. Decided to cash in some VIP points to bring down the price to something a lot more palatable. Im not going to build it anytime soon as I don't have space for it in my apartment but couldn't wait and see it go out of stock like the delorean.

Yeah, I was excited to get the Forest Hidout but after adding it to my cart and not seeing it, I came here to see what was up...no GWP in the US...

By in United States,

I received a LEGO email stating that my Bricklink Program order of Venetian Houses and Bowling Alley will be delayed till Aug 25th. I'll try and blow my points on 10305 when those monstrosities ship. If there's a Double Points at sometime, as expensive as the castle is, I'll probably earn the points right back.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Hopefully, I'll be able to afford it in the run-up to Christmas or early next year. The delay will give me time to re-arrange my display collection to accommodate this behemoth of a building!

Gravatar

Got mine, but on back order. At least I get a little bag as a free gift instead of a cool thematically related GWP set. YAY for ANZ region. Side note anyone from the ANZ region able to see the Aston Martin DB5 speed champions set in the shop? All i can see is the fast and furious one.

By in Poland,

It's not as good as it could have been, but I'm glad because it means I won't go bankrupt.

10497 Galaxy Explorer is *the* 90th Anniversary set for me.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I don't think it will sell out, at that price point. I already bought some things on Monday, I'd love to get this but will wait for double points.

I was amazed Galaxy Explorer didn't go out of stock yet though.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Was able to buy a copy a good 15 minutes before midnight.

It is still available in Canada.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Argh, LEGO take my hard earned money ... Ordered the Galaxy Explorer on Monday and the Castle today. Hope too get the GWP, I already have one from my last order.

The castle is expensive, yes. And you never know how long it will be available or on backorder. After not getting the titanic till today it's fair to order the Castle at day 1. (That's how I try to justify this purchase to myself ;-)))

Pretty much exactly the same here!

Refreshed the webpage just on midnight and there it was, good to go with no waiting and the Forest Hideout immediately available too.

I have also well and truly blown my Lego budget for quite some time to come. I had originally intended to get the Galaxy Explorer at the same time but I think that will have to wait a while!

Thank goodness for a hefty discount from VIP points…!

It seems that either Lego FINALLY stocked up on sets properly or people are getting fed up with current prices and refuse to buy. I see all new sets available plus you can buy THREE castles at once. Let's see how it unfolds. I for one would love to buy castle but I refuse to pay so much money. If I don't find it on discount, oh well, it's just Lego.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Thought I'd be an immediate purchaser despite the hefty pricing of AUD599. Was hopeful earlier in the week that maybe I'd get a forestmen hideout as a GWP after seeing they were going to be offered in the UK (notwithstanding I bought other things I wouldn't have otherwise bought to get that GWP a month ago). Went online last night and only a silly "tote bag". I'm gonna wait a bit as I suspect I'm not alone.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Just got back from the store where I picked mine up, forest hideout GWP was readily available so its disappointing to here of some fans struggles around the globe. Does feel like lego really messed up the release and distribution on this one, which kind of sullies what should have been a fun 90th celebration.

Biggest lego purchase I've ever made, and likely ever to make. At least I can spend all those vip points on something in the future.

Gravatar
By in Norway,

Already got lured into the current GWP back when we thought it was a once off thing, so no benefit for me to buy it right now. Will cross my fingers and hope it shows up in local shops (usually 20% cheeper than ordering from lego directly), or wait for a better GWP (VIP points doesn't do anything in Norway, so don't care for double VIP eventually)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Got mine. Still available in stock in Canada. The price point is pretty high on this one, so I don't think it will sell out very easily. I think people have time to buy it in the coming weeks and months.

I’m of a similar mind, but I think that I will check my local LEGO store when they open up this morning to see if they have any GWPs in stock before I decide to put this off for a bit.

Gravatar

Gravatar
By in Canada,

In stock in Canada. Way too expensive for what it is. Hopefully the low sales won’t deter Lego from making further castle sets. It’s just we want those rejected Idea castle sets, not these cross between play and display sets that are clearly targeted towards adults…

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I knew I was going to bite eventually, and because the Forest Hideout was still available I made this a rare day 1 purchase. Together with 5.95% off from a cashback site (beginning with T) and the UK price already being better than everywhere else, it feels like a good deal for a brand new release.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I can easily wait for a GWP, or more importantly a sale (c’mon Target). I already got two Forestmen Hideouts, the first I got with a few Star Wars sets I didn’t need but wanted the GWP, the second came when I preordered the Galaxy Explorer (and another Star Wars set I didn’t need).

I doubt a $400 set could sell out that easily, and I’m afraid of how much the 100th anniversary set will cost.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is such a mess in the US. The Forest Hideout was clearly designed as a companion piece to the castle, but the entire continent of North America was out of them days before release. It should have just been it's own set for $30. The fact that the cheapest anniversary set (that wasn't loose bricks) was the Galaxy Explorer for $100 USD is also nuts.

Gravatar
By in United States,

No GWP in the USA, but luckily I got it on August 1. I cashed in $200 worth of VIP points, so the castle was "affordable". Excited to get it!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The Forest Hideout was available for a long time, I got it in June with the Medieval Blacksmith. Shame that it was not available with this set for those who were interested in the companion piece.

No Forest Hideout GWP in Canada (we got the same deal as in the US so...). Not so much a problem as I got it when it was available here earlier. I will wait for a good GWP before getting this or at the very least double VIP. I should not get it (and stick to the primary themes I collect) but it seems I am getting all those sets with a 'yellow' nostalgia box.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

I decided earlier, and wrote it here, that the price is too high and I'd rather buy additional copies of Creator castle. But then there was some time to think, the nice review here, some extra money earned, realisation that this this year birthday is sponsored by quite round number.... and the effect is an early morning day one purchase with forestmen GWP.

By in Canada,

I grabbed mine at about 8:50 last night, being on the west coast is great for new releases. I was disappointed when the Forest Hideout sold out, but I have 2 already. Looks like a fun build, shame to see so many people dump on it just because of the price.

By in Poland,

Can someone explain me what's going on with these GWP's sets. I am reading here some people receive few hideouts and for some they were cancelled ( in case of multi purchase) I got my first in June. On 1st August i have bought UCS landspeeder - there is notification that order was shipped with GWP inside. Today I ordered castle... Do I receive another one? USC I bought using Swiss Lego site with delivery to Switzerland and castle via polish site with delivery to Poland

Gravatar
By in United States,

Snagged one last night when it went live in the US. A little bummed that the GWP was sold out but like others I’ve already got two of them. Can’t complain because I used a gift card I won in a contest for the entire amount so I got it all for free.

Gravatar

Same here. I love this design more than most IDEA submissions. That goes for castle and others as well.

There is a consistency in LEGO design that is impossible to find in mocs.

I also love LEGO sets that are, first and foremost, toys. Display sets are not my thing, although I do display my sets, most of which are designed as toys. Go figure.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I was super excited about this set before it was revealed.. but since I first saw it and scoured the detailed photos my enthusiasm diminished more and more. Is it cool.. of course. But was it 350$ cool? I'm not sure. 400$ now? Nope. In my opinion it should be a lot more detailed and interesting for that price. By the regular math, Lego produces one of these sets for 157$ US. Am I OK with a 243$ profit on each set sold. Umm... no.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I decided not to rush ordering (midnight) I ordered around 8:30 and had no problem. I have been saving vip points since the vote knowing I would want it if it was a castle or pirate themed set. Took the sting out of the price.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Thanks @Lego , saved me some money! No GWP, no Castle!! How is it Lego is such a successful company but just cannot get any releases correct?!? I get its impossible to please everyone, but to not have the forest hideout as complimentary to the Lion Knights Castle is absurd. Unless of course you take off the fan blinders momentarily and realize this was just a plan to boost summer sales. From the sounds of the comments most people already have two GWP buying sets they didnt even want. I mean, look at the aftermarket demand/prices for anything Forestmen/Black Falcons/Lion Knights. Lego wants a slice of that pie too!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Still waiting on Sanctum Sanctorum to ship so that I get my VIP points for the Castle... Here's to hoping some GWP will be left by then, even if I did get one, theoretically, with the Sanctorum...

Gravatar
By in United States,

Funny how I hesitated in getting this because 40567 was sold out. Kinda forgot how many people were going to get this from their purchases on the 1st for other new August sets. Sounds like the previous limit would have been enforced and I’d not been eligible anyway (and I made no plans to be at a LEGO store). I had bought some custom parts to augment minifigs for it and already had money set aside… that I have since used to purchase parts to build a modular office building that I designed. I could have waited, but when the LEGO store sold out of 10297 on the 1st of the year I decided to wait too. Spoiler alert, still waiting.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is very much a first-world problem, but why are we limited to a purchase limit of 1 when 10303 Loop Coaster is limited to 5 at the same price point? If you KNOW it's gonna sell, maybe produce a lot of them? This makes very little sense to me.

My point being, I'm happy to see that LEGO is releasing new sets with modern design and parts that hearken back to original themes of old. I just hope they lean into that approach more. I'd love to see this become a trend instead of (presumably) just a "90 Years of Play " limited release/promotion.

It's to avoid scalps. That way those who want it can get some because stocks are not artificially lowered by resellers. For a set as desired as this, it makes plenty of sense to start with low quantities per household.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Add me to the list of those who will be waiting for a 2x VIP points promo or another decent GWP since the Hideout is gone. Hopefully with the limit of 1 Castle per person this will be available for a while and not end up out of stock. I plan to use some VIP vouchers to lower the cost but I'm holding out for a bonus too.

Loads available at the Brighton store and a lot of Galaxy Explorers,GWP still plentiful too! Store was heaving! Just as busy as Monday! Snagged mine today after umming and aahing about it! Pride weekend this weekend so I didn’t really wanna go back there as the city will be heaving!

I don't know, I think no double-VIP, no GWP is becoming the norm (but at least we can remove "not in stock when there -are- GWP/VIP" from that list). I hate to be so cynical, but I think these days, Lego is quite aware of when a set is desirable enough to not require a kicker to sell it. Why give GWP/VIP away when they don't need to?

Gravatar
By in United States,

Please add me to the list of disappointed people that there is no GWP for the US. (;_;)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Yep, I waited in line at our local LEGO store this morning to get my copy of the castle, but as soon as an employee confirmed that they were out of the Hideout, I was out of the store. I can't wait to build it, but like many others, I guess that I can wait until there is some sort of GWP or points promotion. Oh, well.

I get that. Bots make it potentially impossible for your average person to compete and have a chance of actually purchasing anything limited. But, limiting it to 1 when you have other sets at the same price point with limits of 5 seems excessive.

I guess what I'm saying is I hope these aren't limited compared to a typical release. I wish LEGO would release more sets like this and 10497. I'd love to see these types of sets on the regular. Maybe that will be possible within the "LEGO Icons" branding if not as dedicated themes.

The norm? I agree double VIP has become less frequent throughout the year and with Lego raising the prices it devalues the program. However, if anything GWP has become a monthly thing even to the level of gimmick status. You can reliably expect the GWP to come back in a month or so, especially during this special year.

The aggravating parts of the promotion will be a choice b/w 2X VIP OR the GWP, unless you make two massive purchases over the course of a month = an absurdly expensive expenditure. Not to mention, if Lego makes the Lion Knight's Castle excluded from double VIP, like it did earlier this year to certain >$200 Star Wars sets, then that will really suck. "

Sorry, I meant the norm specifically at the launch of exciting new sets. I've gotten used to making the choice between getting it on launch with no perks or waiting till there are perks but risking out of stock. As for them excluding certain sets even during promos, I didn't even know they did that. Blech!

Is it a good idea to wait for double VIP points?
Are these types of sets ever discounted?
Should I buy it now in case it goes out of stock and I don't get a chance later?
Would appreciate any guidance

Hard to say. The average 2-year window of availability for any given set still holds relatively true, but there are exceptions. And a lot of large ticket items these days seem to sell out quickly (10294 Titanic , for example). But, in my experience, LEGO usually has another wave of production/distribution to replenish stock once or more during that 2-year window. That said, this set appears to be a LEGO exclusive, at least initially. So...if you want one soon, probably best to buy soon. If you can wait a while, then there may be plenty of opportunity to score one eventually.

As far as discounts, I wouldn't count on it with this one. If it eventually ends up widely available at retail, it's possible. But probably not terribly likely.

Besides what Draykov said... in-demand sets are often not available regularly, so you can't be sure it will be available during a double VIP window. I use double VIP periods to get larger sets that happen to be in stock at the time, but I rarely plan a personal high-want item for double VIP.

This one will almost certainly be kept in production for a while, so you don't have to get it _today_. And I agree with Draykov that this will likely never see a discount. If it does, it will be just as it is retiring, and then it will disappear quickly. There are exceptions, e.g. the stadium on sale now, but that is unusual.

Gravatar

Ordered mine an hour ago. Luckily, I was able to use a $50 VIP coupon to bring the price down to $375, which helps a bit. Looking forward to assemble it, since it will only be the second castle I own in addition to the yellow castle from my childhood.

Edit: For the love of Gawd Lego, give us something?! Throw us a bone..."

By in Netherlands,

A friend of mine ordered the castle, but his GWP was canceled by LEGO, because he already received one during the last promotion when he bought Optimus Prime.

Perhaps it depends on the location and the stock of the GWP assigned per country? Just a guess...

By in Italy,

Count yourselves lucky for that VIP Pirate Pack. We get…a tote bag? Okay.

By in United States,

Does anyone know how deep the castle is when fully opened for display?

Yeah, but remember, we also pay about another 10% in sales tax.

By in Luxembourg,

I got the pirate VIP pack as well plus the Forest hideout. I thought the VIP pirate etc sets were UK exclusives, now they even ship to Luxembourg? Nice surprise.

By in Netherlands,

Ordered this on 3rd of august at 01:00 CEST. Found out today the pirate add-on pack would get included if you ordered on the 4th. Called LEGO CS to let them know how dissatisfied I was that they don't release store calendars anymore. Guess what the CS rep added to my order? That's right, the pirate add-on pack. Best customer service of any company I've ever encountered. My 2 cents. :-)

By in United States,

I also thought the VIP Pirate / Halloween etc. add-ons are a European thing, but somehow it automatically added to my cart at checkout! Added today but not yesterday with the castle VIP pre sale release? Is this our version of a GWP instead of Forest Hideout? What. Is. Going. On. TLG, are you OK???

P.S. Castle still in stock in U.S.

By in Hong Kong,

What's the VIP pirate set people are talking about? I ordered on Lego UK and the forest hideout was included, even though I've already received one in a previous order, so the GWP limit of one per household doesn't seem to exist in the UK? To be honest I don't really understand GWP rules, and treat them more of an extra bonus..
Happy to order this on day 1,anyway, although I'm travelling and it will be several months before I can build it. Same with the galaxy explorer, very happy to support "one off" great sets that refer back to classic themes, even though I'd not be in the market for a full classic space or castles re-launch...

By in Austria,

Kinda want this set but I really dislike how the instructions on the sets have become, only a few bricks on each page / picture.

Nice. It wasn't available yesterday when I had the castle in my cart. Still would prefer the hideout.

By in United Kingdom,

I'm in the UK and haven't heard yet if my second Forest Hideout is to be cancelled (fingers crossed it's not). If they did it would be poor form as I specifically looked around to see if there was a one per customer limit, and couldn't find anything beyond "available while stocks last" or similar. I've doubled up on the larger GWPs a couple of times before. Maybe I've just been lucky.

By in United States,

@Brick_Master the GWP in the U.S. is 40515 Pirates and Treasure VIP add on pack at a USD $50 threshold. There is literally no mention of it on the site that I saw unless you type "offer" into the search bar (searching for "sale" is often handy too). I also don't get the household limit with the Forest Hideout since I got 3 the first time they were available, and didn't even know about the limit 'till after I ordered.

This is my 2nd Forest Hideout also, got the first one on the previous promotion. No indication whatsoever that this 2nd set is going to get cancelled since I've already received one earlier. Order is Iisted as "in warehouse". I wouldn't worry if I were you :-)

From what I can tell, the link to the sales/offers page is on the menu of the desktop website. But not on the menu for mobile.

Ah, now I see the mention of it on the offer page, but I can't actually click through to see the product page, and it wasn't added to my cart when I placed the order a few days ago.... now though if I add products to my cart, the pirates and treasure pack appears as well, so maybe it only because available in the UK recently?
