Ideas fan vote result revealed
Posted by Huw,
Back in May we were invited to vote for one of three rejected Ideas projects to be made into a set that will available exclusively in Target in the USA.
The result has just been announced, and the winner is Viking Village by BrickHammer, which gathered just over 50% of the votes.
Those of us outside the USA need not fear missing out because LEGO has previously stated that "the set will have almost the same availability as regular LEGO Ideas sets – with the exception of in the United States, where it will be exclusively available through Target in addition to LEGO Brand Retail stores and the LEGO online shop."
Are you looking forward to being able to buy this? Let us know in the comments.

Heck ya! Hopefully the finalized version has a recolored version of the Valkyrie hairpiece/helmet in 31132
Cool!! I wish it was mini golf though. Please keep giving second chances to Ideas lego sets.
Looks great. Hope it’s affordable!
*Wagner intensifies*
....another $500 lego set....hhhhmmmmm nope. sorry,
I like it, but it needs more village, less of the rock outcropping. The minifigs should be outstanding. I voted for the mini golf course, too, but this is a nice addition.
Excellent choice! Lego’s THE NORTHMAN!
Great set- probably best set in the past 3 years if the price is reasonable. Hopefully the price is reasonable - this set should be below $130.
Edit: wait, this is not the finalised model? Chances are the final model will look nothing like this then given the history of Lego messing up the colouring scheme of most Lego Idea sets.
Nice. Wonder what colors they'll use.
Nice! I was worried they'd choose something dumb instead. But we actually got something cool for once.
Fantastic news, perfect alongside 31132: Viking Ship and the Midgard Serpent
And here I was trying to limit Lego purchases! Must have for me
50% of the votes, wow, congratulations!
Cool, just hope LEGO will remember they actually have historically accurate looking viking helmets in their inventory and use those instead of the horned ones. :-)
Would be nice if it'd also include a boat or small ship. Something like 6049 Viking Voyager.
This is berk. The only problem here are the pests.. Other places have mice or mosquitos . We have DRAGONS!
Damn, I was really hoping for mini golf, especially after the love already shown to Vikings in the recent Creator set.
That said, a) I’ll probably pick this up, and b) really hoping that we get another round of Brick Designer sets for minigolf to get a hole in one…or three.
Maybe I'll add my Gauntlet from the Avengers Advent Calendar to make an Infinity Scones shop.
Target exclusive Vikings, huh?
It’ll be interesting to see how they work in the red coloring.
Really disappointed that the more original minigolf didn't get through...
I mean come on guys we already had a vikings theme, now also a boat, Thor's goat boat,... plenty of stuff to get out of it. Why don't we invest in something innovating?
I was half hoping this one wouldn’t get chosen, so I could save some money…! Oh well! I can’t wait to see the final design!
Is it too late to start a petition that they use actual-Viking helmets rather than opera-Viking ones?
@morvit:
Messing it up by using a more historically accurate vibrant color scheme?
Likely will be priced out. Oh well.
So glad the Viking village won! I love the historical/fantasy era sets and minifigures.
I don’t care how well the design would’ve come out, mini-golf would’ve been a definite pass for me. What’s the point of it? It’s mini-golf!
I love it ! Hope they brighten it up like they did with the Blacksmith, that was a hell of an improvement.
Have they announced when the set will be released?
Not a set I'd buy (I voted for de Mini Golf), but cool nonetheless! And indeed hope they give more rejected sets a second chance!
I do quite like this one!
WOOOOO YEAH BABY FINALLY OOOOOOOOAAAA
I do like that set but I hope the color scheme will be a bit different. Even if I do understand the choice of brick colors, I still do hope it will be more colorful. Some details are simply a bit lost for me.
Very happy to see this made it, and I’m sure this will be an easy purchase.
RIP Mini Golf. Even though I didn’t vote for you, you would have been a great set too.
Yay, I can save some money by not buying this set!
I hope this is in that 150--200 price fork (which means 150 € in France, Germany, etc. and 180 € in Finland)

I think you can safely double that price. 21325 is 180 bucks, and this won't come before 2024, I think.
As a Castle fan I’m excited to be getting this, but, at the same time, kinda disappointed that it’s ANOTHER Castle set that will inevitably be priced above $100 (US). We’ve had a lot of big and expensive Castle sets in the past two years, maybe we could get a few smaller ones, too?
Kinda hoping that there will be a couple more minifigures to populate the village.

The older I get, the more I legitimately think mosquitos are worse than dragons.

i would be astounded if TLG released a castle set under $100

This is going to cost close to $350 Canadian then!? Good golly, my cat just had a heart attack! Hard pass thank you. Good luck to Lego in its continued money-making endeavours, seems like they’re doing it very well.

Or make a shield out of the Target symbol.
I dug the mini golf set, but probably would not have purchased it. I'll definitely be grabbing the Viking set, though I'm guessing it will be like $250 USD. Obviously just speculating, and that may even be a little light compared to recent LEGO pricing.

Also depends on the size of the mosquito....

What I’m most interested in is seeing all of the complaints and moaning about how Lego has changed the final product from the original submission.
"We come from the land of the ice and snow
From the midnight sun where the hot springs flow
The hammer of the gods
Will drive our ships to new lands
To fight the horde, sing and cry
Valhalla, I am coming
On we sweep with threshing oar
Our only goal will be the western shore
We come from the land of the ice and snow
From the midnight sun where the hot springs flow
How soft your fields so green
Can whisper tales of gore
Of how we calmed the tides of war
We are your overlords
On we sweep with threshing oar
Our only goal will be the western shore
So now you'd better stop and rebuild all your ruins
For peace and trust can win the day despite of all your losing"
I hope it's not going to be too expensive. And how will we know when it will be released?
@PixelTheDragon:
On my Alaska trip five years ago, I learned that at the latitude where Denali National Park is located, mosquitos are an essential part of the ecology. They’re the only pollinator that lives that far north. Without them, everything would die. Of course, this was much easier to take in, given we were visiting about a week before winter gave way to mosquito-season.

Of course it will be. Expect around $500 maybe little more. Day one purchase right ?
No. I'm not happy. This set is going to be huge and expensive and an instant "no buy" because of that.
Though not that I look closer I don't even like the set. It's far too fiddly.
I hope everyone is prepared for a redesign. It seems like people get surprised when Lego changes things so they can actually sell it as an official set.
I’m very curious how this will turn out, it could be very cool. Congrats to the designer!
I hope the set is given the Pirates of Barracuda Bay treatment.
Lego Groups ancestors used to sail the seaways, seeking gold and plunder. Now they just keep raising the price for a box of plastic bricks :)
But anyway VIKINGS!!!! :)
So glad this won the vote. Hopefully it wont be ridiculously overpriced.
A nice compliment to the Creator Viking Ship, I'd say! And the old Vikings line for those who got them back in the day.
Anyone any idea what the break down of the core was?
Cool set, forgot that this was happening!

Presumably not an actual castle, but an add on/supplementary set like the old blacksmith, guarded inn, siege weapons, cart, small boat etc....
Does anyone know why the original Vikings theme isn't considered a Castle subtheme? Seems a better fit for the medieval European vibe than the original Ninja theme that is considered a Castle subtheme
First read that it was a Target US exclusive and got pissed and hesitated reading the rest of the article. Glad I got to the end!
Bleak.
The only one of the 3 I definitely wouldn’t buy. Seems like most are happy though

Exactly. Side-builds that they could release to fill out some of the larger sets they already have on the market. It would be nice to get a few of those…
In true viking style I shall guide my boat to the nearest Target with my brothers in arms, storm the gates, and take all the sets for our own.
EDIT: I have just been informed that this plan is not technically legal.

This has always perplexed me too. I wonder if it's because they wanted to downplay the raiding and pillaging aspects. It's a lot easier to root for minifigures that are fighting mythical monsters.
Edited to add: Considering that the Vikings theme was in stores around the same time as Knights' Kingdom II, I could also see not wanting to tarnish the Vikings sets with that dreck.
Sweet news. Can’t wait to see how this is interpreted. Though I cast my vote for another set, I thought this was a great core concept and wanted to see some more “illage” in this Village. Hopefully that’s the direction the designers lean…
It looks good, but for 2100 pieces, there's not a lot of "village" there. The great hall is about 6x14 studs inside, with barely enough room for the throne and the 2x6 table. I expect the official version will have less rocky terrain, more living/sleeping space, a slightly larger great hall, and might even lose the blacksmith's shop (maybe too similar to 21325) in favor of a kitchen and or training/archery area. And hopefully more than three minifigures. I think there's a $200 sweet spot somewhere between 31120 Medieval Castle and 10305 Lion Knight's Castle. I don't think Target's core customer base is in the habit of dropping $400 on a Lego set.
Oh please be under $200. This is the most I've been interested in an Ideas set in so long.
Last time something said "exclusively at Target" it was also exclusively at Lego.com :)
A Vikings set winning a contest for a corporation housed in Minneapolis MN, was the fix in?

What most interests me is seeing how people *now* already seem to complain about the changes and price of the final product...
Fantastic news!! BrickHammers’ Lego ideas are the best. This is a definite purchase for me.
I think my table with Barracuda Bay has a little bit of room left, I'm sure this puppy will slot right in!
Funny, here in Canada; it least w/G.I. Joe Classified stuff, "Exclusive at Target" translates to "Check Your 'Toys R Us'"...but I do wish stuff like the 'Doughnut Shop/Cart' set and Polybags were more available 'up here'...
I like it and all but I wanted that minigolf
Medieval fans are blessed
I wanted minigolf. My opinion is that it is much better. There is something with this castle...I don't know...maybe the colors.
The final set had better include a unitary goat or we'll never hear the end of it...
God I am disproportionately annoyed that the mini golf set didn't get chosen.
I was hoping for minigolf but the Vikings won the vote pretty decisively. I don't see myself getting this, it'll be interesting to see if it gets lightened and brightened as happens to most official Ideas sets.
Now if only this set would have included Askeladd and/or Thorkell....

The vote was:
Viking Village: 16317
Mini Golf: 11575
Marine Life: 6732
So nearly an outright majority for VV.
I'm a fish biologist, and accordingly voted for Marine Life, but I like the Viking Village too and I'll probably buy it.
They should make mini golf at some point though, that's a great idea for an ideas set. Lots of potential there.

Or at least release the instructions.
@SmilingCyclops:
I was waffling between this and the marine animals…and forgot to vote before the poll closed. Mini golf was a technical achievement, but not something I’d feel any desire to display in my home.
There are over 2000 pieces so likely to be nearer $200 than $130. Hoping that they provide at least 6 mini-figs to feast the winter away in the great hall rather than just 3.
The mini golf was really cool, but I would have much rather bought this instead. Obviously depends on the final product, but yeah looks beautiful, hopefully have several actual Vikings (love the creator ship but hated the minifigure selection), I’d easily do $100-200 for this concept done well
Yes, very much looking forward to getting this!
Keep the bridge piece alive!
Yess!!! vikings!!
I hope for helmets without horns as it is historicaly totaly wrong.
Pretty cool, I look forward to seeing the finished product.
Seeing this makes me think of the Muppets singing In The Navy by The Village People. I'll be listening to it on repeat while I build this set.
