Are there simply too many add-on packs?
...and does that speak to the limited repeat play available with just the starter sets?
It looks like 71390 is still full price in Ireland at least. The others are all discounted though.
I wasn't interested in 71390 at first because of all the stuff that's there, but lately I've been really keen on that alternate start pipe with the "how fast can you collect 50 coins" gamemode. Not to mention the Reznors. I'm thinking of BrickLinking just the stuff I want, even though it's possible for me to get this set at a more than 30% discount...

??? They're called *starter* sets for a reason?
LEGO keeps adding new sets to existing themes. Does that speak to limited repeat play in the existing sets?
The Sims 4 has had countless expansions and keeps adding more, year on year. Does that mean the base game had limited play value?
And even if they do, why is that a bad thing? The point of expansions is to... expand on what you started out with. Add new interesting elements (I'm not talking about "LEGO elements" here). Yes, at some point, a medium will have been oversaturated, a view of TS4 held by many, but that's a different point to "the base/starter game has limited play/replay value". Of course it does!
Not totally surprised.
Bring on the minifigs.
Based on brickset retirement date, looks like those sets have target retirement date of 31st July, so probably now selling off remaining stock.

Definitely, the larger sets on that list have been sold at 25% - 40% off by most of the major retailers during their lifespan. Lego can't clear the stock without matching those prices.

Where does Brickset get the retirement dates from anyway? Is it just their projection or based on something more official?
These are the sales I see. Everything else is full price.

71390 Reznor Knockdown
71389 Lakitu Sky World

From my experience, I just got the first Starter Kit and then one or two poly bags for extra characters. I don’t think this is a bad theme at all, quite the opposite! I just kinda feel like it’s difficult to justify the costs if you aren’t heavily invested in the game.
The Luigi’s Mansion stuff is cool to me, but it’s going to cost me almost $100 to get started given I have to get both Luigi and the set with the Poltergeist 3000.

You can actually play the Luigi’s Mansion games with the Mario figure so the only additional bit you’ll need is the Poltergust set
My son loves Lego Mario sets. The sets have immense play value. My biggest gripe is that there are no physical instructions and the app is really quick at consuming battery.
71400 Big Urchin Beach Ride Expansion Set was 30% on Canadian store.
I love these sets, they're fun to build and colourful. You can also find them for super cheap used as many parents will sell these after a while. Best time is after Christmas when you can find add-ons sets for cheap, as grandparents bought the set, but the child doesn't have the starter pack so parents just getting rid of it.
I do think they release a lot of these, not too much as too frequent. One wave per year should've been enough. The market is saturated with these, and I've yet to see them out of stock or hard to find. Even the polybags are everywhere.
Is that yellow Yoshi promo still going on at the states? Or did it even come to the states? Either way a few sets here I'm missing. Might finally try those outfits out!

I got it when I made my purchase yesterday. Also bought it at Toys R Us the other day.

Really? Nice! But it just won't be the same if it's not Luigi.
