By in United States,

The only one that surprises me here is the Saturn V, given the hype around the as-yet-to-be-launched Artemis. They must be making room for the rumored new NASA set.

By in Czechia,

Interesting. Predecessor Volkswagen 10220 has been in production for more than 10 years while the T2 version was on a shelf for only 1 year (since August 2021 to be exact)

By in Germany,

I wonder if we'll be offered the very classic VW T4 bus by 2025.

2nd time it’s sold so it might not need to stay for years again.

By in United States,

The U.S. site also includes:

Bugatti Chiron
123 Sesame Street
Mickey Mouse & Minnie Mouse Buildable Characters
Fiat 500

There may be others, but these are sets that stand out to me and are not included in the UK list above. I assume they would not retire a set in one region but not the other???

Doesn't the new one have a fairly serious design flaw with the roof?

By in Australia,

Huh, the queer eye set really didn't last very long did it, barely a year? I wonder if this will make Lego more cautious of designer passion projects mocking forward? I really hope not.

By in United States,

In regards to 71040 Disney Castle, have there been any rumors of a new one on the way next year?

I've been really on the fence about ordering it. I've wanted it for a while, but if a newer and better designed one is on the way, I'd rather just wait for that.

This set has been on clearance by Lego themselves at 40% off. Clearly it did not sell well.

I built it a couple weeks ago and didn't notice any issues. The whole vehicle feels way over engineered though. It's neat to see all of the functions, but it also feels more complex than it needs to be. Especially the steering. The entire front end is basically a solid block of a dozen technic beams all interlocked together just for some basic rack and pinion steering.

By in Canada,

I did something I did not need to do at all and ordered a copy of 92176 Saturn V. I have a copy that I built in 2018 that sits right next to my office chair. I just love that set. But I have an irrational fear of something happening to it at some point and loosing it. Thus I felt I "needed" another sealed copy. I did promissed myself some months ago I would not buy sets to keep them sealed (I even sold a bunch of sdealed sets), but I guess I just caved in. Argh!

By in United States,

Finally - the two extra 71040 Disney Castles we bought might actually start increasing in value :P

I’m in the same boat. That would be very interesting info to get if possible.

71040 was designed in the heydays where no expense was spared. The bulk of substance and volume is very reasonable at 71040's RRP.

If a new version comes around, given the recent trends, likely it will have inflated piece counts and hefty price tag.

Same with adidas trainer that always seem to be on sale. Both appear to have sold really badly.

I haven't heard any. I think there's a better chance of a Haunted Mansion set right now. Although, I could see them bringing back one of the DisneyLand/World castles if they continue to do sets based on the parks

LEGO probably aiming to sell more 60351: Rocket Launch Centre, or they would not increase the price on it.

By in United States,

21324 123 Sesame Street is also on the list. Finally built that with my 4 year-old son last week.

By in United Kingdom,

None that I shall miss, but surprised that the VW camper and Seinfeld are going so quickly. It doesn't feel like that long since they were released. Has Brickset ever done an article on the length of time Ideas sets are on the shelves? There was an article last year about longest and shortest availability over all sets.

Also surprised that Queer Eye and the Adidas trainer have lasted this long. The Queer Eye set is actually ok as a parts pack at the 40% off price.

By in United States,

In addition to the differences others have noted, the Saturn V and ISS aren't listed as retiring soon on the US site. I guess we have more space fans than the rest of the world. The fact that the former was a US craft might also have something to do with it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

For any LOST fans, 10279 is an unlicensed Dharmavan. At least that's why I bought one.

Gravatar
By in United States,

And so continues the indefinite debacle— will I get the Fab 5 Loft or will I hold off on it? My preliminary answer is that if there’s ever a GWP and I don’t know how to meet the threshold I’ll just snag that one. If a development like this starts on the American site, however, that won’t be an option— decisions, decisions…

Ah, OK, I thought I had seen that some people had issues with the roof fully closing, but maybe that was an early batch or something that got fixed. Still surprising to see it get mothballed so quickly, it must have sold poorly.

By in Australia,

I recently bought 1 each of the Friends (25% off), Queer Eye (40% off), and Seinfeld sets mainly for their interiors/furnishings and minifigs. Also grabbed an Apollo Saturn as I sold my original built one years ago and kinda regretted it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

No surprise that they are retiring the Bus and F-150. It must be easier for Lego to design new ID Buzz and F-150 Lightning sets than to have parts come in paper bags.

Queer Eye has a vastly inflated price compared to Seinfeld when they should have been priced the same from the start. Not like this issue won't get worse and worse with current pricing trends.

It's showing in the Last Chance to Buy section on the UK site. Doubt they'd remake it so soon.

To be honest the roof issue I think was individual builders not understanding the instructions on how to get the roof in and under the cab roof and sliding it in correctly which caused that issue.
Personally I didn't have that issue and when I purposefully didn't connect it right it that's when it wouldn't sit right.

My biggest complaint with the T2 was parts of the front falling off while I built other sections, once getting to the point that connects them to the rest of the build they were fine but while getting there it fell off repeatedly, I will concede that I build with the model in my hands not on a table so that may have played a part in the fragile build sections falling off.
