Brick Train Awards winners announced
Posted by Huw,The winners of this year's Brick Train Awards have been announced.
The competition, which started in 2020 as a way for the global LEGO train community to connect during the pandemic, attracted over 700 entries from across the world.
The winners, who receive a voucher for TrixBrix track and accessories, are listed here, and I've added pictures of a few of them after the break.
Next year's awards will most likely occur in September again, so get building in preparation!
Best Steam Locomotive, Pere Marquette 1225 by Shane Sundell
Best Diesel Locomotive, PKP SU45/SP45 Class by Mateusz Waldowski
Best digital wagon, Zacns Millet by Nicolas Tbx

These are seriously impressive (those on the website as well)!!
Congratulations to everyone!
Thanks for sharing! These are all really well done! The detail is phenomenal! Really not sure why Lego doesn't release some more 18+ train sets?? The claim that there isn't a market for it is complete nonsense.
Great trains showing that detail is possible at this L-gauge scale using less than 1000 pieces for the locomotives, and that there is a wide range of styles from Europe, Asia and US (really want to buy the beautiful Southern Pacific) to make an interesting collectable theme.
Gees I wish LEGO would focus more on trains. Would you imagine all three of these wonderful creations on the shelves, each one in an elegant architecture-like box at a fair price? Sorry, just dreaming out loud...
I love the detail in these, all very impressive. Weirdly my favourite bit is not a technical detail but the steam in the 'Best Special Wagon' winning model.
Does "digital" mean it's a model made on a computer and not built using bricks?
I am not sure that is in the spirit of a brick award.

IMO it's fine as long as they are not competing with brick-built submissions, which in this case they were not, as far as I know.
Wow, some really stunning models. Congrats to all those named.
Awesome skills there on display
Congratulations

Perfect!!!! Excelent. I love all of them, by the way one of them for me it is wonderfull, Locomotive, PKP SU45/SP45 Class by Mateusz Waldowski. Congratulations for everybody. I love them.
These are pretty great. I’ve never been able to set up any of the trains I own because I live with my son who has some cognitive disabilities and he is to LEGO displays as Godzilla is to Tokyo…thus I’ve never been able to build up any steam with train sets. Though it is a bit less so now in his mid teens, so maybe in the future…
Can someone answer a question for me? Is it possible on those brick-built tracks to make curves so that the trains actually function like the smaller train sets? (Apologies if this is a stupid question.)
That tanker wagon is truly awesome.
But one question about that steam loco: it looks as if quite a bit of it is not made from LEGO pieces at all. Like the coupling, the headlight, and most notably most of the running gear.
Was that not a requirement?
Likewise with the Diesel loco. What pieces are those housings around the headlights? Looks like something that has been sawn off to fit the purpose.
At least the tanker wagon appears to only use available LEGO pieces, even if only in digital form.

I believe the Diesel headlight housings are 48169 , the mech joint socket piece!

Ah, that could be. So the rims have been painted white, to achieve the desired effect. There seem to be quite a lot of "illegal" building techniques involved though.
And those steam engine pieces still seem like a total mystery. 3D printed stuff perhaps, but definitely not LEGO.
Boy, that steam engine is the successor to Emerald Night I've been waiting for. Not a huge train fan, but definitely regretted missing Emerald Night back in it's day and over 10 years later, there's still been nothing comparable.

The secondary market price is sky-high. I I was able to snatch Emerald Express a few weeks back for "only" $400 but that was without minifigs and manuals but with the original box. It's a gorgeous model and it looks great in person. Even ordered a new sticker sheet to redo the old ones.
Anyway, these three train-related models are all very lovely.
