Hey Brickset, some unrelated feedback: the ads on this site are getting out of control. I recognize entirely that free websites are driven by ad revenue. However, going to Brickset this past month always seems to result in 75% of my screen being filled with ads, to the point where I can't read anything. There tends to be 2-3 bars across the top of the screen, another at the bottom, and now a giant animation on the right. Also, the ads move with the screen, often uncontrollably, so I can't even click on anything without an ad literally jumping in front of my finger or mouse.

So, that. I love your site but hate that it's getting unreadable.

Don't the ads only show up if you're not logged in?

That has been my experience. I can't remember the last time I had to deal with an ad on Brickset.

By in United States,

So in the USA, it will cost 5.99 pounds, or about $6.68 for shipping.

Still tempting for the raptor, but there is another raptor polybag at Walmart right now for $5.00.

Great idea, only wish shipping was more favorable for US customers.

Yeah seriously, sign up for a free account and you won't see any ads. And then use the excellent database to keep track of your Lego collection.

Already grabbed the Walmart polybag, so went ahead and grabbed this lil guy too.

A quick search on bricklink yielded no US-based sellers of the foil pack, so I figure no matter where I get it, I'd get boned a bit on the shipping.

These are not 'polybags', these are 'foil packs'. But apparently they will be now in paper bags, so a new name might be used.

By in Poland,

This is a really nice promotion. But I checked the shipping costs to Poland and its 4 quids. These magazines are widely available here and their rrp here is 3 quids but also they get often bundled into 2packs or 3packs for less. So kudos for this promo, but I'm happy that my domestic market has those titles everywhere for cheap. I feel like half of my brickset list of sets is filled with those magazine foil packs :D

Nice, thanks for sharing this! Just grabbed myself the Kai minifigure ^^ I'm not particularly into Ninjago, but he's got some cool pieces; so I figure I can always exchange his head for a different one to make him into a unique character.

And in any case, >£1 for a minifigure sounds too good to miss!

Probably only IRL. Don't think I've seen polybags online at WallyWorld.

Looks more like a little moulding swirl. If you click the image you can see the line's a bit thicker than a crack and doesn't go all the way to the bottom.

Gravatar
By in United States,

@madforLEGO:
That's a flow line, or weld line. When plastic is injected through the neck post, it has to flow around the arm holes like a river flows around an island. When the two flows of plastic meet back up on the other side of the hole, you get this characteristic line. It becomes very pronounced when the plastic has a pearl or metallic color, as the "pigment" orients itself based on the direction of flow, so depending on how the light strikes it, you'll see a dark band on light, or a light band on dark. On regular opaque colors where pigmentation tends to be more uniform, you usually only notice it as having a slightly different texture.

I will say that when I first got my new phone last year, the ads literally were covering up the login button outright (as well as most of the upper menu buttons). Trying to scroll or zoom in or move the page did nothing. I ended up having to refresh the page several times before I was even able to click the login button. This wasn't some outdated device either, this was a brand new (at the time) iPhone 12.

I have an adblocker on my phone now, so if I ever get logged out for some reason, I shouldn't have that issue again. But having to install an adblocker just to ACCESS the login button to remove ads doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I love brickset a lot, and I have no issue with ads in general. I personally would even opt-in to having limited ads on the sidebars while logged in on desktop if the option was given to us (as long as they don't prohibit website functionality like they do right now), just to help support the site. But there's been multiple reports like mine, where the current implementation of ads is hindering or even directly blocking basic website functionality, especially on mobile devices.

Usually changing the phone orientation to landscape moves the ads away from a button previously hidden. Another option is to switch to desktop view of web page instead of mobile view. (I don't know if it's possible on iPhone tho).

I have to duck around the ads to log in. It's no problem really.... except that the link for a forgotten password is right below the login. So, on that rare occasion where I'm not focused, and the ads are making the page bob and weave, I accidentally hit the reset link. Once you hit it, your password is gone. For some reason (probably to do with my email functionality), I have trouble receiving the auto reset email. This means I'm locked out of my BS account until our good soul, Huw, personally sends me a new password email. This is quite a pain especially if Huw is out on a Billund conference travel. It makes me realize I'm likely here too often.

Do you login everytime? I'm always logged in. Even if on a new device because the login details are saved to my Google account.

@MrBob:
This is true. I found that actually getting to a log-in link was the biggest challenge, but it was even worse if you surf in landscape mode like a civilized human being, as the banners seem to get bigger and spread out in a way that makes it more likely they’ll cover the link. They usually have an “X” somewhere to close them, but Google ads just replace that with an annoying query about _why_ you closed the ad, and it takes up the exact same space as the ad. They also don’t list the obvious “I want to see the page, and your ad is blocking my view” option, but that’s a different issue.

On my old iPod Touch devices, it got even worse, as switching tabs between sites cause enough memory purge that I’d have to log in fresh every time I loaded this site, even when I clicked the “stay logged in” option. I’m using a SIM-less iPhone as an iPod Touch now (it was on sale cheaper than buying the final generation of Touch, and might have better support).

If you can get logged in, and _stay_ logged in, the ad format here is ideal. If you don’t know that being logged in eliminates the ads, or if you can’t stay logged in constantly, it’s a real challenge to read the site on devices with small screens.

BTW, for those who do have to constantly log in to stay ad-free, a really useful trick I came up with was to bookmark the log-in page. It’s the only page on the site that seems to remain ad-free even when you’re not logged in, and you need to go there anyways if you want to log in to your account before browsing. Now that it’s not an issue for me anymore, I switched my bookmark to the comment notification page, since the link only shows up if you’ve got new responses.

@thor96:
I found landscape causes more covered links, rather than uncovering them. Regardless, desktop view is possible on iDevices if you know how to get to the request button, but they changed the way to it at some point. On current devices, what you need to do is find the URL bar. At the far left should be a small capital “A” next to a large capital “A”. Click that, and scroll down to find “Request Desktop Website”. Alternately, right above that is a button for “Website Settings”, which you can use to permanently set your device to use the desktop version of that specific website.

Yes. I don't use things like FB and GA to surf because I value my privacy and don't want to help fund Zuckerturd or the Evil Empire. I also use very strict privacy regulators and manually clean and dump cookies a couple times a day. Mamma always said that a clean boy is a good boy. ;)

Hi all, Adam from The Minifigure Store.

As stated in the article all orders of the free lego foil pack will be despatched before November 4th.

"All orders containing the free LEGO foil pack will be dispatched before 4th November 2022"

Sorry if this wasn't clear in the details. We will be dispatching all orders in one go once the promotion has either finished or all have sold out.

Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Thank you for that clarification. However, people haven’t misunderstood what was written. The day people ordered is “before 4th November” so the statement doesn’t imply a delay. It would have been clearer if it had stated “orders will be dispatched once the promotion has ended” or similar. Just a thought for future promotions.

Thanks for your comments, we'll definitely take this onboard for our next offer.

This is the first offer like this that we have done and have learnt a few things with doing so.

We are looking to ship all orders by the end of the day tomorrow for everyone who has ordered already.
