LEGO Ideas review results - four projects approved!
Posted by CapnRex101,
The latest LEGO Ideas review results have been announced and four projects have received approval, which is more than ever before within a single review period!
There were 39 submissions to choose from, so you may like to consider your predictions before viewing the results after the break...
The Orient Express, a Legendary Train by LEt.sGO
Tales of the Space Age by John_Carter
LEGO Insects by hachiroku24
Polaroid OneStep SX-70 by Minibrick Productions
We can expect these sets to be released during 2023 and 2024, following those already in the pipeline: BTS 'Dynamite', A-frame cabin and Hocus Pocus.
Are you satisfied with these results and which set are you most looking forward to? Let us know in the comments.

spaceship Spaceship SPACESHIP!
Congrats to the picked ones! Especially to hachiroku24, well deserved.
Train!
Oh I LOVE Tales of The Space Age - definite Day 1 purchase for me. I think the Polaroid could be something special too if the same team that had designed the SNES and Atari sets are involved.
I like them all, but the Orient Express is particularly appealing as a train fan.
Wow, good picks! Excited to see the Orient Express and Tales of the Space Age!
Unless they ruin them, finally some more affordable ones again.
The insects will be the one I would buy...depending the price tag of the oriental express i may get it too
Tales of the Space Age looks incredible, so unique and cool. Hopefully very little actually changes for the final product and we can see an ideas set released at a lower price range.
Now I'll need to get Guilderoy Lockhart, Rey, and Jack Sparrow figures to put on the Orient Express.
I can’t believe it. I hope the train runs on system track and doesn’t end up a large model like the UCS Harry Potter train.
I look forward to saving money for it.
As a professional film preservationist, I'm very enthused about the Polaroid set. I wonder how it will sell.
I'll also get the train, and I don't think there's much doubt about how well that will sell. Unfortunately, the fact that this was an accepted Idea seems to suggest that Lego is probably not working on a continuing line of vintage trains themselves to continue on from the Crocodile Locomotive.
But... but.... The Toilet!? ??
As a minifig scale person, I'm interested in what they will do with the Oriënt Express, and if it will lean more towards the Emeralt Night or towards the mega Hogwarts Express. Glad this made it through.
Fingers crossed they learned from the feedback on the Hogwarts Express to make the train an actual train and not just a display piece. I dread the price, but still a must buy.
I agree with what appears to be the early consensus of comments so far: I think these are great choices, not a single head-scratcher among them.
I too have really liked the Tales of the Space Age MOC ever since I first saw it online (I think it showed up on Rebrickable before being submitted to Ideas, yes?) . It and the insects set are great examples of smallish sets that achieve wonderful detail and imagery and hopefully will be affordably priced.
The insects set is really impressive - it's not easy to achieve such a naturalistic, non-cartoonish look at that relatively small scale.
I'm not a buyer of the Polarioid and Orient Express, but they are clearly both wonderful concepts, and Lego already has a track record of first-rate execution with the Hogwarts train and the Atari and NES sets, so I think these will be first-rate sets for folks who are into those themes.
Folks should brace themselves for a high price for the train - but the designer has kept it under 3000 parts, there's no train station, and there's no Harry Potter-sized licensing fee to cover, so it should come in at a lot less than the Hogwarts train while providing similar scale and display value.
OK, I was NOT expecting the Orient Express to be approved. I wonder if it'll have to be licensed since earlier this year I was threatened with legal action by a partner of the Orient Express brand for my MOC (that's the "legal" thing I had previously alluded to). But also the threat had little to no real legal basis and it didn't come directly from the owner of the brand so I dunno.
I'm really curious to see what the rest of the sets will look like in production. Will they be gratuitously upsized in both scale and price or will we see a return to small, affordable Ideas sets?
Absolutely wonderful picks! Seems like they covered a lot of bases here. Insects to eat your botanicals, a train (for those poor train fans who so rarely get good stuff), space scenes for a variety of dreamers, and a highly detailed vintage item for displayers. Plus, a wide variety of prices I expect!
I'm not sure I'll get any, but Space Age seems most likely. Still, good job Ideas pickers! This feels like a great round of Ideas.
I knew most of the ones I wanted were long shots (rescue rangers, nautilus, forestmen, Baker Street), but these are good choices too. Space Age looks pretty neat, Orient Express I'll consider picking up if it comes with a particular Belgian detective.
It's nice that they approved 4. But with so many slots they couldn't have at least picked one of the modulars or one of the buildings? l am kinda sick of these "display" or object sets, l want stuff that minifigures can interact with.
lovelovelove the sets chosen this time around, the Polaroid, space set (considered building it off the instructions a while back but now gonna wait for the ideas version to see what that looks like) and the insects are soooo good.
Congrats to the winners. I'll have to see the final versions, but these are all likely going to be a pass from me.
@leetshoe: They picked TWO buildings out of 3 winners from the last review. So not only will you be getting TWO buildings, you'll be getting them sooner than you think.
I can see all of these being popular, especially among adults. That being said, the train is the only one I'd purchase.
All aboard the Orient Express / hype train! (Now I just need to buy a mummy figure to go with my 12th Doctor Who figure to at least partially* recreate "Mummy on the Orient Express" episode!)
*Yes, I know it was a space train. But stylistically, it was based off this steam train.
That train… easily $500 in Lego corporate pricing.
None of the ones I hoped for, but I'm happy for the train fans, and glad there'll be some smaller and cheaper Ideas sets.
I'm really happy about Tales of the Space Age and Orient Express, and I'll definitely get the Insects for my daughter. It has been quite a while since I was that excited about Ideas sets, and now there are three that I like!
I was very hopeful about the Jazz one, but the LEGO rendition made too many compromises for my taste.
Tales of the Space Age and Orient Express both seem like robust designs, so there's a good chance their LEGO rendition would still be lovely.
Good choices all around. The insects are great and I could see the Polaroid being interesting depending on the price. Tales of the Space Age isn't my cup of tea, but it could be a winner if TLG doesn't mess with it too much.
I am totally shocked they picked a train set, especially after passing on more interesting train sets in the past. Not sure what it means for in-house trains in the future.
Really hoping that it's a functional L-gauge train, and not a static display model like 76405
The Polaroid could get my money.
After long time two ideas that interest me immediately - the Orient Express and the Space Age. I was really hoping for the Space Age to be approved, so that one is instabuy :-)
Can’t wait for the tales of space age, but the satisfactory set didn’t make it! Such a shame.
The only one of any interest to me is the Orient Express.
Tales of the Space Age looks great, though now I wonder how much it will change before it becomes the final project. I hope it falls in a more affordable price range.
Wait, how did they manage to pick not one, not two, but FOUR excellent projects in a single review!
I don't recall being so happy with the results of a Lego Ideas review before.
I can see myself picking up Tales of the Space Age and the Polaroid if they can keep the price down.
Congrats to the winners!

Ideas never has approved, and likely never will approve, a modular building-style project. Anytime you see a modular in the review pool, it's right out. But LEGO has selected other building projects in the past and more are coming in the future.
The train will have its fans but I really like the other 3 a lot. Fingers crossed that LEGO doesn't significantly scale them up, I don't need everything to be massive!
Great selections this time around (although I was rooting for the Steampunk Airship)! Tales of the Space Age is a perfect smaller display set and different enough from previous NASA Ideas sets. I absolutely love it! Very happy for train fans as well because I'm sure the Orient Express will be an insane build, but unfortunately I don't think I'll have the space to display it if it stays that size. It looks as big as the new Hogwarts Express!
The Insects set is cool too and I could see myself purchasing it depending on how the butterfly and praying mantis builds look since those are what I'm most interested in. I don't care too much about the Polaroid but including a function sounds awesome and I can't wait to see how it works. Congratulations to everyone whose ideas were approved!
orient express and space things woo hoo!
These don't interest me personally, but all seem like good picks. But I am disappointed the Concorde didn't get selected, I thought that was fantastic.

I'm hoping to see the Polaroid at $60 or less. It's 538 pieces currently, can't imagine Lego adding THAT many more.
I can't even imagine the price tag on the orient express. But I loved the the Tales of the Space Age. Looks so simple and beautiful. I'm already thinking about building something like that already.
Orient Express. Take My Money!!! Probably going for Tales of the Space Age too. Not personally interested in the other two, but recognize the appeal. All and all a great selection, especially when compared to the last batch.
Yesssssss big train
I definitely would've liked to see the cash register, but all 4 of these are great choices as well. I definitely plan on getting Tales of Space. We'll see what the price points are on the others...
I quite like the train, space, and Polaroid projects. But the bugs, eh. I get it's kinda like the birds from 2015. But birds are admirable, bugs are stupid. I still really like the space one however.
This looks like a very nice selection! I really hope they don't turn Tales of a Space Age into a GWP. Hachiroku's insect designs are quite nice as well. Now if the prices of these two sets would stay low...
I will not be surprised to see that train sell well. And I can easily believe it will be several hundred dollars too. I would want that one the most, but I don't know if I can justify another very large purchase from LEGO...
The polaroid looks classic and neat, but I don't think I'll get it.
The space age thing looks neat, but I have no use for it.
The insects look really well done, but I don't think I need any creepy crawlers in my house. (more than I already have...)
Congrats on making it through!
Excellent results covering 3 or 4 price points! Probably a very naive suggestion here, but wouldn't it be a nice surprise from LEGO to release the Orient Express as two sets? Engine collectors / people lacking display space : happy. Long train builders : happy. This way, they would probably sell more overall, alleviating the hesitation and hassle to buy extra sets for carriage then having to sell the engine. Each set would of course include its appropriate track length.
It would be interesting if The Orient Express had some crossover with Poirot, about his own adventure on the train.
Wow. I honestly approach these review videos with trepidation these days, expecting to be disappointed with yet another licensed set I don’t care about. But I’ll happily admit to emitting a quiet YESSSS when Tales of the Space Age was announced. I do hope it’ll go on general sale and be affordable. (I just tried Bricklinking the pieces for the three vignettes and the total is about 30 quid.) Lego Insects is really nice too. I imagine my kid will love that set.
Not my cup of tea but very respectable choices, a lot more appealing than some of the more recent stuff that's been coming out. Congratulations to the original builders.
The Insects are really on the line between Ideas and Creators sets. I wish them the best of success.
The other ones are great too, Space Age really fit into their Art endeavors, the Orient Express, with the collector trains, and the Polaroid, with the other Ideas set like NES, Typewriter and Atari. So it's not too surprising, and for the first time it feels like the selected sets were almost made by Lego themselves!
Wow!!! It's been a while since more than 2 were chosen, with even 2 starting to feel like it was too much to ask for. I thought for sure they were following an unspoken rule of limiting to only 1 or 2 approved sets per review.
These are all VERY good choices too.

"Seems I'm in the minority, but none of these interest me."
Same, but at the least, it's cool to see some Ideas that are fresh, new, unlicensed (save Polaroid), and original ... well, ideas.
Two words: A. TRAIN! :)
Nice to see well-made projects that aren't an obligatory license get picked!
Even better, we get four of them instead of one!
Really nice to have some original, non-licensed ideas chosen! Space and Insects have my eye. Especially if they stick to that size. They seem rather small, and thus affordable. So many Ideas sets are way too big and expensive for me to consider, so it's nice to have some potentially smaller products in the pipeline.
It is also refreshing that not one of these four is an Incredibly Detailed Edifice or Assorted Screentime.
We actually got more than one set through review! LETS GOOOOO!!! Even better, Space Age and Insects were two of the projects I was rooting for (If I remember right, the top two)... and seem like they'll be on the cheaper side too. Ideas can be hit or miss for me, so that's great!
The Forestman Inn was a nice legacy set, but we just got a Forestman legacy set anyway. I've always wanted a Market Village because I missed out on previous ones, so I'm a tad bummed about that. Satsifactory stood a snowballs chance, but that game was super cool so I was still rooting for it. The Steven Universe fan in me was rooting for Minnerals, but it's no big loss.
Given that there were like three or so train submissions, it's no surprise one got through. Hope it turns out better than the recent Hogwarts Express!
For a while now Ideas announcements have consistently been depressing or underwhelming. Nice to have a good one!
The only one I missed was the Orient Express. I had the 4th set pegged as the Koala. I'm interested in the Insects and the space vignets and will wait and see about the train. If they can keep in at/under $300, I may be in. Of course that means that they're going to end up making it macro scale to pair up with the Hogwarts for all of our 2nd fireplace mantles, lol.

While it's true that modular-style builds aren't without challenges... I saw people not too long ago similarly bemoaning that Ideas had never approved and likely would never approve a train project. It turns out that just because something hasn't succeeded in the past doesn't necessarily rule anything like that out in the future.
Wow, they actually approved a train!?! I'm pretty shocked. I'll be watching that one for sure!
Wow okay, that's a really high ratio of winners compared to some of the previous rounds. Maybe they're starting to realize that they're passing over too many potential sets by concentrating on a limited number of approvals?
Insects lookin' real nice btw, can't wait to see the final thing
A train, damn it's a train! Lego, please, don't screw this up, make it a motorized train running on your tracks, just no display piece like the HP one...
I’m so glad that Tales the Space Age one got approved, that’s got such a cool art deco aesthetic and it’s great to see more stuff like that done by Lego
I’ve learned before getting excited about projects to wait for the final release form. The Ideas tend to change. My prediction for the train:
A) LEGO keeps it close to the original desig and every commenter will flip out it’s not able to drive around their LEGO city
B) the train will be able to drive, but it’s nothing like the original idea anymore and every commenter will flip out about that.
No winning with that one…
If the Orient Express can run on Lego tracks, it's a definite buy from me. If it's display-only like the latest Harry Potter train, forget it. Non-starter. I will NEVER buy a Lego train that can't run on Lego tracks.
I usually don't go for non-minifig-scale sets since I am building a Lego city and don't have much space for display items, but I am tempted by the Polaroid camera since I used to drive past Polaroid's headquarters in Waltham, Massachusetts on my way to and from work every day for about 13 years...even though most of those years were after they shut down and moved out and left the place vacant. (It was torn down and now it's an upscale strip mall.)
Great picks! I hope the train will be six studs wide, although it would be interesting to see LEGO do an 8-10 wide one. Weird, that Polaroid camera is not an SX-70...
Kinda surprising they've picked four to do, and none of them really appeal to me as something I'd buy either. If I had to choose though, it'd be the train. Though you know the actual product will get dumbed down.
I appreciate them picking smaller sets, all of them also look like perfect additions to different collections. Train for lego train fans, insects for the plants, polaroid for the objects made of lego collection, and tales of the space age for the nasa sets or any space sets. Every set is a perfect pick
The Orient Express train better come with a minifigure with a suitably over the top moustache in honour of Kenneth Branagh's Poirot portrayal (even if it doesn't necessarily officially represent him specifically). It's just a necessity!
So far 3 of the 4 projects look tempting to me.
I like space and bugs, I just hope I can afford them.
Oh dear...if they are anything like the original, I'll definitely get insects and space age. They should be reasonably priced as well. The train looks brilliant and could be as brilliant but I dread the pricetag. Shouldn't be much more than twice the crocodile locomotive...but then that set came out when the world was less crazy, so who knows.
Oh tales of the Space Age and bugs for sure! I used that new big white flower set as an actual decoration for our guest bath, and it looks quite nice.
These space scenes would look equally as nice hanging in the playroom or my LEGO area.
These all look great--is the Orient Express the long-awaited successor to Emerald Night? I'm not a train fan, but even I have Emerald Night on my wish list (and given the prices it fetches, I never seriously expected to get one). I also remember Tales of Space Age catching my eye, beautiful art in Lego. Not all of these are for me, but some real solid picks.
They are all interesting looking sets. I think my favorite is the insects.
The miracle has happened! After nearly 50 Ideas sets the mothership has finally approved a train!
Now let's see how it turns out...
Excited for all four of these sets!
I really love the bugs, definitely picking that one up as long as it doesnt change too much.
Love the Polaroid Camera too, so colorful. It's just not my thing.
In a comment 8 months ago the designer stated:
"The car is more to scale than what LEGO usually does, which makes this model more suitable for display. But this is LEGO, nothing is impossible! We can consider allowing the wheel blocks to turn, as we can install an engine in the coal car!"
So currently it is not designed to run on (curved) tracks.
LEGO will then have two likely options: (1) redesign to run on standard tracks, or (2) enlarge to fit the HP train scale.
7 or 8 stud wide, minifigure scale Orient Express to match normal trains please LEGO, not the HE monstrosity...
Ooh, a train. I wasn't expecting that.
I think the insects and the space pictures are good picks as well, and should be cheaper sets compared to many recent Ideas sets.
I'm pleased they went with some of the more original projects rather than the more derivative ones. No sitcom diorama (surely they must have got enough of those on the shelf to have saturated the market!).
I'm a bit disappointed that the London Underground diorama didn't make it but it was very unlikely.
I'm very excited about the insect set; I voted for that one. It will be fun to see if I can get them to fit in a shadowbox frame or two!
Train is cool, though I am not a huge train guy. Don't care for the Polaroid. The space one is neat, but I struggle to see the purpose of it. I'm a huge fan of classic sci-fi—Ray Bradbury is my all-time favorite author—but the set still confuses me a bit. I will be curious to see what kind of cohesive narrative gets woven into the set by TLG.
I hope they make the orient express smaller and give it a minifig redo

Theres only one Poirot, and thats David Suchet.
4 excellent choices! I can't see myself resisting any of them if they're even close to the submissions
I guess the Orient Express will either be a bit less detailed, Emerald Night size, or a fully blown Hogwarts Express job. I'd be happy with either.
(It might be nice if Lego announced, in advance, what scale they are doing, so people know what to expect)
The insects make a wonderfully colourful display, and should be a fairly decent price.
The Polaroid looks excellent. I hope it doesn't get the predictable string of 'You can get a real one cheaper, yadda, yadda, yadda'.
Very much looking forward to displaying my real and Lego Land Cameras along with my real and Lego Ataris!
The Tales of the Space Age also looks brilliant, even if the first one does look slightly pornographic!
Happy for the winners and the people interested in these. Personally, not even one of these four interests me.
LEGO Insects by hachiroku24 appeals most to me. I'm not much into insects, but the builds look great, and I would love to support hachiroku24. This AFOL does so much for the community with his free video instructions on Youtube, he deserves this.
The train will be too expensive for me. The rest don't really appeal to me, but are nice MOCs.
The only set worthing buying is the train.
What a deception!
Not realistic to expect that Orient Express build to function on Lego's current degree of curved track, but if TLG manages to design it at minifig scale to run on it's available track then that would be a delightful bonus!
Nice choice of picks this time round.
Edit:
If we are getting a display only train model, I would have preferred TLG picked the Pneumatic Steam Locomotive instead as that would have brought to the table something unique to a train build with pneumatic functions even if it would be a fixed-in-place display model.
Insects! I did not have much hope but I'm so glad it got through.
They're great and congrats to the winners.
Wow. Most of those I thought had some small chance, but would get bumped out of the list by another licensed 80s\90s nostalgia property. And I never saw the Orient Express making it in a million years. I'm happy to be wrong this time. Maybe I've been too cynical...
Congrats to the winners! The Orient Express and Insects are my particular favourites. Hopefully the former sees a return to 6-wide trains; we all know what happened to the Hogwarts Express.
Looking forward to the Orient Express set - hope it lives up to the original
Not just any train, but GREEN TRAIN.
I was ao shocked to see the train, I had to double check on another site just to make sure it's not a mistake.
Please make it fit on tracks and not $600 set.
Unrealistic dream - to have them sell extra cars separately.
Can't wait!!
Some great projects this time around! Congratulations to the designers!
It's so nice that none of them are licensed or from a sit com!! (technically you could argue 'Orient Express' to be licensed but whatever).
Super excited for the Orient Express. I've always wanted a Lego one and it's about time we got another Creator Expert level steam train! Glad that Lego has finally started to realise train fans exist.
My only worry is that they will charge the earth for it.
@Grizby @Bricklunch Yes! A nod to Poirot/Agatha Christie would be awesome! But yes, David Suchet is the only Hercule Poirot. Who even is the guy with the grey facial hair (it's not even a moustache) in the new Orient Express film (which was terrible)? He certainly isn't Hercule Poirot!
Love the train. Unfortunately my wallet does not feel the same way as to what the likely price will be for it.

I assume you mean Kenneth Branagh, a well respected and great actor. He’s been in many good films, including Harry Potter. He directed the first Thor movie also. Also, I harshly disagree that his Orient Express movie was terrible.
Nice picks, all four of them! And glad to see some actual ideas instead of just rehashing existing ideas with another IP.
Tales of the Space Age seems like a must buy, I wouldn't expect Lego to change much, and as it is the price should be decent too.
The Orient Express should be my favorite, but here I am a bit worried that Lego will change a lot, and it will be undoubtedly be pretty expensive. I know many won't agree, but I actually do hope they go the Hogwarts Express route and make it into a pure display model. A train like this just doesn't work as a functional model, unless they make huge compromises on the scale and proportions.
Despite never having used a Polaroid (my Pogo printer doesn't count....) if they can keep the price reasonable I might want to buy that. The one thing I do worry most is that it's gonna be a sticker fest.
And last but certainly not least the insects. I do very much like the designs, and I do see this sell pretty well.....just not to me.
Would love to see the train Minifigure scale. Great looking model non-the-less.
Back when I was trying to MOC an Elves butterfly dragon, I searched and searched and found very few examples of Lego butterflies. One reason is that bricks don't translate well into the feel you generally expect of graceful, delicate butterfly wings. So I'm pretty excited for the Insects.
(BTW I paused on butterflies and switched to attaching cicada wings, which were...in surplus... to Elves minidolls and they make FANTASTIC fairy wings!)
@monkyby87 Sorry I was making fun of the crazy interpretation of Poirot, not Kenneth Branagh himself. He is a very good actor. However the new Orient Express film completely changed the story, and Poirot's character, to the point that Poirot is barely even recognisable (physically or by personality). Death on the Nile (2022) was even worse. I understand leaving out some characters here and there or making minor modifications, but these new Poirot films basically write a whole new story (which is never much good) so my question is why ruin Poirot when one could have just written a new murder mystery? Quite a lot of new films are like that, they take a famous character, TV show or movie and remake it into a disaster with poor reviews from critics and fans alike that is an insult to the original and its creators.

Don't forget Angelica (Stranger Tides), and Olaf!
Sad there’s no Aladdin or Rescue Rangers, but that Orient Express is nothing to sneeze at! Hopefully minifig and track scale…

Wikipedia claims the brand is owned by SNCF.
As for the ones that didn't make it: most disappointed for the London Underground station (since I already have the a bit too similar Shanghai version from Loz....also having the original would make me feel better about that), the Nautilus and the Pneumatic Steam Locomotive (which is an amazing idea but I bet just too complicated for Lego standards).
And while I would have loved the Delta Integrale and the antique cash register, these would undoubtedly been ruined with a record number of stickers for the former, and a severe lack of drum lacquered pieces for the latter.
I love that there's a train ... but ... if it's another Hogwarts Express (that's nothing more than an awkwardly-oversized display piece that is utterly incompatible with actual Lego railways), then I'm going to be so disappointed.
@ResIpsaLoquitur said:

You could also include the Green Goblin. And Doc Ock from another Poirot adventure ... LOL! ;-)
I will probaly end up getting the polariod (as i love the life like models lego has been doing eg: the NES and Atari) but I was really hoping for the sony walk man
Some decent choices, but they picked 4 projects and not a single one of them was a Castle one? I would have gladly taken one of those over the Polaroid. The Polaroid is a great design but not something I'll be interested in purchasing. Even the other three are more "maybe" than "definite purchase" for me. If they did The Polar Express instead of The Orient Express, that would be a definite purchase since I am a much bigger fan of the source material.
Thinking optimistically, maybe the lack of Castle projects chosen means we're going to get a proper full Castle theme... but I won't hold my breath. At least us Castle/fantasy fans have some potential Dungeons and Dragons sets to look forward to.
Insects is the first ideas set I've been excited for since... I think 21320 in 2019. Its so nice to finally see some smaller sets approved, too, I've long since grown exhausted of every ideas set being enormous
After losing a chance to buy the IDEAS Birds, I will aim for those insects.
Wow what a refreshing change of pace for Ideas. Here’s to hoping we see some varying (and affordable) price points. Which apparently seems to be the goal of these selections. I love it!
While I'm tired of licensed sets, I've been wanting a polaroid ever since I missed out on the VIP exclusive camera.
Happy for the train fans
Bugs are cool. Might just go for the butterfly
Tales of the Space Age is A BEAUTIFUL DISPLAY PIECE and I hope they don't change it too much or make it a mosaic ??
My two cents:
Love the choices overall. Only minor quibble with the insects is that the one that's supposed to be a bee doesn't look like a bee at all but like a wasp. That one either needs quite a bit of refinement, especially a colour change since bees' stripes are more tan/dark tan and dark brown than yellow and black. Plus bees are more chubby looking. Or simply leave it as it is and call it a wasp.
The Space one and the Polaroid look so perfect and buildable already that I hope the LEGO designers don't ruin those like they did that dreadful football table. Come to think of it, if one wants to be sarcastic, one could suggest LEGO make the Polaroid a 300 Euro set. Say 70 Euros worth of camera plus 230 Euros worth of diverse minifigs and accessories to recreate all kinds of possible photo motifs.
Smeg, I hope I didn't give the designers an idea now... ;-)
And finally, the Orient Express. No one who knows me will be surprised that this is my favorite.
If LEGO has any good business sense they will release this as two sets, loco and wagon separately, because then people who want a proper display piece can buy as many wagons as their budget and available space allows, while those who want to optimize their display space can opt for either the loco, or the wagon, or the loco and one wagon, or whatever. Endless choices, plus the prices of these separate sets would become more reasonable too. Win win scenario.
Plus it's not without precedent within the LEGO product universe. After all, separate locos and matching wagons were available in the past and worked perfectly.
Congrats to the winners, but none of which tickles my fancy this time around, unfortunately (or fortunately, wallet-wise). I'd been hoping for one of the following myself: "The Forestmen Secret Inn", "Wild West Mine", "The Kit-Cat Clock", "Santa's Cottage", "Hanging Flowers", "Castle of Brickwood Forest" (probably too parts-intensive and too close to the 10305 Lion Knights Castle release), "Magical Village over the Bridge", "Farm Life" or even "Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers".
Mostly looking forward to the Orient Express, hoping it will become L-gauge scale, and not really expensive. And the insects.
Happy with the selection this round!
I'm completely shocked that the Orient Express actually made it through after the Big Boy got passed on. But after all these years we finally got an Ideas train set lads and lasses.
nice choices, not sure if i'll buy any of them though, the lego budget has shrunk a bit. very curious as to the final price points.
i think you'll have to Poirot the train yourself, otherwise licensing price increase, i expect

"Some decent choices, but they picked 4 projects and not a single one of them was a Castle one? I would have gladly taken one of those over the Polaroid. The Polaroid is a great design but not something I'll be interested in purchasing. Even the other three are more "maybe" than "definite purchase" for me. If they did The Polar Express instead of The Orient Express, that would be a definite purchase since I am a much bigger fan of the source material.
Thinking optimistically, maybe the lack of Castle projects chosen means we're going to get a proper full Castle theme... but I won't hold my breath. At least us Castle/fantasy fans have some potential Dungeons and Dragons sets to look forward to."
Castle fans got Lion Knight's Castle, they can't complain.
@AustinPowers not all bees are chubby. Honey bees are more wasp shaped for example. And the stripe colour varies quite a bit between species. I suspect they might make it more bumblebee shaped because that's what the stereotype of a bee is.
My one-word reaction to this announcement: WOW!!!
I honestly didn't expect anything like this bonanza, and I find all the approved sets excellent. Like other posters, I hope they don't make a Hogwarts Express out of the Orient Express, and that they make it possible to buy more than one car without having to get multiple engines, but I'm thrilled to see it get approved!
I can hear it now:
"the Lego Polaroid is too expensive . . . I can get a REAL Polaroid camera for less than that!"

The bumblebees we have in our garden look nothing like the various types of bees we get. Our wasps and hornets are very different yet again. I know there are various very different species of course, it's just the one in the submission looks almost exactly like the wasps in our garden but nothing like our bees. YMMV of course.
It's also not a general criticism of the idea, which I like very much. Just a thought or suggestion for a slight improvement.

"It seems a bit silly to me that they'd do the Orient Express but not do another Emerald Night or other similar train in-house. Instead they need someone external to tell them trains for adults are a good idea...?"
Despite trains polling very high (there was one about popular themes within the last couple of years, and trains made 4th or 5th on the list!), a plethora of aftermarket products (whole kits, instructions, custom track, etc.), and many projects on Ideas for trains (including but not limited to Stephenson's Rocket, Polar Express, Thomas & Friends, Queen and more...) - for some reason, they just don't want to bother.
This is despite parents complaining once they've bought the two or three sets which make up the range, they've bought everything. And AFOLs making the Crocodile go OOS repeatedly, although that may be an indicator of supply issues more than sales.
Trains are LEGO's "catch 22"; according to sales charts and retailer feedback, they're not wanted, and creating new trains takes up a valuable SKU. But if they don't push, they won't get the sales...
It's certainly nice to see more than 1 or 2 ideas being chosen, although it's still only 10% of the models under review. I supported 10 submissions in that review, one of which was selected. Unfortunately, my three favourites that I supported didn't make it. The one that did is the train, and that's only to have an iconic train in my collection. I look forward to seeing the final version and the price.
I wonder if the increase in ideas chosen is actually due to the complaints they have received over the last couple of years?
For my the best set is the ...........
MINI CITY DIORAMA: LONDON WITH UNDERGOUND STATION !!

Well, the good news is you can already buy that, more or less. And pretty cheap!
The bad thing is that I'm pretty sure the Shanghai Subway Station by Loz, while in itself an excellent set, is a ripoff from this fan design...
I think it is great, that TLG is listening, approve four sets from one wave. They might started understand the gravity of these tousands of votes. I think, they are not in an easy position, everyone has different favourite ideas so the TLG receive mostly criticism from the fans. These four chocies are no different. I think the most problematic one is the train set. I think there three options, all of them will have supporters and anti supporters. The worst way to keep 8 stud wide design, it will not fit to 6 wide cities even if it will run on the tracks and will be not detailed enough compared to the HP train. The second worse will be a 10 wide train. It will be beautifully detailed however too expensive. The best way to scale down to 6 wide and design somthing like the Emerald was. This will be the most popular at end of the day. Hooe they will choose wisely.
waspinator terrorize!
I was really looking forward to the chip n’ dale set :(
Oh well! Congrats to the winners!
