I wonder if James Cameron personally saw prototypes of "75579 Payakan the Tulkun & Crabsuit" with a fully brick-built 'Tulkun' and demanded custom big space whale head molds to accurately capture his auteur space whale vision.
This wave looks much better.
Sad that the Tulkun horns don’t appear to be removable - that’d be a nice blue whale.
Really like the Avatar theme, nice and colourful sets, no dreadful plain black boxes and this wave (for the most) seem decently priced too.
If you look really closely you’ll see these tiny gaps in the submarine cockpit. So tiny.
I understand the custom parts on the smaller animals but the tulkun whale is huge, I don't see why that shouldn't be brick built. What happened to "it's all about the brick", Lego?
Those are some fun sets for sure.
Has quite a bit of Subnautica game vibes, being part underwater with "alien" creatures, yet also has things like high tech sub and underwater walker.
The underwater terrain builds look superb in terms of Nice Parts Usage for the coral type details, and the submarine has a bit of Aquazone vibe.
Also like the way it continues the terrain being used as display stand.

Certainly raises the bar for the nice part usage challenge with that piece.
Not overly interested in any of these builds. Kind like the sub and the alien whale, but all of the sets look far too small for their costs, meaning they all feel too expensive. That and some of the build choice are rather questionable to me... all the technic beams in the Skimwing set for instance, given they're the same bits used in the sub and crab mech, make me think its some kind of robo-fish rather then an organic creature.
Looks though we're just getting a rehash of the first movie, but with a waterworld setting.
Not feeling tempted. (relief)
My limited budget is waiting for Indiana.
"Just sprinkle parts of 10294 around your Avatar play area for the full James Cameron effect!"
I do like that crab-thingy, but I reckon I could build one at home :D
Those blue cat people with short legs look weird. Maybe those are teenagers of the species?
As for the rest... Uhm, where did all the budget go in those larger sets?
I like the use of octagonal baseplates on the hut thing to indicate a waterline. But ehm...
Forget it, these are not for me. If you love making tiny models with huge prices and no doubt tons of non-functional details, these are definitely for you!
I kinda like the submarine set, especially some pieces in new colors and that bow. Other sets are pretty meh, though. And I feel the face prints are hit or miss, some look really bad.
The reef home looks really nice but still not good enough to make me pay for a movie ticket.
If 75577 were cheaper, I'd be sorely tempted. Not because of the movie, but sci-fi submarines are my jam. I'm wondering what's with the medium-legged minifigs. Are the supposed to be Na'vi kids?

That's always been the case if you buy an entire wave. At least with this there are entry points at £20 and £30. Something Lego haven't done recently for the SW movies or TV shows.
After poor value sets like Obi-Wan vs Darth Vader, I can't believe people moan about there being sets that suit most budgets.
The Dark Blue Baseplate from the Motorized Lighthouse set would be great for some of these!

I wouldn't exactly call 25 euro entry point anymore though.
Oh..no. They forgot to fully enclose the sub.
These ain't Aquanauts, that's for sure.
Is there really consumer demand for two waves of (expensive) Avatar sets? Guess we'll find out.
Bit disappointed by the lack of arm printing like in the first wave, but I'm pleased to see another military minifig. The submarine and whale sets look good.
I like getting stuff in sand green. I guess that’s sand green on that sub?
But that sub is going to have some moisture issues in the cockpit.
These are pretty lame. Not really better or worse than the previous sets.
Though I admit I do like that whale. Despite the obvious alien features (which are pretty cool) it still easily registers as a whale.
I love whales and I've been wanting for them to release a whale for many, many years. A shame that this is as close as they've gotten.
Hoping it drops to like €60-€70 online, because that's the absolute most I'm willing to pay for it.
Is it just me, or did the minifigures get worse? The Na’vii just barely fit into the art style last wave, but these just look even more off.
Also, kinda funny how Avatar has gotten more sets than DC.
I love that Manta Ray!
Most interesting thing here is the bow that can shoot.
The smallest set of the wave is $40 AUD for less than 200 pieces? Bwahahahahahaha! It doesn't get better from there price wise.
It's a shame because I really like the coral reef builds. The reef house and sub might be the best sets, and I like the firing bow and trans clear 1x1 plates with clips. However, unless the film really blows me away, I doubt I'll pick these up anytime soon.
Once again the flora is what I like the most. So much so that I would happier if they removed all the minifigures to allow more flora. I usually care about minifigures but these don't do much for me...nor did the characters in the first movie. What I like about Avatar is the world and some of the vehicles, the people are really secondary.
Anyway, space whale is super nice too.
These sets are a match for my undersea Savage Land diorama.
I'll get that sub at discount, beautiful but expensive.
Lila carrot pieces will give us beets. I like the sets. They look colourful, fun to build and playable.
And the butterfly wings of the Skimwinger are very good to make a big Mothra.
How are we supposed to recreate our favorite moments if they forgot to include letter tile packs to reproduce the end credits?
Seriously, though, I do see several pieces that I’ll be trying to pick up through PAB for coral reefs, but zero interest in the sets.

Now we're just missing LEGO Battlestar Galactica.
If I was 10-years-old-me now I would love those sets! As I am a bit older I must admit they are pricey. But they look so colorful and imaginative, I am very tempted to get the reef location, those vinyl tent pieces seem very useful for medieval and fantasy builds. And that shooting bow? Wow! Most afols seem to dislike the Avatar theme but I think it's one of the freshest that lego has put out in last 6 years.
I like the smallest one the best, the wave looks very good but that whale loses the LEGO charm in my opinion. The whale looks like some playmobile toy, not LEGO.
That huge whale head makes a bit more sense if you see that it opens up in four pieces (image on the back of the box). At least the lower jaw is an existing piece.
Still, I am a it bit dissappointed that all of these look like less-believable variations of earth-animals: Let's add extra horns, wings, legs and eyes. Having said that, platypuses exist.
I don’t care too much for Avatar but I love the creatures created here. I’m also loving the recolors for so many pieces. A couple of these creatures might not be too out of place in a Ninjago Seabound display
I might pick up some on discount, but I definitely don’t neeeeed any of them.
I LOVE the giant alien whale, but that's gonna be so expensive. Still, it's a waiting game to when the shops inevitably clearance them out, so, I can wait.
And yet, the Goat still hasn't come back... ;)
I suspect my apathy for the sets is at least in part rooted in apathy for the film itself. That said, the sub does look kind of neat (waterproofing issues none withstanding); always like a chunky sub, reminds me of the industrial aesthetic of Aquanauts.
Creatures look cool, so does the environment under water. It's pricey, sure, but those are good play sets.
I like the sub, although I do wish it was a bit more fully enclosed with some windows on the sides.
I don't like the look of the Na'vi. Their heads really seem off, especially the ones where their hair doesn't touch the ears, highlighting just how much they stick out.
Of course, having weird faces matches with the movie, so well done to TLG on that front.
@GrizBe:
I’m waiting for Avatar 3: The Way of Earth, where they ride around on giant earthworms that bore holes that are just barely large enough to fit a riderless earthworm.
@domboy:
Careful, or they’ll release a molded Pandoran goat, with eight legs or something.
I can't believe they didn't even try to enclose that sub.
Most of the Avatar theme looks really sloppy to me. I really want to like some of the animals and vehicles.
The prices for some of these sets are absurd. I still strongly dislike the figs, but at least we have more useful long leg colors/prints. I really like that crabsuit, and the sub(besides the massive gaps), but this is another miss for me. Now I just need the Indiana Jones sets to see if I have another year of buying only Star Wars.
The sub reminds me of the Mega Contrux Halo sets.
I don’t know anything about the movies, but taken just as individual sets, these are aesthetically strange. The contrast is just too distracting between a few large purpose designed parts (wings, heads) and the rest of each build. The Elves theme for example did a much better job integrating things to make convincing fantasy creatures.
These look absolutely phenomenal! The design of the organic set pieces are a step up from the first wave.
Is that Fat Thor driving the sub?

The trick is to irritate the Shai-Hulud just enough that it remains travelling along at the surface.
I like what I see there, though not enough to make me want to buy any.
My expectations rose a little when I saw the word Dimensions... but alas, no.
A LEGO Avatar video game might be nice - (Don't hate me, but I quite like the films - maybe the plot is thin, but the visuals are great IMO)
That alien whale looks AWESOME!!!
Transparent clips!
@bananaworld:
Then you probably should start by not trying to ride one on such a soggy planet. And don’t drink the Slurm. You don’t want to know where it’s been…
Whimmy wam wam wozzle!
I love box art and I'm glad Lego is still doing it in some places.
The unenclosed submarine is giving Alpha Team 4794 vibes.
@Binnekdamp:
>Those blue cat people with short legs look weird. Maybe those are teenagers of the species?
That's it exactly: The second movie introduces the children of Jake Sully and Neytiri -- Neteyam, Lo'ak, Tuktirey, adopted Kiri, and stranded human Spider. (Are human-bioengineered avatar bodies cross-fertile with native Na'vi? Or did the happy couple need some assistance from the RDA science contingent that stayed on Pandora after the miners were evicted? Maybe the movie will tell us.) So far as movie spoilers go, at least these sets have a lead time of only two months, rather than a full year.
Like most LEGO adaptations of media properties, there are set features and choices that don't make sense in isolation. And then there's "we designed the set from early concept art which looks nothing like the final version." --Given the prolonged development of this movie, I wonder if this theme will avoid that particular curse?
(For "why does this exist?" there's an entire "LEGO City" subtheme predicated on the characters and events of the "LEGO City Adventures" TV series (2019, in the U.S. on Nickelodeon) whose existence was easily overlooked by AFOLs. Hmm. For that matter, the media-paired themes never co-sell the TV shows on the packages -- Ninjago, Chima, Nexo Knights, etc. I wonder if there's a pan-European advertising-to-kids regulation to that effect?)
i might buy ihu adventure but none of the rest tickle my fancy
I really don't like this theme. The Na'vi look odd and creepy at the same time.
The set design also seems overly focused on just getting the organic shapes and colours in there as such.
I like the submarine but all in all a very easy pass.
Mako... that just reminds me of Final Fantasy VII, which comes with excellent memories...

They named the dog Indiana…
There is only one matter in these sets that concerns me.
QUARRITCH.
YOU MUSTACHE-TWIRLY CARTOONY VILLAINOUS SON OF YOUR PARENTS.
YOU HAVE RETURNED TO GRACE US ALL WITH YOUR STEREOTYPICALLY MANIACAL SATURDAY-MORNING CARTOON WAYS.
I hope and pray that submarine set has a large mug of coffee in homage of the second greatest scene in the Avatar series, where he sips his coffee and grins like a Captain Planet villain as the world burns.
The first greatest scene was the Mech Fight, which Lego has gloriously and graciously gifted us with.
WELCOME BACK, MY SON.
I've never been a huge fan of James Cameron's Avatar, but I am a huge Subnautica nerd so all these giant alien sea monsters feel cool. I especially love that whale's mouth!
@alegrippa: 31088 has a fourth whale model, the instructions are only available on-line.
@TheOtherMike:
That was the first set I can recall that had a bonus model posted with the rest of the digital instructions. I think they eventually released a Creator set that was billed as a 4-in-1, with physical instructions for only three of them. Anyways, the official review of this set includes photos of what’s probably supposed to be a sperm whale:

Glad to see a different theme allowing new creatively in Lego. I'm not a big enough fan to need these but maybe kids will be hooked. I understand the pricing is reflective of the licensing and that new movie tie-in themes usually have a short-run and only a fraction of the sales of the established themes increasing costs. But I always wonder which has the larger impact, Lego on the shelf and media attention playing with the Lego promoting the film in advance, compared to kids seeing the film and wanting the Lego, suggesting that maybe the licensing shouldn't be so one-sided if the relationship is both ways.
The creature sets look beautiful, and would have been great in the Lego Elves setting
@TheBrickshipyard:
If Smurfcats can breathe underwater, does that mean they’re actually…Snorkcats?
I would have expected to finally see the special pins from the FORMA fish to return ((4.85 BUSH, 1 MODULE, W/ FOIL CONNECTOR) . Oh well....
LEGO Subnautica when

100% this. Genius suggestion.
Now you mention it, their absence is baffling...
Apart from the minifigs, what an awesome theme. Best designs in a long time...
@bananaworld:
I’m guessing it has to do with being a semipermanent piece of art (Forma) vs a kid’s toy to be repeatedly assembled, disassembled, and assembled again. The towballs may not be as aesthetically pleasing, but they’re going to be less abusive to the holes in the foil. You can kinda fake the effect with 1x1 round tiles attached to the studs on some half-pins. It won’t “float” on the end like the Forma pin is designed to do, so it’s even more critical that the piece be display-only, but you can pick different colors of tiles.
Very beautiful sets. Still not a fan of the tall heads though. I prefer when things are minifigurized. It makes them feel more LEGO
Not everything is for everybody.
The more I think about it, the more bothered I am that they did a custom mold for that whale head. I feel like an Aircraft Fuselage Aft Section Curved would have made an excellent whale head and would be a great example of Nice Parts Usage.
These don't interest me at all, BTW.
hard pass for me, the films are massively overated and these sets look clunky and 20 years out of date
Im not a fan of a sub marine vehicle with massive holes in the cockpit. It should at least appear water tight
