- £119.99, $159.99, €139.99
- Monkey King, Monkie Kid, Mr Tang, Golden-Winged Eagle, Azure Lion, Yellow Tusk Elephant
Get kids aged 10 and up excited about classic legends with this brick-built LEGO Monkie Kid Monkey King Ultra Mech (80045). The set recalls the original Monkey King Warrior Mech, with updated features and functions to extend play, including rear rocket boosters, a new armour design, newly designed Golden Sight power with a light brick, a staff and other weapons that can be transformed into a jet.
The set has 6 minifigures: Monkey King, a powered-up version of Monkie Kid, Yellow Tusk Elephant, Azure Lion, the Golden-Winged Eagle and the original version of Mr. Tang. Kids can also enjoy an easy and intuitive building adventure with the LEGO Builder app. Here they can zoom in and rotate models in 3D, save sets and track their progress.
Collectable LEGO Monkie Kid construction toys are inspired by the classic Journey to the West novel and are a fun way for adults to share the characters of the Monkey King legend with kids in a modern, playful way.
You can find more images on the set details page.
I was unsure about this model following its initial unveiling, but I think it looks much more appealing in these images, particularly with the shaping of the chest. Also, I was surprised to learn that this set actually contains more pieces than 80012 Monkey King Warrior Mech!

Awww yes baby! Looks spectacular.
Another mech to barely touch for risk of it falling over.
Looks like a proper upgrade overall - design & price-wise. Awesome minifigs.
well better mech than latest hulkbuster xD
Well after my disappointment before, this mech looks so much better in HD. Love the design.
I wasn't super interested in this set based on the first pictures, but now it looks awesome. Love that the jet can attach all over the mech. Minifigures are amazing and I love the new hair/head molds! I still prefer the 2020 mech but this one is really cool, and it doesn't seem terribly overpriced like so many recent models.
This is a very reasonable price....
Not at all my things (i.e. Mechas/mechs and/or Monkie Kid) but this looks very good.
(one nitpick: there is a teal bracket inside the head which should be red)
I think I might have to buy one Monkie Kid set to see what it's all about. The risk would be that I end up liking it - the theme is quite large and expensive (so far).
I'm not interested at all, but I'm glad to see a lot of enthusiasm from other AFOLs about this one.
Looks pretty cool to me. Appealing design, nice figs, good price per piece.
I think this was a missed opportunity to have made an Ultimate monkie king warriorbuster mech that actually fit the lesser 80012 inside it...
That canopy looks trans-red. That’s pretty exciting!
Also even though it lacks a prominent single dorsal vertical stabilizer, I’d have to say that’s close enough to a Vic Viper to call it yet another official LEGO one.
I think we’re up to five now!
Oh, they're spoiling me, They even added back pictures! They almost never add back pictures! Thanks to these images I've managed to mostly reverse-engineer this on Stud.io, and gosh, it's a beaut. The shaping is top-notch. And the ability to "power it up" with the included jet is awesome and reminds me of my modification to the 2020 Monkey King mech that allowed you to mount the Cloud Jet to it as an oversized jetpack.
This also gives us a better look at some of the figs and new parts. The Tang fig in full Tang Sanzang regalia is awesome, MK looks great in that new white mech pilot suit, and the new Monkey King fig has some fantastic-looking leg printing! The three new demons look great as well—I'll be interested to see if these three are the main antagonists for the year or if we might be lucky enough to get even more demon characters in the other sets. The new fancy staff looks awesome as well, and it looks from the boxart that the traditional weapons of all of Monkey King's traveling companions will be spread across the whole range!
This is how to do a mech, unlike the $550 monstrosity they designed for Marvel fans.
LOVE IT.
That pose with the staff over the shoulder? Sick.
This is a 100%definitetakemetothecashmachine purchase. The two MKMech versions are going to look AMAZING together :D
Poor old Evil Macaque's Mech... 80033 is gonna take a royal beating!
@B_Space_Man I've just been looking at some side-by-sides of the 'old' one and the new one, and I can see what you mean. They are similar in many ways, humanoid, big staff, red/gold/teal, ornate, regal etc. The way the respective designers have approached the main build seems different enough to me to warrant another version. Plus, the 'old' one sells second hand for over RRP now it's no longer available...
The comparisons to the Hulkbuster are inevitable and, IMO, warranted. If you loved mechs, what would you rather have - a $550, poorly designed statue with one minifigure or a cool, articulated, BIG mech with several minifigures for $160?
Bonus - an Iron Man minifigure fits comfortably inside!
0/10, you can’t fit 76206 into it
The two Monkey King mechs don’t look distinct enough, in my opinion. The color schemes are so similar that I don’t immediately see the differences.
Don’t get me wrong, this looks well designed. But I think some bigger color changes would help set it apart. If you took two Ninjago mechs from different years (as an example) they are pretty distinct.
Who knows, maybe a side-by-side will make me think differently. I should also add that I don’t watch the show, so maybe it makes sense from that perspective.
The single BIONICLE ball joint beam in the ankle may prove to be problematic.... I just can't imagine it holding up that much weight long-term when it's oriented like that.
looks awesome, but still no knees?
i would like to see a side-by-side comparison against the old one to see how this holds up (literally and figuratively...).
PERFECTION. PERFECTION. PERFECTION.
I really don't get people saying the Monkie Kid and Ninjago mechs are prone to falling over or the parts falling easily from the set during play. I own 80010, 80012, 71738 and 71765 and all of them are very sturdy and playable. Maybe 71765 might be a little wonky sometimes, but the other three are really amazing.
I disliked the new Hulkbuster upon reveal due to its awful design and for being a pointless set. Then the reviews showed it has design flaws as well, unlike the reviews of most of the MK and Ninjago mechs. You know, perhaps you're just annoyed of mechs or find the MK and Ninjago ones ugly/pointless, which is reasonable. But you don't need to say they are bad designed or something without knowing the set properly, either by buying it or looking for its reviews.

Good spot! I would really love a Sandy from the old TV show. Loved that guy.
Monkie kid is such a great range! My only complaints are their propensity for more expensive entry sets and poor availability. The mech looks good, but it does feel a little too similar to the prior rendition.
Echoing all the Hulkbuster comments. It really isn't a very flattering comparison, especially in regards to shaping and colour blocking.
The chunky, cohesive design reminds me of the Ninjago movie mechs!
I play gatcha games on my mobile and this is like when they release the premium version of the character you already whaled for.
Although wait, this is actually the mass market version of the premium one, isn't it? The original I have is larger, more detailed, and possibly less stable, too.
Looks incredible as always with monkie kid. The fact that this theme hasn’t become a hugely popular phenomenon is a criminal crime. I can only hope that LEGO continues to make really really creative unlicensed themes and doesn’t learn the wrong lesson from MK’s lesser successes
These pictures make me even more excited for this set! Looks like I won’t just be bringing the Modular home on the 1st.

Look closer. You can see double ball joints at the knees in that back photo at the end, and one of the knees is bent.
Does the light brick make any impact at all? Maybe if the staff was made off transparent orange bricks and the light brick made them glow!
Those arc wings are giving me Unicron vibes!

It has knee's but they don't function, which is what we want, I'm tired of modding all of lego's mechs because they're too lazy to put knee's on them - we've seen it done numerous ways, it should be a standard.
Those LEGO designers got tailent. Sure it’s not chimp change, but a good price. I’m going bananas over the joint work. Certainly helps get the Hulkbuster monkey off my back. Looking forward to howling around with this at the gibbon hour.
Tip your servers, I’m here all week.

Confused what you mean about the older one being more detailed. The shaping on this one looks way more elaborate and complex in general compared to the previous version, and I say that as a huge fan of the earlier set.

It's not laziness. It's accepting that at a certain scale, functioning knees compromise the structural strength of the model. Workarounds have been found, but those have been on smaller mechs (e.g. Zane's Titan Mech from a few years ago), or with a less streamlined form factor (e.g. Nya's Samurai X mech from this year). And this one not only has to support its own standard weight, but also the weight of the additional jetpack and weaponry that can be added to it.

Lol, that's just an excuse, all they need to do is use one or two of those grey/light grey click hinges that they're using in the thighs for the knee's. I only build poseable large mecha, and I have one on my desk using that very technique and it is extremely strong.
Granted, the ankle's will likely always be the weakest link.
I like the look of this set, and I will likely get it if it doesn't have any competition, I don't buy much by way of lego anymore.
Crazy that a mech 1/3 the size and 1/3 the price of Hulkbuster is designed 10x better..

It’s such a shame LEGO doesn’t give this the attention it deserves. Barely in their catalogs. Not in ANY stores....it’s such an amazing theme & would certainly sell better if more people were aware of it.
Just genuinely one of the most impressive Lego sets I've seen recently. Very big into the mechs they've been fitting into themes. I feel like this is the sort of stuff I wanted out of Exo-Force back in the day. Man, imagine a modern Exo-Force with some of these new parts and design techniques...
Heh, called 'the backpack' thing; but love the fact the jet also turns into a weapon...
Also, people keep saying "This is Chima now"...well...it is...but I'm also felling Nexo Knights through this...
Lastly, what with the 'weapons wheel' on the box...if M.K. and his allies put them all together, do they form...HEY, NINJAGO...:D

please. i need that.
Genuinely looks more like the Hulkbuster than the £475 hulkbuster set

yeah, they're not working knees, I guess structural integrity of the mech plus the flyer is too much, which is a shame. still, id rather get present knees than completely straight legs.
Disappointing it took until the fourth post for someone to use it to complain about the Hulkbuster set. The slack was soon taken up though.
This is such a lazy copy/paste theme. Might as well just call it Ninjago.

The thing with Monkie Kid is that it's very lopsided towards larger sets, and although each set is super detailed and pretty that also shows in the price.
They're clearly targetted to afluent people moreso than other themes.
Coupled with what you already mentioned, and I too sometimes forget about the theme being one of the few remaining unlicensed themes. Because for me only Creator, City and some of Ninjago are still in reach with affordable price point sets, as is Friends. But whilst Ninjago, City and Creator in particular have become a dumping ground for themes like underwater exploration, space, castle etc., MK at least does its own thing. Most of the time anyway.

I don't think that you get the concept here. This is targeted at the Chinese market, with a story based on Chinese myth. Not to mention that the TV series (and its production quality) is miles ahead of Ninjago.
Will this be the last set in the line?
Mech looks lit! Definitely interested.
I was wondering how they got the bunny ears to stay bent backwards, but now I see they use the shape of the plasma gun pieces to lock them down haha.

I'm with you on this one. If only they brought back exo-force -with these new building techniques. I have the first monkey King mech which was totally awesome.it would be better if they had working knees but I do understand at this size theyhave to prioritise stability. But I am sure there ia way around it.

Dangerous choice. I had the same idea (also with Ninjago Movie sets). They are so well done and great values that you run a terrible risk of the dreaded 'Lego theme expansion' and now I have no more room!
This is one of those sets that I'll keep a hi-res picture of in my computer, check it from time to time with envy...

agreed. i get Lego use it to appeal to their Chinese market, but that doesn't mean people elsewhere won't find it appealing
Con, no smaller mecha can be inserted into this one
Pro, I could buy 3x this set for about the same money as a single Hulkbuster, and combine them into a giant Monkie mecha larger than a Hulkbuster
Wait, the first point is pro too
Well, I'm not that into mechs, so I skipped the first version. This one has incredible minifigures, so I just might get it.
It looks awesome but is it bad that my first thought was that this thing is going to have a huge amount of stickers?
