Get cosy in the LEGO Ideas A-Frame Cabin

Banish those January blues with the new LEGO Ideas A-Frame Cabin set. Designed by Italian LEGO fan designer, Andrea Lattanzio, this set is the perfect retreat when you want to get away from it all. Inspired by A-framed log cabins, this set features two-stories complete with upper bedroom and ground-floor living room and kitchen.

Outside there is a deck with steps down to the great outdoors – where you will find a woodshed and intricate trees which are home to a friendly squirrel. The four included LEGO minifigures can get cosy by the fireplace, jam with the acoustic guitar or take a trip in the canoe.

Talking about his design, Andrea, a big LEGO fan, said; "I was looking through a book with many strange houses from all over the world and I discovered the A-Frame and it was love at first sight. I started with a sketch, so I had a clear vision and then built my design in about 10-days."

Additional images are available on the set details page.

There was significant interest in the A-Frame Cabin when its review success was confirmed in 2022, so what do you think of the updated design? Let us know in the comments and our poll.

Will you be buying this set?

By in Germany,

Certainly looks good, even close to the original, but it's too large for me.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

Expensive but it looks really cool. I will buy it :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

180??? amazing but goshdarnit i cant get it

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Seems like a scene from a horror movie :D

Gravatar
By in United States,

Oh it's beautiful...

Still no bathroom though

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

I Love It!!! Just a little pricey but beautiful set!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Makes me think of mister Bob Ross and his happy little trees :) Really nice set tho!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

"...jam with the acoustic guitar or take a trip in the canoe."
Set should be retitled "Deliverance playset"
Paddle faster, I hear banjos etc

Gravatar
By in Australia,

I wasn't initially that interested, but seeing it now, I really like the warmth of the Autumn tones against the wood. It's actually quite cute with the squirrel, otter and bird and even the blue milk!

I strongly suspect this set will make my list, I really like the bush and nature aesthetics.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks gorgeous. Thought it was interesting to note that the back of box artwork shows mixing and matching of minifig parts, something I dont think I've seen done in official images outside of Creator 3-in-1

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I'm really digging the esthetic of this model. The interior is surprisingly spacious.

I wonder if the rotation of hair pieces between the different minifigures, as displayed on the back of the box, was done op purpose.

Gravatar
By in Venezuela,

That's a lot of Mjölnirs at the bottom

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Nice that LEGO stayed very close to the original design (including the hammer pieces to mimic stones in the foundation). It seems that LEGO went for a holiday/camping theme. I do prefer the original fan design which gave me "Walden" vibes. But a great Ideas set nevertheless!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very interesting that they show the minifigs swapping parts in every shot. Not for me but looks great.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It does look nice. I may pick this up at some point. But I’m not sold on it yet. I already don’t use the browns I have. It would be hard to justify getting more.

Gravatar
By in United States,

love it. Need to pick up some work at the side gig so i can buy the jazz club (hoping to pick that one up on the 15th) and then this when it comes out

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is way out of my budget, but I think it looks beautiful. Much like 21335, I love the scene it creates. I really like this set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is so sponsored by VRBO.

Yes, at the back there is a shovel and toilet paper... Plus a shower. That's how it's done in the woods!

It looks gorgeous. I don't have room for it, but I might get it anyway.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Shocked it’s less than $200…! Looks great, but doesn’t fit my collection.

In LEGO Sales/Marketing's eyes...if/when you buy this...you are indeed worthy LOL.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Pretty cool, I like all the Mjölnirs in the front, the shower at the back and that you can detach the foliage from the side and put them together to stand on its own. The inside is really packed with details!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Beautiful set, definitely going to buy someday. I'll probably try and modify it to be a Mystery Shack, and I suspect many others will as well.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I'm in love...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Looks nice, but it's just not something I am interested in in the slightest. Pass.
Might buy the bright light orange / brown butterfly separately though.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

With so many Mjölnirs, heaviest set in Lego history? I hope they reinforced the box, just cardboard won't do....

All jokes aside, turned out better than expected. It lost a bit of the gritty realism of the original set, but didn't over-Legofy it. I might even like these trees more. And I think it really works as a whole. Nothing I would buy (and certainly not at that price), but pretty decent nonetheless.

good point

Gravatar
By in United States,

Too bad the trees where redesigned. I suspect that the original trees did not meet LEGO build standards.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Finally an Idea set I can pass on. Just not doing anything for me. Maybe sometime waaaaay down the road. Looks good however.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Thats a nice $70 set.

Gravatar
By in United States,

The piece count justifies the price tag technically, and maybe I'm misjudging the size, but it feels a little small to tack that price on it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Now we just need a B-frame, an X-frame, and a Y-wing, and maybe after 20 years we'll get a new Frame-Bomber.

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Nice to see a micro model of 21318: Tree House, possibly included to keep the reference as the original fan design of this copied furniture from that!

Pity the wedge plates in the walls aren't brown or similar, black really stands out. As does the black in the trees of course. Other than that a great looking set!

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Printed butterflies? Pretty cool!

Gravatar
By in Malaysia,

The set is otter-worthy.

If you drop the butterflies.

Gravatar
By in France,

Wow it looks lovely but 180€ ? Yikes !

Do we know the size of the built set ?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I want to live there.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The original idea had a bit more of a backwater/apocalyptic vibe, but it's perhaps understandable that they lightened the mood a little.

Is that light yellow hair new, or new this year?

Gravatar
By in Colombia,

Interesting reference to the donut thief from the Police Station.

There's a shower and a roll of toilet paper on the backside. I mean, this is out in the woods...

And yes, very beautiful and charming. It's a tad overpriced. 150 EU/USD would've been great. So, not a must-have to me, but a potential buy if it'll go on sale (which I doubt). For that price, it would've been nice to have extra leaf pieces, so you can update the set according to the seasons, for all-year display.

I also like the bit of continuity here, as the mom and dad from Santa's Visit return in this set for their outdoors vacation.

Gravatar
By in Belgium,

What’s up with the figures all swapping wigs? Haha! Love this set!

Gravatar
By in United States,

anyone else notice that the minifigures are all variations of each other? like they switch torsos, thats the second time wheve seen something like that (foosballtable being the other) could we see that with all unlicesnsed ideas sets?

(looking at the additional images, it seems that their ranomized, switching hair pieces, torsos, legs, heads!)

Gravatar
By in United States,

@johleth said:
"Thats a nice $70 set."
In what year would this 2100 piece set have been $70? I get that we all don’t love the price tag but we need to be reasonable here. A year ago, this set would have been $150, like the Blacksmith’s. LEGO is clearly pushing the price goal line back these days but this set would not be biggest offender.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

The cabin is great, but my goodness the figures are all hipsters. I refuse to let any of my Lego minifigs have a "man bun", that guy is about to experience premature hair loss

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I think it looks lush

I wish they could have kept the roof a little ramshackle somehow, but that's easily done by just loosening the pieces (which I think is how the original did it?).

I prefer the new trees. Lovely set overall.

I suspect it's the same piece as with the new friends character (Olly I think?) so it's new for this year.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm glad they have Ron Swanson in this set...

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Too bad its all renders. I wonder how it looks like with real plates as TLG has some quality issues with news brick's sprue point being highly visible.

My grandpa's A frame cabin had a bathroom. It was called outside.

Gravatar

I don't think they're renders. But fixed up as usual, with sprue marks removed etc. Then there's the "lifestyle" photos too.

Gravatar
By in Poland,

Woah. This is one of Ideas sets that actually looks better than the project! I will try to get it for pieces itself

Gravatar
By in Jordan,

It looks great! I love the cosy vibe.
I'm very glad they managed to keep the price under $200.

Gravatar

looks OK, but dont understand all the fuzz....

Gravatar

The poll is missing the option 'I want to pick this one up, but I'm not Worthy'

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Also I love the Octan stripes on that fuel can out the back. That kind of little thing just makes me smile.

Gravatar
By in Spain,

but...there is only one bed for 4 people??

Gravatar

and the man with long hair in the canoe in the second photo??

Gravatar

Gravatar

I'm fairly certain these are photos. Not only based on how they look, but in one of the shots, the camera lens and photographer's hand is visible in a reflection.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Pricey

Gravatar
By in United States,

Tempted to get this rather than waiting for a 40% off discount on the Motorized Lighthouse. It definitely scratches the same itch for me

Please see 40651. My understanding is that it's called a 'dunny' or 'drop toilet.' Here in the U.S., we call it a 'voting booth.'

Gravatar
By in United States,

I expected this at $200+ so seeing it for $180 is kind of a nice surprise. Although is it still expensive? Of course. Will I still buy it when there is a great GWP or 2xVIP? Of course.

Simply put: Wow.

Gravatar

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

This is a lovely model, with some especially cool features that will surely pique the interest of fans (Thor’s hammer?). I’m sure the forthcoming review will make mention of the greedy price-tag.

Gravatar
By in United States,

This is really nice! It falls in line with the Fishing store in my mind. It's a fun way to balance the city of modular buildings with some more rural options.

Mjölnir battlepack! Mjölnir, Mjölnir, Mjölnir!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I like it a lot. For those who think it doesn't look as good as the original fan design - it's true, but in the fan design, he had some of the wooden plank pieces not pushed all the way down to create texture. Lego can't do that in their official models as they shown them (because it's illegal), but you can still build them with plank pieces slightly loose to create the texture of the original one

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks nice, but not sure where I'd put it. Might pick it up if there's a good GWP I want later on.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

As soon as I saw the pictures of this, I thought it'd be one of those 'one day, maybe' sets. But actually, it's not as expensive as I'd expected. It's a really nice design, and has some lovely details in it. Definitely one of the more expensive sets I'll be considering this year.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Stunning, just needs an FJ40, and an genderless outhouse.

Gravatar
By in Czechia,

Really nice but the price is ridiculous. Might buy it once a bit discounted though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I have loads of outdoor sets, mostly Creator 3-in-1. While not a named theme or subtheme Lego does keep coming out with sets in that vein. So I'm partial to this set. I really like what I see. Two drawbacks that are both related - one, the set is very large compared to the other Outdoor sets I have and, two, that size leads to a high price.

This is definitely a set I still have to rank and see where it falls before I buy it.

This one deserves a grade of A, for sure. My only complaint is that the promotional images swap minifig heads around.

Note that it could be integrated into Western displays.

It appears, by observation of box art and minifigures over the last year, that LEGO has added a social justice/diversity/representation requirement for all new products (at least adult-oriented ones).

Gravatar
By in Hungary,

Earth green 4x3 window frames!

Gravatar
By in Singapore,

Spiders are exactly why my wife don't like sleeping in the woods!
But BURP sideways, yes please! This set looks amazing though, and so much play and story telling opportunities! Big thumbs up!

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I was expecting to like this, but I prefer the original, this looks too seamless for me, it needs to be a bit more rustic, jagged edges, etc. The colour too is not as attractive and the trees don't look that good.

Gravatar

Excellent. Takes me straight back to the Finlake holiday lodges I stayed in 35+ years ago!

First, those are LEGO minifigs, mening you can do whatever the heck you want to do with them. The box only shows what everybody has been doing for the past 40 years.

Second, why not adding a social justice/diversity/representation requirement for all new products ? It's 2023 afterall, not the 1950s.

Gravatar
By in Italy,

Granted it's a modular, and it looks excellent. But what kind of building would you attach it to? And why? After all, it's supposed to be a cabin in the wild and you wouldn't want your neighbours to be that close...

Gravatar
By in United States,

The brick-built trees and plants have been excellent as of late. This looks really nice. Congrats to the designer(s)!

Gravatar
By in Canada,

This is by far Lego’s best set since Fishing store, price-wise and design wise.

Puts sets like Black Panther bust that cost double to utter shame.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I like it, and it will be easily modded into a Christmas piece by adding some snow and using white tree leaves.

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Oooooh. I’m a sucker for autumn/fall theming. Love it.

Gravatar
By in United States,

So cool to see lego take an ideas concept and turn it into something appealing for the mainstream. Was one of my favorite ideas recently, and the final product has fixed most of my complaints. Not sure yet when I’ll get it, but very impressed

Gravatar
By in Canada,

Happily surprised how nice it is. It looks fairly faithful to the original.

It has: 4 butterflies, 1 otter, 1 frog, 1 squirrel and 2 birds; not bad for an outdoorsy set. Trees are also very nicely done.

In all that nature and healthy surrounding, we can still see the Octan company. In a Friends set everything would be electric and rechargeable and solar and wind-power. Maybe that's why it is a 18-year old set. You don't want to confront our youth with oil or oil-derivative products for they may go nuts.

I'm still on the fence on this one. There is a Liebherr 13000 coming as well as an Orient Express and 'apparently' (rumours for now) a Gringotts bank also coming later on. All of those will be big ticket items and I would also not mind a Mos Eisley Cantina before it retires.

Gravatar
By in United States,

It is very funny to me that people are still complaining about diversity in a set with all-yellow minifigures.

I want LEGO to come out with a figure that has vitiligo and a misplaced rangefinder.

They're still mostly yellow, so not much diversity to speak off. And long hair on dudes is nothing new.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

To those saying it's a modular: it's not on a baseplate, and the connectors are 2 plates higher regardless. Even if they were at the right height, the roof overhangs and is in the way. It would need some major rebuilding.

Someone asked how big it was: the main building is 24x24 studs, and ~30 studs tall, which would make it 19.2 x 19.2 x 24 cm. Dont qoute me on that though.

It's not modular. The pin on the left of the A-frame is used to connect the wood pile for the stove. I assume the Technic connector on the right side is used to attach the trees. Unless...

we get: set 21339 Steep Escarpment which will attach to the right of the A-Frame and
set 21340 White Water River which will attach to the left of the A-Frame. (Don't keep you hopes too high, while this would be cool, this is a joke and would make this scenery fairly expensive)

Gravatar
By in Canada,

I have nothing negative to say about the set, it's charming and the colour choices are very warm and cozy. At the same time, I feel no need to own it, so will be skipping this one as not sure where to place it, I find the "Old Fishing Store" to be a bit more connectable to a city layout.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Also, I do plan to buy it, but I've learned (ie, Lego has taught me) to wait until there's a GWP I want or double VIP points and time my purchase properly.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

How can we be sure the squirrel is "friendly"...?

Gravatar
By in Australia,

My criticism is that it wen from "cabin in the woods somewhere" (in the original submission) to "cabin in a manicured campground". It just doesn't feel as rustic or old as the submission (the use of more bright colors doesn't help, the green parts should have been olive green or dark green rather than the normal green). The Fishing Store managed to retain the feel of the original submission so I am sure they could have done it with this one...

Gravatar

I hope we get a free polybag with a masked serial killer to go with it

It is Friday the 13th...

It's funny the Cabin build in 31139: Cozy House (brown roof) has the bathroom, and the normal houses in that set don't :)

By in United Kingdom,

I'm guessing that the trees got changed because the original style was too fiddly or parts intensive. A bit of a pity because they were quite natural looking in a way that the revised ones aren't. However I do like this and I will get it, whether I'll be able to keep it built or will have to dismantle and store it I'm not sure.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

I love it, but it's just too expensive, and space is finally running out.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I would think that rear photo with the shower, the door is a towel hanging there. I know it has been used as toilet paper before, but in this context I wouldn't call that toilet paper. But I guess that's the beauty of the imagination.

The set overall looks pretty solid. I like it more than the submission. But even with the decent price, I don't know if I can swing another few hundred that I wasn't originally planning on. I've been trying to cut down LEGO expenditures thanks to everything else going on in the world and prices going up.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Well, it's the shovel next to the towel/TP roll that implies toilet paper, IMO. The outside shower is just a neat touch.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Octan seems to have leaned into the gas heating business, as well as the rocket fuel business. Really covering all the bases.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I want to see a picture of this by the tree house set from a couple years ago.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Those yellow with brown markings are moths not butterflies.

Maybe Vangelis' mask would work for that serial killer vibe some of you are after: 892174

Gravatar
By in United States,

The only thing I don't like about this is that is severely reduced the chances of us getting a Mystery Shack. :(

Looks great though! :)

Gravatar
By in United States,

The cabin is nice but the hipsters have to go

Gravatar

This will look great next the treehouse

Are any of those hammers or the whole building owned by a guy named Maxwell Silverhammer? It would certainly fit the serial killer angle of the building!

(currently listening to Beatles - Abbey Road album and the song about Max came on. Too much coincidence to resist it.)

Gravatar
By in United States,

Looks like we got the Mystery Shack through after all

Jokes aside this looks really nice. Probably won't get it but it looks like a strong start for Ideas this year

Gravatar
By in United States,

Nice set but like others have said way too expensive.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Love the set, and as an amateur entomologist, I’ve been wanting Lego moths forever! My favorite group of animals. They really did their research and patterned them after a real species of moth, which is surprising attention to detail, considering how many people tend to overlook moths.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sad trees compared to the original, cabin colors seem off too. Great selection of animals but not $180 great.

It looks really nice. Is this the first Minifig scale moth?

Gravatar
By in United States,

I got to say I love the design of the trees and hope we see more like this in the future.

Gravatar
By in Czechia,

With a flat 30% standard Ideas discount I for sure will get it :)

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Lego could sell this set at a 1/3 of the price and you'll still have the same people moaning about it being "too expensive".

Gravatar
By in United States,

This lacks so much of the charm in the original design. Disappointing honestly.

Note that it could be integrated into Western displays."

It appears, by observation of box art and minifigures over the last year, that LEGO has added a social justice/diversity/representation requirement for all new products (at least adult-oriented ones). "

But only in western sets it seems. Just look att the traditional chinese sets for example, no minifigures with a disability and no diversity. Lego is just like Disney and other big companys, who hide black people in film posters in countries of the middle east.

By in Portugal,

Very disapointed. Fan model was way better. These trees are awfull. The same happened with jazz quartet. I really loved the fan model and the lego version was terrible...

Gravatar

Lego fans output > Lego designer’s.

Gravatar
By in Puerto Rico,

An Idea set, not on a baseplate?

Gravatar
By in Poland,

the tonal shift is a bit sad but understandable... the og was more people from the woods, not tourist cabin with city folk...

still nice, but will pass it for sure

Gravatar

I prefer to use a bucket than dig my own hole.

Also, why no poo pieces?

I believe it’s the first moth in general! The only other moth-adjacent Lego products I can think of are the 3 Killer Moth minifigs from Batman and his Mighty Micros Mothmobile, which looked more like a housefly-mobile in my opinion.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Something that's occurred to me: I think this set will hold the record for most Mjonirs in a set forever.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Does anyone know or can tell if the four windows on the two sides can be pushed out? There seems to be a 1x4 tile at the base of the windows that seems somewhat recessed out, and I wonder if that’s the piece to “grab onto” and pull up.

I expect that they can’t or else that movement would have been in the promo video but it’s be awesome if they could!

Gravatar
By in Austria,

Another Ideas set butchered by the laziness and ineptitude of LEGO designers.
And with a ridiculously overpriced tag to go alongside it.

Nope.
This one will be a skip unless I find it for 150€ or less, which is the actual value of the set after being ruined in comparison who what we actually voted for.

It's the two studs deep window frame so no they can't.

"Are brown pieces still brittle or has that been already sorted out?"

Lego has changed the brown recipe so it shouldn't be brittle anymore. I think they made the change around 2018. I haven't had any problems with parts from this era, but it's a little too soon to tell if they have fixed it.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Well it looks good, but it also looks like it shouldn't cost more than £90. A lot of the roof detailing has been lost in translation, but that was inevitable. I'll have to reserve judgement until the review, and seeing it in the brick though!

I loved the original trees but appreciate that the final version also has elaborate and realistic trees. I think this is one of the better revisions of a large Ideas set, even though I'm not sure I actually want to buy it.

By in United Kingdom,

Sad they failed to keep the wooden effect as the original for walls & roof, that’s what really pulled the eye onto this build for me. Lots of coo details inside. Not sure if will get it due to space issues.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Honestly I like it, but for what it costs there's just other sets that are much higher priority for me, and don't have a place to put it. Still love the Lego is making things like this though.
