April Fool's round-up
Posted by Huw,I hope you enjoyed the April Fool's pranks that we published on Saturday!
Unfortunately, LEGO is not committed to cancelling 10% of its products, which is perhaps a shame given how bloated its product portfolio seems to be at the moment.
CapnRex101 came up with the original idea, and we were aided by Jay at Jay's Brick Blog and Alex at Tips and Bricks, a collaboration that was hatched when we met at Skaerbaek last year. RacingBrick also made a video about it and if you're wondering what LEGO's Head of Product Termination Cloë Clavotsen -- an anagram for "loves to cancel" -- is like, watch it to find out!
Also unfortunately, 010423 The Majestic Horse will never be released but we'll leave it in our database because it does exist in some sense. You can find out more about it in Are M Heiseldal's article The Majestic Horse: The Making of LEGO's April Fools' Prank at BrickNerd.
Check out Jay's Brick Blog for a full round-up of all the LEGO-related gags spotted over the weekend, and if you're new around here you might enjoy our best ones from previous years:

Damn, those were some good ones!
Amazing how so many people wake up forgetting the date and then are surprised by "news".
you guys sure that R2-D2 brickheadz isn't an april fools either?
Indiana one wasn't that funny since sets just released
I'm going to assume the answer is no, but are there any instructions available for the majestic horse box art model?
I would love to build it, but there are a few bits I can't work out how to reverse engineer.

Lucky we didn't mention them in our pranks then -- you must have read that one somewhere else.

We've been asked not to distribute it, probably because it employs some dodgy building techniques.

Ouch.

That's a shame, it's a beautiful model, but it's nice to preserve the set's uniqueness.

Whining about too much choice?
Our announcement that the original UCS Falcon was being re-released was a fun one too. Only to be outdone by LEGO later doing it themselves for real. :o)

I think you mean doge-y building techniques ;-)

Guess we'll just have to reverse engineer it based off the many pictures :')
The horse was funny, the cancelation of 10% of sets was not. lol
Is there a way someone could at least scan the instructions for the horse set?
In future, can you delete comments spoiling the joke? At least until 12 hours have passed.
I was hoping the nearly instant sell out of the Houses of the World set was a joke...
I'd almost forgotten about Brickset expanding its database to include clone brands. I know it'll never happen, but if it did, I know I'm not the only one who'd make use of it (I have a few of the old Mega Blox World of Warcraft sets and still occasionally pick up a Mega Construx Pokémon), as I know some of the German fans almost seem to think clone brands have beaten Lego at their own game. I won't ame names, but if you spend enough time in the comment section, you've probably noticed the phenomenon. I had completely forgotten about the Mattel and Game of Thrones ones. (Talk about licenses Lego wouldn't touch with a ten-, no, a hundred-foot pole!)
What a cruel joke. Lol
I loved it as much as I hated it.

I would agree with the "bloated" product portfolio comment. Given the current financial environment and increased costs for LEGO it would definitely help by reducing the number of skus per theme/sub-theme. Too often do I find one set competes with another for my money and, sadly, sometimes I walk away empty-handed.
While I get why LEGO marketing is doing this as they want to get your money any way they can worried that this will come back on them. Sure, they've made the sale to the retailers but when the retailer has to bow these out 8-12 months later they are gong to be more restricted in what they carry...already seeing them carrying reduced volumes as it is.
As for the horse/sneakered ??...love the set number (and, yes, the proper SI date format of dd/mm/yyyy!)
The alternate head and feet on the horse made me laugh so hard. I showed the pictures to my family and they just gave the that "oh boy dad's laughing at crazy stuff again' look. That made me laugh even harder. I love Brickset's April Fool's articles, look forward to them every year!
The horse got me the day after. Saw it 1st april and thougth it as a joke. But saw the day after a new post up here with it. but did not read it. Maybe it as real after all. But later i saw that the first was true.
Did not know Are Heisendal was involved.
The Majestic Horse is an all-time favorite. I loved that it wasn't even an entirely different model, but a doge head and red sneakers added to the regular horse body. The fact that the review was so oblivious and sincere about such a hilariously ridiculous thing made it that much better ("These red and white shoes are too vibrant, especially compared with the saddle, while their shape is noticeably inaccurate"). Masterful job, CapnRex!

To be fair, even if you're thinking about April Fool's pranks the night before, firing up AFOL sites the next morning while still half-groggy allows panic to spread through your brain just a tiny bit faster than you can remember what you were thinking about before climbing into bed.
I’d not leave any fake set in the database. Within. Year people will forget the horse was a joke or will be new to the hobby. It pollutes the data set
@david20009:
The problem is, they _did_ ship a physical "set" to all the participating AFOL sites. It can't un-exist, just because April 1st is over. The Osprey was officially cancelled, and all copies were recalled by LEGO Brand Retail, except they did ship some stock to other retailers, and they were allowed to shelf it. So, even being cancelled, it does physically exist.

What about those awesome Duplo Design models? How do I find instructions for those? ;)
@Huw Are the Pick a Brick-model winners a late joke or real?
