Sonic the Hedgehog theme announced!

Posted by ,

LEGO has partnered with Sega a couple of times before, developing 71244 Sonic the Hedgehog Level Pack and 21331 Sonic the Hedgehog - Green Hill Zone. Now the famous hedgehog has a dedicated theme of his own! The press release follows:

Today, the LEGO Group and SEGA revealed a fresh collaboration bringing fan-favourite characters and environments from across the Sonic universe to brick form. With the brand new ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ product range from the LEGO Group, Sonic fans can build, create and play as Sonic, Tails, Amy and Dr. Eggman in beloved levels including Sonic’s Speed Sphere, Tails’s Workshop and Tornado Plane, Amy’s Animal Rescue Island and the iconic Green Hill Zone. The LEGO Sonic product range will be available at authorised retailers starting in August 2023.

“At SEGA, we strive to create memorable experiences with our licensing partners that fans will cherish for years to come,” said Ivo Gerscovich, Chief Business & Brand Officer at SEGA of America. “The LEGO Group is the leader in play, and the perfect partner to bring exciting stories, iconic characters & environments from the Sonic universe to life in fans’ living rooms globally. Through our creative collaboration with the LEGO Group, Sonic fans of all generations can use their imaginations to play out their favourite Sonic moments, and we can’t wait to see their awesome creations.”

The LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog collaboration features four sets of different sizes and complexity with modular elements inviting Sonic fans to build high-velocity obstacles for Sonic to blast through as he battles the Badniks and rescues his friends. Sonic fans can get creative, construct their own unique courses, combine sets and invent new storylines, or reminisce their treasured memories as they challenge the beloved hedgehog to be the hero of the day.

With all-new toy accessories, builders will have unique role-playing opportunities where they can step into the Blue Blur’s iconic red sneakers and spend time with his famous friends, hang out at the DJ deck, repair the Tornado plane and more fun activities.

The product range from SEGA and the LEGO Group furthers the global companies’ collaborative efforts, following the highly successful LEGO Ideas Sonic the Hedgehog Green Hill Zone set, released in 2021.

“It really isn’t like anything else! The sets offer an entirely new, action-packed play experience,” says Frédéric Roland Andre, Designer at the LEGO Group. “I’m especially proud of the Speed Sphere, as it was quite a challenge to figure out how we would get Sonic to speed up and interact with each course. Sonic is known for his speed and how he runs and jumps through courses, so for LEGO sets inspired by him there was no way we could create a static set, we simply had to be creative and make them as action-packed as possible!”

Let’s roll! The LEGO Sonic The Hedgehog sets are on sale from August 1st, 2023, on www.LEGO.com and in LEGO stores.

To stay current on Sonic the Hedgehog news, follow Sonic on Twitter and Instagram, like him on Facebook, subscribe to the Twitch channel and the YouTube channel. Also, don’t forget to visit the SEGA e-shop at shop.sega.com for products for the ultimate SEGA fan.

By in United Kingdom,

Some good sets here, love the Badnik designs, with the exception of Green Hill Zone Loop Challenge, the prices aren't too bad either.

By in United Kingdom,

Looking pretty good! As a sonic fan I wish they were doing more than *just* Green Hill Zone for every set (for non-sonic fans, think of it as like Tattooine in Star Wars when it comes to sheer overuse lately!) and the lack of Knuckles is pretty strange (surely this means a second wave's a shoo-in?), but what's here is decent enough and a great starting point for some Sonic-y MOCs! I'm down!

By in Canada,

Very play-oriented, like the Mario sets. Will pass

Gravatar
By in United States,

The sets do not feel like they make a coherent wave. It is a shame that Knuckles Mighty and Ray is not here. Will wait for a discount for some of them

Gravatar
By in Ireland,

I really like the look of that biplane.

The new minifig containment ball thingy seems interesting too, like a bigger version of the gyrosphere from the Jurassic World sets a few years ago.

Ooh and a printed 1x1 round tile for a lime to go along with the lemon and orange.

By in United Kingdom,

Some interesting new parts......

But the prices are TLG inflated.....
Discounts will be required for me to buy these.

Whew. I love it when Lego launches a theme I have no interest in buying. (Not a knock on those of you who want this--I just appreciate my wallet getting a break.)

Minifigure-based sets? Sega really does what Nintendont

Gravatar
By in Denmark,

I kind of like the idea that you can play the course and launch the Sonic sphere and try to hit the golden rings. If that is indeed the case, of course. That seems like and excellent way to play with the LEGO and come up with even more challenging ways of collecting those rings.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

Looks like fun playsets, yet I feel too old for them. But I sure like the minifigs! I could imagine buying a decorative set - like a character booster or something - if the first wave is successful.

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Oh boy, my 8yo son is going to bankrupt me on this theme..

Gravatar
By in Sweden,

Not a huge sonic fan but I appreciate that Lego went to the route of colorful play-oriented sets that don’t focus on digital interactions.

I don’t think I’d pay retail but I wouldn’t say they look too overpriced.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Robotnik gets a proper big fig form! Instead of that honestly weird looking brick built form.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I like it! I probably won't buy any of the sets, but I think it was a smart choice the way they designed it for play! The prices aren't great, but they aren't too bad either. I'm glad to see a better Eggman, Tails and Amy although we are missing Knuckles. I'm curious to see how well the sets perform. Kids might enjoy it more because of the movies, but we'll have to see.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Surprised at the lack of a Knuckles minifigure, but overall decent looking sets. Haven’t had a new play mechanic like this in a decent amount of time, not counting the many spinjitzu reworks. Looks pretty fun

Gravatar
By in United States,

Can a Sonic expert explain why there's a lounge chair for Sonic to sit on in each set he's in? Is there a gag in the games where Sonic just wants to relax? I thought I was somewhat familiar with the series (mostly SA2 from when I was younger) but I do not remember anything like that.

Gravatar
By in United States,

A lot of the value seems to be in the play functions, which is admittedly lost on an AFOL like me. Glad people like them, though - it shows that LEGO is listening to the fans.

Gravatar
By in United States,

These are so cute! I love the abundant play features, and it's really clever how some of the tiny Friends animals have been repurposed as the rescued animals from the Badniks!

I expect future waves might include other characters like Knuckles as well as potentially other environments. Dunno if I'll get these—I'm not as much of a Sonic fan as I am a Mario fan—but they do look delightful.

Gravatar
By in Germany,

That's pretty cool! And it should work a lot better than the Stuntz bikes. Bravo!

Agreed! Plus the Sonic play functions just seem more fun than the Mario sets where you simply bop the Mario figure around and scan barcodes like you're a checkout clerk at a grocery store.

For me personally, I was a Sega Genesis guy back in the day, so these Sonic sets hit the nostalgia centers of my brain way more than the Mario sets ever could.

I was having trouble finding it in 76992 Amy's Animal Rescue Island until I saw that it is pink in the box art, but looks brown in the render.

Gravatar
By in United States,

this is everything mario wasnt, a good gimmick that is (relativly) affordable and makes sense with the ip its based off of. the only bad thing about these are the prices $39.99 for tails plane is crazy! the wave as a whole really suffers from monkey kid syndrone, where youre really pricing out the kids who are the main demographic, by not having a small $15-25 set youre not letting people try out the theme and see if its something that they want to invest their money into. also does anyone know what happend to the large robotonic mech in the background of the teaser video? it wasnt revealed here and i think it might be a retail exclusive?

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

I don't know the Sonic games (but of course I've heard of them) but there's some good stuff in here: some good models (especially that biplane), nice recolours on the Stuntz ramps and the minifig Zorbball looks intersting.

Gravatar
By in Brazil,

The sets looks great. Will get some once I find them properly discounted (will be doing this for every Lego set now). It might be predictable, but... how I wish the Mario theme had minifigure sets too...

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Decent discount on Amazon and I'll be all over these I think.

Play function is a heavy focus but not too much work to use those pieces to link a good scene together.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Tempted to get the Biplane with Tails to go with the Ideas Sonic set I picked up recently.

That new Robotnik/Eggman figure looks great too, shame it's in a £100 set I'm not that interested in.

Gravatar
By in United States,

As a Sonic fan, I’m really happy with this first wave! The builds are simple, but I think that will help with expanding Green Hill Zone into one giant obstacle course.

Nice to finally have more figures other than Sonic! Eggman may be a big fig, but seeing him as an actual figure is nice. Makes it easier to build robots and vehicles for him to pilot!

C'mon, don't be a downer. Clearly *someone* asked for this, and we previously had a Sonic Dimensions pack and level, and the Ideas set. Both appear to have been successful enough that there was interest in creating a line.

There's *lots* of Lego lines I don't buy. They're not for me, but they're apparently for somebody and that's fine.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

It feels like ageS since I last played a Sonic game (Sonic 2 on the mega-drive possibly!), (AND I missed out on the Dimensions set), but I really like the look of these sets. Likely to grab 76990 at some point just to test it out.

My deepest apologies sir, I can’t believe we let this slip through the cracks. Absolutely shameful that Lego would release 4 entire sets that don’t appeal directly to you. And of course there’s nothing else in their catalogue that appeals to you! Just thousands and thousands of unspent Lego dollars waiting for something decent to roll along. We’ll do better next time.

Gravatar

Lego will have to give the set designers a prrrrrrromotion!

My guess is they went with Amy instead to catch the female demographic. But I agree, without him and shadow, seems like a second wave is a certainty.

Does that mean we get a Super Sonic minifig eventually?!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Even though I've never been much of a Sonic fan, I've wanted every theme that had a minfig in Dimensions to have at least one set--and Sonic is finally getting his own theme!

I'm also very glad it's minifig-based. LEGO not releasing a range of minifig sets based on the new Mario film seems to have been a huge lost opportunity given the film's success.

Gravatar
By in France,

Where's Shadow ? :D

I love how they put Sonic in a ball to recreate the spindash, that's going to be awesome for kids to play with.

The Tails minifig + the plane is a very tempting completion to the 21331 but the rest of the set is quite useless to me so we'll see, after a discount it's a maybe

Gravatar
By in United States,

I love the fact that there doesn't seem to be any app integration... it was getting really annoying imo

“Don’t talk to me nor my sons.”

Anyway, great reuse of City Stuntz pieces. Looks like a bright, fun theme.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

These look good - but why so few rings in each set??

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Glad that TLG have left all the Mario technology behind and gone back to just building bricks. Interesting to see how well the sphere spins as just seem to be pushing down on the edge rather than the usual pump to blow air or spring recoil. I am not sure if this will be enough to do a $100 loop although I will wait and see what the reviews say.

Gravatar

Insert "shut up and take my money"-meme here

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

The sets are visually quite interesting and the play features could be fun, plus the little bits of "character" they've added like the recliner, etc., but I'm not sold on the prices. Tails' Workshop seems a little thin for its price, and Amy's Animal Rescue isn't much better though it has more play features.

Gravatar

Could be wrong, but it looks like one of the trans-blue pieces for the ball sonic’s in but recoloured - really clever parts reuse if so!

Sure looks like one to me.

Other than that, not too much interest in this theme. I never played any Sonic games as a kid either, so not even nostalgia points.
But that's okay, I can't keep up with building all the sets I already have in storage anyway.

Hi! Yes, that is a reference to the ending screen after beating Sonic's story in Sonic Adventure where sonic sits on the beach in a similar style. Some of the older 90's sonic cartoons also reference this pose, but I can't remember which ones off of the top of my head.

Sonic gets cool minifigure scale stuff that also allow for play. Meanwhile Mario is limited to that fat ugly play only digital thing

Most alarmingly why is a Zombie or Ice Giant playing with the set in the box art?!

That hand slaming the device looks weird in the gray!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm so glad to see Sonic get his own theme. Such an iconic character!

I used to play Sonic 1, 2 & Sonic CD to death as a teenager, so Tails and Amy are ideal picks for minifigs in my book! And I love the Tornado!

So many opportunities for MOCs! I'm inspired to make a South Island or Angel Island Architecture Skyline!

I wouldn't consider this the opposite at all. Yes, these use minifigures, but both themes seem to be emphasizing physical play in a way that really suits physical Lego playsets.

I cleared off a shelf last year in anticipation of this theme (and to hold the Ideas set). I'm more of a minifigure kind of guy, so I'm probably only going to get the Amy and Tails set, but if the rest of the line goes on good enough discount I might swing for 'em.

Everyone's talking about Knuckles, who's an obvious exclusion, but tell me when my boy Vector shows up!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Need a Super Sonic to make Sonichu.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I’ll be the first one to say it, but I’m rather disappointed that Sonic isn’t like the Mario sets, it would have been wonderful if they could integrate together, especially since Mario and Sonic do appear together in all the Olympics games. I know that AFOLs would find this blasphemous, but my kids absolutely love the Mario sets to the point that my daughter who never liked Lego now only wants Mario sets for her birthday (the introduction of Peach helped as well).

Yes, I did buy the Ideas set, and that is definitely more of an AFOL set as it looks fantastic on display and isn’t really a play set. These add the nice Super Monkey Ball feature, but don’t really look too good on display. I really think that a Mario minifigure set would need to be a one off 18+ set, and that this Sonic line should have been with scanners like Mario.

By the way, I assume that when they do release a Knuckles set, there will be a slot at the top of the set where you can insert these sets.

Yeah! No one asked for a Sonic lego theme!
Just ignore the person that wanted this after the Lego Dimensions DLC and the literal Lego Sonic we got, all the ideas submissions, fans and,
you know what?
Lego's over.
No one gets legos now.

Crash Bandicoot next!

Gravatar
By in United States,

The prices aren’t good but the two sets with ramps are comparable to Stuntz so if you compare the US prices, the Sonic ones are merciful as all heck. I already have the flywheel motorcycles sold separately, no need to buy any of the hideous overpriced garbage sets from the actual Stuntz line when I can double the sets or at least some of the pieces from the Sonic theme instead. These can also balance both play and display without sacrificing the latter— Sega does what Nintendon’t!
I know she’s too recent and specific but I want them to include Sage in one of the sets, she’s one of the best recent Sonic designs imo.

Totally get you, I've felt that way about Star Wars lately despite loving the theme in general. As for this one, I suspect I have a kiddo who'll be adding these to his wish list!

Gravatar
By in United States,

I really like these, I'm sure my oldest daughter will demand the Green Hill zone one! Great use of the Stuntz parts. I just wish they had designed the rings with a side stud so they could be stacked (or just use the existing element in yellow). The new design will make the rings very unwieldy.

Gravatar
By in United States,

My big negative with these is the use of stickers on some of the animal mechs. I think it’s a sin for LEGO to ask us to use stickers for any character based model. Those should 100% always be prints. I find it weird I’m the only one bringing it up. It actually stopped me from buying the Ideas set. Looks like I’m the weird one this time around xD

Nicely done LEGO. These sets look good. I'm not too wild about the prices, but this is the age that we're in right now.

Knuckles, Super Sonic, Shadow, and Metal Sonic would be great for wave 2.

Are there stickers? I'm not anti-sticker myself but apart from one of the pictures of the smallest set (which might just be a visual error, since the same part appears to be printed in other pictures), all the Badnik eye patterns look printed to me.

Gravatar

Plenty of play/action which is good to see. Also like the variety of the small animals in the Amy set. But, much like the Mario sets, I'll pass as it's just not of interest to me.

Gravatar
By in Czechia,

Pass. Next?

Gravatar
By in United States,

For the bigger pieces/molds and all things considered, those prices aren’t terrible, I’d’ve probably put the big one at $90 instead of $100 but it’s still not outrageous. That being said, the character selection is… odd. Sonic NOT being in one and the other two being in two, when there are so many characters in the franchise (the obvious shoo-ins for the next wave being Knuckles and Shadow) just seems weird, in the same way that it weirdly took so long to get Peach for Mario

Overall pretty cool, but probably a pass. I think the adult set already released is the only foray into the franchise I would consider, as this is clearly more play oriented/for younger consumers

Gravatar
By in United States,

Quite like the models. Decent playability with not-horrible appearance. And the side builds are nice as well, to give a speedster a less hyper-dynamic option for display, and a little extra charm.

76991 and 76994 seems to be the ideal combination if you didn't have the prior Green Hill Zone set, so as to get all the characters. Somewhat interested to see what the Egg-Robot looks like, whenever that gets revealed. Also keen to see how well the launcher functions.

I thought that one of the bad guys used stickers (it is hard to be certain in just the render). I agree it's one piece for 2 different characters - looks like a sticker in 1 and a print in the other so we will see. I know the basic bad guy in the Ideas set used a sticker for it's face though.

Gravatar
By in United Kingdom,

Disappointed. Was hoping that they'd follow the excellent Ideas set, unfortunately they don't and Lego have managed to make the robots worse.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I feel like just using the generic Sonic 1 "Green Hill" aesthetic for these sets is a big missed opportunity. For example: Tail's workshop. That could've easily based it on its design from Sonic Adventure 1, and maybe could've included an enemy from that game as well instead of a Buzz Bomber. Like with Mario, Sonic has a lot of iconic locations and enemies from across the series that would work well in Lego form, and just using generic theming feels like missed potential.
Now granted, focusing too much on Sonic 1 is an issue the series has dealt with since Generations, so it's not unique to the Lego sets, but still.

Gravatar
By in United States,

I'm looking forward to more of these sets. Definitely want Tails' workshop. Would love to see an X-Tornado with Tails, Sonic, Amy, Cream & Cheese, and Chris. I would also love Tails' Sonic Adventure 2 Plane with Car and walker modes.

I think that all the sets are cool, however they don’t feature any of the interesting characters like big or chaos for that matter. I would also like to see more “adventure” oriented designs and sets in the future. We also NEED a Shadow minifigure along with Infinite! More zones are also needed. I hope that this theme turns into what Star Wars or Ninjago have become. It would be nice to have some sets come out each year. But I think I speak for all when I say we need some more “current” sets. Some sonic movie sets would also be appreciated.

These looks like a +4 sets, or a skin to "Stuntz", not saying it's bad or good, just that it's not for me. I think I'll just get Tails from BL to have next to the idea set.

My guess is Portal; seeing as it and Midway Arcade are the only two video-game-focused themes that LEGO did in Dimensions that have yet to get a set; and I think there was an Ideas submission that actually got the required votes, but was passed on during review.

Mission Impossible, The A-Team, and Knight Rider also don't have full sets--and I'm hoping to see some, particularly for the last two.

Maybe. Maybe. One thing seems clear, though. For the second time in my life, a Mario Bros movie is the top-grossing video game movie of all time, and they have not announced a single tie-in set. Pong is getting a minifig-based theme before Mario.

We definitely should get some Zelda sets as well as maybe final fantasy or kingdom hearts. I am a fan of all three.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

They don’t really do anything for me but I like the minifigs and the plane. Eggman looks cool. May get them at discount.

Um, the original Mario Bros. movie flopped REALLY hard. But, I guess because it was the first video game film, it had to be top of that chart.

I wouldn't consider this the opposite at all. Yes, these use minifigures, but both themes seem to be emphasizing physical play in a way that really suits physical Lego playsets."

True.

Oh, yeah, I never said they were the most profitable. But yes, on a cheap technicality, the 1993 Mario Bros movie became the highest-grossing video game movie of all time, as soon as the first ticket was sold. It ground to a halt shy of $40 million. Still counts. A year and a half later, Street Fighter crept past it with _almost_ $100 million. Not quite a year after that, Mortal Kombat took the uneasy throne with nearly $125 million, and the first to break into nine-digit box office numbers. Three years later, Pokémon: The First Movie lazily sauntered past to almost $173 million. Three years after that, the first Tomb Raider managed to kick it up a notch with $275 million (and the first of only three to beat the previous record by more than $100 million). Almost a whole decade passed before Prince of Persia (the first movie on this list to get a LEGO theme) stumbled to a new record of over $336 million. And six years later it lost the title to Warcraft, with $439 million, and the last king of the tiny hill until the new Mario Bros movie became 8th (yes, just 8th) to hold that position with ~$775 million only two weeks in, and still climbing. The first Super Mario Bros? Still ranked 46th. Rounding out the top 50 are three Pokémon flicks and one Digimon, which suggests they’re just phoning those in.

Knuckles, Super Sonic, Shadow, and Metal Sonic would be great for wave 2."

As well as maybe Rouge, Vector, Espio, Charmy, Tangle and, well, they could probably do a whole minifig series worth, although it's unlikely.

By in Australia,

The thing that really frustrates me, I just paid and had the original 71244 Sonic arrive in the post, and I have spent the past month or so working on a two 10701 size Green Hill Zone MOC, and now this comes out, making me feel like I need to remake half of the MOC using the stuff from the sets, plus the minifigs, and I just got expensive Sonic!

Being a HUGE Sonic the Hedgehog fan, all of these sets appeal to me and I think I might get as much of them as possible! Phenominal minifigs of Tails with his tails, the reused friends animals for Flickies and others, all the specially moulded heads altogether and Eggman is really nicely done, although he could do with regular sized legs.

This is practicly my dream theme!!!

Gravatar
By in United States,

Very cool.

However, they all look like sets from the Powerpuff Girls theme or pre-2015 LEGO Friends era. Yikes!

Gravatar
By in United States,

If that Dr. Eggman came in the current set I would’ve jumped on it in a heartbeat. Tails plane is a must buy though.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sega knows what fans always wanted: the millionth iteration of Green Hill Zone. It’s obvious the fans have been horribly deprived, I mean I can only play the original Sonic on 99% of the consoles I own, darn you Sega for never releasing some version of the game on the now defunct Ouya! Oh wait, it was available on that too..

In all seriousness, I find it ironic that Lego smashed this Sonic theme out of the park in terms of design and play features but refuse to give Mario a minifigure based theme that can do the same. Maybe that’s not Lego’s decision, rather Nintendo’s. Regardless, I am excited to check this out!

Gravatar
By in Netherlands,

Not something I would buy, but these look pretty good! And except for the big one, the prices don't seem that bad either.

Gravatar

I think it's fair to say TLG has a certain approach to new licensed themes at this point.

Gravatar
By in Philippines,

I wonder how long would it take for them to eventually cover Sonic Frontiers with this line

Gravatar
By in New Zealand,

A bit torn on this one. I'm not a huge sonic fan, and I already have the dimensions Sonic, but I want the rest of the figures now, and the loop feature looks good. (I had a lot of fun with the Stuntz loops) Maybe I'll just get enough to have the figures.

Gravatar
By in Australia,

Very play oriented, but the minifigures are certainly welcome. A step up from the Mario system in almost every way, but not my thing really.

I was a PlayStation Kid, so I’ll probably wait around for a Ratchet and Clank, Crash Bandicoot or Tomb Raider line.

Gravatar

@Unangazord:
Well, you see, it is app-compatible, actually. You smash your phone down on that big red button, and it makes Sonic go faster than if you did it with your soft, squishy hand.

@Big_Jarv:
It shows the kid's not included in the box, so nobody complains they didn't get one.

@ozbrickcreator:
I bought two copies of the Dimensions pack, so I could pull the minifig from one copy and have it racing Flash on our layouts. I still haven't gotten around to that, which means I have a sealed copy of that pack floating around somewhere.

Gravatar

I haven't been a Sonic Fan. However these change my mind. I really want these.

I'd like to see a Skylanders theme, but even Pac-man is more likely than that.

These Sonic sets look good to me, and I expect a range of small add-ons or blind bag characters to follow. Sonic is oddly popular with 7-10s, and there is a lot of fan art / crossover stuff on the net, so I expect this theme will sell well.

Interestingly enough Crash Bandicoot is not an accepted IP on Lego Ideas. Ratchet and Clank is though.

@ComfySofa

Lego will probably want to stay away from the Sonic Fan art stuff.

Oooh! I want a Left Paddle minifig!

(Having said that, I fully expect Lego to only release regular sets with Ball and stupid Right Paddle - only featuring Left Paddle as a GWP, an SDCC exclusive or in the $900 "Net & Score" D2C set)

Gravatar

@axeleng:
100 copies of Left Paddle released at an unannounced time, with a Saturn Girl GWP for the lucky few.

I like them a lot more than Mario, for here I have real minifigs.
Anyway, I'm happy with my Sonic from 71244: Sonic the Hedgehog Level Pack and can skip these...

I’d love a Sonic Riders set.
The character designs were amazing. Personal favourites: Jet the Hawk and Storm the Albatross.

It could still be coming. In the video that was dropped alongside the sets, there's a hint of another set in the background. The unrevealed set appears to be a Death Egg Robot.

There, corrected it for you. Please refrain from thinking that your opinion is the leading opinion and that everybody who has a different opinion should be considered as a non-existing entity.

I like these sets, and I really hope that play feature works as well as it is shown on the box. And even though I was always more a Nintendo than a Sega fan, I will probably buy that Green Hill course when it is in promotion on Amazon, just to have some fun with it.

On the other hand, you're going to get new elements.

@Minifig_Man:
If it is a retailer exclusive, they usually don’t include those in press releases.

@Givememorebricks:
But some people hate that. The usefulier, the hateier. Nothing but 2x4 bricks in the Mondrian Five colors for them, and none of that new-fangled ABS, neither!

This is more a nod to the cartoons. Sonic loved laying back eating chili dogs when he wasn't messing up Robotnik's schemes.

I was so hoping they’d make more Sonic sets! I don’t think I’ll get any of these day one and will rather wait for discounts, but I’ll definitely be getting them at some point. I’m assuming they’ll make more because how could there be no Knuckles??

My mother-in-law posted a meme on facebook the other day, which I thought was pretty funny and kind of relates to this. "Its weird to think that before [social media], all of this dumb sh*t just stayed in people's heads." This is not the first time there have been comments like this here, and probably not the last, however, it is a pretty ridiculous sentiment you should probably keep to yourself.

Lets go back in time a little. I highly doubt there were very many people whom 'asked' for a video game based on a talking blue hedgehog to be made, yet someone did it. Here we are today, with one of the biggest (at the very least one of the longest running) franchises. Or two plumbers getting sucked into an alternative reality...or any other "outlandish" thing that became popular.

Your single opinion on a niche internet forum on a planet with 8 billion people carries little to no weight whatsoever, especially for a marketing team from a multi billion dollar company that has data contradicting your statement.

As VaultDweller and others have pointed out, there are *at least* 10k people who wanted Sonic sets. Just because you are not one of them does not mean there is not a greater interest.

Gravatar
By in United States,

Sega likes to draw a pretty sharp line between "Classic Sonic" and "Modern Sonic," and while a lot of this could pass as either, that's definitely Modern Amy and Eggman.

Just to provide sone direction for anyone getting their hopes up about later waves. You're more likely to see Rouge than Mighty.

Gravatar

Might need to buy these for the minis, alone… OR… just obtain the minis on their own.

this new line looks neat, feels a little boring, I would have rather gotten a lego portal, pikmin, or even an eternal cylinder line, but I guess sonic is okay too

of course we may not be getting lego portal because valve doesn't care about its own franchises, but that isn't important for this location

No. That would be too round. I would say yes, this is a new piece.
