Who’s Missing: Star Wars Inquisitors

Posted by ,

The second of today's Star Wars articles by guest authors has been written by SearchlightRG:

Among the staples of the Disney Star Wars era are the Inquisitors, an order of former Jedi turned agents of the dark side of the Force and the evil Galactic Empire. Though the concept dates back to before Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, their take on the Inquisitors first appeared in 2014’s Star Wars Rebels. Four Inquisitors appeared in that series, though only two would appear in minifigure form before the LEGO subtheme came to an end in 2017. The Grand Inquisitor and Fifth Brother, said Inquisitors, would later return in 2022 in a set for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

75336 Inquisitor Transport Scythe, the set in question, also introduced the Third Sister, a new addition to the ranks of the Inquisitorious. Appropriately, if disappointingly, she is only the third Inquisitor to receive a physical minifigure. This leaves the number of Inquisitor characters with Minifigures is only half that of the Knights of Ren. That group of Sequel Trilogy characters is a rough equivalent to the Inquisitors, though the Imperial faction strikes me as both more impressive and more interesting.

Fortunately, there are plenty of other Inquisitors in canon, and hopefully we will get more of them in minifigure form as time goes on. The group continues to appear in new Star Wars media, and LEGO has been known to revisit older material as well. With that in mind, I thought I’d go over some of the most notable remaining Inquisitors. I’ll discuss what builds-if any-I could see them being included with, and who we can expect to see them pitted against. I will try to avoid any major spoilers in the process.

With the exception of the Grand Inquisitor, all the Inquisitors are apparently given a numeral designation and the title of “Brother” or “Sister”. The exact significance of the numbering is unknown, as is how lengthy the list is. The Fifth Brother, for instance, claims in Kenobi to be next in line to be Grand Inquisitor. He says this to the Third Sister, and in Rebels also seemed to have superior-if rarely exercised-authority over the Seventh Sister. Darth Vader, overall superior to the Inquisitorius, evidently had some faith in him, dispatching him-on the Emperor’s orders-to track down Ahsoka Tano after learning of her survival in Rebels.

Second Sister

The lowest numbered Inquisitor we know of-barring the assumption that the Grand Inquisitor is also the “First” Inquisitor-is the Second Sister. She appears most prominently as the main antagonist of the 2019 game Jedi: Fallen Order. No sets coincided with the release of the game, but 2022 saw the release of #75335 BD-1, a model based on the droid companion from said game. With a sequel, Jedi: Survivor, recently released, perhaps we may hope for sets based on the original game.

The Second Sister appears multiple times throughout the game’s story. One could easily see her being included in a set of the Stinger Mantis, the protagonists’ means of transportation. Other builds based on various game locations might also be appropriate. The Second Sister also pilots what appears to be a TIE Interceptor in several scenes. While a 2023 set featuring one has been spotted in the wild, this iconic fighter has appeared rarely enough that fans might find another set featuring it appealing.

Fourth Sister

After the prominently featured Second and Third Sisters comes a (as of the time of this writing) rather less notable addition. The Fourth Sister, a humanoid alien, is almost a background character in the first season of Kenobi. She appears only after tensions begin to boil over between the three Inquisitors who have received Minifigures to date. She didn’t really feature in any action sequences, which no doubt in part accounts for her current absence from LEGO sets.

Barring her appearance in a hypothetical second season of Kenobi or some other project, it’s unclear when or if the Fourth Sister might appear in a LEGO set. The most likely candidate at this point is also one that would serve as a good possible set for the Second Sister and various others. I refer to Fortress Inquisitorius, the massive home base of these dark side operatives. Featured first in Fallen Order and again in Kenobi, this towering structure is one location where any Inquisitor might be included without any fuss. Even if they haven’t been seen here on screen, odds are they visited at some point or another.

Sixth Brother?

If there is a single digit Inquisitor less notable than the Fourth Sister, it is the Sixth Brother. Featured in the novel Ahsoka, he has yet to appear outside of printed material…or has he?

Tales of the Jedi, the Disney+ series, includes an episode in which several events roughly parallel those of the novel. There are a number of inconsistencies between the two depictions. Still, the timing makes it seem as though this Inquisitor may in fact be the Sixth Brother. In any event, he seems to be the closest we’re liable to get.

No sets based on Tales have yet been released or announced. Were we to get any, one could imagine this Inquisitor appearing in a scene based on his confrontation with Ahsoka Tano. Failing that, he could be another inclusion for Fortress Inquisitorius. Unless he appears in some other media, those seem the most likely options. If by some miracle we got a Star Wars CMF, I don’t see this guy being high priority.

Seventh Sister

The Seventh Sister, on the other hand, is a rather more notable member of the organisation. She has, in fact, been depicted in LEGO form-just not physically. LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens featured her alongside several other playable characters from Rebels. Unfortunately, like a good many LEGO video game characters, that’s as far as it has gone for her to date.

Appearing prominently throughout the second season of Rebels, the Seventh Sister could appear in a number of different sets. Often in company with the Fifth Brother, she repeatedly engaged with Ahsoka Tano, Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, and a number of their comrades. Notable locations where she was seen include the Jedi Temple on Lothal and the Sith Temple on Malachor. She had less to do with vehicles, but LEGO has been a bit creative in that regard before.

The Fifth Brother, for instance, first appeared in a set based on a vehicle he never even shared a planet with on screen. As such, LEGO could always feature the Seventh Sister in a set based on a vehicle used by the Ghost crew. Of course, like the Grand Inquisitor and Fifth Brother, there’s always the chance she could appear in some other media set prior to Rebels. That would open up new possibilities for her inclusion in future sets.

Eighth Brother

Last, and perhaps least, of the Inquisitors featured in Rebels was the Eighth Brother. Appearing exclusively in the season two finale “Twilight of the Apprentice”, he joined forces with Fifth and Seventh to take on Ahsoka, Ezra, and Kanan. This conflict took place on and near an ancient Sith temple, and involved a couple other surprise combatants. While a set based on this temple would be amazing, it seems quite unlikely.

Like the other Rebels Inquisitors, the Eighth Brother is known to have piloted a prototype TIE Advanced. LEGO produced a version of this fighter back in 2015, and I imagine TIE fans wouldn’t mind an updated version. There’s also the chance he too could appear in future Star Wars media. Barring that, Fortress Inquisitorius seems like the most likely set to see his inclusion.

Ninth Sister

Another Inquisitor featured prominently in Jedi: Fallen Order was the Ninth Sister, who also appears in Jedi: Survivor. This hulking member of the Inquisitorius strikes me as a particularly interesting character for figure production. She would almost certainly be a Bigfig, and only the second physically produced female Bigfig after Ninjago’s Dogshank.

The Ninth Sister could also potentially feature in a set based on a Star Wars vehicle that has yet to appear in official LEGO form. While her comrades go around in fancy starfighters and unique transports, this bruiser is surprisingly utilitarian in her choice of vehicle. The Ninth Sister’s favoured means of getting about while hunting Order 66 survivors is a TIE Reaper. First featured in Rogue One, this craft has since appeared in Fallen Order and Squadrons, among other media.

Other Inquisitors

These six Inquisitors aren’t the only ones yet to appear in LEGO form. Though the exact numbers of the organisation at its height remain unknown, at least a handful of other Inquisitors have appeared in various media. These include Star Wars Visions, the first season of which included an episode in which an imposing Inquisitor squares off against an Astro Boy-inspired droid with a lightsabre. This fellow never got a name other than “Inquisitor”, but then the Knights of Ren Minifigures weren’t individually named either.

Yet another as yet unidentified Inquisitor also appears in the first trailer for the Ahsoka series. Nice as it might be to see additional Inquisitors join the minifigure roster, I think the rest of the single digit number set are the most likely to get the LEGO treatment. Of course, it’s also entirely possible that none of them will be so fortunate either. Still, anyone who carries a lightsabre has a better chance than most.

Ideally, Inquisitor sets would also open up the opportunity to feature Purge Troopers. Armoured in black, these elite soldiers apparently served the Inquisitorius alone, and were specially trained for dealing with surviving Jedi and other Force users. Featured in both Jedi: Fallen Order and Obi-Wan Kenobi, they would undoubtedly prove a welcome addition to any fan who likes to army build with Star Wars figures.

I miss Jerec. Yeah, I know, he's Legends now. Still, I really, really want a Dark Forces/Jedi Knight line.

The Kenobi variant of the Purge Trooper is at the top of my wish list for not-yet-made minifigures currently - such a cool design.

It's kinda sad that we have the full crew of Knights of Ren (which fight with junk weapons and died in less than 3 minutes) and just a few Inquisitors which appeared through a lot of different media. Plus, their sabers are cool.

Thanks for the article. I've a fondness for Rebels, and the introduction of Inquisitors within the stories helped make the show. I recall Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy) saying how much she enjoyed voicing the Seventh Sister. I've had my eye on 75336 for some time because of the figures.

I honestly hope we get a purge trooper battle pack or something. The ones from Kenobi, not the game ones. I know that might be a hot take, but I kinda like the designs of those Purge Trooper than the game counterparts. Heck you know what, I think you can have 3 Kenobi Purgetroopers and 1 Video game Purgetrooper. That sounds fair.

A TIE Reaper would be the perfect set for both Second and Ninth Sisters, can't understand why they haven't made any sets based on Fallen Order / Survivor besides the BD-1 (which probably only exists because a BD droid appeared in BOBF).

Visually I prefer the Kenobi purge troopers, but prefer the story from the games so I'm somewhat torn. I'd be happy to get either. Don't think they need a whole battlepack though, just 1 in a battlepack with stormtroopers which are overdue for a battlepack anyway.

1 purge trooper, 1 scout trooper and 2 stormtroopers. Throw in parts to build different weapons and black, orange and red pauldrons and let us mix and match to build the different variants in the game. Black pauldron for purge troopers and heavy weapon stormtroopers, orange for storm and scout squad leaders, red for purge trooper commanders and rocket launcher stormtroopers.

I imagine the 7th Sister is another victim of Lego abandoning Rebels after Season 1

They had a couple of later season sets. Or do you mean the lack of full waves? Because that was due to the arrival of the sequels. It's a shame we didn't get later seasons' Ezra or any of Sabine's variants though.

I do wish LEGO would devote a set or two a year to Legends. It seems unlikely since the Disney+ shows come out at such a fast rate they probably need all their sets allotted to tie into the TV series now, BUT... it would be neat to see some stuff here and then that tied into the older stories. (Plus the leaks for Ahsoka say the E-Wing is entering canon, so sometimes what might be Legends one day might be canon the next).

A short list of things that come to mind just vehicle-wise that would be cool to see somehow:

* Starspeeder 1000/3000 (technically a canon vehicle yes, but still...)
* V-Wing Airspeeder
* The Suncrusher
* Just... any Vong vehicle
* The Eclipse
* Predator Class Fighter
* Ebon Hawk
* The Moldy Crow

You should get it also for the ship. One of the very best from SW Lego.

I agree with everything everyone has said wanting more cool minifigs with awesome helmets and top to bottom great printing, capes, kamas, accessories, all of it. This is the way, Lego. Give us what we want. Make money.

I agree. Also, the Mantis as said before would be awesome! Kryse (if I spelt that right) would be a great minifig!

The thing with the Ninth Sister is that Lego might not be bothered to make a bigfig. I'm worried she might just turn out like Lego Mr Incredible or Wrecker from Bad Batch. A compromise they could do is give her something like Axl from Nexo Knights but it might not turn out. But who knows? Eggman from the new Sonic sets is not the Dimensions bigfig we were hoping for, but he still turned out as a specially moulded minifig!

Although a Star Wars cmf series would be cool, (if we do get one, I'm hoping against hope for a new Hondo minifig that actually looks like him!) It's highly unlikely that they would make one. Speaking of which, when do we find out about cmf Marvel series 2?

May the fourth be with you and This is the May!

I was going to say that "Visions" is non-canon, and so a set based on it would be unlikely, but "What If?" got sets, so who knows?

@Ridgeheart: Galen Marek was created for The Force Unleashed, and his minifig comes from the one set created for that game, 7672. I don't know which game was released first, but his appearance in a set had nothing to do with Soul Calibur.

True, but Soul Calibur IV came out a couple months before TFU, so he did technically debut in it!

@Pollywanna: As I said, I didn't know which came out first, but the fact remains that (again, as I said) he was created for TFU. Related trivia: some of the stuff created for the Special Editions of the Original Trilogy actually showed up in Shadows of the Empire (and, I believe, other places, though I'm not sure where) first.

Undoubtedly; it’s quite the shame. Seasons 2-4 had a lot of great ships, characters, locations, and creatures that would have been awesome in Lego. I’m hoping the Mandoverse continues to bring back what it can in the hopes that various subjects will get another shot at appearing in set form.

I miss Jerec, too. I definitely want to see more LEGO minifigure Inquisitors, but I doubt we'll get any of the other Inquisitors from the original continuity that I named. I loved those depraved, often pathetic, characters. I don't understand why Lucasfilm went with making them all homogenous, cartoon villains.

I like to think that some episodes of Visions have the potential to be incorporated into future canon Star Wars in some way because they are such isolated and well written stories that don't conflict with current canon.

A good example to me is "The Elder" from Season 1. It's the only story I can think of set in that time just a few centuries after the Sith were thought to be destroyed. It would be so cool to see Lego release The Elder's ship as a set with minifigures of The Elder and the two Jedi. I think they could do that and keep it modestly priced. Maybe give the ship a "self destruct" play feature, too!

@Ridgeheart: All I'm saying is that referring to him as an SCIV character (which was how I, at least, interpreted @Pollywanna's initial comment) is missing the point, as he wasn't created for that game, just happened to show up there first.

The Marvel CMF releases September so we'll probably start getting leaks late July or early August. While I like the idea of a Star Wars CMF, it would probably be scalped to high heaven. This is ignoring as well Hasbro is preventing Lego from doing a CMF.

I'm by no means a Legends die hard, and I enjoy a lot of things in Disney canon as well and we have had some great sets in this time. But there are enough Legends oddities and curiosities which are so cool, it would be a shame to never see them in LEGO form just because they're "non-canon."

Same with the stuff we are getting now in Visions, those shorts are incredibly ambitious and part of it is because they are divorced from the concept of canon completely. I would love to see the Ronin from season 1 with his duel vs. the lightsaber umbrella wielding Sith, or from this latest season stuff like the "Family Race" from Aardman's short just FEEL like they're begging for LEGO set releases.

@Ridgeheart so carefully wrote:
"I think that's the first ever Lego-figure based on a character that debuted in a fighting-game."

I'm going to break this down for you in your own language, for your great convenience, but only this once:

The figure I linked came from a set that wasn't related to SCIV. This much is true. It's still the character of Starkiller/Apprentice/Galen Marek/Whatshisface. This much is also true. That character made its debut in SCIV. This much is also true. At no point did I say that the character I linked, came from SCIV. It's still a minifig based on (that means, 'gets its source from') a character that made its first appearance (that is what 'debuted' means) in that other fighty-punchy-game (that's what 'fighting-game' means). I could say the exact same thing if we ever get a 'Disco Inferno Edition Galen Marek' or 'Super Lifeday Galen Marek'; they'll still be based on (even if they're variations of) a character that made its first first appearance in SCIV (however funky and festive their new incarnations might look). This is how words work.

Context and reading-comprehension are important (absolutely 100% important, dude). If this is still too difficult to comprehend, the problem absolutely 100% exists between your chair and your keyboard. Dude.

Don't @ me."

The helmet looks a bit different, but then again the transition to live action wasn’t all that kind to Grand or Fifth.

I’ve seen quite a few people speculating that the Ahsoka Inquisitor is going to turn out to be Barriss Offee.
