The Little Mermaid Royal Clamshell available now
Posted by Huw,
Two Little Mermaid sets, including the impressive 43225 The Little Mermaid Royal Clamshell, are now available at LEGO.com.
The 1,808-piece set costs £139.99 / $159.99 / 159.99€ which seems like good value to me.

Odd that this set comes out on May the 4th... It's an oddly specific date for a non-Star Wars set.
It was already out May 1st. Could be bought at Lego.com, was availble at the Lego store and the instruction have been online since Monday also.
I don't know, this seems like a set where the designers could have shown a bit more restraint. I like the middle bit, but I have not need for that whole clamshell.

Saw it on in the store on the 1st. I thought perhaps in person it would be one of the sets that was more impressive than the photos, but to be honest I found it equally as disappointing. Was the only set that wasn't flying off the shelves, unlike the SW sets and new Disney minifigs.
I'm still unsure who this is aimed at; it's too costly and big for a children, but also aimed at fans of the remake movie, rather than the classic film, so might not be of much interest to the majority of AFOLs. I do worry that Lego is over-saturating the range in general (how many new sets have been announced this week...?!). Development costs must be huge for such a large and diverse product range, but there's only a finite pot of money that people are able to spend (less so, now-a-days), so surely sets such as this will sell poorly and end up losing TLG money.

I agree. While it looks good, there’s a whole lot of clamshell and not enough of the other stuff. It’s almost hard to make out the other aspects of the set.
@8lackmagic I'm not sure what Lego's development life cycle is (but I'm guessing about two years), so I would assume that after some high profile licensed failures last year (like Hulkbuster and Black Panther) we probably won't see Lego changing their strategy until next year.
Lego seem to have stopped producing stadia and that's taken a couple years to get to that decision.

Pure coincidence but spot on.
This set seems AWESOME. Maybe I'll pick it up if it hits a long tail of discounts at the end, though, to minimize chances of Disney being rewarded. (Wish it were just unbranded.)
I like this overall. I dislike how they mixed in the old fishtail with the new one. It makes the father figure seem stiff, outdated, and doesn't flow with the rest of the set.
This looks like a set from a 1940s musical or possibly the world's greatest drag show.
I'll never understand why they used the designs from the new Little Mermaid (a movie targeted towards kids & families) in the 18+, $160 display set - a product line targeted almost specifically to adults, who would've preferred the original designs of the animated movie.
I’m pretty sure Disney forced Lego to make this set even thought Lego knew it wouldn’t sell too well

Tickets, please (.O_O.)
In response to some other stuff, I’ll admit using the new film as a basis for an 18+ set instead of the old one was an odd choice but they’re honestly not that different-looking IMO. Aside from a different character design or two and no Sebastian, I can’t see much of a difference here. It’ll probably sell almost the same either way.

You know that families are partly made out of adults (also called parents), don't you?
