Just one hole cut out? Looks like 12.

This is an alt version of 32531, so most recent set I got that part in is 41732 downtown flower and design stores

Oh, wow, I just looked this up on Bricklink, and they show the underside of the earliest of three known variants. The current one has hollow pins, the second had solid pins, and the first had pins that were actually +-shaped. I don't think I've seen that on any other parts before, unless you count the X-bottom 2x2 round tile.

Fast way to make a solid building surface with a few of these and some pins.

I remember having one of these parts as a kid. I somehow placed two technic pins on the inside just about touching each other. I think I gave it away since I thought I couldn't use it. I either couldn't stand the idea of breaking the pins, or I couldn't be bothered to invest the effort in removing them.

When these are used for structure (along with the 6x8 variant), you know it's a good set.

I assume this is the same as part 4211716 which has being around since 2002 in lots of Star Wars sets and most recently in 10497.

I found it quite interesting that TLG began using 4-digit Design IDs again like a year ago or so (?). Seems they ran out of 5-digit ones entirely by now...

Though somehow it creates an even messier situation than back then, when 4-digit set numbers were running short and new lines had their set numbers scattered out very weirdly. I guess we'll be seeing 6-digit design IDs very soon then.

As @MeisterDad said about the 6x8 variant - "Ah yes, the base for assemblies that are unable to be undone". Just the other day I came across the massive "Lego makes sets that can't be taken apart!!11!" stink-o-rama about the 75313 UCS AT-AT*, it seems like these frames and similar complex parts are an invitation for such problems.

I'm sure you *could* build such impossible assemblies with early-80s technic too, but you *really* had to put some effort into it - nowadays it seems like it just takes a few connectors and a momentary lack of attention to be screwed.
