Here's the full Sonic Central video, including LEGO Eggman's hilarious rap at 13:10 - featuring a surprise cameo from LEGO designer Carl Merriam!

Additionally, a LEGO Eggman skin will be coming to the Sonic Superstars game when it launches this fall, available only if you preorder the game.

Finally, here's the press release:

Billund - June 23rd, 2023 – Today, the LEGO Group and SEGA have revealed two exciting pieces of news as part of their collaboration, with an additional building set bringing cherished characters and scenes from the Sonic universe to LEGO brick form, as well as new LEGO content in the hotly-anticipated upcoming Sonic Superstars, Sonic the Hedgehog’s latest video game adventure bringing a new standard of play to classic high-speed 2D Sonic platforming.

The two announcements were made live as part of the annual Sonic Central livestream to mark the iconic hedgehog’s birthday, and LEGO fans can soon say hello to Sonic vs. Dr. Eggman’s Death Egg Robot building set, featuring the villainous Dr. Eggman and Sonic in his Speed Sphere.

In this new 615-piece set, Dr. Eggman has a mech with a removable capsule which contains the small and adorable animals captured by Dr. Eggman and used to power up his suit. Alongside his assistant Cubot, Dr. Eggman will face Sonic in a showdown, with Sonic able to blast into him in his Speed Sphere to release the animals and save the day. The set will be a part of the new LEGO Sonic product range and available at authorized retailers starting in August 2023.

“We’re a little over 30 days away from LEGO Sonic hitting shelves, and we’re thrilled to reveal Dr. Eggman’s Death Egg Robot as the fifth entry in our fantastic range of building experiences,” said Frédéric Roland Andre, Designer at the LEGO Group. “Sonic Central is the perfect setting to introduce LEGO and Sonic fans to this amazingly villainous new set, and we can’t wait for Sonic fans of all ages to get their hands on the blue blur in LEGO brick form this summer.”

Also announced as part of Sonic Central was a new LEGO Sonic themed expansion pack for the upcoming title, Sonic Superstars. Additionally, fans will have the opportunity to get free LEGO Sonic & Eggman skins with the latter being available to those who pre-order the game adding plenty of brick-built fun to the title that will offer a new spin on classic 2D Sonic platforming games with an all-new look, new abilities, new worlds to explore, 4-player co-op, battle mode, and more for multiple generations of Sonic fans.

Sonic Superstars is set to release digitally and physically in fall 2023, starting at $59.99 USD on PlayStation5, PlayStation4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, the Nintendo Switch family of systems, and PC. Additional details regarding packages and future LEGO Sonic themed content will be revealed at a later date.

“After the Sonic Superstars reveal, we wanted to share more details around the game and the upcoming LEGO themed integration on Sonic Cental, “said Ivo Gerscovich, Chief Business and Brand Officer at SEGA of America. “Through our continued partnership with the LEGO Group, Sonic fans will be able to experience Sonic Superstars in brick form and also recreate favorite scenes with the recently announced Dr. Eggman’s Death Egg Robot.”

With the ‘LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog’ product range, Sonic fans can build, create and play out iconic moments with the blue blur. In April, the two companies revealed this brand-new product line and the first four sets, but today at Sonic Central, the SEGA team has revealed the new mech toy as a fifth set that features Sonic and his nemesis Dr. Eggman.

With the new range, Sonic fans can get creative, construct their own unique courses, combine sets and invent new storylines, or reminisce about their treasured memories as they challenge the beloved hedgehog to be the hero of the day.

He’ll always be Dr. Robotnik to me.

It sounds better.

This will be the sonic set i will get.

By in United States,

Looks like this set uses the new 375 Transparent Black as a cockpit piece.

By in United States,

The only game I've ever played that even had Sonic in it was Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, so I don't have any real interest in this set, although I do like the mech. Lego should do more cartoony mechs.

By in United States,

This is the best set with Sonic’s big ball and the best in the whole line IMO, it has both the ball play feature and a cool build. Unfortunately, I can say for sure that I’m not getting it because this line mostly interests me because it gives us Stuntz parts for cheaper than the Stuntz sets are in the US, but this set doesn’t have any of those despite being a Sonic ball set.

By in United States,

I have zero interest in the IP, but I have to say, this looks like a very well designed set with some unique and cleverly integrated play features. All for a fairly reasonable price too.

Stomp, stomp, stomp. De-lightful! And a good price, too.

By in United States,

This is the set that has caught my eye. I too like the mech.

Absolutely love, Eggman's pose on the back of the box.

He is so done with the whole thing.

Hopefully it won't be long until we get him… and Knuckles… and Shadow… and Rouge… and Big… and Silver… and Blaze… and yeah, I want them all!

So nice of them to provide a single image where the lid of the mech is closed.

By in Canada,

@TheBrickPal: Yes...unfortunately, we'll never get: Sally, Bunnie, slim chance on Rotor,...definitely no Antoine...

Also: where does one get a 'grey hand/fist' to operate this...I'm clearly lacking one (kidding, of course.:D)

By in Germany,

Again a timely "reveal" by LEGO for a set that has been available for pre-order at every major retailer for weeks.
:-)

Don't they feel kind of stupid by now?

By in United Kingdom,

The blue bird is Flicky, right? I recognised him from the original Sega game ‘Flicky’, and a quick google shows that he turn up regurlarly in Sonic games (which I never really got into).

By in United Kingdom,

From a sonic fan perspective the way they announced this was kiiiiiiiiinda weird (the last third of that Sonic Central was entirely lego, and capped off the whole stream with... a bogstandard legoland ad, to the chagrin of everyone watching), but that aside I reckon this is my fave set of the wave! Nails the general look of the Death Egg Robot but with its own lego-y twists, and covers all the bases with figures - price is a lil on the high side but hey, I've got VIP pts handy, I'll splurge come Aug 1st.

Also very happy to see the lego content in Superstars - the trailer's kinda unclear about it, but the SEGA press release confirms it's not just Lego Eggman as a preorder bonus, Lego Sonic's gonna be a free DLC for everyone upon launch! Very excited to see Lego stuff in a Sonic game proper, let alone what looks to be one of the really good ones!

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that a lot of people's entire understanding of Sonic and fandom thereof comes from Internet Personalities who found an easy dunk in 2008 and haven't let go since.

I want Galaga sets. Insectoids and Galaxy Squad are pretty close.

Sega of America changed his name from Eggman to Robotnik without consulting the development team.

"They just kind of went off and did it. It became super popular and everyone in the West kind of learned about the character as Robotnik. That went on through the "classic" series in the Genesis/Mega Drive era, but as far as the developers are concerned... we really didn't want to have anyone in the [Sonic] universe with two names. To us, he's Eggman, but in the rest of the world he's called Robotnik. We wanted to unify that into one name moving forward. This is something I actually did in the Sonic Adventure series. I made it so that we understand the character's name is Robotnik, but his nickname is Eggman, and as far as everyone is concerned in the world now, we're just going to call him Eggman as his official name."

I've already built hachiroku24's far superior MOC of the Death Egg Robot with a couple of my own modifications, but I will be getting this and combining a few of the cool features I like with the MOC. Great price and a great set.

Alright, here's my pitch. Lego should just make an "& Knuckles" polybag!

Okay that actually would be perfect, screw the VIP "add-on packs", give a Knuckles minifig as a low-threshold GWP polybag before he enters regular sets to play into the gimmick.

$50 of City? Have a Knuckles. $50 of Ninjago? Have a Knuckles. $50 of Friends? Have a Knuckles!

Now that would be some *real* lock-on technology.

@Alia_of_AGL:
You know it would end up being $50 in purchases of sandwich shop sets to get a free Knuckles.
