I'll use this opportunity to get the Pac-Man Arcade with $50 Honey cash back. I collect most of the GWPs at this point.

Is this Arnold Schwarzenegger's childhood home?

Bench press in the bedroom and everything!

Compared to july's blacktron _and_ bionicle for 180, this is a lame deal, no matter how nice it looks. I'm gonna pass on this.

So still only a probably/perhaps/maybe....

Was starting to think it was going to end up being Concorde I got this with! (Which hopefully @Huw might be busy building!!)

Ha! I WILL let the super cool GWPs control my purchases. After all, they're the best 'discounts' Lego really has to offer.

But.... this is not it. Arnold's Austrian house of pumpitude does not get my wallet's blood flowing.

We will buy the new 10315 Tranquil Garden - and cannibalize all these parts to build Train Layout Landscape Mountains, rivers, and buildings (including this Mountain Cabin-ish house)

I have no idea why, but I have a sudden urge to drink Swiss Miss hot chocolate and eat a Toblerone candy bar.

(Yes, I had to look up how to spell the candy bar. It's impossible to remember how to spell that right!)

I’m struggling to think of a way to spell it wrong!

Waiting for suggestions

Might I ask what Honey cash is? Is it a kind of money that you can have with pancakes?

Or waffles?!

I wonder what else might go well on a waffle?

By in United Kingdom,

The first set was priced too high ($250+ spend) and Lego feel that they have to copy it for the remaining 3 sets, even though done well.

It's a cashback program that gives around 20% back on many different sets. I believe it's now owned by PayPal and may only be available in the US, not sure.

Do people in Australia put honey on their pancakes?

I think they mean the Paypal add on that does cash back for different things/sites etc. Check it out if you don't use it...I use it often!

Never heard of that. We only use maple syrup.

We generally put fruit on pancakes, like strawberries or blueberries. Alternatively we use jam/marmelade (or honey), while the kids often prefer Nutella.
Maple syrup is not something typically available in our shops. Sometimes Aldi or Lidl have theme weeks for their specialty isles, with a number of products typical only for certain countries like France, Italy, England, Scotland, Spain, the US or regions like Asia. It's during "American Weeks" that they offer maple syrup, or those special US type of small thick pancakes that are very different from what is known as pancakes over here (just for reference, pancakes in Germany are only about a third as thick as US ones, and they cover an entire plate in size. They're also usually not part of breakfast, but eaten after lunch as a dessert - or as a main course even). And there's also the even thinner French version called crepe, which can be had with a multitude of toppings both sweet or hearty.
In any case, even when it is available, maple syrup doesn't seem to be a big seller. And I can understand why. When I bought it once to show the family what I had on holiday in the US, they weren't keen on it at all, so in the end I had to finish it off over quite some time afterwards. I have to admit it's not my favorite topping either, I bought it more for the novelty aspect. ;-)

$400AUD is a ludicrous threshold for GWP

Gravatar
By in United States,

It seems perfectly anecdotal that the price threshold and design of this GWP are so middling that this page have a high ratio of comments regarding pancakes versus the actual set.

Personally I'm a sucker for putting chocolate chips in pancakes, but you gotta go with semi-sweet chips so it's not overpowering. Course it makes cooking a bit more tricky sometimes but one of these days I'll make it work. Then again, clearly I'm doing something wrong if constantly having pancakes stick to the pan is a common thing, right?

I really wanna try honey on pancakes now, it just makes perfect sense. Can't believe that isn't already a thing here in the States, to be honest. But I'm also hoping crepes take off more in a big way, you can get them here on occasion but I'd love to see more variety and options there.

Oh yeah and also I don't have money to spend on $250 worth of LEGO, you charmingly assuming yet tragically deluded ABS element purveyors.

Get your pan medium hot. Hopefully, your pan is of decent material to retain heat. Cheap, thin pans that quickly fluctuate with heat are much more difficult to use.

Put a generous pat of butter in the pan. It should sizzlle, but not immediately turn brown or scortch. Put in the amount of batter you want for your preferred size pancake. If you like a thinner cake, pick up the pan and move the batter around to spread. Smaller cakes are easier to flip/not stick.

Add your chocolate chips (or blueberries, nuts etc.). Less is more. Too many will make it harder to flip and not stick.

Once batter forms bubbles, it's ready to flip. Put more butter in. Flip with spatula. In a couple minutes it'll be ready.

If you're worried about sticking, use a little more butter before you try to get it out of the pan. Working with lower heat (but not too low, I'm hungry and waiting!!) also helps.

Another option is buying a specialized pan to make Danish aebleskiver (Danish pancake balls). They're so good with chocolate chips!

One key for both, is don't add fillers directly in the batter. Add them after you've put the batter in the hot pan.

I think it's super cute! I like it more than the other ones honestly.

That being said, not good enough to spend $250 just to get it xD
