40658 Millennium Falcon Holiday Diorama revealed!
Posted by CapnRex101,
An unusual Star Wars set has been revealed on LEGO.com, 40658 Millennium Falcon Seasonal Diorama!
This 282-piece set is loosely inspired by scenes featured in the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special released a few years ago and includes exclusive versions of Rey and Finn, each wearing festive jumpers. It will be released on the 1st of October, costing £25.99, $29.99 or €29.99.

They could have given us a trans-yellow lightsaber blade... BUT NOOO! They gave us some weird green shade. Sad... so very sad.
This is fun. I'm surprised to see it as an actual set and not just a GWP.
"Joh blastoh, joh blastoh
Blastoh moulee-rah"
Not including Boolio in this is a CRIME
lmao not even a yellow lightsaber blade for Rey… they really don't give a f do they?
We can buy this????? Like, for realsies?
Interesting, this looks like a GWP, But since people here complains most of the time about wanting to buy GWPs outright without any sort of 'threshold', I wonder how this will be received now that these people will have to pay for it as opposed to get it for free. For the price, it seems reasonable at 282 parts and 3 minifigs. The jumpers/sweaters are cool.
I wonder if there is a place in the UCS Millennium Falcon where you can remove some bits and put this instead.
Wait, there's a Lego holiday SW special? Is it anything like the original holiday special?
It’s not been Halloween yet, hell it’s not even October. Put the Christmas stuff away.

Not really. It is referenced in places, but no 30 minutes of just Wookie's speaking without subtitles, and no traditional lifeday hymns. (AKA The Star Wars theme song) Also, no Boba Fett.
There is also a Halloween special (Terrifying Tales, which is also good and riffs on several 80's movies.) and summer special as well. (Basically a Galactic Cruiser advertisement)
It's a thing that they've made... much, I suppose, like the Holiday Special exists ...
Like a previous poster has said, it will be interesting to see how a GWP-looking set performs as a retail set, but I must confess that even as a SW fan, it's not something I feel I want in either capacity.

The Lego holuday special HAS to be better. Even in infinite universes with infinite possibilities, it CAN'T be worse than the original SW holiday special.
What’s with the green lightsaber? What a disappointment. Tsk, tsk, tsk, LEGO.
Ew, sequel set. I thought these were discontinued, for the sake of the Saga.

There is no original SW Holiday Special. You did not see it, as it doesn't exist. You will go home and rethink your life.
Finally more holiday vignettes!
Looked pretty good... until I saw the colour of Rey's lightsaber blade. Come on LEGO!
Cute little diorama though, and I really like the holiday variants of Rey and Finn.
will be interested to see what it looks like with the christmas stuff removed, and if it can make an effective display for the other 11 months of the year
I like the SNOT technique to build the top tan details around the entrance.
Happy to see our friends from the sequels again :)
I'm game.

I'm going to say that the Lego SW Holiday Special was actually pretty brilliant. It was basically written as though someone took all their minifigures from Episodes I - IX and mashed them together in a ridiculous story. Blue, it's where Blue Milk Luke came from.
The two subsequent specials (Halloween and Summer Vacation) were fairly meh, although the swimsuit Vader from last year's Advent Calendar (I think?) reflected the last one.
Too many minifigures to be a GWP.

Great. Back to the death sticks.
I'm not big into the sequel trilogy stuff. But...I am big into the holiday sweater stuff. So I will be getting this.
Porg, porg, chicken, and porg.
I NEED that book!!!!
Ooo... more Star Wars themed holiday sweaters!
I like it just for the Millennium Falcon interior diorama. I'll just put the other stuff away for Christmas time.
Can't believe people are so mad about the colour of a single piece.
I love how these LEGO specials are the only things keeping the sequels on life support. Pretty cool set, though.

NOTHING is like the original Star Wars Holiday Special...
A Millennium Falcon Diorama, nice!
This is both charming and hilarious. Absolutely love these ugly Christmas sweaters. Most of them are just ugly. ;-)
This seems more fun than 75366 . I love it!
Chewie, nooo! I thought porgs are your friends!

Clearly, you've never seen Chewie roast Porgs over an open fire in Episode 8. (You lucky person, you! I wish I could get those 2 hours of my life back...)
This looks good, but I reckon I'll try and pick it up without the figures and replace them with the original trilogy figures
They should have made a Life Day set instead...
I'm seeing a lot of complaints about Rey's saber being green, which are warranted if true, but I'm wondering if this is just a rendering error. The saber doesn't look like the trans bright green of Sabine's saber, and the trans neon green it most closely resembles was retired at the end of last year, which leads me to suspect it's trans yellow after all. At least I sure hope so.
It has been three years since this special released and four since we’ve gotten a Sequel Trilogy set. Explain to me why this is happening, and, no, don’t say “they didn’t have reference material until after it released,” I highly doubt it takes almost three whole years to get one set out.
This a funny moment from the special, though, albeit one with too limited of appeal for me to buy. Also, it’s inaccurate to the special, the Porgs were specialized molds in that one (albeit ones that are blatantly not LEGO-textured).
The set looks nice enough (and honestly, if I had a Christmas sweater like those two I'd probably wear it!), but the most interesting part to me is the book.
No Life Day robes or orbs, no sale.

There's trans-yellow studs in the Christmas lights, and the lightsaber is very clearly a different shade, so I suspect it's probably transparent light green (the Atlantis color). I'd love to be wrong though.
Finally, a purchaseable GWP! :)
That's great, and the price is about right. Not a SW fan, but would be a sure buy if I were.

I think LEGO is afraid cheeky builders will use a trans-yellow bar for minifigures peeing!
Why do I kind of like this? I wish they made dioramas with GOOD concepts in this format and price. Nice for sequel fans, and with the upcoming possibility of Finn training to be a Jedi in the Rey film these LEGO specials will become more relevant.
I like the design, but I'd rather it had Han, Luke and Leia then Rey and Finn. Also, it seems about £10 overpriced.
Makes a good stocking filler though I'm guessing.
Aah, a midi-scale Advent Calendar.
Pretty lame :/
If they did a set based on the *other* Holiday Special, I'm not sure how I'd feel. On the one hand, the less that thing is acknowledged, the better. (Although the animated segment was pretty decent, and did introduce Boba Fett.) On the other hand...Wookiee battlepack!
Too bad there's no character from the original trilogy.

Chewbacca?
I'd have rathered Poe to Chewie, only cause I mostly don't get sequel sets but I like this, so I don't have Poe but do have a few Chewbaccas.

The as of yet unrevealed avengers GWP has 4
I didn't like how the sequels turned out, but these Christmas specials are actually pretty fun! I think it's kinda telling these are the only sequels sets, though.

Haven't he switched to the no-porg diet by the end of the film? Oh, well.
It's actually the last SW movie I watched at the theatre. It totally killed my interest in the franchise. >_>

LEGO should sell these sweaters. Many people would love to wear a Millennium Falcon sweater,
Myself included.

Is Merchoid a thing in the US? They do excellent Christmas jumpers based on various pop culture things. I have a rather natty Spider-Man one myself.
30 is a good price for a seasonal item, but something like a gingerbread x-wing would be pretty cool
Not bad, definitely tempted to pick one up just for the Falcon diorama.
Should be fairly easy to remove the Christmas stuff and swap in some OG trilogy figs.
Sequel trash. Even LEGO doesn’t care enough to give Rey the right colour lightsaber. This is still going to be warming shelves next Christmas.

I wish Lego could produce it as a limited edition special. That way we could get Bea Arthur's bartender and Chewie's father getting too excited watching hologram singers.
I know some people felt that sequel sets were oversaturated during the late 2010s but it's insane that there haven't really been any in the 2020s (and no, adults complaining about the most recent Star Wars trilogy is not a valid reason for a lack of ST content, these are toys for kids that don't know or care about online discourse, otherwise we would have never gotten a single Phantom Menace set after the early 2000s). Glad to see Lego isn't fully abandoning that side of the franchise and overall this looks like a nice, inoffensive set with some cute prints, though the lightsaber problem is quite glaring

If LEGO could sell sequel sets they would be making sequel sets. Kids care even less about the sequels than we do, that’s why there’s still unsold Force Awakens and Last Jedi figures in every toy store across the world. We’ve been telling you sequel shills the same thing for years, there aren’t enough of you to support new products.

I don't want to speak for the kids, but it seems the movies didn't properly capture their imaginations they way the prior two trilogies did for other generations. Certainly the sequels have their fans, but because they invented so little in regards to world building it won't maintain as much of a following. Let alone we are getting spammed by content with a generation that has an attention span of 5 minutes.

I (mis)interpreted that as "Star Trek content" at first (the fact that I've been watching a lot of The Next Generation recently didn't help with that), and thought, Lego doesn't even have that franchise!"

The color from Atlantis is trans neon green, which is the one that was retired. Either they are bringing it back and this is the first we're hearing about it, or else it's a mistake somehow
Glad I bought that Green Lantern vs Sinestro set all those years ago.

They have made the piece in trans yellow already, that first Green Lantern plane with yellow Sinestro.

Wait, she actually had a green lightsaber in the special? If so, that's disappointing we won't get the recolor, but at least it's accurate.

Chewbacca is technically a prequel character, as he shows up in Episode III. ;-)

No, Rey had her yellow lightsaber in the Holiday Special.
This made me chuckle, I think I may have to get this.
Jimmy Buffett died today. So I’ve been down. Didn’t think anything could pick me up.
I was wrong! An entire comments section whining about Sequels / Disney / general pettiness. I grinned. I chuckled. I laughed. (These guys know they don’t have to buy it, right? …right?)
Thanks for the pickup, comments section! You make my day!

The ugly sweaters are kinda cool. This looks more like a gwp set though. Also kind of weird that it's releasing in October.

Isn't it funny that the movie was so horrible it knocked the green lantern clear into a different (Marvel) cinematic universe?

At first I thought it is a GWP
I definitely like this little holiday star wars vignette, will be picking it up on Oct. 1st. Now waiting to see if we will get a seasonal set for halloween (seems like they would have announced this before announcing Christmas sets though); really hoping we will get a halloween vignette as the last two came out in 2017 and 2020.
This looks great, has good parts value, and I'm glad it sounds like it will be at general retail. Why not release it beginning in October, if not to make sure it's well available by the holiday season? Makes sense. The holiday season begins earlier every year anyway.
As someone who has never bought an Advent calendar set and otherwise has no Christmas themed sets, this looks perfect. Those snowflakes could be crammed into a Hoth or other ice planet scene, too! And yes, the book is awesome and can go into many types of dioramas.
Kind of wish Finn’s saber was green or purple or something. I feel like blue got more than enough usage in the films. Obi-Wan and Anakin’s sabers were blue, Luke and Rey both used one of Anakin’s sabers for a sizable portion of screen time, Leia and Ben’s (pre-dark side) sabers were blue, even Force projection Luke used blue.
Not sure why anyone would think Finn's lightsaber here is supposed to be anything other than Anakin's blue lightsaber again. It's the only lightsaber we've seen him wield and I bet Lego just figured, why not throw it in here too?
Who knows, maybe Finn will be developed into a Jedi trainee in the future (under Rey and Grogu's joint instruction please, that could be cool), but this set is surely not teasing that.
I do wish they had given Rey a yellow blade.

Wasn’t Anakin’s lightsaber buried with Leia’s in the sands of Tatooine near the Lars homestead ruins, no doubt to its original owner’s intense displeasure? That little maneuver probably pushed him permanently into the dark side afterlife, instead of just weekly sabacc nights with everyone else Sidious manipulated.
A surprise to be sure. But a welcome one!
It's something different at least. At least, as far as display diorama sets with next to no play value go.
The christmas special version of the characters are some of their better portrayals, so I like it :)
